Game of Thrones main viewers more Davos than Stark (A Piracy News Round-Up)

The next two weeks of viewing reports for HBO’s Game of Thrones will be rather interesting in light of the piracy scandal that hit the web just hours before the Season 5 premiere.

In case you’ve been living under Casterly Rock these past few weeks, the first four episodes were leaked in screener format to various torrent platforms across the internet. The leaks came from a still unidentified source who was sent the episodes in consideration and with an immense amount of trust from HBO.

HBO issued a statement in regards on April 12th  “Sadly, it seems the leaked four episodes of the upcoming season of Game of Thrones originated from within a group approved by HBO to receive them,” HBO said. “We’re actively assessing how this breach occurred.”

Alexander Siddig on Doran, the women of Dorne, and being a fan-favorite for the role

Siddig

Giving an interview to Blastr, Alexander Siddig talks about winning the role of Prince Doran on Game of Thrones, the ladies of Dorne, and how he developed his character.

Siddig also discusses being a fan favorite for the role long before he was cast:

I was told by one of the producers that there was an online forum where fans suggested who they would like to play characters and I was thrilled to find out that I was one of the names on the list for Doran. It was exciting, but then terrifying, because I had to play the guy right because so many people expect me to!  I was really honored they even thought of me. It’s always astonishing as an actor – especially one who operates below the radar – that anyone knows who you are at all. I generally have a career as a supporting actor and as such you tend to stay low level and unknown. Obviously, Star Trek and 24 get you out there a little bit, but I’m still trying to make my mark.

Game of Thrones episode 502 drops in live viewership

While retaining the crown of the best rated cable show of the night, the inevitable drop from the premiere happened this week when it comes to the number of viewers for the initial airing. However, it is likely a bigger drop than some expected. The second episode of season 5 was watched by 6.81 million people, more than a million fewer than last week. Another 0.7 million watched the repeat, just like last week, for a total of 7.5 million.

The number is still high, and somewhere around the last season average. I have no doubt that the discussion will be ripe now as to how much the four-episode leak contributed to the numbers (it happened mere hours before the premiere, so it is reasonable to expect an effect only now).

NOTICE: We are trying out the STORIFY version of this Twitter post thang! Basically so it doesn’t destroy the timespace continuum with its massive size and loading speeds. Let us know if this is a better/worser thing!

No reason to delay this any longer; these freaking posts are long enough as it is.

UPDATED:  To remove the scrolling window that the first commenters were complaining about.  There are still page links so all of the Tweets don’t show at once but no more scroll bar.  Enjoy!

Game of Thrones: Post-Mortem of “The House of Black and White”

Jaqen Hghar x

An exciting episode of Game of Thrones saw an unexpected return and a host of events building on the drama of the season premiere. “The House of Black and White” brings us a batch of new interviews today, examining the rejections and returns.

First things first, make sure you check out our brand-new exclusive interview with Brienne of Tarth herself, Gwendoline Christie!

Christie also spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the events of last night’s episode, and the fateful meeting at the inn.

“Brienne kneels before Sansa in an exact mimic of the oath she made to Catelyn Stark,” the actress says. “And Sansa says, ‘No.’ But in the script, it says there’s the tiniest look in Sansa’s eyes. The script says the look is telling Brienne: ‘Get the f–k out of Dodge.’”
