WotW Awards Season 5: Best Supporting Actress – Preliminary Round

season5 awards

A few weeks back, we asked you, the fans of Game of Thrones, to provide the pool of nominations for this year’s Watchers on the Wall Awards. The submissions have been sorted, scrutinized, and tallied, and the time has finally come for this year’s awards voting, celebrating season 5, to properly begin.

The first category you’ll all be voting on is Best Supporting Actress. But before we jump into that, we’d like to announce the nominations for Best Actress! The field for Best Actress is much narrower, and so like last year, five nominees will go straight to the finals of Best Actress with no need for a preliminary vote.

The Importance of Depicting Long-Term Trauma in Season 6

Reek

Not to overstate things … but season 6 is going to be kind of important. After last season’s tumultuous ratings, season 6 will be Game of Thrones‘ opportunity to rectify the aspects of the show that garnered vehement criticism, such as its depiction of violence. Now, I generally agree that brutality can be necessary for social commentary, but only if done well. The difference between using violence for shock value and using it to explore the darkest aspects of human nature and society is understanding that the effects of violence long outlast the violence itself. There is no better example of this than Theon Greyjoy, formerly Reek, formerly Ironborn.
