  1. Thanks for posting this, Sue!

By the way, I think the youtube video was truncated (it was exactly 2 hours long, but I thought the stream lasted a little over 3 hours?).

  2. Congrats to the winners! I haven’t had the chance to watch, but wow the majority of the winning entries in those categories won by a MILE! So happy about Pilou. All very deserving wins. 👍👍👍

  3. Way too many wins for Olenna. But I guess she deserved a grand send off. She was most certainly a scene stealer and set an incredible tone from her very first appearance…

  4. Thank you for all the work to the people that bring us “Watchers on the Wall”! It is a great and very entertaining forum for all of us who love “Game of Thrones’ whether we be fanatics or fans!

  5. I tried to watch but it got a little too choppy. Maybe next year, in honor of it being next year, you might want to consider a full on webcast.

Loved the choices, loved the entire nomination process. You all seemed to be having so much fun with this!!!! and its infectious. thank you.

  6. Olenna Tyrell really dominated this year. She won in 4 categories. I don’t remember anyone doing that in the past.

But the biggest winner is Emilia Clarke. She had 7% last year and now 42%. Her strongest season yet for sure.

What is shocking to me is that Peter Dinklage never won. I really think he is the most underrated actor in this fandom. Maybe not with GA, but in GoT fandom for sure.

Maybe the reason is that Peter Dinklage was always recognized when it comes to awards, so fans don’t want him to win even here.

  7. 11/17 awards that I had picked so happy enough with that. Can’t say I really understand all the votes for Olenna Tyrell though? Her last scene was great but wouldn’t have considered it enough to dominate all relevant awards at all!

  8. Best leading actor/actress? Really? I suspect a lot of people voted for the actor they find most attractive.

  9. Aegon the Icedragon,

I was actually thinking the same. too much lol.
Best death scene and dramatic scene? come on ahah
I couldn’t vote this year I was away on vacation, only managed to vote for the best episode.
    Awesome to read 🙂

  10. Also, I am so happy Emilia won this year… she was amaaaaaazing this season. She always is, but this year was fantastic for her!
Her reaction to Viserion being shot down is something I will never forget.

  11. Thanks to everyone at WoTW for hosting these awards and Greatjohn for tallying all the results. I had lots of fun and really enjoyed them.

  12. Grandmaester Flash:
Best leading actor/actress?Really?I suspect a lot of people voted for the actor they find most attractive.

I was shocked I saw that almost 50% voted for them. How much I like the characters, the acting of those 2 has been very monotonous for me at least Emilia, They’re not bad but you can’t compare them to Lena and Nikolai or Peter. But at the other hand they had the most screentime, they put much much work in this season. But for me Emilia is a very mediocre actress, I just finished season 1 to 3, and some scenes are horrible to watch “I burn you first”, “where are my dragons”. “dracarys” at the end of 3×04 was also very strangely spoken. I liked her scene a lot when she send Jorah away, for me the best acting scene of her in GoT.

I liked that Dianna Riggs won a lot, even if I didn’t vote for those outcomes, she deserve it, brilliant actress.

Best episode: I should have know. I voted for episode 7, but still episode 4 was brilliant. I think at the end both Dany fans and Jaime fans were holding their breathes.

The rest: perfect winners (even when most of my choices lost).

And now our watch begins (till 2019)

  13. mau,

I would have voted for Peter Dinklage in season 1, 2, 3 en 4. But after that, his character became less interesting. It has nothing to do with the actor.

For Kit Harington his character was it just the opposite. I started loving Jon Snow since episode 1 of season 4. The previous seasons he was the one who was less interesting.

Emilia Clarke had her best seasons in season 1 and season 7.

And Nikolaj his best season was season 3.

Lena Headey as Cersei has always been good, but she did not have many scenes this season.

This is the first season I liked Sansa, she has definitely grown a lot. And the first season I didn’t like Arya, but I loved her all the previous seasons.

Who wins has more to do with the writing than with the acting, because almost all of them are really good actors.

  14. 6 out of 17 – this could have gone better for my favorites. Well, I guess better luck next year (or the year after next year).
Are you guys planning on overall show awards after season 8?

  15. Grandmaester Flash,

    kevin1989,
Perhaps a lot of people don’t see their acting the way you do. For instance, I thought Emilia did great in S7. I don’t see her performance as monotone as there’s a difference with her being emotionless and ‘proper’ in a royal capacity in comparison to the “behind-the-throne” scenes. Nothing against Lena but her season was close to one-note outside of the one dungeon scene as she mostly just gave that not-so-attractive smug face and bitched. For most of six seasons Sophie was the cue card reading bad one for me. I admitted that I thought she did great this season though. It was rather limited and actually a pretty simple role that didn’t require a lot of range, but she did it well and did not deliver her lines awkwardly like in the past. Maisie didn’t have a chance in my mind because of the limited role as well, but also due the story essentially turning her into a ‘robot’ and tool to complete the Sansa-Littlefinger arc.

  16. Glóin the Dark: The polls were Rigged!

    “I want my gold!”

    – It says clearly right there on that note you’ll be rewarded in full when the war in Season 8 is over.

“Piss on that! You’re nothing but thieves!”

    – We’re outlaws. Outlaws steal.

    #RoryWasRobbed

  17. The results came out pretty much as I expected. No surprises there…

It was pretty much on the cards that the ‘Loot Train Battle’ and Dany’s ‘White Coat’ would come top in those categories. As was “When the snows fall and the white wind blows… etc” and Olenna’s “Tell Cersei I want her to know it was me!’ for the best quote and speech.

No doubt whatsoever that the Hound and Tormund’s chat won the ‘Funniest Scene’. It was classic and I still roll up laughing when I re-watch that episode –

    T: Dick? – H: Cock! – T: Ah, I like it – H: I bet you do Lol 😀

  18. I’m glad to see that the fan-love for Petyr Baelish seems to be over. Along with Baelish himself. Har!

mau: What is shocking to me is that Peter Dinklage never won.

Well, his last few seasons haven’t been much for him to work with. Season 7, he’s basically become a whiny, ineffectual quisling and before that, all his “great ideas” turned to crap on the battlefield. Not Dinklage’s fault, but it doesn’t help one’s view of his character.

  19. Ten Bears: It says clearly right there on that note you’ll be rewarded in full when the war in Season 8 is over.

Heh! The promissory note that the Lightning Lord gave the Hound was mentioned in the books a few times. Wonder if it’ll re-surface? (I know; not a fit topic here, but still…) Did I just say “delete me”?!

  20. Clob,

True, but if you look for instance at Emilia, she never in another good movie or show except GoT. Every movie she’s in is a bad action movie. She even got recast for the musical she was in (Breakfast at Tifany’s if I remember correctly), because she lacked acting skills. I’m not saying I’m right, everybody has a different opinion, but if you look at how people in the movie-buisness react to her, and only give her one-dimensional stories to act in, you clearly see how they look at her. Even GRRM stated multiple times that he wouldn’t have cast her because she doesn’t portrait his Dany. So time will tell, if she ever get another interesting character to portrait.

As for Kit, I heard he is in a very interesting show on the bbc (can’t remember the name, something around 1900) where he’s amazing.

    mau:
    zandru,

He never won. Since S1. Never.

Don’t understand it either. Even in season 6 and 7 where his story isn’t that interesting I found him one of the best when it comes to acting. And look at season 4 and 2, he was the MVP of those seasons.

  21. Wow. Every single one of those results was too predictable. Everything I thought would win each category did. That wasn’t even true for S6.

Not necessarily what I wanted to win, mind you, but what I expected the majority of this site’s user base to vote for.

  22. kevin1989,
I believe she was rather fun and enchanting in Me Before You and did receive some critical praise for the role despite the depressing movie and the sensitive subject. I don’t know how anyone else does but I don’t know what roles she’s been offered or attempted to get. She hasn’t done many during GoT so we’ll see what she goes for when it’s over. Hopefully it’s projects unlike Terminator, that in my opinion was going to be ‘rejected’ regardless of who was in it. That franchise is spent. I also don’t believe that kind of role is her strong suit. I’d think she’d be best for rom-coms or straight comedies when she can let her real personality shine. Still, I don’t think she’s done as poorly as some do that will hash on her no matter what.

  23. kevin1989,

As for Kit, I heard he is in a very interesting show on the bbc (can’t remember the name, something around 1900) where he’s amazing.

Kit was in Gunpowder, which re-enacted the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and his ancestor’s, Robert Catesby, role in it.

If you’re going to make statements such as the ones you’re making, you should probably provide sources. In a recent Q&A held in St. Petersburg, George seemingly said the opposite of what you claim.

He was asked to comment about the differences between the book and show characters, particularly Daenerys. GRRM ignored all the other characters and talked only about Daenerys – he said that the show one is older because there are laws in USA that prevent minors from having sex scenes so the decision was made to age Daenerys. Otherwise, book Daenerys and show Daenerys “are very similar” and “Emilia Clarke did a fantastic job”.

Now it’s true that Tazmin Merchant was originally cast to play Daenerys but as far as I’m aware, Emilia wasn’t in the picture at the time. She auditioned once Merchant dropped out. And everything I’ve seen George say about Emilia has been positive. For example, when she was cast

I haven’t had the chance to meet Emilia yet, but I’ve seen her auditions. She gave some kickass readings, winning out over some amazing competition from all around the world. She should make a great Dany.

  25. Just watched the video… All 3 hours of it. Looks like you guys had a great time doing it 🙂

A pity there were a few technical issues though? Perhaps its the crappy bandwidth (only 1Mbs) I get on this island, but for me the most consistent member of the team both in video sound sync and audio quality was Matt. Petra – although her video was fine she was low in audio compared to everyone else. Samantha – her audio was fine, but her video was dark and with a strong shadow? For a while, it looked like she was wearing a nun’s habit like Septa Unella 🙂

Anyhow, it was a good to see and hear you guys discussing the WotW awards… A most enjoyable 3 hours of viewing.

  26. mau,

Ah I see what you’re referring to. I thought you were saying that his opinions on acting were wrong, but you were talking about who actually won the WOTW awards. NM. My bad.

  27. Carole H,

Hi Carole, you’ll be pleased to know I finally managed to watch ‘Gunpowder’ which was uploaded to some video streaming website. Most enjoyable. It must have been surreal for Kit to have played the part of his ancestor Robert Catesby.

Must be great to be in family that can trace its ancestry back hundreds of years? Especially if they are known historical characters albeit famous (or infamous ones like Robert Catesby).

You probably know that Queen Elizabeth II is not the rightful monarch to sit on the English throne? Her bloodline doesn’t go back directly to William the Conqueror. All due to skulduggery back in the 15th century during the reign of House Plantagenet… Yeah, the War of the Roses era like as what GRRM based most of his ASOIAF novels on!

Saw a documentary a few years ago (think its on Youtube) presented by Tony Robinson who traced the true heir to the English throne to a sheep farmer in Australia! This guy (who had Plantagenet in surname) knew this, but wasn’t interested in returning to the UK to claim his right to be the king. Said he would prefer Australia be a republic and not be part of the British Commonweath 😉

Probably a bit like Jon Snow when he discovers his real name is Aegon Targaryen and is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne 🙂

  28. zandru: Heh! The promissory note that the Lightning Lord gave the Hound was mentioned in the books a few times. Wonder if it’ll re-surface? (I know; not a fit topic here, but still…)Did I just say “delete me”?!

I was probably still peeved about the recent false accusations about Sandor.

He didn’t “kidnap” Arya for ransom. The BwoB did that:

    From S3e5, Arya & Thoros:

Arya: “What are you going to do with me?”
Thoros: “At first light we’ll ride for Riverrun. Your brother’s there now. He’ll make a contribution to our cause and you can go home.”
Arya: “I’m a hostage and you’re selling me.”
Thoros: “Don’t think of it that way.”
Arya: “But it is that way.”
    Thoros: “It is…And it isn’t.
    Arya: “More is than isn’t.”
Thoros: “Beric admired your father a great deal, you know. He wanted to refuse your ransom altogether.”
    Arya: “So why don’t you?”
    Thoros: “We need the gold.”

And after kidnapping Sandor to face bogus charges for murders Gregor committed*, the Brotherhood refused to give it back even after he was found not guilty of the impromptu accusation by Arya that he murdered Mycah.

Undoubtedly, Sandor would not have had to try to return Arya to her family with the expectation of compensation, if the BwoB hadn’t falsely arrested him and stolen all his money in the first place.

    * From S3e4:

Sandor: “I wasn’t at the Mummer’s Ford. Dump your dead children at some other door.”
Thoros: “House Clegane was built upon dead children. I saw them lay Prince Aegon and Princess Rhaenys before the Iron Throne.”
Sandor: “Do you take me for my brother? Is being born Clegane a crime?”

This has been a Public Service Announcement from the SCADL (Sandor Clegane Anti-Defamation League)

  29. Ten Bears,

I haven’t watched that yet, though I have heard that she can sing. I do remember listening to a short clip of her singing in Breakfast at Tiffany’s in which she seems to have a lovely voice.
And as Clob stated upthread, I thought Emilia was great in Me Before You. I’d like to see her in similar roles, however I am looking forward to seeing what her role will be in the upcoming Han Solo spinoff movie

  30. Contest winners, please check your emails (if you haven’t already) so we can get those prizes out to you all!

  31. Thanks for a really entertaining evening. It was really great to put faces to the people involved in WotW. There were so many tough choices it was a marvel of the awesomeness of this show and the people who make it happen.

  32. Jay Targ,

True, maybe I’m a little bit overreacting, and as I stated some scenes I though she was perfect, for instance I liked her in “beyond the wall”, when Vyserion fell and afterwards on the boat. But for me you can’t compare her with for instance Lena or some other in the show that are better at acting than her, for instance Emilia have some small mistakes in the past (not this season but as I stated the scene in season 2 and 3 mainly). But Lena hasn’t had one single acting mistake in the show. And Lena have more experience, for instance she can act with her eyes.

So sorry for the big negativity, wasn’t 100% directed at Emilia, more that I think some actors are underappreciated in the fandom.

And to be a little more positive, I always liked Emilia in interviews. She’s an amazing person.

  33. Lena and Nikolaj both robbed in the best actor/actress categories. Jon and Dany are just predictably generic and wooden fantasy heroes at this point for me and their actors don’t hold a candle to the Lannister ones. Good to see Davos and Queen of Thorns winning a few though

  34. kevin1989,

Emilia is cleary the weakest actor on got, she shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as Lena Headey. For someone who’s just lost their “child” she barely reacted. She’s better with Iain Glenn but she’s never been award worthy. This is more a popularity contest not so much a “best actress” contest. Same goes for Kit, s7 wasn’t exactly his strongest season, nor has Kit ever been tbh. He’s better than Emilia in general but that isn’t exactly saying much. NCW definitely was the best actor this season, Dinklage is good to but he’s just been reduced to a sidekick. His scene with Headey was good though, they really do well together.

  35. For those who recall (or don’t), combining our wonderful site with that other thing from way back when, yes, it’s a 0-for-7 shutout for Dinklage:

    S1: Bean
    2: Allen
    3: Coster-Waldau
    4: McCann
    5: Dillane
    6: Harington
    7: Harington

  36. kevin1989:

A little over reacting? You made up GRRM staimements about his opinion on Emilia’s Dany, that not over reacting a little bit, you invented something to suit your narrative on her acting and then with saying you like her as a person you think everythin is fine, that not cool, you can go inventing things just because you don’t like her as an actress or because in your opinion Lena doesn’t receive enogh love from the fandom (like if was Emilia problem, that’s on the fandom not on her)
