A Song of Ice and Fire Theory Poll 2015!

Editor’s Note: Earlier this year, he shared with us his unique Scientific Wild-Ass Guess (aka SWAG) on the possible publication date of The Winds of Winter. Now he returns to Watchers on the Wall to invite us to take part in an interesting ASOIAF fandom project. Please welcome an old friend of the site, BryndenBFish!  – Sue the Fury

Hello, Watchers on the Wall! Long time, no see. Missed you all. How’s 2015 going? 2016 (and winter) is coming. We all hope for the Son of Kong (that’s The Winds of Winter to those uninitiated in GRRM-speak) and eagerly anticipate the return of Game of Thrones, but in the meantime, we have theories to keep us sated. One of the things I did in 2014 was to determine the popularity of certain theories among 3 separate fandoms (the ASOIAF subreddit, Westeros.org & ASOIAF University). I’d like to do that again this year, but I’m expanding.

A few more photos from the Game of Thones set, in the last week of shooting

Hivju 1

Last Friday on December 11th, a few photos were posted online featuring Kristofer Hivju and the set of Game of Thrones. The pictures were shared on Instagram after a visit from a Panorama Agency agent (Hivju’s representation). They depict the Magheramorne Quarry set in Northern Ireland that plays home to Castle Black, the Wall and occasionally other scenes.

Amusingly, Hivju seems to be wearing the same “You Know Shite All, Jon Snow” shirt that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was spotted wearing in Spain. A gift from a friend or did all the cast members receive those shirts? Either way, it’s hilarious. For a dead guy, Jon Snow is omnipresent.

Hardhome, the walk of shame and a Game of Thrones sex scene included on Best of 2015 lists

samgilly

Game of Thrones makes it onto more End of Year lists celebrating 2015’s best TV shows, episodes, moments and even sex scenes.

HitFix’s annual TV Critics’ Poll places Game of Thrones at #6 on its Top 10 Television Shows of 2015, a list based on twenty-one critics’ top 10 lists.

Mary McNamara of the Los Angeles Times (one of the critics featured in HitFix’s poll, interestingly enough) includes Game of Thrones in her compilation of “the best things to happen on the flat screen this year.” Of Game of Thrones season 5 she wrote, “HBO’s astonishingly ambitious series continued to be astonishing and ambitious. There is still nothing like it on television.”

Mark Gatiss confirms he won’t be in season 6; plus, a casting update!

Tycho
In Season 4’s “The Laws of Gods and Men”

Game of Thrones guest star Mark Gatiss talks to Entertainment Weekly this week in a new interview about the possibility of his return as Tycho Nestoris, the Iron Banker. The British actor has popped up in two episodes, one each in the past two seasons, and was last seen suffering Mace Tyrell’s singing in Braavos. He now confirms that he will not appear in season 6.

As for the future?

“I have hopes,” Gatiss tells EW. “I had dinner with Dan [Weiss] and David [Benioff] when we were in Croatia filming last year and I made what I thought was a very cogent pitch to be the last character alive in the whole saga. There should be a crane shot, everybody’s dead except me. Because, clearly, the only person who can survive is the bank.”

The showrunners greeted his suggestion with a smile, and according to Gatiss, “[P]robably made a note to organize my imminent death.”
