At this late stage in the game (har), we’ve come to expect the best from the box sets of each season of Game of Thrones. Season 4 doesn’t disappoint in this regard. I won’t say my expectations were exceeded – because I knew exactly what to expect – but they were certainly met. The more attentive of us will already have seen the majority of the bonus features via leaks on YouTube, but it was still nice to watch them on a big screen in crisp Blu-ray quality.

The Toy Fair is running this weekend, and lots of great new Game of Thrones merchandise is making its debut at the event.

New Blu-Ray/DVD Video Extra: Game of Thrones “Fallen Roundtable”
The Blu-Ray/DVD Season 4 extras keep rolling out. This one is a roundtable discussion with several of the characters we have loved and lost recently on Game of Thrones. Richard Dormer on whether we’ll ever see Beric Dondarrion again, and Alfie Allen talks season 5
The long absent Brotherhood Without Banners and their resurrected leader Beric Dondarrion are the subject of much discussion among Game of Thrones fans, as the band of rebels has a more significant role to play in the novels than they have so far in the show. The Brotherhood made a splash in season 3 with a fiery duel between Beric and the Hound, but we haven’t seen anything from them since, leaving fans to wonder if the Brotherhood Without Banners storyline has been dropped entirely.
While promoting the new crime thriller Fortitude in Esquire, Richard Dormer addressed the question of whether we would ever see Beric Dondarrion again on Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones Blu-ray extra video: Creating the mammoths and giants
The latest addition to the Game of Thrones season 4 video extras to come out features a rather large topic: the creation of the mammoths and giants in “The Watchers on the Wall.”
Released via USA Today, the video includes Neil Marshall, D.B.Weiss, Mark Stanley, and more weighing in on what it took to make the stunning special effects in season 4’s epic battle episode come to life.
The Game of Thrones fourth season Blu-ray/DVD comes out February 17th. Check out the video below the cut!
Nathalie Emmanuel, Sophie Turner, and Kit Harington interviewed
Several interviews with the cast are hitting the internet these days to promote the imminent release of the Season Four boxsets (scheduled for February 17th). We have rounded up three of them here, namely with Nathalie, Sophie, and Kit, but more can be expected.
The Telegraph wrote a piece centered on the question of race in Game of Thrones featuring quotes from Natalie Emmanuel, who plays Missandei on the show. She talks about the storyline she is closely involved with:
I understand people’s feelings on the issue, but, at the same time I think the show is really good at creating characters of all races and colour that have power and education. It’s not just a stereotype of ‘white powerful person’ and ‘enslaved non-white person’: I think it’s a bit more complicated than that.
Daenerys as a character, she’s been sold like a slave, for the advancement of men, to gain power – so it’s a different type of slavery, but it still counts. Regardless of how you feel about the fact that you’ve got this white woman saving all these slaves, she’s coming from a place where she understands and almost feels that she’s been in a similar place. They [the programme-makers] just show a girl who has seen something she finds wrong, and is doing something about it. To bring race into it – obviously it’s relevant, but it’s not fundamentally what it’s about.

Telltale’s Game of Thrones Episode 2: The Lost Lords – A Review
I played the premiere episode of Telltale’s venture into Game of Thrones on the PS3 when it released back in December. Since then I have procured a PS4, and before playing through the new episode, I made sure to revisit “Iron from Ice” on the newer console. It proved a much more pleasant experience performance-wise, and provided the added benefit of freshening all plot points in my mind before heading into “The Lost Lords”.
First up, some general thoughts on Telltale. I suppose I would call myself a fan of their games, having played through both seasons of The Walking Dead, Back to the Future, The Wolf Among Us, and the premiere episode of Tales from the Borderlands. While not as vehemently opposed as many to Telltale’s decisions/directions of late, I do firmly echo the growing consensus that the studio’s games are drifting more and more towards visual novel fare rather than the interactive (imagine that) point-and-click adventures of the past.
