Keisha Castle-Hughes on joining Game of Thrones and playing a ‘warrior monk’

Keisha Castle-Hughes

The most anticipated new arrivals of Game of Thrones season 5 are the Martell clan, the family of the recently and gruesomely killed Prince Oberyn (Pedro Pascal). His fierce bastard daughters, the Sand Snakes, are expected to take on a large role next season, and were spotted filming last fall.

Academy Award-nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes, who will be playing eldest Sand Snake Obara, sat down for a chat with New Zealand’s Sunday Star Times. The actress opened up about her extensive training for the physically demanding role, and discussed the world of Dorne.

Kit Harington: Doing Stuff!

kit-harington-kit-harington-36638854-1280-853

You heard it here first: Kit Harington is doing stuff!

Not only is the hirsute heartthrob gearing up for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones (Season Five! Three months away! Insert snazzy and age-appropriate “Get Hype”-ish exclamation!)… he’s making the interview rounds for his film Testament of Youth.

But of course the only thing anyone ever wants to talk about is Game of Thrones.

Because it’s Game of Thrones. C’mon.

(I mean, I’m not saying that specifically because this is a Game of Thrones fan site. Which, you know, should probably be taken into consideration. But look, GoT has infiltrated the pop culture psyche like no HBO show ever has before it. Tony Soprano can go Hodor himself, for all the world cares.)

Game of Thrones IMAX screenings delayed, new premiere date and ticket sales announced!

JS

Fans have been wondering when we’ll learn more about the IMAX showings of Game of Thrones episodes (and a season 5 trailer!) this January, announced on January 6th. There’s been no theater sites posted or ticket sales being offered on websites anywhere, leaving viewers to wonder what the deal was, with the posted IMAX premiere date of January 23rd coming soon.

Today, HBO announced via official press release that the reason for the delay in information is that, due to the unexpected and overwhelming fan response to this event, HBO and IMAX have decided to expand the opening of Game of Thrones in IMAX theaters, causing the show to debut in theaters one week later than planned. Game of Thrones will open in upwards of 200 theaters on January 29th, starting at 10PM, and showings will continue through February 5th.

Tickets go on sale Friday, January 16th.

More details, including confirmed cities, below the cut!

HBO Year in Review: What “Game of Thrones” could – and should – learn

For a cable channel that has long been associated with quality original programming – going as far back as the 1980s, when such series as Fraggle Rock, Tales from the Crypt, and The Kids in the Hall landed it on the map – HBO managed to do the impossible and top itself in 2014.

HBO 2014

It’s normally a pointless (not to mention mindless) task to engage in “best year ever” navel-gazing, but, in this particular instance, it more than justifies itself; not only is it an instructive exercise to see where the future of television may be heading, generally, but also to survey the in-house competition that Game of Thrones, which has been the channel’s flagship series since almost literally the night it premiered back in April 2011, is currently facing – and, even more importantly, what it should be learning from its brethren as it heads into its final stretch.

It turns out that such a comparison is rather illuminating, and one that, sadly, isn’t done enough.

WatchersOnTheWall Game of Thrones Lexicon Updated

wotwlexlogo_title

You spoke and we listened.  The WatchersOnTheWall Game of Thrones Lexicon page has been updated with your feedback.

Back in September of 2014, we announced the creation of a Lexicon page and asked for your input on words and phrases to include.  WotW contributors considered every proposal (yes, even “Myrish swamp”) and debated the merits of each item in regards to its specific significance to the WotW community, both historical and contemporary, in addition to its overall importance in the life of GoT fandom.
