The North Remembers: November 2011

Raven LogoSo, what was going on in the GoT community three years ago? November was a quiet month, as usual. Filming winding down, and it still being too early for extensive promotion. Nevertheless …

  • Some of the last shots in Northern Ireland was scenes from Renly’s and Robb’s camps. We learned about dissent in Robb’s storyline, with people badmouthing Talisa (her name then yet unknown) as “that foreign woman”. We also got the confirmation that Craster’s Keep was filmed in NI.
  • The Making GoT blog teased about the night-time battle shoot which later resulted in Blackwater.
  • We got our first small sneak peek of Qarth, shot earlier in Croatia, via Entertainment Weekly.
  • The Northern Ireland part of filming wrapped on the 18th. Soon after, however, the production moved to Iceland.
  • Edward Dogliani was announced to play Rattleshirt by GRRM, that was one of the last casting tidbits for the season.
  • If you do not count Icelandic extras and horses (15 of the latter), that is.
  • The DVD of season one was announced for March! Ah, first season … and now we are already awaiting the box sets of Season Four.
  • The biggest thing, and the most exciting one that month, was the release of this S2 behind the scenes “In Production” video. Good old days indeed.

  1. I enjoy these retrospectives but they’re just not the same without the links! I understand why that’s not appropriate anymore though… 🙂

  2. Edward Dogliani has been tweeting about being in Iceland recently. Think it’s anything to do with GoT? I hope his character is back.

  3. Accidentally posted about this in another thread.

Related to the Rattleshirt thing, I’m wondering why there’s been no “Froggy” posts from Martin this year. Really thought there would have been one, ideally for Manderly.

Hopefully it’s because he’s working on The Book.

  5. I know I’m a little late to the party on this, but thank you staff of WotW for not posting meaningless click bait like some other sites. You guys run a great site and I’m always excited when there is a new post, so thank you.

  6. I just completed ‘iron from ice’ it was absolutely briliant. I really loved how they wrote the characters that are in the series/books, ramsay & cersei were down extremely briliant. Tyrion was nice, more of his book self though. Margeary was Okeish, but that is mostly because I think I wasn’t paying enough attention in the books/show on her character.

Overall very good series and if anyone was doubting if they should get it; go get it it was absolutely briliant and GRR Martin worthy.

  7. davy,

Good to hear. We will write a piece once we find the time to finish the game, so we can discuss it properly 🙂

Telltale’s game of thrones has just released, very excited for it.

Just played it! Mira Forrester is the best version of Sansa we have ever gotten! This includes both books and show :p

Halfway through it as of right now. My only gripe with it (spoilers ahead) is that they didn’t really get creative with the characters. I mean, a northern house who values honor, 5 childs, the well-respected father and the eldest son die away from home early in the story, the heir is a young boy who now has to stand for the Lord of the house, the eldest daughter is in KG getting threatened by cersei and told that her family are traitors, the “squire” was raised as if he was one of the childs and is sent to the Night’s Watch… Sounds weirdly familiar doesn’t it 🙂
Anyway, it’s a good game. Just wish they went for something more original instead of basicly re-creating the Stark family tragedy.
Oh and Marg’s face looks really weird. All the other major characters from the show are really well represented in-game. And thank god for the real actors voice-overs.

  10. The North Remembers! Glad to see another one of these posts :). I really hope Edward Dogliani returns as Rattleshirt next season *crosses fingers* 😀
