Game of Thrones season 7 casting has begun!

ravenWe’re headed into the home stretch of Game of Thrones, season 6, with only two episodes left! It seems like just yesterday that we were anxiously awaiting the new season and digging up casting details, and here we are, looking ahead now at season 7.

Our sources have confirmed for us that casting for season 7 is well underway. We’ve managed to get our hands on two casting notices. We’re going to tuck the details below the cut to avoid spoiling anyone!

According to our sources, the show is currently casting two young Northern characters. Their names are unknown, with Game of Thrones being just as careful on their notices as they were last year.

The first is a 16-year-old Northern girl. They’re looking for an actress with a northern accent to take part in what’s being called “a high-stakes scene with leading cast members.” Her physical description isn’t specified, except for her needing to be white.

The second role is for a 10-year-old Northern boy. He appears to be a part of the same “high-stakes” scene as the teenage girl.

(Info added 6/18: ) These particular roles will be filming in September and October. We’ve also heard there are other child roles being cast at the moment, but we haven’t received any more details on them.

So, what do we make of this? The casting notices are fairly vague and leave a lot of room for theorizing. We’re past the books and beyond the Wall, so to speak, into the Land of Always Speculation.

When we see a mention of young Northern characters, it’s hard not to jump right to “more flashbacks!” It’s certainly possible, since the casting people aren’t as persnickety about ages as hardcore fans and book readers are. Lyanna Stark is around 16 when she dies, but people are hoping to see her already in season 6, based on casting spoilers and speculation. (We’ve seen her younger-teen incarnation in Cordelia Hill, but not the older-teen version who gets kidnapped/runs away.) And her younger brother Benjen’s already been cast and isn’t six years younger than her, anyway. So if not her, then who?

They could simply be a pair of Northern siblings or cohorts in the current timeline, playing a role we can’t predict.

Thoughts, speculation? Let the fun begin!

  1. The tourney at Harenhall.

It’s just that… if we do see Lyanna in EP10, as we suspect, why would they give a casting call….

Other then this speculation….It is far to vague, to get a better idea.

  2. So what are the chances lady stoned heart makes an appearance this season? I have a $20 bet with a friend that she wont be.

  3. The last two living Wildlings from the Gift warning Jon that the WW breached the Wall.
Okay, taking the tinfoil hat off now.

  4. Lyanna Stark is around 16 when she dies, but people are hoping to see her already in season 6, based on casting spoilers and speculation. (We’ve seen her younger-teen incarnation in Cordelia Hill, but not the older-teen version who gets kidnapped/runs away.)

When you consider how much the younger Ned aged between the flashbacks (going from a 13-year-old actor to a 23-year-old actor), show!Lyanna would be played by somebody noticeably older than 16 when she died.

  5. Didn’t Lord Glover mention his kids? I know in the books they were younger but maybe…I don’t know. If Sansa and Jon are successful maybe there’s some fallout with that.

  6. AceFreezy,

I have to confess that I wish fans would stop banging on about LSH. Move on please people ? It has become really tedious and boring.

  7. My mind immediately jumps to the Tourney of Harrenhal, but there has to be a greater narrative purpose there (I would think they would show that before the Tower of Joy’s conclusion, but I could be wrong).

  8. I don’t see how these could be for any kind of flashback as the flashbacks don’ tend to use leading cast members.

Can only think of some kind of hostage situation, so are there any Northern Lords with children held by Lannister-friendly forces is the first question that springs to mind!

  9. OMG let the speculation begin *-*
I immediately thought ‘flashbacks’ when I saw this. But since we already have our

young stunner aka Lyanna Stark in this season

who could this 16 year old girl be? Maybe she is no one really important?

  10. IT BEGINS! :O

Sounds like it isn’t a flashback to me, given that they have screen time with leading cast.

  11. Interesting casting choice. Could very well be a flashback indeed. But I reckon it will be when Winterfell is back to normality and Winterfell is restored with the Starks and there’s some meeting in Winterfell about what to do with White Walkers.

Just a stab at a vague description.

  12. Halfman,

    They never will sadly…

They dug themselves to deep into this hole. Everything that points there is no LSH, they will read as proof she will appear.

Thankfully for the sane ones, the ”hype” is dead

  13. So they have finished writing the episodes… Not surprising considering the number of episodes is now less ..
Which makes me wonder will Bryan cogman and Dave hill got a chance to pen an episode next season ..I don’t think so

The question for this year casting should be
Will we ever get Rhaegar on screen??

  14. There is no need for another Lyanna flshback. Her flashback role ends on Season 6, Episode 10.

This is simply something we don’t get as we are off the map. “Here be Dragons“.

  15. Akash Singh,

Heh, I think they would show it after TOJ!

We get too see baby Jon this season, hopefully, and then next season we might get more Lyanna.

Might not even be Harenhall, just flashbacks with her.

  16. Alys Karstark??? Who become new heir to House Karstark and pledges again to starks. Young boy of 10 could be son of Small Jon Umber and would do the same.

  17. Connor,

    My guess is EP10.

”Winds of Winter”, I mean come on, it won’t be a owl ”dramatically” showing Winter came. Just doesn’t work on TV.
    A owl in the books.

The Wall falling in the show.

  18. I agree there is no need to see lyanna once we have seen her inside TOJ..
Especially there is no need for tourney at harrenhall when it was told to us through LF ..

  19. Shishir,

Alys Karstark is my bet too. Might be a bit creepy to marry her to Tormund, but I certainly like the idea of him getting Karhold.

  20. If the Wall goes down, it should result in some kind of evacuation of the North. Some kind of high-stakes scenes may evolve in the result. Hence, my guess is that these two youngsters will represent a common folk (women and children) being saved by Jon and co.

  21. “16-year-old Northern girl. They’re looking for an actress with a northern accent to take part in what’s being called “a high-stakes scene with leading cast members.”

What about Alys Karstark? If I recall from books, her uncle tried taking Karhold from her and she shows up at the Wall and Jon marries her off to a Wildling to make a firmer alliance.

In show world could be her and maybe her brother show up on the run from Uncle Karstark (the one that sided with Ramsay) who escapes battle of bastards.

Edit: Ah I see others already mentioned Alys.

  22. I don’t think it’s Lyanna, but I could be wrong. My guess is that this is related to the Northern politics post-BOB (I’m assuming that Team Jon will be victorious). Because we know that not nearly all Northern houses have pledged to Starks yet, and it has been stressed that the whole North must be united when the Night King and his army of the dead come. Perhaps this could be the show’s version of Alys Karstark?

edit: Looks like Mawk ninja’d me 😀

  23. It could be they are going to be the new head of houses of Umber and Karstark after John kills Ramsey and takes care of his followers. Since we have already seen that a young person (Lady Mormont) could be the head of a house, I find it feasible that it could happen again

  24. Exciting! Sounds to me like two siblings from a Northern house in the present time. Would the Vale houses be considered northern? Could this tie in with Robin Arryn’s story? Or they could be the children of a Lord who perished during BotB.

  25. My first thought was maybe this:

If the current Lord Karstark dies in the upcoming battle or is executed as a traitor, maybe they bring in Alys Karstark (who I think was a girl of around 16) to follow her book storyline of wedding a Wildling to unite the North and Wildlings.
  26. I don’t particularly think it’s Lyanna but the possibility had to be addressed.

Though them filming with “lead cast members” doesn’t rule out flashbacks, it does make it less likely.

  27. my tinfoil theory

Isn’t Arya also around 16 in the series so maybe that 16 year old girl is arya stark disguised as Faceless Men. (could be anyone though)

But I have no clue who could be a 10 year northern boy

  28. Exciting news!!! I’ve been privately hoping we might start to get some casting notices appearing, so it is great they have started to! Obviously at this stage, we’re not going to get massive characters, but the ones we do get will be important. I’ve enjoyed the new Northern characters this season a lot, so hopefully these characters will be equally excellent next season.

  29. Mihnea:
    Halfman,

    They never will sadly…

They dug themselves to deep into this hole. Everything that points there is no LSH, they will read as proof she will appear.

Thankfully for the sane ones, the ”hype” is dead

I’m at a loss to understand it personally. She barely features in the books. What on earth is the big deal? I really don’t get it.

I do understand it would have been an interesting addition in the show but they didn’t go with it and the idea that it’s feasible now just seems laughable to me. They’d be resurrecting a skeleton lol.

  30. Mihnea,

You wait and see how many will doubt it is Jon and will say may be it is someone ..just like there was doubters that Jon may stay dead or that he will die again in the coming epsiode..

I am sure he will get that book out before the next season..and I want that because it feels like the show is stalling for the books to relase first in cases like RLj and others

  31. Descriptions aren’t specific enough to imply flashback characters of characters that already appeared in the show. These are new guys.

It’ll be impossible to guess at this point. But good to see the snowball rolling.

  32. First thought was they’re part of a commando mission to sneak out on the White Walkers, but that seems really far fetched…

  33. What if we are going to have a flash forward instead and those are description of children of one the current leads, Jon’s, Sansa’s, etc???

  34. dragonbringer,

Now if this happens: ”promise me Ned”, next shot we see Jon in WF. Not much room for doubt here

As I said, I wouldn’t hold my breath, for the books.

  35. Newbietothegame:
The last two living Wildlings from the Gift warning Jon that the WW breached the Wall.
Okay, taking the tinfoil hat off now.

Oooh, that’s a good guess. But I would hope they weren’t the last 2 Wildlings, that would make me sad.

  36. Mihnea,

    Lets wait and see ..

I never have hope for TDOS and dont think he is going to finish it in seven books…but the pace with show is going I need TWOW at least ..

  37. dragonbringer,

Don’t think the book will be out too long before season 7. It definitely is far from done at the moment, so it should take GRRM at least a couple of months (and that’s optimistic to the point of dellusion), and then with editing taking ~3 months, the show mught as well just wait to ship the books alongside season 7 to get the most monetary traction.

To be honest, I think Winds of Winter will be a mid 2017 release. Post season 7. And by then the show will have overtaken everything in the book.

  38. Mihnea,

I am with you on this one, it would be the great climatic event to the season. And I’ve thought this much of the season.

Although I’m beginning to have doubts. Given that on the show it appears that it is a rather short distance from CB to WF, I wonder if there has to be more time for the aftermath of the battle to unfold before the WW and wights come streaming over/through the Wall and to WF.

I know that the timelines don’t necessarily match up on the episodes but if there is to be a post-battle scene at WF in Episode 10 and the Wall falls, that might not be enough time. Otherwise, the survivors of the battle at WF will be fleeing south as quickly as possible. I wonder if there needs to be sometime for Beric, Thoros and Sandor to head North (and Arya possibly) and meet up with the Northern forces. In the books, it could take months to go from the Wall to the Neck, but on the show weeks. But I could easily be wrong on this.

  39. jentario,

Yeah iam thinking it will be like what happened with ADWD released after seaon 1 …
twow release after season 7 .

  40. jentario,

This is my guess too. Mid 2017. If everything goes great and no more problems appear. Doubt it though.

    I still remember.
    ”ADWD next year!!”
2007: ”Almost done, it should be out soon”
    2009: ”Making good progress”
    2012: ”Done”…….

  41. Shishir,

A version of this storyline would be my first guess, or something to do w the Manderleys & the betrothal of Wylla (?).

  42. Mihnea,

That’s what I thought too…but then what would be the point? Let’s say they confirm R+L by the finale….then the tourney would be to show Rhaegar and the events leading up to TOJ?

But how great would that be to see it…..

  43. Chuck,

Could be a lot of reasons.

Bran might want to see more out of curiousity, for once.
He might meet Jon again and want to show him this…etc.

  44. dragonbringer,

And if it is the same or different in the show and books, what does it matter. As both GWWM and D&D have said they are different stories with similar endings.

Sansa is in the Vale in the books and at least at the beginning of the TWOW from the Alayne chapter. There will be no meeting at CB in the beginning of TWOW. So what, they chose to have Sansa replace fArya in the storyline.

Asha (Yara) has taken Victorian’s role.

Ell aria is not the person she is in the show that she is in the books. That certain woman is in the books but not the show. These are some obvious differences and there are likely many more.

  45. I wonder if they could be somehow related to Howland Reed? I don’t think Jojen and Meera have younger siblings but who knows what the show will do. They’re going to have to get a living person who was there to verify Jon’s birthright. No one will trust a message from Jon’s treebrothercousin.

  46. The 16-year old nothern girl must be Alys Karstark, who will become the heir of House Karstark after the, big possible, death of Harald Karstark.

Maybe she pledges to House Stark.

The northern boy could be Gawen Glover, son of Robett Glover (the man who refuses to pledge on Episode 7).

  47. DireWolfHeart,

Yeah Wylla would be my second guess too. But I think this is Alys Karstark only. With both lord karstark and Smalljon Umber almost sure to be die – their heir has to come and these two houses are powerful houses of north and with impending white walker invasion – north needs to get united behind starks.

  48. Darkrobin,

Agree, detail/plot differences but not overal story ones.

A II still goes to Dany. The Dornish still fight the crown and join Dany

In the books I expect Aegon and once his dead they’ll switch to Dany.

Arya won’t become a FM and go back to Westeros.
I still think Jon and Sansa meeting will happen, just from reading the books and no show stuff. But I think it is entirely safe to say, the theories that her and LF will go south are dead. She will go North sooner or later.

Dany will get the Dothraki joining her.
The masters will loose, I have no doubt.

    ….etc.

By the end will have more ”spoilers”,

KL and Cersei’s fate for sure
  49. Also, just wanted to say that it’s amazing we’re getting off-season stuff while this season is still airing. Thanks to Sue and everyone else for their hard work!

  50. Makes me a bit depressed that in just two weeks we will have to wait 10 months again…but its also really cool to have so much time to speculate again, depending on what leaks from set we get this time and if HBO makes it even harder than last year for bystanders to photograph anything.

  51. Okay, after reading all the comments, I’ve changed my mind and agree that the girl may be Alys Karstark and the boy could be Smallerjon Umber (love that name, House Adder).
I just hope Jon doesn’t marry her off to Tormund – he belongs to Brienne, hmph!

  52. In short, I’m told it’s amazing and the most spectacular TV battle you’ve ever seen, even when it comes to one element that’s under-appreciated, but really expensive: lots of horses. Kit Harington demonstrates everything he’s learned as an action star and physical performer over the last five years. It’s must see and must see live. Also, the bastards battle isn’t the only action sequence in the episode. Stew on that.>

    From EW.

I guess this confirms Dany is in.
  53. jentario: To be honest, I think Winds of Winter will be a mid 2017 release. Post season 7. And by then the show will have overtaken everything in the book.

    That’s highly optimistic.

I’m not expecting it until 2018 at the very earliest myself.

  54. I know this is crazy but I’m so so excited to be totally in the dark and just speculate on filming. So much hype!!!

  55. Darkrobin,

I guess that the BwB and Sandor may come to the Battle of the Bastards picking Brienne and Pod on their way. We still have no hint about which two characters (and 4 extras) will be burned on the X-crosses. Meanwhile, Beric, Thoros etc. are heading north and may be intercepted by Ramsay’s forces. So, they may sacrifice themselves to save Sandor, Brienne and others, for instance. But of cause, we have no idea what is going to happen.

  56. GeekFurious,

my only argument against that is it does say will be in scene with leading cast. Young Ned, Young Benjen, don’t count as leading cast in my mind. Jon Sansa, Mel, Davos, Tormund. They are leading cast members.

  57. I just like this because it likely means we are getting new characters, in some form. Whereas all season there’s been this ominous cloud that they are killing every unnecessary character off and bringing back characters just to tie up loose ends, in order to condense it to the core cast so that they can burn through the plot and be done with the show ASAP. (not saying they aren’t still doing that, but it feels better knowing they’re introducing something new)

  58. At this point there’s not a lot of point for flashbacks of Lyanna, but also the show seems to have consciously aged up its characters. If Lyanna is running away with Rhaegar it’s not going to be a 16 year old, because they still look like children. I think if we see the Tourney Lyanna will be an adult. 20ish

  59. Patchface,

Lol, they better be, they were already writing back in February, they’re probably doing fewer episodes, and filming begins next month.

They had bloody well better be fookin’ done !

  60. If the North is taken by the Stark again, then a lot of the houses will have some explaining to do.

My first thought was Alys Karstark. If the Karstark and Umber heirs are killed after aligning with Ramsay, it will have some consequences on their houses.

My other thought was that it may perhaps Wylla Manderly. The boy could be an Umber heir.

  61. we have our Lyanna if we get more flashbacks next season so they would use same actress for a part as important as her (I foresee a TON of press once we see her in episode 10)

I like the idea of young girl being Alys Karstark…that was good little moment in the books, plus would feel like a natural follow up to the politics this season and
the boy could be her little brother (dont remember if she had one in the books) who the uncle might be trying to conveniently get rid of

  62. Guys OT but I saw this ‘Battle of the Bastards’ fan review on IMDb:

No spoilers…..After a long time I can say that with knowing what would happen I am shocked by this episode that’s what viewers love about Game of thrones It’s main theme is based on killing characters and when Jon snow (kit Harrington) was back I wasn’t happy but now I can say that it was worth it..everything in this episode was straight to the point and what you would expect from GOT I think aside from Hodor episode It was the best of the season 6..Some viewers would like it for its actions, scenes and everything but I m from those who like a good story it’s darkness and what it is really trying to say the lesson we can learn from it..I was sitting at the very edge of my seat during the last few minutes of this episode. It was explosive, mind-blowing, and having ramifications that would completely alter the Game of Thrones universe…The story boarding is once again epic. The episode was perfectly paced.. I definitely, look forward to next week’s episode in the hope that it will continue what’s been set off in ‘battle of bastards’ and build on it in a massive way!

Did this person actually watch the episode? How’s that possible?

  63. Alys Karstark could make sense. Maybe we are introduced to a son of Tormund, who Jon has marry Alys to help unite the North and Wildlings.

  64. It’s possible we might see flashbacks of Rhaegar and Lyanna, since I assume Bran will be curious to verify a couple of things after ToJ and confirm things for the viewer. But they could simply just reuse the older Lyanna actress and not have to put up a casting notice. Definitely keeping my eyes peeled for a Rhaegar casting (or they could just put Kit in a blonde wig…wouldn’t that be hilarious?).

It’s my dream for the show to incorporate the Alys Karstark arc into Jon’s story. It wouldn’t surprise me if D&D borrow some of the elements from his ADWD story to show how he is dealing with the lords and ladies of the North. Some of the things he does there are very reminiscent of what a lord or king would do and he needs to bring the North together before the WW invasion. As a viewer and Jon fan, I’d like to see it.

Maybe the boy is the new Lord Umber or Lord Glover’s son. I’d like that.

  65. I don’t even think it’s even anybody from the books we are more or less done with book characters.I really doubt it’s a flashback either

  66. This scares the hell out of me knowing the looonnngggg off season starts in 9 days 🙁

  67. Laura:
I wonder if they could be somehow related to Howland Reed? I don’t think Jojen and Meera have younger siblings but who knows what the show will do. They’re going to have to get a living person who was there to verify Jon’s birthright. No one will trust a message from Jon’s treebrothercousin.

I was going there, too… the Reeds may have info about key characters….. things that make ya go hmmmm.

  68. Hope to see all the past!! young Lyanna, Rhaeghar, Robert!! The mad king Aerys, etc. etc. the reason how the song of ice and fire began.. maybe for the last season but still it will be HYPE!!

  69. Alys Karstark and a new Umber make sense as it’s almost certain that Smalljon and Harald die on Sunday, but it’s a pretty peripheral story to include if they’re rushing home with only 14 episodes after this season. More likely this is past the point of any story we know of and into brand new territory. About all we covered in the books that I think they’ll definitely include that we haven’t seen yet is the beginning to Sam’s story in Oldtown.

The IMDB review sounds great if someone actually managed to see it in advance, but I’m trying to imagine what could possibly happen that would be an honest game changer with widespread ramifications for the rest of the story and I’m drawing a blank, unless he means something separate from the battle.

  70. Jack Bauer 24:
This scares the hell out of me knowing the looonnngggg off season starts in 9 days

But at least we have WotW. Can’t imagine off season without it. Brrr..I shudder at that thought.

  71. Jenny,

I need someone to photoshop this.

    Mihnea,

I’m now sure that in the books

Davos will fail to bring Rickon alive from Skagos, which causes Stannis to lose the Manderly support and be defeated by the Boltons (though it will be a closer battle than on the show, as the pink letter hints in the books). Robb’s will is going to come into play and some of the Northern houses will follow Jon.

The Vale army is definitely ending up in the North, but Sansa and Jon will do their recruiting separately. Not to mention Jon has more Wildlings and giants in the books, so it might be an easier victory. I still think Jon will end up KITN though.

  72. LL of Darkwater,

My first thought was a young Meera and Jojen but they wouldn’t have scenes with main cast – unless they’re bringing Sean Bean back to visit his buddy Howland and dish juicy secrets prior to the events of S1. 😛

    Alys Karstark makes sense though.

  73. Rhaenys Stark,

Now I’m nervous. Especially since that person thinks the “main theme” of the show is…well that.
But the rest of review sounded promising. Vague, but promising.

  74. Rhaenys Stark,

Eh, that is so vague and gives no details, any of us who’ve read the legit spoilers could have written that. Albeit with better grammar and punctuation. Never trust anything posted on IMDB.

  75. Flayed Potatoes,

Yeah, anyone who thinks Rickon will come from Skagos riding his direwolf and with a army of cannibals is fooling himself.

Agree with most of the other stuff.

  76. Halfman:
    AceFreezy,

I have to confess that I wish fans would stop banging on about LSH. Move on please people It has become really tedious and boring.

omfg. i support this 100%. it drives me nuts. especially because everyone who supports this doesn’t seem to realize there is no more purpose for her. its too late in the game. GRRM said she was cut from the show. it is so tedious. I pray, to the old gods and the new, that the season finale puts a end to this nonsense.

  77. Mihnea,

If KL is going to burn this season, they will keep the wall coming down for s7. I don’t think they squeeze that into a 5 minute segment. Too dramatic. The wall coming down, and the struggle before it (i.e. Bran trying to stop the Night King), could warrant an entire episode of its own. Or maybe 1/2 an episode. It’s The Wall!

  78. BunBunStark,

Yes I don’t particularly trust IMDb but why would anyone write a non-spoiler review about an episode he hasn’t watched? Anyway, it got me even more hyped than I already was, so even if it’s fake it doesn’t really matter.

  79. Mihnea,

And it would make a great spectacle in the best meaning of the word. It might be too much of a set piece with time and cost involved unless there was a great reveal coming from it.

  80. Regarding the casting:
Traveling companions and buddies for Arya in her Westeros quests?

  81. Rhaenys Stark,

IMDb is too easy for anyone to scribble in whatever crap they want. This ‘fan review’ reads like it’s well-informed but, what does it really tell you? Absolutely nothing.
Remember Public Enemy’s warning – Don’t believe the hype.
Believe what you see once the show airs.

  82. dragonbringer: I am sure he will get that book out before the next season..and I want that because it feels like the show is stalling for the books to relase first in cases like RLj and others

Getting the book out before next season is not in time to influence season 7. The scripts are close to finished now; they are casting. Soon it will be time to try to spy the filming. Season 7 show will be on its own as was season 6.

  83. So you don’t think they are holding out on the R+L=J as the cliffhanger? I do….. and it sucks

  84. Boston Snow,

I think Bran will reach the Wall. Whether the last shot of of the WWs and the wights arriving at the Wall with the remnants of the NW looking down or something else I don’t know But even if the Wall doesn’t come down this season, I would think it would soon in Season 7.

  85. I’ll be honest I’m not sure if this has been mentioned already but it could still be a flashback even though the scene is with leading cast members. Isn’t Bran a leading cast member? And so far he’s been “in” his own flashbacks so it’s possible. And it could still be Lyanna. Even if we get the Tower of joy conclusion this season they’re gonna need some time next season dedicated to explaining her significance to the audience.

  86. plop_plop,

If we see it, it won’t be much different then it was in the books. At most will see the baby. Then will go to a a shot of Jon.
Like in S5, when Aemon said about the Targaryans, Jon enters the room.

    How should they do it?
Lyanna:”promise me, Ned….that you will protect my son, who’s father is Rhaegar Targaryan who didn’t kidnaped me.”
Ned:”I will, I will say he is my bastard and call him Jon Snow.”

  87. Mihnea,

I think we’ll see Howland Reed or Bran confirm it in season 7. Aside from Jon and the viewers learning about his parentage, other folks need to know it as well, especially Dany.

  88. Chuck,

Yup, Jon will find out in S7.

They did took a extra second to name drop him in the TOJ scene. And we clearly saw him surviving.

I think there is a very good chance will see him next season.

  89. Houses Karstark, Bolton and Umber will more than likely be under new leadership possibly regencies. I would summarize that’s what these characters are for.

  90. Beer Island,

Yeah assuming Snow and Sansa win the battle, and Jon is named KITN, I wonder who will remain at Winterfell to rule in Jon’s place. Sansa? I can’t see that as there wouldn’t be much for her to do there? Jon is clearly going to be on the move whether to back to the wall or somewhere else to fight the walkers I don’t know.

  91. dragonbringer:

It just makes me think that they are giving GRRm another chance to reveal it first..

This season it almost seemed that GRRM was giving the show a chance to be uncontradicted by book. Now you say a hold back to let the book come forward. Whatever, the reveals keep getting held back.

  92. Newbietothegame: Okay, taking the tinfoil hat off now

no, no, Newbie, don’t take it off – in fact, dust it off, polish it up and pop it on again – the off-season is just about upon us and if that isn’t the time for tin-foil hat happenings, then no time is. Tell you what, mine is wearing thin in some places, but just a patch or two here and there, and I’ll be right there with you, with mine on, too.

That word: Patch, I’m laughing to myself because at a certain time of life, patches are mostly what holds you together. Patches, potions and pills, Oh My! Patches, potions and pills, Oh My. As you see, I’m in silly mode at the moment, have just rubbed a potion on my back to make it feel better.

Let’s see, young girl and her younger brother in a “high-stakes scene.” There aren’t higher stakes than saving your own life or that of someone you love. So, sounds like they are in a tense situation. Someone attacking them, or two young people in the way of oncoming soldiers, OR oncoming wights? And some of the cast members ride in to help? or order them to evacuate their village and the young girl gives them back-talk before she’s convinced? Tin-foil hat seems to be working.

  93. Chuck,

If that’s the case, Jon can remain in Winterfell and rule. He’d have to in order to stabilize the North. I don’t see why he’d go to the Wall and split up storylines again. A lot of characters are heading north, so they’ll probably head over to Winterfell first.

And no, I don’t think there’s time for the Wall to fall this season. If it does, I doubt Jon will be there so it falls on his head and kills him.

  94. Flayed Potatoes,

Lord Manderly has already got himself into quite the pickle at WF in the books … it may be too late for him to turn back at this point. It would be unlikely that Davos would return one way or another from his mission and be able to communicate with LM at WF before the Battle. Or maybe not. We will find out in another year or two.

  95. Interesting.
Filming should start in a matter of weeks, we also know some things about locations, only some things.
Mainly tho, has HBO ever confirmed how many episodes season 7,?
We only have the show runners estimate and one director for season 6 who was probably repeating them.

  96. What exactly is a high-stakes scene? Can someone give an example from the books, please?

It could be a flashback, though I can’t think of who the 10-yr old boy would be. If the girl is Lyanna (around Harrenhal tourney) the boy can’t be Brandon, Benjen, Howland or Ned.

If these flashback kids have a scene with the main cast, the main cast only includes Bran.
I’m inclined to think these are new characters – at least the boy is. 16-year old girl can be Wylla Manderly, and the boy could be a grandson of Manderly (non-existant in the books).

Maybe these are some wildling kids in the Gift who watches as the Wall comes down.

  97. Flayed Potatoes: Definitely keeping my eyes peeled for a Rhaegar casting (or they could just put Kit in a blonde wig…wouldn’t that be hilarious?).

It would look something like this:

    http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff496/BoudicaL/JS06d.jpg
    http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff496/BoudicaL/JS17a.jpg

I think we will never see Rhaegar, and I actually almost hope that we will never see Rhaegar. Rhaegar is in some ways almost like a fantasy Prince, I think he would always be better in people’s own imaginations.

  98. Our first official casting call for Season 7! Excellent! When information about the next season starts to arrive before the current one is even over, it’s always a good day. 🙂

Given how far past the novels we are in the Northern storyline, it’s possible that these could be entirely new characters. But otherwise, I agree with the general consensus that the girl could be Alys Karstark, and the boy could be the young heir to House Umber, both of whom would likely bend the knee and pledge fealty to the victorious Starks after Harald Karstark and Smalljon Umber are (presumably) killed during the Battle of the Bastards. As others have said, I think the idea that these characters will supposedly have scenes with leading cast members makes flashbacks less likely. It’s not impossible, of course. Isaac Hempstead-Wright’s a leading cast member, and we’ve seen this season that Bran is able to interact with the past, for better or worse.

  99. Wedla,

In the books. The actor playing TOJ Ned was older than that.

    Flayed Potatoes,

Jon won’t be doing any recruiting beyond the Wildlings in the books (though they already signed on prior to his death, anyway), assuming he does come back and march on Winterfell like he was going to do before he got stabbed. In the books the Northern lords are pretty much all either at Winterfell or in Stannis’ camp, whereas in the show they’re on the sidelines (and remain there, for the most part).
  100. Shishir:
Alys Karstark??? Who become new heir to House Karstark and pledges again to starks. Young boy of 10 could be son of Small Jon Umber and would do the same.

That sound about right for Alys Karstark wonders if her story goes according to the books?

  101. Jesus !!! Season 6 still has 2 episodes left to run and now there is speculation at what will happen in S7 !

I would hope by the time S7 airs, GRRM will have finally finished and published the WoW. Although I’m not a book reader, it will be interested to see what the posters on this website who are have to say about that 😉

  102. Boudica,

Kit might have to shave his beard for that flashback 😛

    Sean C.,

I keep thinking about the Mormonts, but ia it won’t be difficult to convince them. The chess pieces seem to be arranged already.

  103. Since the casting information has started to arrive, I’ll throw something else out there. The past few years around this time of year (namely, with one or two episodes left in the season), the track list for the season’s soundtrack has emerged, along with the 30 second previews for each piece. I’m hoping that the same will happen this year, and we’ll see the details for the Season 6 soundtrack emerge soon. Right now, I can’t even find the release date (Amazon has something about the audio CD being released on July 29, but it looks sketchy as hell. I have no idea how reliable it is).

I wouldn’t be surprised if the soundtrack is delayed this year because when the track list is released before the season is over, we’re usually able to glean a few minor spoilers from it (Of course, sometimes those conclusions are incorrect. I remember when the Season 4 track list leaked, everyone thought “Oathkeeper” foretold the arrival of LS. It turned out to be the score for Brienne’s duel with the Hound). If it is, so be it. Mainly, I’m just eager to listen to it. Ramin Djwadi composed some beautiful pieces for Season 6 that I’m looking forward to playing over and over again when I get the chance.

  104. So what do we think is going to happen in s7 plotwise?

Jon wins battle of bastards and rules in WF….Sansa goes to the vale?

Dany wins battle of slavers bay and heads over to Westeros with the greyjoys. Euron some plays into this and I’m assuming we will still find out who the harpy is.

Night’s King will bring the wall down so we’ll see Edd and company again.

Cersei leaves KL or kills the sparrow and stays in KL with or without Tommen.

    Jaime sticks around the riverlands….

The Hound, Beric and Thoros make their way to the wall?

Arya heads to Westeros or arrives in Westeros in S7 and begins her revenge tour.

Bran and Meera stick around at the wall or head to Winterfell?

    And Gendry continues rowing.

  105. Based on the books, Alys Karstark is the only character I can think of for the girl (there is little point in bringing Jeyne Poole back at this point) and main cast generally refers to the current-era actors.

I do wonder if the boy and girl are meant to be siblings? If so, they would need to be aged up a lot to be the Glover children. So perhaps a Karstark and an Umber would make sense if one/both of them were to die on Sunday. Even if they live, should Jon and Sansa prevail then Harald and Smalljon will likely be captured. And if the Starks re-take Winterfell then some sort of Northern Council to discuss the threat of the WW would make sense (at least to me) and these two young people could inherit their seats at a young age as a result of war like Lyanna Mormont did.

Perhaps such announcements might begin to make more sense once season 6 is finished and we see where everyone ends up? But the northern accents does at least make me think that (as it should be) a lot of future screentime will be dedicated to the north.

The fact that these casting calls have been made at all have me looking forward already to next season, and to months of trying to piece together what is to come. If they are splitting a final season in two, then I kind of see the first half – to air 2017 – concentrating on wrapping up the man v man conflicts (such as Dany sweeping through Westeros and the final fall of the Lannisters bar Tyrion) and the second half – to air 2018 – concentrating solely on the WW conflict with a final episode at the end to tie things up.

I also hope – though I have no evidence for it – that with fewer episodes, they may be longer, in the sense that they are closer to 60 minutes than 50.

  106. Darkrobin:
    Flayed Potatoes,
You and me both.It took me a long time to understand that

Timelines will continue to be a bit off in TWOW, I fear. The Alayne I chapter from TWOW appears to be set much before the KL chapters in ADWD.
    TWOW spoilers

Many people expect Sansa/Aegon affair to happen, but I doubt if Sansa will still be at the Vale by the time Aegon has taken Storm’s End. Right now LF has only learned about Kettleblack brothers’ imprisonment.
  107. Chuck:
    Beer Island,

Yeah assuming Snow and Sansa win the battle, and Jon is named KITN, I wonder who will remain at Winterfell to rule in Jon’s place. Sansa? I can’t see that as there wouldn’t be much for her to do there? Jon is clearly going to be on the move whether to back to the wall or somewhere else to fight the walkers I don’t know.

Jon said in 6×05, “we can’t defend the north from the Walkers…if we want to survive we need Winterfell”. Assuming the Starks are victorious, I’d imagine Winterfell would be his base of operations. Let the other Northern lords come to WF for any winter and war preparations. Except for maybe visiting the Wall, I don’t think Jon will be on the move too much in S7.

  108. Chuck,

    This is fun!!

    For now I think:

Jon, Sansa, and LF stay in the North (Winterfell most likely). Bran, Meera, Arya, The Hound, Brienne, Pod, and The Brotherhood without Banners (yeees!!) will head there as well (provided nothing shocking happens…like deaths lol).

The Wall comes down with poor Edd as LC.

Dany heads to Westeros and lands in Dorne to start her conquest. She’ll face Euron before heading to King’s Landing. Her Meereen squad will be with her.

Cersei will stay in King’s Landing for a bit. Maybe she’ll go to Casterly Rock later on.

No clue what Jaime is doing. His storyline could go almost in any direction imo.

My guess is we’re getting a Northern storyline (Jon’s squad), a Southern storyline (Dany’s squad), King’s Landing (Cersei) with Sam and Euron doing their own things on the side before they get attached to one of the main storylines. And some Wall action when needed. No clue about how Jaime fits into all of this…it depends if there are any loose ends in the Riverlands after the season finale imo. There will be a lot of characters in these geographical areas, so I’m hoping we’ll get all sorts of character combinations.

  109. Jared:
    -snip-
Mainly, I’m just eager to listen to it. Ramin Djwadi composed some beautiful pieces for Season 6 that I’m looking forward to playing over and over again when I get the chance.

Yes! I’m really looking forward to the soundtrack being released. Some of my favorites have been Jon’s new theme, the beginning of episode 7 with the Hound and Ray, and of course all the variations to Dany’s theme (particularly the one at the end of episode 4 and the one at the end of episode 6)

  110. Flayed Potatoes,

Forgot about Sam….he will prob find a way to defeat the night’s king (other than dragonglass) I’m guessing. On the way back he’ll run into his father again? Or maybe that was a one off storyline.

Yeah I honestly have no idea where Jaime will go.

  111. Lord Giantsbane,

If you think Alys (at 16) has to marry a son of Tormund rather than Tormund himself, you haven’t been paying attention!
Young women don’t get to choose who they love (sorry Jaime, your male privilege is showing) in GoT world.

  112. Laura:
I wonder if they could be somehow related to Howland Reed? I don’t think Jojen and Meera have younger siblings but who knows what the show will do. They’re going to have to get a living person who was there to verify Jon’s birthright. No one will trust a message from Jon’s treebrothercousin.

What, like Howland Reed who was actually there with Ned Stark at the TOJ and knows exactly what happened?

  113. Chuck,

I wonder if Sam is going to study Heartsbane and learn how Valyrian Steel is made. That would be cool. I hope they bring back his family. By the looks of it the Tyrells are hanging on by a thread, so it would make sense to introduce another family from the Reach who can take over. Sam’s father is also a military commander, so he could be useful in the future. Mace can’t even command a dinner procession.

  114. Jared: Ramin Djwadi composed some beautiful pieces for Season 6 that I’m looking forward to playing over and over again when I get the chance.

You are so right – His music is inspiring and uplifting and always, always adds the perfect emotional element to every scene, without fail. He’s so overdue for the proper recognition for his work on GoT, don’t you think?

  115. Flayed Potatoes: Sam’s father is also a military commander, so he could be useful in the future.

You are right, he has been and could be useful in the future, if he behaves. But after seeing that imperious f***er in action, I wouldn’t put it past him to make a play for the throne himself, having vowed not to make the same mistake Tywin Lannister did by allowing his grandchild to become King, rather than seizing the throne for himself. We all know he despises what he deems as “weakness” in sons. Wouldn’t he be rather scornful of Loras as king, and not want to serve him? Especially after the ordeal Loras has been through, IF Loras even survives what we think Cersei has in store for a city whose citizens hate her. Loras is indeed a broken man. Anyway, that’s my take on what a character like Randyll would do.

  116. GeekFurious,

    Ugh…

I hate to be the stereotypical whiny fanboy here, but even most non-book readers know this is canon by now. Why drag the revelation out longer than it needs to be dragged out? This feels like more wheel-spinning and stalling when this show needs to be sprinting to the finish line if it wants to wrap this up in 14-15 episodes. I know D&D feel some obligation to George to avoid spoiling as much as possible from his books, but the time has come to either get beyond that or wait until the Fat Man finishes Winds before moving on to the next season (yeah, I know…).

  117. We’re past the books and beyond the Wall, so to speak, into the Land of Always Speculation.

    Haha loved this line, kutgw

As fr the casting notices, would say they are part of the contemporary timeline, as High Stakes seems to suggest they are discussing WW invasion IMO

Could be like them kids in that 2nd LOTR film who turn up to tell the main characters there are raids happening etc

Outside of that, could be that so many Lords are killed in this weeks episode of Bastardbowl that many that are left to deal with the insignificant aftermath detail of Grmupkins and Snarks coming to get them are children

Eg Alys Karstark for the 16yo girl?

  118. AceFreezy:
So what are the chances lady stoned heart makes an appearance this season? I have a $20 bet with a friend that she wont be.

Well, as we’ll see her in episode 10 this season, chances are you’ll lose your money ;-).

  119. Mihnea:
    Halfman,

    They never will sadly…

They dug themselves to deep into this hole. Everything that points there is no LSH, they will read as proof she will appear.

Thankfully for the sane ones, the ”hype” is dead

Who ever anywhere talked about “proof”? I dare you to back your insulting strawman claim.

The odds of her appearing went up as news of this season leaked out. After E08, they fell sharply. That’s too bad, but a lot of things about E08 were too bad.

  120. I rather doubt that the showrunners are going to introduce Alys Karstark into the story at this point. They are pruning out characters, not looking to add new ones with new subplots (though I do hope that Marwyn the Mage doesn’t get tossed out with the bathwater). And I frankly don’t see why she’s needed, since Sansa came to Castle Black instead.

If the Wall is soon to be broached and the Walking Dead about to start swarming southwards, there will have to be scenes where our primary characters encounter refugees fleeing from them and reporting what they’ve seen. I suspect that these are just two random wildling or Northern kids who managed to escape. They might be Karsi’s children, whom Jon would likely recognize, but I seem to remember those two as being quite a bit younger than the casting call specifies.

  121. aabe,

TWOW Alayne I was supposed to be in ADWD, but was moved out because GRRM thought it worked better as the beginning of a new storyline. Why would you expect Sansa to no longer be in the Vale by the beginning of TWOW? GRRM has been setting up a ton of characters and plot devices there; probably Sansa will be there for most of TWOW, if not all of it, depending on how things play out.
  122. Jared: Ramin Djwadi composed some beautiful pieces for Season 6 that I’m looking forward to playing over and over again when I get the chance.

Completely agree! Especially on rewatches, the music completely stood out for me. I was watching The Door today and I was struck by the music when Jorah is ordered to find a cure by Daenerys and he watches as the army leaves. Such lovely music! In a way, the overall themes associated with characters also hint at the future storylines – so I suddenly felt hopeful for Jorah! 🙂

  123. Re my above opinion of what Randyll Tarly might do, I said “Loras as King.” Before you jump all over me, I know I need to refine that, because no, I don’t think Loras ever had a chance to be King. What I meant to type was “Loras as patriarch of the Tyrell family.” If something happens to Mace, which it very well might, Loras would be next in line, and Randyll would be serving Loras.

In an attempt to figure what a character like RT would do, based on what we already know of his personality and past actions, adding into the equation his rage at having the family heirloom sword, Heartsbane, stolen from beneath his nose by a despised son, (YAY JOHN!), I have come to the following outlook: I believe that Mace’s death would be a catalyst for all sorts of mayhem. If Randyll’s sworn liege lord, Mace, dies, someone like Randyll, still percolating fury after Sam’s visit, would probably vow to undo the influence of ALL weak sons, including Mace, and make an attempt to exert his own influence way beyond being head of the troops. We know he is an extremely proud and arrogant man; not having read the books, I don’t know how loyal he is written. If his loyalty to the Tyrells has frayed at the edges over the years, he just might be impelled to cast them aside completely.

Yes, yes, I know there has been nothing in the show to hint about such a thing in any way, other than showing us what type of man he is. This is just me carrying the thought process on this subject a little further, to tickle my own fancy. Someone has to tickle it.

Anyway, that’s what I’ve been thinking about today, rather than going out into the heat and doing what I should be doing. You all have a good day, I will be on here later to catch up.

  124. Darkrobin: patches are mostly what holds you together. Patches, potions and pills,
    Just like Mel?

and a necklace with a big-assed magical ruby in it, yeah (don’t I wish I could get one of those!)

  125. Both will be minor characters that our friends in the North help evacuate from a Northern village/town/castle to avoid the immediate threat of WWs south of the wall.

  126. Shishir:
Alys Karstark??? Who become new heir to House Karstark and pledges again to starks. Young boy of 10 could be son of Small Jon Umber and would do the same.

    My thoughts, too.

  127. Firannion,

I do hope that Marwyn the Mage doesn’t get tossed out

I would be very happy if he did appear. It would seem that someone from the Citadel would need to advise Dany. Or maybe Sam plays that role, though he seems a bit young for i (and not a maester either).

  128. jentario,

and then with editing taking ~3 months,

GWWM edited? If it could come out before next April they would likely rush it to publication without other than the most cursory editing.

  129. GeekFurious,

You just couldn’t stop yourself from bringing information up from potential leaks, could you. Yeah, I know you put parts of it under spoiler code, and, no, I didn’t uncover what was there, but based on the subsequent conversation, it’s pretty fucking clear what was under there.
    Take it to the Forums!!!

ps – You know damn well most are not expecting stuff from potential leaks under the spoiler code. I’m sure you’re just so pleased with yourself you may have spoiled some people about what to expect, at least regarding one element, in the remaining episodes.

  130. Oops…in my li’l tirade, I neglected to notice at least “if the leaks were correct,” or however you put it, was placed before what you put under spoiler code, so the “ps” of my comment doesn’t fully apply. Please, though, have the courtesy to, if you must discuss anything about a potentially leaked info. to keep it out of the comment section for articles, and relegate to the forums.

  131. Darkrobin,

The difference is it allows me to guess or know what will happen and how it will happen ..

For instance we can tell that there will be a battle of similar kind in north between Ramsey and Jon and sansa with vale will comes for Jon’s aide. .

Like you say we know yara and the on are taking victarions role…

Like it or not george is at snail pace and D&D are rushing toward an ending …its a damn Shame we can’t find the middle ground with proper pacing and time to breathe .

    Marlana,

Yeah I know that …when I say I hope book gets release this year.
It has nothing to do with season 7 ..

I didn’t believe the book will be finished in 2014 or 15
I have long believed the book will come out in early 2017 or late 2016 ..so the time as come for that ..

When I said I hope the book gets finished its mainly because it will help get pass the waiting period of next season for sometimes

  132. Boston Snow:
    Mihnea,

If KL is going to burn this season, they will keep the wall coming down for s7.I don’t think they squeeze that into a 5 minute segment.Too dramatic. The wall coming down, and the struggle before it (i.e. Bran trying to stop the Night King), could warrant an entire episode of its own.Or maybe 1/2 an episode. It’s The Wall!

I’m not so sure. I’m still pretty convinced it’s coming down in ep 10 (what else can this episode title possibly mean). It’d be the perfect epic climax to the season after all we’ve seen, especially if this happens in parallel with KL burning in a massive inferno: Ice and Fire

  133. Are you people really serious – I wont go back there and you cant make me – please don’t make me – HELP!!!???

It feels as though it was only last month we were knee deep in season 6 casting news and anxiously awaiting photos, a trailer, anything.

Forgive the diatribe my friends, let the games begin – however, with absolutely no source material, it’s going to be a rough ride.

  134. Nymeria Warrior Queen:
    GeekFurious,

You just couldn’t stop yourself from bringing information up from potential leaks, could you.Yeah, I know you put parts of it under spoiler code, and, no, I didn’t uncover what was there, but based on the subsequent conversation, it’s pretty fucking clear what was under there.
    Take it to the Forums!!!

Entitled, aren’t we? You come to a page on a casting call for S7 and want to dictate that a certain kind of spoiler isn’t here? Be realistic. People are going to use the SPOILER tag for SPOILERS, which are things that spoil, which is what he did. And also, realistically, people are going to discuss them, and over dozens of comments much will be uncovered. If you’re so averse to spoilers you’re in the wrong place. And good god, this is a page about S7 details! What do you expect? People to talk about what happened in S1-S5?

  135. jentario:
    dragonbringer,

Don’t think the book will be out too long before season 7. It definitely is far from done at the moment, so it should take GRRM at least a couple of months (and that’s optimistic to the point of dellusion), and then with editing taking ~3 months, the show mught as well just wait to ship the books alongside season 7 to get the most monetary traction.

To be honest, I think Winds of Winter will be a mid 2017 release. Post season 7. And by then the show will have overtaken everything in the book.

As of last August, GRRM thought he could finish by the end of last year. He could finish today for all you or anyone in the public knows.

Any reasonable extrapolation of his shifting deadlines puts the release around year’s end, give or take a bit.

  136. Off-Topic Otto,

    Excuse me?
All season it’s been made very clear any discussion stemming from potential leaked information be relegated to the forums. There’s a difference between spoilers and information from potential leaks. And good god, I expected to see discussion and speculation about season 7 on a season 7 casting thread. I certainly didn’t expect to see a discussion about information from possible leaks from the remaining episodes of season 6 on a season 7 casting thread.

  137. Chad Brick,

It’s possible he’s almost finished, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Martin is notoriously bad at judging the progress of his own work and of meeting deadlines. After finishing AFFC, he thought he would have his next book out the very next year, when it took 6 years.

  138. Sean C.,
I have no real reason to say Sansa will no longer be in the Vale by the time Aegon reaches King’s Landing, but there are various directions her story could go (given enough time), which would still involve Vale characters but with Sansa herself out of the Vale.

LF is lord of Harrenhal, he will have to at least visit the place once to set things right. Sansa wants revenge against Walder Frey (I think LF will too. Tywin’s plan was to spare Catelyn Stark, but the Freys killed her and showed disrespect to her corpse.) If LF uses the Vale nobility to fight for Sansa Stark, they will be more than happy to serve justice to the Freys. LF and Sansa could also meet Brotherhood and LSH this way, which would be interesting.

There are people inside and just outside Vale, searching for Sansa – Mad Mouse, Brienne, Jaime and the Brotherhood

I don’t think Sansa will leave the Vale immediately, but there is enough setup for events to happen that might cause her to leave it for Riverlands or even the North (If Stannis takes it back. LF himself might make an alliance with Stannis via Sansa).

  139. Could they be working a fake Arya/Sansa (if she dies) and fake Rickon in post Battle of the Bastards.

Jon/Sansa marrying off a fake starks to other houses to strengthen bonds against the mad queen?

  140. dragonbringer:
I have long believed the book will come out in early 2017 or late 2016 ..so the time as come for that ..

I know we readers are eager to read vol 6 no matter what season/episode the show is doing. That said, I wonder if the book will be held back until after S7 so as not to provide any confusion between book canon and newly made up show canon. Speculation is futile, however, and earth time/distance does not compress as on the show.

  141. Halfman,

I get a feeling the “back from the dead” trope is where GRRM and D&D really depart. Martin seems to love it, while D&D, by all appearances, don’t. It even seems like if they could’ve avoided the whole thing with Jon, they would have.

  142. Ravyn: Halfman,

the “back from the dead” trope .

Reanimating dead mammals just for the asking makes it seem like a video game reinitializing to start a cycle again. I’m hoping that is not the final reveal.

  143. Chad Brick,

Coming from the same man who thought he could finish ADWD in a year, it doesn’t mean much. Besides, with the show already overtaking him I think he isn’t as motivated as he was before.

  144. Off-Topic Otto: And also, realistically, people are going to discuss them, and over dozens of comments much will be uncovered.

Which is exactly why people aren’t allowed to discuss leaks in the comments in the first place.

  145. Terrible thought…what if we don’t SEE the finish of the TOJ? Would we not know exactly what Lyanna means with “promise me, Ned.” OMG, what if it ends there? THAT would be awful….just a thought, but I’m thinking flashback, too. Then again, with major cast members? Dang, I don’t know…

  146. ygritte,

yup..we will see EXACTLY what we have in the books.. Ned in room with dying, bleeding Lyanna and her saying “promise me”.. end scene..fade to black
the full reveal will come next season I think (with the background to go with it) and the same actress thats playing her in the TOJ scene will be the one to play her next season

  147. The boy is a whitewalker, one of Craster’s sons. The girl a hostage of the whitewalkers to be used for breeding.

  148. Elizabeth,

Oh I think you can count on that. Letting George do the reveal in WOW which hopefully will come out before season 7

Many show watchers aren’t in anticipation over it. I know a number of people who love and watch the show. None have read the books. None go on the net looking for forums or info and none of them have the faintest idea of the significance of the TOJ scenes, only that there’s some kind of mystery about it. It’s six years since they watched season one and they’ve all forgotten about the identity of Jon’s mother.

  149. I’ve added this info to the post but in case anyone misses it, this is what I added today, re: the Northern girl and boy:

These particular roles will be filming in September and October. We’ve also heard there are other child roles being cast at the moment, but we haven’t received any more details on them.

  150. Sue the Fury,

Can you please tell me the contact for the London HBO casting for these two characters?

I know a couple of extremely bright, talented very northern/Stark looking kids who I would like to pass the information on to.

  151. If it’s a flashback, they could be a young Littlefinger meeting Catlyn or Ned meeting Cat.
The offspring of Umber and Carstark or even the Manderlys sound possible as well.

  152. Rachelle,

No I’m sorry, we can’t help with casting. You pretty much have to have an agent already to get involved, they’re not open calls.

  153. Yes I love casting threads!!!!!!

I agree Alys Karstark fits the 16 year old northern criteria, only problem with that is we r way too far in the storyline for her arc to matter.

I think we may meet Howland Reed in epp 10. He was name dropped by the three eyed Raven already this series and if bran does the big reveal he comes into play. How cool would it be if D@D got a famous actor and kept it secret from us all!!!

    Feels good posting again

  154. One thing for certain is that the children they cast in these roles will be amazing. GoT has an incredible hit-rate with child actors – as good as (if not better than) any TV series ever. There is obviously the ones in the main cast, but others such as Shireen and Lyanna Mormont stand out too. Incredible job by the casting team to locate such gems.

  155. Halfman,

Totally agree. I don’t want to see her. It’s way too late in the game and would have no real effect on the outcome. Arya is basically taking the role by going off on her own and avenging them now

  156. At this point, the show almost certainly is using characters that first appear in Winter or Spring. And, given GRRM’s pace, it’s possible that we’ll never see these characters published.

  157. Young Dragon: After finishing AFFC, he thought he would have his next book out the very next year, when it took 6 years.

At this point, I think it very improbable that Winter will be out before the TV series ends. If nothing else, then his decision to alter the plot of a character might require a lot of revising of prior chapters.

My big (and desperate) hope is that he is not padding the books with gratuitous world-building in order to provide readers with something that the show did not provide.

  158. One thing is for sure – no casting for Shae. In an interview with a major German newspaper that appeared today, Sibel Kekilli has made it clear beyond doubt that there won’t be an appearance of Shae anymore. That confirms what several commentators have already suspected: The sightings of Sibel Kekilli on set in costume have been arranged by Dan and Dave to confuse fans about possible twists of storyline. As someone mentioned, a better plot in real life than for some of the figures in the story.

  159. Marin: Arya is basically taking the role by going off on her own and avenging them now

Arya cannot take the role of a tertiary character: Arya has to do the same arc in both media in order to make the same contribution to the story.

Stefiz Flowers: maybe Ned’s brother Brandon and Cat?

Catelyn is not a Northerner. Besides, we should be running into new incidental characters in Winter and Spring. These probably number among them.

  160. I think they’ll be young Umber and/or Karstark heirs being pressured to pledge fealty. That’d be with main cast and be high stakes.

And it’s the type of scene that the producers could decide to include and start casting without necessarily having the plot and script for season 7 finalised.

  161. Why would it be Lyanna? Young Lyanna was already in this season and older Lyanna seems like she’ll be in the finale with the rest of ToJ.

  162. Ramsay’s 20th Good Man: That’d be with main cast and be high stakes.

It might not be particularly high stakes at that point. Once the Walkers make their existence known to all, then the house allegiances issue is going to become almost meaningless: it is going to be humanity vs. the Walkers. And given that we probably have ~15 episodes after this season ends, I will be very surprised if the Walkers do not make themselves known very soon. (I will be more than a little surprised if the first basic steps happen in Episode 10.)

  163. Wimsey,

There’s only a week now until we find out for certain, but I don’t think we’ll see the White Walkers cross the Wall before next season.

They’re basically unbeatable right now. Once they cross the Wall they would sweep all before them, and Daenerys has yet to set sail for Westeros and still has Euron to deal with even after she’s dealt with the Masters.

I think the White Walker invasion won’t occur until next season, and the early episodes of season 7 will be a race against time to try and unite the Seven Kingdoms, which will include uniting the fractured North.

  164. Alys Karstark i assume.

10 year old boy. Mmm let me think. Smaljons Son.

But we are thinking in boxes. We all assume they are from the North in Westeros. What if they are from North of the Wall.

  165. Al:
Does anybody know how to audition/apply for these parts?

    Sue the Fury:
    Rachelle,

No I’m sorry, we can’t help with casting. You pretty much have to have an agent already to get involved, they’re not open calls.

  166. I think this will be an adaptation of the story betrothing Little Walder Frey to Wylla Manderly, before he dies. Walder Frey will not die next week, but he will die next season, I think.

  167. “High stakes scene” could be flashback to duel between Littlefinger and Brandon Stark. The girl is young Cat.

The show has messed with the ages before – Plus, this would give Littlefinger more depth and IMO help viewers potentially empathize a bit with his generally difficult-to-like character.

He’s survived this long and only continued to grow in power the whole time, plus the reclaiming of Winterfell and his now uninhibited pursuit of Sansa makes the time ripe for such a flashback.

  168. Meera and Jojen flash back of their dad Howland Reed telling them something about Harrenhal? My only guess besides Lyanna and Benjen.

  169. I vote we introduce a major black character from the summer isles; Cersei and the lannisters are going to need some allies, and teaming with a ‘written’ in character from the summer isles would be great. Since there will not be many books and the writers are just doing their thing, why not do it? You have magic swords, dragons, teleportation, mind reading, mind control, overgrown wolves, resurrections, many-faced gods, incest, zombies, mini-elven elemental creatures, but you can’t put in a major black character?

Though I must add, if you do add a black major character, he must have a cross-over appeal for one and he can not be someone notable. He must be unknown and have a presence that demands attention. This will be hard, or easy, depending on you. Might I suggest this man ? Character name: Kamil Xander; leader of the Arch Knights of the Summer Isles

    There’s still time.

  170. Either it’s the Tourney at Harrenhall, or it’s a scene at the Crossroads Inn. Most likely the Inn – from the books where

Brienne is attacked by the Brave Companions and saved by Gendry. The Inn is run by orphans at that point.
  171. Hi! Does anyone know how you would apply for one of these roles? I would love to, but I can’t seem to find any contact info. Thanks!

  172. Had to come back because I’ve been thinking about this-Northern kids casting-with my re-read. It very well could be a Gendry thing. Maybe at Hot Pie’s Inn?
And Brienne and/or BWB comes across them?
Or Arya…because that’s close to where she left Nymeria right?
That would be a great reunion. I bet Hot Pie’s direwolf bread is amazing now. 🙂

  173. Lisa,

Extras would be through one of the NI extras agency’s. Other roles are handled by Nina Gold casting. They don’t nowadays hold open auditions do you have an agent??
