After the record-breaking news from the UK, we now have a nugget concerning season four box set sales Stateside.
Variety reports that Game of Thrones: The Complete Fourth Season is toping both of its sales charts for the week of release. That is, it sold more Blu-rays than any other show OR movie, and more home video (Blu-ray and DVD combined) than the competition.
The rest of the top 5 are all new releases of movies, not shows. 54% of the Thrones sales in the first week came from Blu-ray, which was thus slightly preferred over the DVD edition. Unfortunately, official absolute numbers of copies sold have not been reported.
With a thousand eyes and two…
You’re going to help me walk again?
You will never walk again.
E03 – Jamie: “I don’t care.”
E10 – Cersei: “I don’t care.”
Good for the blu-ray. Now where’s season 5 trailer 2 and my extended extended commentary for Breaker of Chains? All men must durrr.
Interesting that GoT as a TV show is competing with Movies
Plus also that people are buying Blu-Ray more than the cheaper DVD version
Reckon it has to be that people enjoy it so much they want to watch it in the highest quality available.
That’s certainly my reason for preferring Blu Ray over DVD at least
Good news!
Also, there’s this:

This goes to show that there is no better advertisement than “pre-viewing” – as long as they keep up the high quality of the show, HBO shouldn’t be too concerned about illegal downloads…
jentario,
Aye. And the ep. length info for 502 and 503.
(Also, who are you on AFOIAF, jentario, I’ve always wondered?)
Greenjones,
Haven’t been on there in a long long time
jentario,
But back in the day, I mean. However many months ago.
Greenjones,
Let me check
EDIT: yep, it’s jentario
jentario,
Just checked and your last post was responding to something I’d said back in November. I’m honoured.
Were you Coldhands the Just for a while? I ain’t seen that name around there in some months.
Greenjones,
Yes
And not long ago they were telling us that Blu Ray was dead in the water as a format thanks to TV on demand etc. Seems that people like a product they can actually own and hold, not to mention all the additional extras on the extra disk space.
The quality of the Bluray transfer is superb, definitely worth the extra fiver over the dvd.
I’ve always discounted the notion that physical media was going away. Not only do people like actually owning a physical product but most of the world has monthly download limits from their ISPs (have to pay to go beyond that). So it is not an option for people living in those countries to download 50 gigs of data, daily.
New post from Making Game of Thrones – The Weapons of Dorne

Jared,
Ah – beautiful work and the usual high standards of GoT. However, this did nothing to quell my fears about the depiction of the SS. Afraid we are going complete cartoony fanboy route. Guess we’ll know soon enough.
Jared,
From the video it looks like that Areo is involved in the Sand Snakes fight as well.
And where is the second trailer?
Carice van Houten in interview with BVN. Doing my best to translate here, sorry for the English.
“(Season 5) is the wildest yet. If you thought you’d seen it all, like I did, you’d be terribly wrong. More nudity, more deaths, characters coming back from the dead, giants, demons. And I’m up to less good than usual. It’s a mess this year”.
Note: I do believe she said “mess” in jest, though you never know with Carice!
minty,
Axel,
Gimme some Wun-Wun!
Patchy Face,
It would be tough to be more cartoony then the books. Their intro chapter is one of the most comic book scenes I’ve ever read.
Axel,
Can you please post the source? 😀
Hoyti Von Totiy,
But one can always dream I suppose.
Hoyti Von Totiy,
I honestly think it’s all our duty to buy the box sets every year.
It’s like a vote in the favor of this show and more shows like it!
Count my vote!
jentario,
Aha. Always suspected that was the case but never knew for certain.
Axel,
Would you mind giving us the source? We can’t really trust anyone talking about characters coming back from the dead anymore…
I bought it for the extras. Went out and bought a BR player just to watch my GoT BRs with the History and Lore sections.
Where’s the second trailer??
That’s really interesting comment! I didn’t think about this but now I agree.
Maybe this death will happen at the end of episode 9 and we’ll see the resurrection at the end of the season… That makes sense!
