As we reported on this past Monday, the above-pictured key Game of Thrones players—showrunners Benioff and Weiss, and starring dragon Drogon— made an amusing little cameo in Westworld’s latest episode. Then this corner of the internet kind of exploded with reactions ranging from the intended laughter to befuddlement or even anger.
Thankfully, A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin is here to bring some much-needed perspective to this whole thing…

Though it was no secret that Game of Thrones‘ showrunners, David Benioff and D.B Weiss would appear briefly in season 3 of Westworld, their cameo turned out to have a lot more bite than fans were expecting *laughs punnily*

Con of Thrones, the premier convention for fans of Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire, and the epic worlds of fantasy author George R. R. Martin, will take place July 17-19, 2020, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Wildefell Wolves will bring four of their highly trained wolfdog ambassadors to the con and, joining for the first time, their trained crow, Pan. The animals will participate in photograph experiences with attendees throughout the weekend. Photograph experiences are on sale now.
I suppose you can find a silver lining in everything, and in the case of COVID-19 shutting down large swaths of the world, it’s that A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin is apparently spending a lot of time in Westeros — good news for those of us waiting for The Winds of Winter, perhaps?

We have sad news for the Game of Thrones fandom and film fans around the world today. Legendary actor Max von Sydow passed away yesterday at the age of 90, according to his family.
He made a lasting impression on GoT fans in 2016 with his performance as the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran’s mystical mentor beyond the Wall in season 6. The actor earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role.
I’m looking forward to House of the Dragon. The turbulent, fascinating history of the Targaryen family is sure to make for excellent drama. However, there’s one thing I want most from the show: justice for Helaena Targaryen, a fairly minor character in the Dance of the Dragons who I find to be emblematic of some of A Song of Ice and Fire‘s most problematic tropes.
For a decade, Game of Thrones had its headquarters at Titanic Studios, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Most of what wasn’t filmed on location was shot in there, and it was the nexus of the entire production. Even the now cancelled Long Night-set prequel pilot was shot there. For more than ten years, Titanic Studios has meant Game of Thrones.
No longer.
“This is going to be the whitest show on television”. That was the gist of many reactions I saw across the web when HBO confirmed that the “Age of Heroes” prequel wasn’t getting picked up, moving forward instead with a series based on George R.R. Martin’s FIRE & BLOOD.
And it’s not an unwarranted reaction. As we fans know, Game of Thrones had a number of controversies during its 8-season run. Some I feel were quite overblown (such as the “Starbucks cup” or Jon not petting Ghost after the Battle of Winterfell), but other grievances people had with the show were understandable, and one of those was the lack of representation when it comes to people of color.
It’s been a rumor before the final season of Game of Thrones even began filming: “they’ll shoot alternate finale scenes so the real ending doesn’t leak!” There wasn’t much reason to believe this, but showrunner David Benioff added fuel to the flames by implying as much, and a few cast members said it outright–though, as it turns out, they were either misdirecting the press for fun or misinformed themselves. Whatever their reasons, if there were still any doubts, Maisie Williams is here to put them to rest.
