Game of Thrones Season 6 Photoshop Challenge!

Every year, shortly before the new season of Game of Thrones begins, there are invariably photo “leaks.” And I don’t mean the juicy kind where real material finds its way from production to our inboxes. Everyone gets excited about the new season, and then some fans start getting creative, putting together images from the next season. There have been a few manufactured photo “leaks” going around these past few months, so we figured, why not put this energy to good use?

With that spirit in mind, Watchers on the Wall is happy to announce our first Photoshop challenge!


The assignment? Show us what you’re envisioning or hoping for in season 6.

Use your imaginations and have as much fun as you want to- silly is great. Although Photoshop or other software skills are handy, it’s not strictly necessary. You can create something with good old MS Paint if you like. In the entries, we’re looking for a mixture of creativity, cleverness, humor and striking visuals.

I made this stunning piece of art to demonstrate how little craftsmanship is needed to enter the contest.

The deadline for entering the contest is March 30th by 12PM ET. So you have two weeks to come up with something!

We’ll gather up submissions and post them all on April 1st, aka April Fools Day. It just seemed like the right day for this sort of thing. Along with the final post, the Watchers on the Wall staff will choose and announce the winners- one Grand Winner, and a Runner-Up.

How do you submit your creations? You can link to your photo entries in the comments of this post by sharing a link to your image. You can also Tweet entries at @WatchersOTWall or email them directly to us at [email protected].

Rules –

  1. You are permitted to submit more than one entry, though a person will only win once. You can’t win both prizes, dammit!
  2. Worldwide entries are welcome.
  3. Game of Thrones does have nudity and violent imagery and these are acceptable in entries since we are using manipulated images. However, please do not add additionally graphic images from other sources. I mean maybe an orgy will happen in season 6, but let’s not go depicting it. We reserve the right to not publish an entry if it’s not acceptable.
  4. All entries must be posted/tweeted/emailed to Watchers on the Wall by March 30th, at 12PM ET.

Now the really good part- the prizes!

Grand Prize

The Grand Prize Winner will take home a double prize pack of Game of Thrones figures from Dark Horse Comics.

Margaery dollThe number one winner will receive Ygritte and Oberyn Martell figures, from the officially licensed line of Game of Thrones toys. They’re beautifully detailed, and they’re the newest additions to the Dark Horse line, along with our runner-up prize.

Our Runner-up in the contest will receive one Game of Thrones figure from Dark Horse Comics- the brand new Margaery Tyrell figure.

We look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! Since we announced the contest informally yesterday on Twitter, I’m already seeing the talent and humor in our fandom. Feel free to ask us if you have any questions about the contest or concerns that need clarifying.

  3. This is such a ridiculously good and silly competition. I’m sure they’ll be some great entries, and I can see people on other websites trying to pass them off as real.

    I don’t know if I’ll enter myself as I have never used Photoshop or anything, but I might try something in Paint.

  9. When it comes to spoilers that are definitely confirmed, in the final post I’m going to have separate sections. Safe stuff in the post first, and then a big warning that the next section will contain book/spoiler things, because I knew

    I don’t consider speculating on Jon’s fate to be a spoiler because we don’t really know, they’re just guesses. But if you post ACTUAL spoilers from season 6, yeah it’ll go in the spoiler section.

  14. Excellent idea, though I don’t think I’ll be joining the competition, I can’t even use paint. But it will be fun to see everyone’s attempts.

    I am a regular WOTW Twitter stalker, but I am popping on here in to say that your art is one of my favorites on the internet. Strangely enough, it’s actually one of the many reference photos that I

    have been using to help me in making my Lady Stoneheart cosplay for SDCC this year – you know…since fan art is the only visual reference that is currently available! So, thank you for your wonderful art! 😉

  20. I am terrible at photoshop but I did create a picture. It won’t win the contest. I will work on it to clean it up a bit. I cropped a bunch of images together and they are not lined up correctly. There are a lot of white spaces and stretched out images. I will post the link here when I am done. First time photoshopper so I hope there isn’t too much harsh judgement. Let’s have some fun.

    Your art is so great. My photoshop that I created in MS Paint looks so awful compared to your stuff.

    I really like this idea, although i don’t use these softwares…I really hope that next time, besides the sofware, you can include drawings and paintings o stuff like that…I really like to draw 🙂

    I typically just lurk, Azad, but I had to chime in to agree with everyone else that your artwork on this piece is simply stellar! I have long considered it to be my favorite rendition of the character.

  36. Mmmm I think a certain type of large, dangerous, semi-aquatic bird might be making an appearance…..Good work everyone so far, although some of them might need spoiler warnings. I’m lucky enough to be able to use Phtoshop but lots of people probably don’t have access to any suitable computer programs. Guys-who-decide-these-things perhaps you could expand the competition to any kind of artistic entry, or maybe have one for non-computer generated images if you want to keep them separate? 😀

    Sidenote: I wish the first prize was Ygritte along with Jon Snow,instead of Oberyn (nothing against Red Viper,love him to bits). Its just that way one could re enact the scenes from episodes like E409 etc…..in a non creepy way ofcourse 😉

    These are fab, did you do them yourself? I especially like the Bolton one, and he looks good as both Mel and Brienne.

    I think you might be on to something and the twist is he comes back as everybody but Jon.
