It’s been quite a year, both in and out of Westeros — but we finally have some more “official” news about the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, and The Night’s Cast, the official podcast of Watchers on the Wall, is here to break it down!

Boy, did I miss being able to catch up with all of you at Con of Thrones. As I’m sure many of you will agree, skipping 2020 was tough (as necessary as it was due to… you know, the worldwide pandemic.) But — don’t fret! Before conventions can return safely, Watchers on the Wall is happy to announce Con of Thrones has a nice treat for all of you: virtual Water Dancing workshops with Miltos Yerolemou! Yes, the First Sword of Braavos himself.
By now, I’m sure you’ve heard that Matt Smith, of Doctor Who and The Crown fame has been cast as the Rogue Prince himself, Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon. During a recent Q&A with GalaxyCon Live, Smith was asked what he’s looking forward to most about the role.
When I posted about the official confirmation that the Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon would start production in 2021, I threw in a line about hoping for more HoTD news in the near future. Little did we know the Seven above would take that literally and hand down even bigger news about the series only a week later — including major roles being cast!
Although we’ve reported on everything we can get our greyscale-free hands on — showrunners, writers, filming locations, one or two castings — there has been very little “official” news about HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon. But I’m here to deliver glad tidings, folx: that drought is over.
This has been one hell of a year. So out with 2020, and onward and upward to 2021, we say! With that in mind, it’s time to roll out our newest Watchers worldwide giveaway, featuring the beautiful new edition of the official A Song of Ice and Fire calendar. This year’s calendar includes 13 illustrations (including a fold-out poster) of scenes from George R.R. Martin’s books, painted by artist Sam Hogg. A few images from the calendar were previewed back in July, so luckily we have a taste of what we’ll be seeing in the new year.

When Game of Thrones ended in May 2019, I went into an underground bunker to mourn its loss, and didn’t come out for fresh supplies until this morning. Has anything happened in the months since I left? ….Oh…I see…hmmm…. Well – More time to hunker down and read the next book in A Song of Ice and Fire! When did The Winds of Winter come out? Surely, sometime in the last year? ….Oh…I see…..hmmm… Well, then it must be time to catch up with the one-time cast of Game of Thrones and see what they’re up to these days!
George R.R. Martin who, last we heard was “deep in the heart of Westeros,” has taken to his Not A Blog to grace us with some juicy updates on The Winds of Winter and House of the Dragon.
