New interviews with Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey and Gwendoline Christie!

Tyrion Sansa Jaime

The Game of Thrones cast interviews are piling up with ONE DAY (!) left to the premiere so let’s cut the small talk and get right to it!

First up:

Peter Dinklage talks to Entertainment Weekly in a great new article about Tyrion’s motives in season 5, and whether he thinks Tyrion will ever wind up on the Iron Throne. (Check out the whole interview at EW.) He also names his all-time favorite scene and it’s something of a surprising choice- the much-debated Orson Lannister beetle-smashing scene from “The Mountain and the Viper.” Peter’s thoughts on it:

I loved the scene with [Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in season 4] when we’re talking about our cousin. There’s so much in the show that’s necessary to push the story forward because everybody is just trying to stay alive. And so many of those scenes last year in the cell really defined all these different relationships in Tyrion’s life. I loved the lines about their cousin, who’s a bit thick and smashing the beetles. Because it was about something from their past. It’s like Tyrion’s in shock, or something. He doesn’t know why he’s telling that story and he just wants to know what it was about, and what life is about, and it had such an abstract non-f–king King’s Landing feel to it. It was such a fresh breath. I loved that monologue. Whether I serviced it or not is a matter of opinion.

Bryan Cogman UTA gala interview: transcribed!

Brian-Cogman
(Yes, this took me a long time to write up. Worth it.)

Last night in Beverly Hills (swimming pools, movie stars) the United Talent Agency (UTA) held a screening of the Game of Thrones season 5 premiere episode, titled “The Wars to Come.” This was a lovely, fanciful affair held to benefit the Larchmont Charter School in a small, cushy theater that bore a sound system capable of rattling fillings from teeth. It (and the episode) was spectacular.

After the show (but before a complimentary open bar was opened for those in attendance), Bryan came down to the stage to answer a few questions. Herein lies my transcription of said interview. I’ll warn you ahead of time that I was only able to ask one question! (Sorry, folks!)

So without further ado, the UTA interview with Bryan Cogman: (MILD SPOILERS, especially with regard to the season 5 premiere episode!)

Review Round-up: Game of Thrones season 5 going strong in critics’ eyes

Arya

With screeners watched and the premiere just three days away, the reviews are pouring in now. Though a few journalists have their criticisms of season 5, in general the reviews of Game of Thrones so far are very encouraging and exciting.

Time‘s James Poniewozik says the show is still “a magnificent beast: bold, confident and venturing off in new directions” and that “Game of Thrones is flying, full tilt, toward a destination off the edge of our map of the known world. I can’t wait to see what it finds there.”

Alan Sepinwall at Hitfix says of the season’s opening episodes,This isn’t the best four-episode stretch the series has ever had — as with most cable dramas, the ends of “GoT” seasons tend to be stronger than the starts — but there’s a sense of real forward momentum to the proceedings that hasn’t always been there in the past. Again and again, my pulse quickened as I watched these four hours, at times thrilling to an event or character intersection that I’d been waiting years to see (my notes are riddled with the phrase “it’s about damn time”), at others cheering things that I didn’t even know  I wanted to see until they happened.”

Croatian locations video for Game of Thrones S5

HBO Adria has published an exclusive video featuring the locations in Croatia used in the coming season, with the cast (Iain Glenn, Michiel Huisman, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Nathalie Emmanuel) and crew (David Benioff, Deborah Riley, D.B. Weiss, Christina Moore, Bernadette Caulfield) commenting on the shoot and on how beautiful the country is. All I can say is well done, neighbours! 🙂

Unlike the video from Spain, this one is not dubbed but uses subtitling instead (as per the local norm), making it much more accessible to the general audience. Enjoy it below!

Many moons ago, at another time in another place, a sweet little Scottish lady read an article written by yours truly regarding her final act on Game of Thrones and praising her for her work on both the series as well as other mediums.

Little did I know that the article would serve as a catalyst in cultivating a beautiful yet unexpected friendship.

Sometimes, the stars align. And I can honestly tell you that Kate is as wonderful a person as she is an actress.

So Ladies and Sers, without further delay, please enjoy a WotW exclusive. A man finally got an interview with his dear Lysa… Continue reading →
