The North Remembers: December 2011

Raven LogoWhat did December three years ago bring us? Let’s take a look, with some more links than usual.

  • We got our first look at Arya with a short hairdo from S2. A look that she got stuck with all the way until the coming season!
  • A report from filming in Iceland gave as the very first glimpse of Ygritte
  • On December 11, 2011, filming of S2 officially wrapped, and the familiar wait for promos began.
  • Well, the first S2 teaser was available right on the day!
  • Some ten days later, we got this behind-the-scenes look based on Belfast locations.
  • Our community founder WinterPhil listed the following as the top 5 Thrones moments of 2011: (i) his (and Axey’s) TCA involvement from the beginning of the year, where they met GRRM, D&D, and Dinklage; (ii) Said Dinklage winning an Emmy; (iii) the amazing Maester’s Path promo campaign; (iv) the NY moot, featuring Finn Jones; (v) experiencing the premiere of Game of Thrones (and the other 9 episodes of the first season). Yup, it was a good year, for sure.

Happy New Thrones Year, everybody!

A (Mini) Murder of Crows: The year in review

The holidays always mean hectic schedules and compressed timetables – well, not to mention merriment, time with families, and copious amounts of food and drink, but of course – so the crows on the Wall weren’t able to fully devote themselves to the conversation at hand.

But that’s all right, since we have a bite-sized morsel to chew over, anyway, and we all still wanted to deliver one last murder for everyone to sit back with and enjoy as the holiday season – and the year that was 2014 – finally recedes into the oblivion that is called the past.

Thank you for joining us with these (still) somewhat experimental roundtables, specifically, and the entire Watchers on the Wall site, generally. It’s been a great ride so far… but you haven’t seen anything yet.

Game of Thrones on many Best Of TV Lists for 2014

2014 is on its way out the door, which means the entertainment industry is inundating the Internet with their “Best Of” lists and articles.  And no surprise, Game of Thrones is featured in a lot of them. So here’s a little something GoT-related whilst we twiddle away the months waiting for something official from the folks at HBO (For Seven’s Sake, anything! We’d be happy for anything original at this point…ahem…sorry got carried away).

Update: Add to your reading list Andy Greenwald’s Top Ten over at Grantland (ht to Jared for the link).

Looking Forward, Game of Thrones Season 5 Part 2: The Story That Shan’t Be Told

bran (1)

Holiday greetings to you and yours and welcome to another edition of Looking Forward where Unsullied, village-idiot, show-watchers only woefully attempt to make sense of Game of Thrones news and views and clues that have been left under the tree during seasons past.

This installment is brought to you by Watchers on the Wall in a partnership with the Uneducated Unsullied Academy of Astapor (UUAA) where a man has been busy training other Unsullied warriors the ins-and-outs of the art of knowing absolutely nothing (Jon Snow campus opening soon).

In keeping with the theme of knowing nothing, our lesson today will focus on the story that apparently won’t be told in season 5.  Please show up to class on time and be prepared to learn very little.

Sullied are encouraged to attend, but are discouraged (heavily) on adding spoiler discussion.  Besides, what else do you have to do?  You are either waiting on the jolly fat man to slide down your chimney with a new book, or you are waiting on Santa Claus.

Regardless, class starts now…

Game of Thrones featured in TV Guide’s Cheers and Jeers of the Year

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Game of Thrones is featured in TV Guide’s “Cheers and Jeers” of 2014. (It’s a Cheer!) The show is considered by the magazine as one of the best on TV this year.

TV Guide put together a video of their Cheers and Jeers and it’s available on youtube. Game of Thrones pops up around 2:06, with comments from the cast at Comic Con this year on the TV Guide yacht, and two quick shots of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).
