HBO and Major League Baseball Team Up Again For Game of Thrones Themed Events

gotarcherypic

HBO and Major League Baseball have recently announced that they will be collaborating once more to bring specially customized Game of Thrones events, giveaways, ticket specials and experiences to participating MLB ballparks this summer, proving yet again that high fantasy and sports can find a common audience.

Although details for what sort of unique opportunities and memorabilia will be offered won’t be announced until closer to summer, last year’s collaboration included MLB player and mascot bobbleheads, video board games, special food and drinks at concession stands, co-branded t-shirts and caps, Games of Thrones costume contests, Snapchat filters, and the Iron Throne itself.

You’ll be able to purchase single-game tickets for the entire slate of announced Game of Thrones dates at MLB‘s website. If you’re fortunate enough to attend any of these games, be sure to tag your social media posts with the hashtag, #GoTMLB.

  1. My hometown team got slaughtered at a Red Wedding orchestrated by Walder Jeter. 👿

    #CurseOfTheBambino2.0

  2. Jaehaerys,

Sorry. I should’ve been more specific and mentioned House Tully, because Walder Jeter gutted the Fish.

I alluded to the Curse of the Bambino Redux because Jeter gave away to the Yankees, for peanuts, this generation’s Babe Ruth (reigning Major League Home Run King and NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton.)

To be cont. (Walder Jeter is just the latest c*nt to curse this team. I can’t neglect to mention the wrath of R”hllor, the Drowned God, and the Many-Faced God….)

  3. Last year’s participation coincided with the release of Season 7. Since Season 8 obviously won’t be coming out this summer, one wonders what GOT has to promote. The dates for the games should correspond to the release of the DVD/BluRay.

  4. Ten Bears,

Ohh you’re a Miami guy (I didn’t see the 2.0). Yup the Yankees stole some sluggers this offseason… as a Boston fan, I feel your pain.

  5. Jaehaerys,

    • R’hllor’s four fire sales incinerated the team, including two World Series championship teams in 1997 and 2003. Sandor was right. “All lords are c*nts. I don’t see why the Lord of Light should be any different.”

    • Then, the Many-Faced God tried to turn Stanton into a Faceless Man with a fastball that shattered his teeth and facial bones.

    • Most tragic of all, the Drowned God took the life of the team’s young superstar pitcher in a boating accident.

    • Treasonweasels Walder Jeter and Bruce “Roose” Sherman bought the team, and effectively traded a lineup of Sandor Clegane, Arthur Dayne, Syrio Forel, Jon Snow, Arya Stark, and Brienne of Tarth for…
… Ser Dontos Hollard, Robyn Arryn, Janos Slynt, Lommy Greenhands, Lancel Lannister, Fat Walda, and a boy whore with a sword to be named later.

I’m sure the stadium organist will play “The Rains of Castamere,”

Are they sure they want to do that this year? The TV cameras will show seated behind home plate someone’s ten year-old niece in costume as Arya Stark with Needle, next to her uncle dressed as Polliver wearing a Derek Jeter Yankees jersey.

“Fine little blade. Maybe I’ll pick my teeth with it.”

  7. This doesn’t fit with any topic so I’ll just stash it here…

Amazon is apparently throwing an even bigger shitload of money in to attempt to attain the kind of success GoT has achieved. Good luck with that. How many shows have claimed to be the next GoT or better than and end up being garbage or struggling? Maybe one of them will eventually figure out it’s more than just money that has made GoT special.

Amazon is in talks to adapt the popular Chinese book series The Three-Body Problem into a three-season show. How much will that cost? A smooth $1 billion.

  8. Clob,

It is a very hard thing to achieve, to be better (or even close to as good) as GoT. Lots will try, lots will fail. Although Amazon trying really hard is a good sign, it will ultimately fall on the type of show they are creating.

That being said, there is one show out right now that I see possibly reaching close to the same popularity as GoT. It might take a couple of seasons to get the word spread that the show is crazy good to get the casual viewers to watch it, but I think Westworld has the ability to grow almost as big as GoT in terms of watchers and popularity. That is the only show where I get the sense that something truly epic is on the horizon.

  9. Jaehaerys,

As long as we’re veering off topic, I’m interested in recommendations of other work by GoT actors. I do not see many British-Irish films and TV shows, yet I’ve come to realize that the GoT cast members have impressive stage and screen resumes – in the UK and elsewhere overseas. It’s not often that I’ll see British or Irish movies available on (my) cable.

For instance, I heard people rave about Australian (?) Essie Davis (Lady Crane) in “The Babadook.” (I recorded it; still haven’t seen it,)

So, I’m inviting recommendations of can’t miss, two thumbs way up movies featuring GoT acting talent. (Mark Addy/King Robert was good in “The Full Monty.” I assume everyone’s seen that…)

I would suggest some of the following:

Liam Cunningham – The wind that shakes the barley and Hunger

Kit Harington – Testament of Youth

    Jim Broadbent – Iris

Pilou Asbaek – A War (in Danish, but with English subtitles)

    Stephen Dillane – The Hours

    Richard Madden – A Promise

I would also recommend Chatroom, starring Hannah Murray and featuring Jacob Anderson, Michelle Fairley and Richard Madden.

Also, TV rather than film, but Hollow Crown features a number of GoT actors, including Anton Lesser, Owen Teale, Harry Lloyd and Robert Pugh. And, if you can manage to get it, Broken, a UK TV series starring Sean Bean and featuring Mark Stanley, is amazing.

Finally, if in doubt, Imdb is your friend!

  11. Alba Stark,

Thank you! I will cut and paste your recommendations and be on the lookout for them. As for IMDb, yes, I understand I can look up actors’ other projects, What I can’t tell is whether a particular movie or show is worth watching, even if one of my GoT favorites is in it.
