Season five casting news and exclusive updates!

Loboda

We have some fresh Game of Thrones casting info today, plus exclusive new details and confirmations from WatchersOnTheWall sources about previously reported castings. Let’s get right to it!

WotW commenter Greenjones uncovered on IMDb two days ago that Zachary Baharov (or Zahary- his agency says one name, IMDB says another) will be playing the role of Loboda. IMDb can be unreliable (*cough*), but Baharov’s agency CV also states that he’s playing the role so this is legit.

News Roundup: Ice thrones, Lost Lands, and Sophie Turner talks

Sophie Turner

The Game of Thrones news is flowing this week! Here are a few more tidbits to enjoy:

  • Sophie Turner is featured in the newest edition of Town & Country. In the in-depth profile, Sophie discusses what it was like growing up on GoT.

Sansa and I have grown up together for the past five years and so when I’m reading the script and something happens to her, I cry all the time. There is a real connection between us – I feel everything she feels. I’d come on set and see something like Ned’s beheading, a heavy, heavy scene to shoot. Having my mum on set for the first three years was really important back then. Because if you get too wrapped up in that darkness, it can really damage you.

About that Game of Thrones “spoiler” going around today….

Daniel Portman as Podrick Payne and Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth _ photo Helen Sloan_HBO

False rumors on the internet are nothing new, especially in the Game of Thrones fandom. In the early days of the show, before filming even began, there were IMDb shenanigans when a creative fan added Holly Marie Combs’s name to the cast listings as playing the part of Catelyn Stark. Obviously that was untrue, and it demonstrated just how easy it is for anyone with a login to update the movie and television database.

Part of IMDb’s charm is that anyone can update it, but unfortunately it can lead to trolling and misinformation and that is the case this week when the cast listing for a season five episode was updated.

MAJOR SPOILERS below the cut!

Game of Thrones in IMAX : promise for future, room for experimentation

781327625141522603

The success of Game of Thrones in its first weekend of IMAX may be paving the road for future excursions on the big screen.

Despite six month-old content being shown on a limited amount of theaters, Game of Thrones racked up $1.5 million.

“It’s a very healthy result,” said Phil Contrino, vice president and chief analyst at BoxOffice.com. “I think you’re going to see shows like ‘House of Cards’ or other popular programs looking into this now. If you put a season premiere or series finale there, I think there’s a lot of potential, especially if there’s some exclusive element.”

Game of Thrones Season Four box set details

BluRayThe Blu-ray of the last season is coming out on Tuesday, February 17th, about two months before the Game of Thrones S5 premiere. Same as every year, I’m looking forward to expanding my boxset collection and savour all the extras to tide me over until the airing of new instalments in April. At least one review of the boxset is already available, so you can decide whether you want to get it or not (in case you haven’t preordered it yet).

It goes without saying that the audio and video are of highest quality and receive top grades.

As to the actual content of the season – well, we know everything about that, don’t we. The actual newsworthy bit is that thanks to Brian White from whysoblu? we can examine the precise contents of the digital package, with the extras listed in detail, which is the information of utmost interest to us.

Check it out after the break.

Weekend Roundup: Making dragons, box office returns, Diana Rigg dishes Season 5, and more!

Rigg
Here are your weekend highlights of the best of Game of Thrones news! Featuring Diana Rigg, Pixomondo’s outstanding effects, the Art Directors Guild Awards and the latest box office returns!

Game of Thrones cleaned up nicely at the box office this weekend with its IMAX release, earning $1.5 million (a $7,323 per-screen-average) in its weekend run, according to Forbes. Forbes notes that this is “on par with the IMAX-only releases of Raiders of the Lost Ark ($1.6m on 267 screens) and Top Gun 3D ($1.9m in 300 screens).” Nice!

Next up, at last night’s Art Directors Guild Awards, Game of Thrones added another trophy to its shelf. The show picked up a win in the category for One-Hour Period or Fantasy Single-Camera Television Series. The award is given for the episodes “The Laws of Gods and Men,” and “The Mountain and the Viper”, and its Production Designer, Deborah Riley. Congratulations!

A Murder of Crows: What if season five sucks?

What happens when you strike up a conversation that is so potentially fraught with charged emotion and several layers’ worth of analysis? You need two websites to help each other wade through the minefield and reach a (more or less) coherent answer to the question at hand.

Thus, please welcome the good folks of Tower of the Hand, one of the premier fansites of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, who graciously accepted our invitation to drink, debate, and bar-fight over the singular importance of the rapidly-approaching season five. The first half of our discussion follows below; the second half is featured over at TOTH (so be sure to head on over there once you’re done mopping up the blood here!).

By our powers combined…
