Game of Thrones resolves filming delay in Northern Ireland; plus, a new casting notice!

Corbet 3
Game of Thrones set in Corbet

Game of Thrones is reportedly on its way toward a resolution of the filming delay in Corbet, Northern Ireland, sources inform us.

Shooting was due to start yesterday but local objections to the set along the River Bann caused all filming at the location to be put off until further notice.

We’ve learned there are multiple issues involved in the complaint, from the large size of the structure to the amount of traffic being caused by the presence of Game of Thrones production. However, as of this morning, permission has been granted for work to resume while the concerns are investigated.

We have a batch of new photos of filming courtesy of La Voz de Almería, with Emilia Clarke and Dothraki extras filming around Sierra Alhamilla.

La Voz reports that Game of Thrones has been filming in this area of Almería province since last Friday which is ahead of schedule. Peter Welter of Fresco Film, who handles GoT’s production services in Spain, kept reporters informed at a meeting with the city council.

La Voz de Almería says that the shoots have been lasting about twelve hours every day, from dawn until nighttime. The extras are based in a sports arena in Pechina and transported to the set in El Chorrillo from there, recording various scenes since Saturday. They also mention fan sightings of Iain Glen and Michiel Huisman in the area, though not on set.

More photos after the jump, plus the latest sighting in Belfast!

Riverrun filming delayed, sources report

Corbet 4

The Game of Thrones filming scheduled to begin tomorrow in Corbet, Northern Ireland has been delayed, according to our sources.

The castle-and-drawbridge set in the County Down town has been under construction for the last few weeks, with tents and more structures springing up. The visible trout sigil over the entryway made it apparent that this must be Riverrun, the home of House Tully. More wooden structures have been built in front of the castle facade over the last week or so.

According to our sources, filming will not begin tomorrow because there have been some objections to a very, very large structure being built. It will have to be examined by local representatives to see if it broke the rules in the original planning application. Due to this, filming can’t begin on time. The next inspection will take place possibly on Tuesday, and hopefully, filming in Corbet for Riverrun will start after that.

Game of Thrones filming begins in Almería & a new casting call!

Dothraki

New pictures have surfaced of Game of Thrones season six filming in the Almería province of Spain. Numerous Dothraki extras and horses are on set.

Local representatives of Almería and Fresco Film Services commented on the commencing on shooting in the province, according to La Voz de Almería.

Antonio Jesus Rodriguez, the Deputy of Culture, reconfirmed that the shooting locations will include sites at El Chorrillo Sierra Alhamilla, Tabernas, Sorbas, Mesa Roldan in Carboneras and the Alcazaba. He also said that there could be another town in Almería added at the last minute.

Location manager Pedro Aráez says, “The value of Almeria is obvious: the semi-desert landscape is central to the choice of locations.”

everyone

It was a scorching Night of Ice and Fire at the Hard Rock Cafe, last night in Times Square. Game of Thrones stars Kristian Nairn, Finn Jones, and Keisha Castle-Hughes hit the stage to chat with Game of Owns. Conlanger David J. Peterson stopped by to share a lesson in Valyrian, and Fire & Lunch threw the official Game of Thrones costume contest of New York Comic Con. Brewery Ommegang (makers of the official GoT brews) joined us, and we capped off the night with a Rave of Thrones set from Kristian Nairn. Most importantly, passionate Game of Thrones fans were there, celebrating what they love.

I was there last night too, to party with everyone else so let me walk you all through the night!

HBO GO launches in Latin America & Carribbean, HBO NOW arrives on Roku

HBONOW_Roku

Good news for streaming fans, HBO has announced two new updates to its services.

Game of Thrones viewers in Latin America and the Caribbean rejoice, HBO Latin America has announced its plans to launch a new digital platform for HBO GO as a paid online service, beginning with a launch in Colombia by the end of the year.

Broadband only consumers in these regions will now be able to access content from HBO/MAX channels for the first time, rather than through the Premium HBO/MAX paid TV subscription package through which it is currently available.  Subscribers to the TV service will still be able to use HBO GO free of charge.

The new platform will provide the user with the option to choose whether to operate in Spanish, English or Portuguese, program audio tracks and subtitles, a live HBO linear channel and a redesigned user interface so they can easily access all of its 2,500 titles.

The latest Kit Harington and Iain Glen sightings, plus new pics of Riverrun

Alcazaba

According to Ideal.es, the Alcazaba of Almería, confirmed in July to be a season six Game of Thrones location, filming will occur at the thousand-year-old fortress on October 20th and 21st.

This scheduling was inferred from the Alcazaba stating that the decks would be closed to visitors on those dates. Though the shooting dates are not officially confirmed, the speculation is solid, based on this and the dates coinciding with the announcement of the Almería province filming period: October 10th-23rd.

A few days ago, La Voz de Almeria reported their own sources gave them the dates the 20th and 21st for the Alcazaba, making it seem more and more likely that this is accurate.

The purpose of Alcazaba for Game of Thrones is unknown. Speculation runs from new possible Dornish location, to another site for Meereen. Dorne is the most popular guess though- with GoT not returning to Seville, it seems like more Dornish locations are needed, and the Alcazaba does look like a place from George R. R. Martin’s Dorne.
