Announcement: Please welcome four new WatchersOnTheWall staff members!

We have four, count ’em, four new additions to introduce to the community today. Although some of them are quite familiar to readers of the site already!

But before we get to that, I’d like to announce that our writer Bex will be taking on the position of Features Editor for the site. She’ll be managing the special features, guest editorials and convention reports that we’ll be sharing with you on WatchersOnTheWall.

Now, onto the new blood!

Please give a warm welcome to:

BlaireBlaire will be taking on the role of a news and interviews wrangler here. Her skill at finding Game of Thrones info is already well proven, as she worked with several members of the WotW team back at the old site as Lightbringer. She’s Canadian, which explains the mysteriously large number of U’s in her posts.

HouseOfGravyDame Pasty is a longtime supporter-of-the-bottom, member of our community, and A Song of Ice and Fire fan, formerly known to us as Ms. D. Ranged. She’s our go-to person for technical issues, with her professional experience, and occasionally she’ll be contributing some pieces to the site as well.

imageBlaqfyre will be helping out with our social networking and taking the reins of the WatchersOnTheWall Tumblr. A New Yorker and a gamer, Blaqfyre loves playing with Photoshop, and making graphics and gifs. She enjoys writing as well, and is never lacking for an opinion.

MarcMarc N. Kleinhenz is an experienced writer familiar to many of you; his “Anatomy of a Throne” analysis pieces covered season 4 of Game of Thrones, and he’ll be continuing the series here at WotW for season 5. He’ll be doing special features for us, with one post a month in the off-season, and also, a very special major project later this year that we’ll be announcing a little bit down the road. So stay tuned!

Please give the warmest welcome to our new team members, as they’re all very excited about taking the black.

Sue the Fury

  1. That one wants a mango? I’ll give it to him

And hello new staffers. Surprised and happy to see Lightbringer here, she was good with interviews

  2. Lol, yet more defections. Welcome (back) to the best GoT page 😀

EDIT: And hurray for more British spelling 🙂

    Ser Blount Sarkasm:
    Great news!Welcome all!!

Dude, you wasted a perfect opportunity for a ‘Hodor’ :p

  3. I figured Thoros was going to be among these as well but anyway good luck to the new additions .

  4. Just a quick heads-up, I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but the names of the four new writers are written in the black box at the top of the page (next to FAQ) and when I click on it I get ‘page not found’.

  5. Awesome as always – the site just keeps getting better and better. Congrats to all the new staff! (And, as always, great job to Sue the Fury)

  6. Welcome! Dornish Red or Arbor Gold?

So now there’s no one left on the sinking ship, but the new editor and the Live Show guys. Seven Save you WiC, I sure won’t bother with Fansided anymore

  7. Dolorous Ned,

Well there was that Thoros guy, sorry i don’t know his real name, that hasn’t jumped ship yet or as of yet, which i find it surprising considering he has good relations with the people from this site .

  8. Hello to all of you ! Mark and Blaire (I honestly prefered Lightbringer as a nickname, but that’s mostly cause I’m french and I cant say “blaire” is a positive word in French ! ^^) I already know your work and I’m glad to see you here.

Dame Patsy and Blaqfyre, looking forward to your posts !

  9. I love to see the team grow! I’m sure you all will be a great addition to the WotW staff. Welcome! 🙂

  10. Even though this is the Wall and we’re all freezing our arses out here, a very warm welcome to you all! I’m sure you’ll serve with valour and honour.

Yeah, expect to see a lot of Us in my comments too. Are we going to have a U and Non-U division on this site??

  11. De-lurking momentarily to say:

    Huzzah! This is so great.

Welcome to the Wall, you creative quartet! This is the place to be for GOT and now it is even better.

Here. Have a hot drink, because as A Girl says, we’re freezing out here. 😉

  12. Seems like four strong additions.

I’d like to warmly welcome all of you. This site will surely be strengthened further. It really is wonderful watching this site grow and grow.

    Always support the bottom!

  13. OK…. Now with Lightbringer and Mark Kleinheinz also coming over, I almost feel sorry for Fansided!

I guess Cocktails will be all that they’re left with…

  14. Thank you for all of the warm welcomes! I’m super excited to join such an amazing team, and to take the black, I think the colour suits us all.

    #TeamU 😀

  15. Blaire/Lightbringer I want to thank you for keeping me going at the old site in the days it took me to find the new one. By delaying your transfer you have eased the transition. You and the other three new recruits are most welcome.

  16. Welcome!! Really excited to see what new content ya’ll have in store for aSoIaF junkies such as myself.

  17. Congrats to both the new additions and the crew already at work for expanding further and further with each passing day. It’s always good to welcome both renowned editors and newcomers to a web page that is, as of now, one of the best GoT news sources out there. A special shout-out to Blaire, whose posts as Lightbringer over at WiC I’ve grown to love and who was actually the only factor holding my attention to that website. Now that you’re here, I think many should consider following your example. You moving to WotW was a wise transition; glad to have you on the best team!

  18. Thanks for the announcement!

So glad to have everyone. I feel like our team is diverse and strong. I’m glad Blaire has been able to join us here!

  19. Awesome news! It’s so nice to see committed members of the community get these opportunities.

  20. Lavignac,

Not even that. Or rather, they’ll have competition on that front too as I’ve been trying and testing GoT-themed cocktails with friends and plan to post recipes on the forum when I have a moment. (No grating videos, just recipes) (If anyone’s interested) (I actually know how to mix drinks, nobody need fear poisoning)

  21. “Favour” and “behaviour” are abominations. Abominations, I say! It’s “Favor” and “behavior”!

Blaqfyre: I’m also in New York City, but I haven’t been to local conventions lately. Are you a student somewhere?

Bex: I don’t approve of all the curse words that were used against you, but I hope your fighting with Linda will eventually be resolved. We are all fans.

  22. I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all of the new contributors, both familiar and brand-new to us long-term residents here at the bottom of the Wall! Once again, it feels like old times around here in all the best ways.

  23. Growing Strong!

Welcome, peeps! I’ve know Dame Pasty for a while now–we get along famously–and am basically fanboi-ing out over us getting Marc, whose work I have long admired over at Tower of the Hand, among other notable places.

Welcome too to the enigmatic Artist Formerly Known as Lightbringer, and Blaqfire–yo, I’m a gamer too!

And Bex? She’s better than sex. It is known.

Ladies and gentletwerps, I think this is an official calling of the banners! And the banners have answered!

  24. Dame Pasty,

    That was fast 🙂

    Axechucker:
Ladies and gentletwerps, I think this is an official calling of the banners! And the banners have answered!

Yeah, now let us put our weapons aside and go celebrate a wedding 😀

  25. The Dragon Demands:
“Favour” and “behaviour” are abominations.Abominations, I say!

Welcome, new folks! Good to see you here on the Wall!

Bex: As long as ur civil, you keep fighting the good fight.

    #UAbominations!

  26. A Girl Will Obey,

I would be. I do the same thing with my friends sometimes and I’m always looking for new ideas. 🙂 – But it really is a thing for the forum, not for the site.

    DonalNoyesArm,

But wasn’t there another Lightbringer? I think Fury said so once. Maybe they have one left. 🙂

  27. Axechucker:

Ladies and gentletwerps, I think this is an official calling of the banners! And the banners have answered!

Now on to the war.. uhm, i mean.. uhm..

    ROAARR! 😀

    Welcome to the new staffers..

New Brothers (and Spearwomen) are always welcome! 🙂

  28. Good news about good peeps!
I’ve enjoyed the comments of Dame Pasty/Ms. D. Ranged for some time now and am pleased to see her applying her wit to this site.
As we’ve seen, Lightbringer/Blaire is a solid, productive “get” for us. So glad to see her here.
Not a gamer, but looking forward to the variety Blaqfyre will bring.
And I’m just tickled to see Marc Kleinhenz with his ASoIaF depth perception on the roster.
Hot damn! Even more goodness and gravitas!

  29. True fans coming to the true site. I love it.

Also, I hate every person that is with WiC with a passion.

  30. Axechucker:

    Growing Strong!

Welcome, peeps! I’ve know Dame Pasty for a while now–we get along famously–and am basically fanboi-ing out over us getting Marc, whose work I have long admired over at Tower of the Hand, among other notable places.

Oh, my! If I weren’t already married with children…

    😉

    ~M.

  31. welcome to the wall! just don’t make your visits to Mole’s Town common knowledge and you’ll be fine.

  32. YAY! I missed you guys! Just found out about this site & the fact that the original WIC writers are apparently running it, which makes this guy veryyy happy!

The steady decline in quality at WIC has been going on from the moment Winter left, and its only getting worse, lannister cocktails? Really?

  33. So happy Lightbringer made it!!!!

Also – look forward to reading posts from the new staff!!!

    Edit: *Fury

  34. Welcome all you beautiful people!
I reckon greatjon of slumber should get a title too. He does some amazing stuff and i still remember his awesome post over at wic!

  35. Welcome All
One problem Blaire is apparently a Blood elf I mean they are pretty and all but they are EVEL!

  36. Great news indeed! Glad to see Lightbringer make her way to the Wall and a warm welcome to the rest of the recruits joining the Watch.

Also, team U all the way.

  37. Great additions to the Wall, together we’ll fend of that winter that is rumoured to be coming! Nice also to have the writer’s bios up so that we know who you are. Over at the evil stepmother site, I often didn’t have a clue the last few months who was posting, and that created a lot of distance between contributor and reader. I hope and am confident that we won’t be seeing too many “WotW Staff” posts over here! Also, great to see that there’s exactly as many male as female staff (I count Axey as omnisexual, or possibly nonsexual) – who was that petty reviewer again that had nothing good to say about GoT’s female fans in the first season??

  38. Thank you all for the awesome welcome! I will mainly be on the WotW tumblr, though I will certainly lurk about on here (so yes you should definitely go there and send in asks/requests for posts, suggestions and all of those good things) (and of course share your thoughts and opinions on ASOIAF) (or even just to reblog that picture of a little bird taking a bath in the sink) (UGHHHH SO CUTE) (okay not sure why I’m still using parentheses but it’s too late to stop now). Anyway, I’m really excited to be a part of such an amazing fandom and I look forward to speaking with you all!

  39. Veltigar: Lol, yet more defections.

When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die 😉

    Blaire: #TeamU 😀

Wulcum, und yu cun cunt mu un fur TuumU!

A Girl Will Obey: I’ve been trying and testing GoT-themed cocktails with friends and plan to post recipes on the forum

Ha, I love your spirit: take the item we all loathed on the evil stepmother site, and make it great!

    Axechucker: famously

As a ‘Murican, shouldn’t you spell that without the u? (/sarcasm)

Arya Dunyett: Not a gamer, but looking forward to the variety Blaqfyre will bring.

In one thread a few days past, Marko hinted at a feature that might be coming with more technical dissections of episodes, so maybe that’s something Blaqfyre could contribute? Or one of the other newstaffies… I don’t care, as long as it comes, because that could be a great new feature!

Marc N. Kleinhenz: Oh, my! If I weren’t already married with children…

I think Axey would make a great concubine…

    direkrikit:
welcome to the wall!just don’t make your visits to Mole’s Town common knowledge and you’ll be fine.

You forget that in this glorious Age, the Watchers on the Wall are 51% female – no need to head for Mole’s Town any longer! (Let’s all get to producing some baby Crows right away so that we never again have to go begging to them Kings in the South)

Athelred: One problem Blaire is apparently a Blood elf I mean they are pretty and all but they are EVEL!

    Who cares… she’s p r e t t y!!!

  40. My comment is ‘awaiting moderation’… Oops, I guess that’s what happens when your post includes too many quotes 🙂

  41. Hear Marko Roar,

    Thanks M!

Hear Marko Roar: As for my earlier comment, it referred to Marc joining the team.

Ok, then great as that is, you might still need one additional Staff member with a background in filmography/photography to dissect the episodes from a technical perspective? 😉

  42. More people with a passion for GoT! I’m looking forward to your contributions.

Tar Kidho: Also, great to see that there’s exactly as many male as female staff

That is great, equality of the sexes ftw. Geographically there’s quite an imbalance though: I count 9 North Americans and 2 Europeans. Oh well.

  43. Tar Kidho,

Do you have someone to put forward? Now that we have people to manage special and guest features, that’s easily handled 😉

  44. Hear Marko Roar,

Sorry can’t help you there (personally I’m a semi-decent amateur photographer, but I don’t know anything about cinematography, and wouldn’t have the time to commit anyway…and don’t know anyone that does) But maybe one of our fellow Watchers feels up for the task??

Lollius Palicanus: That is great, equality of the sexes ftw. Geographically there’s quite an imbalance though: I count 9 North Americans and 2 Europeans.

Since every European is worth at least 10 North Americans, that’s quite an imbalance indeed 😉

  45. I was talking about the other continents too 😉 Not a criticism btw, merely an observation.

  46. Lollius Palicanus,

Ah yes, the OTHER continents… like Westeros and Essos? No, seriously now, you’re right of course – more geographical diversity could only be better, even if the internet has no borders. One thing that directly sprang to mind was that in Japan for instance there might be some great GoT themed manga style fan-art around, and sure enough… (actually made by a Chinese artist)

  47. To Editors on Watchers on the Wall.

Would it be an idea for you, to urge your fans to stop trolling the wintersiscoming.net site?? It has become rather painful to watch, and not doing anything good for your site.

    Best Regards,
Someone who would like to keep reading on both sites.

  48. Like I said, it is merely an observation (I primarily reacted because of the Canadian discussion going on). I’m not actively calling for more ‘geographical diversity’.
Personally, I mainly care that the content is good. So long as a lack of people from different world regions does not imply a lack of seeing some things differently, I don’t really care about it. And WotW being a medium which uses text, you have to have people who master the English language, who are not always that easily found outside of the Anglophone world (I think Marko is the exception within the team?). On top of that, I wonder if it is truly better for diversity to have a form of ‘Tokenism’.

  49. Lollius Palicanus,

I seem to be the exception, yes 🙂

As to trolling at WiC.net – I’m not a fan either, far from it, flogging a dead horse and all that. Oz did call for moving on after he explained everything there was to be explained. Things will die down, hopefully (and I think it already is).

  50. Lou Reed,

They don’t really have any control on that site or the people that post there. You should be asking the posters, not the editors.

  51. Just found you guys, or should that be re-found, after noticing a dearth of non information on the old site. I am so glad to see you all back, in black. (if a website needed a theme tune then you can have that one)

Looking forward to spending this off/on season with you.

  52. Readers will help us most if they keep spreading the word of our site on social media and elsewhere. Thanks!

  53. Dame Pasty,

    My Dame,

As one dame to another, a couple of us have replied to your forum post regarding possible historical inspirations for the new season of “Game of Thrones”. I made a terrible mess of my first three attempts at posting though – three blank comments though it was fourth time lucky.

Back on topic, I will be interested to read the contributions of the new members of staff as they appear on the site.

  54. Lou Reed,

I do not know if you meant me, but as someone who ended up posting a link to wotw on wic in a post where you were commenting, I will give my reasons.

A reader of wic was complaining of the way You were (heavily) spoiling the next two books without any tag whatsoever on a post that did not really call for spoilers (or even worse untagged one) in my opinion. He was saying that he had moved to wic because he heard it was a better community than the spoiling one of imdb and that he was disappointed at the moderation of the spoilers and at the spoilering nature of the sullied (in this case: You).

I kindly explained that moderation was slow on WiC these days due to changes in staff (True). I also said that a lot of the community had moved to a new site with the former staff of WiC (True). I did add something about the fact that the community that had moved to the new site was the ‘non spoiling’ one, I admit this may have been a bit harsh but I have to say it seems quite true to me and you not tagging your spoilers doesn’t help.

  55. My warmest congratulations to:
    Blaire,
    Dame Pasty,
    Blaqfyre,
    and Marc.

I look forward to your contributions!

  56. I expected Lightbringer to take the black, because she didn’t post anything for several days at WiC.net, Sue gave some vague hints and Fansided announced they’d have a completely new staff over there (well, at least Rebecca Pahle and Thoros are still part of the WiC team apparently). Anyway, welcome to all four new staff members!

  57. The Building of the Wall continueth. Welcome new Crows!

    Lou Reed,
I think I can speak for the rest of the founders of WotW when I say we are actively discouraging all trolling of any other sites. As I am sure you are aware, policing the vast wasteland of internet comments is a hopeless venture that none of us is able to control.

My hope is that Old Nan closes the door on the past as we have and they start anew with no further inference as to our values or morals or professionalism.

We are here to build a Wall. Not burn a castle.

Regardless, we are glad you and all good people of the realm have chosen to join us.

  58. Tar Kidho: who was that petty reviewer again that had nothing good to say about GoT’s female fans in the first season??

Ginia Bellafante from the The New York Times. Good old times… Why do you ask?

  59. Welcome and congratulations to the new contributors. I’m so glad the WoTW site exists, this is home to the best GoT fans in the world. Looking forward to all the new content.

(I admit I still drop by WiC occasionally. Wow, talk about a ghost town. The commenters left who post there now aren’t even in the same league as the people here.)

  60. This site just upped itself in the vagina department.

    We need more dick.

    Congrats and welcome!

  61. Yeah for Lightbringer!! I felt badly leaving her there at the old site, and was hoping she’d somehow find her way here!

  62. Re the “u” controversy – I am American but have used the ‘U’ on several occasions and probably will here as well. Must be ambidextrous or something.. Post as will.

  63. Abyss,

After noting that WotW (obviously the best GoT fan site around) is run by an equal mix of males and females, that was mostly a rhetorical question. Thanks anyway though to remind me who that very forgettable woman was.

  64. Mine is the Furry,

You can be dickish enough when you choose to be.

The balance is a good one, and we are celebrating the newcomers in this post. Hip hip hooray, and always support the bottom.

  65. Welcome, new staff! Glad we’ve got some more writers, and more Canadians is always a good thing too. Surprised and happy to see Lightbringer here! I always thought ‘she’ was a ‘he’. Welcome, all!

  66. Ha! Interesting you snagged. “Light bringer”.

Please keep up the good work but please can we ask for a little constraint in the number of posts? I would imagine that the main editors would already have gone over this tho.

  67. Really, it’s sad over at WIC. 17 comments on their Emmy thread… 7 of which are written by the editor and the CEO.

  68. Welcome, welcome, welcome all, to these humble yet awesome new abodes of the long suffering, and now increasingly migrating GoT fandom!

Welcome one, welcome all! As that mortally obese lady with a large torch, The Statue Of Liberty, said “Give me your poor, your huddled masses!” And we have, all of us poor huddled GoT fandom pilgrims who escaped the conflicts of the Old World and settled on the promising shores of this new one!

I am particularly happy and proud to see a fellow Canuck join the upper crust, the high ranks of this site’s ruling nomenclature…ahhh Houses…high born…powers that be…one percent…oh ok, I’ll stop!

I, one of the Small Folk about to die some horrible, anonymous literary ASOIF death, salute and welcome you!

Hey Blair, how is it going EH?! I’m interested readin’ aboot anythin’ you have to write aboot!

As for all the gringos ( green go…because of the colour of the US $), on this site, you better learn how treat your Canuck right!!! You remember what we did to the Baldwin brothers when you arrested our Terrence and Phillip and sang “Blame Canada” at the Oscars!

If you don’t treat Blair right, the Canuck Army, all three of them, will take our last remaining propeller boosted World War I bomber and we will do the same, as in complete anihilation, of the cast of Glee as well as Joan and Melissa Rivers! Though I have to hand it to you that you have suffered greatly at the hands of Justin Bieber (please keep him…we don’t want him back!) !!!

    So in conclusion…poutine for everybody!
