Iwan Rheon on nature vs. nurture and Ramsay’s future on Game of Thrones

Boltons

The UK’s Telegraph has a great interview today with a Game of Thrones star we don’t hear from as frequently as some of the other cast members- Iwan Rheon, who plays the wicked Ramsay Bolton, formerly known as Snow.

The Welsh actor covers a variety of topics including his casting, the show’s hardworking extras, Ramsay’s future, acting, and the question of nurture-vs-nature.

Cogman talks writing; Drogon’s all grown up; HBO holds fans to their word

Bryan CogmanPart of Game of Thrones since the beginning and a favorite of the fans, Bryan Cogman opens up about his writing process in a new interview with the New York Observer.

The interview is very in-depth about the writing (I recommend reading the entire piece) so here are some of the highlights-

On being a writer and a producer:

When we’re shooting, I’m in producer mode. We shoot two units simultaneously at all times so I generally cover the set David and Dan aren’t on, working with the directors, giving notes as needed, advising on anything story-related—basically making sure the story being told is the story we hammered out in the writers’ room. When we’re in post-production, I’m not really involved apart from giving my own notes on cuts of the episodes. By that time I’m focused on the writing of the next season.

First reviews of Game of Thrones Season 5

sansa-and-LF

Screeners of the first four episodes of Game of Thrones Season 5 were sent out to the press and various people of import over the last few days… including our very own Sue the Fury.

We previously rounded up some post-London premiere reviews, but these new ones offer a more rounded opinion as a result of more content having been viewed.

Below are some snippets from said reviews. We can’t really expect any notable spoilers – or in fact much detail at all – but they do serve as a preliminary taste of what the season has to offer as we slowly approach the premiere over the next week.

Review snippets below the cut.

GRRM publishes a new sample chapter from The Winds of Winter

After recently mentioning the possibilty of more The Winds of Winter sample chapters (though he thinks he is approaching the limit of what he is prepared to reveal ahead of time), George R.R. Martin surprised everyone today by putting a new chapter online at his website.

Discuss all the aspects of it below. For obvious reasons, the chapter and the discussion in the comments constitute SPOILERS for The Winds of Winter.

Harry Lloyd launches “Supreme Tweeter” web series

Yesterday, our dear departed Viserys Targaryen launched a short, three-part web series entitled “Supreme Tweeter: A Quirky Tale about an Actor’s Quest for #Celebrity”.

Actor Harry Lloyd hasn’t been in the spotlight since he was killed off in Season 1 of the hit series Game of Thrones. In order to regain his crown he turns to social media, where he finds himself followed by the most Supreme Tweeter.

A quirky 3-part web series, with VERY special guests including George R.R. Martin, Maisie Williams and Tamsin Greig.

Parts 2 and 3 below the cut!

Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau on the cover of TV Guide!

TVG15_C1_GOT_NS.indd

Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will grace the cover of the April 6th-19th edition of TV Guide, in celebration of the fifth season premiere of Game of Thrones on April 12th. The article within contains a nice batch of quotes from the cast of the show, and a cover shoot video as a bonus.

TV Guide visited the studios in Belfast during filming last year to interview the actors and enjoyed the sight of Headey and Coster-Waldau giggling on the set of Tywin’s funeral.  David Benioff tells TV Guide, “They thought it would be really funny to make [Charles Dance] laugh, but he’s a fully committed corpse.”

The article is packed with quotes from the pair on the twins’ complicated relationship, and we also get more teases on the season to come.

Spoilers and the video from TV Guide below the cut!

Interviews with Liam Cunningham & Carice van Houten and Lena Headey

Carice van Houten as Melisandre_photo Helen Sloan_HBO

The Austrian Prime Time has published an interview with Liam Cunningham (Davos) and Carice van Houten (Melisandre). Their double act is entertaining, as always. I have translated the content that has to do with the coming season from German below. For the rest (well worth it), please consult your local linguist, or rely on your own knowledge of the language and/or Google Translate.

A bonus hint: Liam mentions that there will possibly be more scenes with him and Shireen this season.

Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams interviewed by NYT

Photo my Emily Shur, New York Times

It’s a lovely New York Times article! With an interview!

It’s HERE!

FaB thought: I like that the article, written by Jeremy Egner, highlights how unique their situation is. Maisie says, “People say, ‘Do you ever miss being a normal teenager?’ And we don’t really know what that is, I guess. Because this is normal.” Nowadays too many articles try to paint their subjects as being perfectly normal, attempting to (one supposes) make the subject more “relatable” to the reader.

I’d much prefer to read about what makes them unique. And this does!
