Game of Thrones returns to Banbridge and joins EW’s Entertainers of the Year

group

The year-end accolades have begun! The cast of Game of Thrones has been named to Entertainment Weekly‘s 2015 Entertainers of the Year list.

“There are so many ways this show could have died in the crib, but the most likely killer would have been the cast,” executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss tell EW. “It’s difficult enough to find a single actor who is perfect for a single role, and more difficult still to find, say, five ideal actors. But to find 30, 40, or more? The odds against that are astronomical.”

Given the debates and controversies over season 5, it should be interesting to see how many end of the year Best-Of lists Game of Thrones lands on this year. The Emmys (awarded by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences) don’t always line up with the opinions of critics.

Smalljon Umber cast!

Dean S JaggerThere’s not much time left in season 6 filming, but thankfully, there is still Game of Thrones casting news to be had.

Our casting news involves another major house of the North that we haven’t seen in a few years- the Umbers. In season 1, Greatjon Umber (Clive Mantle) was a boisterous and (eventually) vocal supporter of the King in the North. The Greatjon wasn’t present on the show in later seasons, leaving him presumably alive, and his son Smalljon no longer a victim of the Red Wedding like in the books.  At the end of season 3, Bran Stark sends Osha and his little brother Rickon off to the Umbers at Last Hearth.

With the season 6 casting announcements, we learned that House Umber would be coming back into play, with Smalljon as its representative.

Which bring us to today’s news: we’ve learned that British actor Dean S. Jagger will be playing the role of Smalljon Umber.

Brian Fortune on Game of Thrones season 6, the Night’s Watch and killing Jon Snow

Night's Watch

Now here’s a Game of Thrones interview worth checking out. Natalie Dormer interviews are a dime a dozen (and I’ll read every one of them, don’t get me wrong) but how often do we hear from the men who killed Jon Snow?

In a new interview with Newstalk.com, website of Ireland’s Newstalk 106-108FM, we hear from Brian Fortune, who plays Othell Yarwyck of the Night’s Watch on Game of Thrones.

In discussing his favorite scenes from the past, he confirms his presence in the new season. “I really enjoy shooting the Mess Hall meeting scenes. Arguing with Jon Snow about allowing the Wildlings to seek refuge at Castle Black, the election of Jon Snow as the new Lord Commander, the beheading of Janos Slynt, the Jon Snow scene and a couple of great scenes in Season 6 that of course cannot be discussed.”

You have to wonder what the consequences will be for Yarwyck and the others who plunged a knife into Jon Snow in the season 5 finale. With that new teaser poster, more than ever Jon is at the forefront of people’s minds.

Game of Thrones filming round-up: Feet, Hand, and Ghost!

There’s only a few weeks left of Game of Thrones filming! With the teaser poster revving up everyone’s engines, we’re readier than ever for season 6.

It seems there was filming for Brother Lancel this week. Eugene Simon shared this image on Instagram yesterday, of his very dirty post-filming feet.

Filming continues over in Moneyglass, Northern Ireland, this week as well, based on local sightings. The town that plays home to the Winterfell set saw more action late at night yesterday.
