First Look at Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones Season 6

Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 3.24.26 PM

Slow news Sunday… but here is something:

HBO has released a short promotional video for their HBO NOW service that includes a new, (very) brief glimpse of the Kingslayer himself from the upcoming season of Game of Thrones.

Check out the vid after the cut…

Oz: Jaime appears to be back in the saddle in King’s Landing sporting his dapper Kingsguard gear at some sort of capital gathering (probably a Westeros Chamber of Commerce “welcome back” picnic).

What else do you Sers and Ladies see? And when do you think we should expect the first S6 trailer? If HBO waits until Vinyl debuts on February 14, that would give us roughly another month before we get our first glimpse at the new Season. Speculate away.

  1. It seems like there are Tyrell soldiers behind Jaime, they’re holding shields with what appears to be a gold rose on a green background…

  2. Jaime back at King’s Landing to witness Cersei’s trial by combat. And who knows, turns against Cersei somehow… ?

  3. I think they’ll make a big deal out of the first trailer to build up hype. We’re going to know about it in advance.

  4. Im assuming what Jaime will be doing in KL is some version of what Willas is going to do in winds, since by the end of this season by reports he’s at river run and GRRM said Willas was going to play a bigger role later on, but he’s been cut from the show.

  5. Here’s the article I wanted to point to, but I can’t edit my first post for some reason : https://watchersonthewall.com/major-kings-landing-season-6-spoilers-jeremy-podeswa-and-pilou-asbaek-interviewed/

At some stage in the season, there will be an interesting public confrontation in King’s Landing. A mounted Jaime Lannister, leading a troop of Tyrell soldiers in a demonstration of force, will march on the Sept of Baelor (presumably to demand Margaery’s release). At the steps leading to the sept, they will come to a halt. Surprisingly the Sparrows submit easily, and release Margaery, who appears to have become a devotee to the Seven and an instrument of the Faith. It’s not known if Margaery’s conversion is genuine or a ploy to get released.
  6. *Swoons* So handsome. *Heart Eyes*

Side note…wasn’t that “Westworld” show supposed to premiere last year? What happened with that?

  7. His pose and look are very Tywinesque. Possible way to show he’s assuming his responsabilities and becoming the one his father wanted him to be (at least partially). He has tremendously evolved since Season 1.

  8. Please, please, please be wrong about the trailer not appearing until February. I don’t want to have to wait that long! NCW still looking fiiiine. 😉

  9. I told you they are going to Torture us, I doubt they will give us a release date for a trailer, that would be to easy, these Sadists are going to release it on a random time.
unless it is on the 7th or the 14th.

  10. I am seriously fed up with petty politics of KL, Cersei, Jamie, Tyrells, etc. etc. Since Joffery died the whole KL dynamics especially on the show have been a sheer disappointment and bore..and now when Tyrion is outta there these scenes are intolerable..
Show us more of North, CoTF, Jon, Bran already!!

  11. It appears to be Jaime Lannister sitting on a horse with Tyrell guards in the back. He appears to be somewhat smug and/or decisive, and is about to instruct the launching of the Holy hand grenade upon the Cave of Baelor. Or, you know, the scene already discussed on here.

  12. I wonder what they will do with Widow’s wail on the show, it probably won’t get answered this season, but still.

  13. Matthew The Dragon knight,

I think maybe Jaime will take it with him when he leaves KL. I think it has to go North, and Jaime is the best candidate I can see to at least get it heading the right direction, at least at this point. I suppose he could give it to Tommen, but I don’t see Tommen fighting, and I don’t think Jaime would see him as a fighter, so it would be a waste to give it to him.
  14. Nymeria Warrior Queen:
    Matthew The Dragon knight,

I would also like to see Jamie bring the sword North, or at least let Widow’s wail land in the hands of someone who will put it to good use. The fun part about seeing sam visit his family is that we might see Heartsbane. fingers crossed, I have a bit of an obsession with Valyrian Steel XD

  15. I’m just fucking happy for something new. January 31st for the trailer please…

  16. Someone on another thread said they saw Mace’s crown in the pic – is that it in the lower, left-hand corner? How can you tell it’s Mace’s? You guys are good with the sigils and stuff. But if that’s the case, then technically, Mace is leading the soldiers, unless there is a power-play afoot.

I also remember reading somewhere that Mace gets chastised by Olenna for going to Bravos, letting Cersei then play her tricks on Marge and Loras. Poor Mace, can’t catch a break, even after making a favorable deal for the Crown with the Iron Bank. But if he goes down, as in gets killed somehow, that leaves things wide open for Olenna to call Randyll Tarly to march in. That would make things more interesting in KL.
  17. Thronetender,

That was me. But Luka pointed out correctly that Mace’s helmet has a blue plume on it while that one doesn’t visibly. So I was wrong about that, I imagine.

EDIT: Here’s this where you can see it.

  18. cosca: The Children of the Forest and Bran? Not boring? You on crack bruv?

I’m looking forward to Bran this season – all those important flashbacks and maybe flash forwards. I think Bran will have quite an impact this season – at least allow some questions to get answered, like TOJ? That will be resolved this year, right? they wouldn’t dare tease with the actual outcome until another year?

  19. Nerd Stark:

Show us more of North, CoTF, Jon, Bran already!!

When it comes to Jon, don’t expect much. Bran and Children of the Forest excited to see them and of course North, which seems to be the most interesting storyline so far.

  20. Tywin of the Hill:
    TL,

That’d be great. Jaime and Kevan will presumably share a location for half the season, so there should be plenty of time for a chit-chat about Jaime’s character in relation to his father. I hope they took advantage of the opportunity, using his uncle Kevan, who should have plenty of screentime as Hand of the King, instead of Genna, who as far as we know has not been cast.

I would expect something like this:

“Jaime, I have known you since you were a baby. There’s plenty of Lannister in you, there’s no mistake. But Tyrion is Tywin’s son, more so than you. I said so once to your father’s face, and he would not speak to me for half a year.”
  21. I know I risk scrutiny by voicing this opinion, but I’m nervous as hell about Jaime being in KL that long post-Walk of Shame.

even last season with Brienne going North and Jaime in Dorne, their presence specifically* didn’t dramatically alter those 2 locations’ arcs from the books.

Winterfell still had the marrying Stark girl plot
Dorne still had the Kingsguard member arriving with the interest of Myrcella’s safety.

  22. Zombies That Were Promised: I know I risk scrutiny by voicing this opinion, but I’m nervous as hell about Jaime being in KL that long post-Walk of Shame.

Honestly, I am too, a bit. I would’ve expected him to abandon the city after a few episodes, before we learnt that the big Sept scene is in the middle of the season, as it is directed by Jack Bender. Hopefully they’ll give him something to do —the Riverlands are just a location for him to try and live up to his father; he can do it first in King’s Landing, and then in Riverrun. It also gives him an opportunity to interact with Tommen (as he did with Myrcella last season, trying to be a father, whether he tells the truth about it or not), Kevan (Tywin talks) and of course Cersei. My only true worry isn’t that he’s in the city for so long —it’s that they may drag out the inevitable deterioration of Jaime’s relationship with Cersei.

It was a smart move to have Jaime in the city, at least for a bit, so that he can refuse to help Cersei in person, which is way stronger in an audiovisual medium in which actors interact with each other —a letter works better in a book. You can do it in the show, of course —Theon burning the letter that would’ve warned Robb of Balon Greyjoy’s plans comes to mind, a moment that wasn’t even in the books. But if you have the opportunity to have the two actors interacting with each other, you take it. So that was a good idea… as long as they don’t drag it out too much.
  23. Rygritte: Marg & Loras are imprisoned and Mace is backpacking around fucking Braavos.

LOL, where did you find that? Hilarious, but damn, look at the evil eye Mark Gatiss is giving the photographer.

  24. Zombies That Were Promised,
    Luka Nieto,

I have a feeling he’s going to start hitting his AFFC arc beats (just on speed) upon his return to KL, since it was later in that book anyway that he went to the RL. There’s nothing particular about this scenario (post-walk Cersei) that disallows it. He’ll return

feeling responsible for the loss of a family member (like he did with Tywin), attend a funeral, grapple with his feelings of being a father (magnified by his experience with Myrcella before she died), see Cersei as an incompetent leader (x1000 from the book, as in this case he’ll be seeing the after-effects of her stupidity), wrestle with her infidelity and question their entire relationship, have a convo with Lancel, maybe with Kevan, start thinking about Brienne more blatently, maybe slap someone stupid for insulting her, take on more of a leadership role, head off to the Riverlands before Cersei has her trial, meet up with Brienne there, engage in some big dramatic occurrence at Riverrun, and by season’s end we find out approximately what Jaime’s supposed to be up to in Winds.

It’s going to be a big season for Jaime, I think.

Oh, and he’s going to be looking fine while doing it all, apparently.

  25. I have no doubt HBO will announce the first GoT’s trailer either right before or right after Vinyl’s premier so they can fake boast Vinyl’s ratings. Samething they did with True Detective season 1 (But that ended up being a good series too).

I also predict Vinyl will be a failure, does anyone know someone excited about Vinyl? Not I… I mean who gives a shit about a 70’s record label, really?

With all the shit going on in the world today and all the interesting subject matter you could have chose from the best you can offer is a series about a 70’s record label?

Maybe I am just feeling sour, just saw Star Wars 7 and was hugely disappointed. Why did this get so much praise? It was exact same shit as the originals. You could even use fighter pilot footage from the original and splice it in this one and no one would notice. No new ideas, no dazzling special effects, nothing even memorable. I could have filmed better light sabre duels. I was sitting there bored, thinking to myself “Haven’t I seen this all before?” Huge hype train is all that made this film a success IMO. No wonder there was hardly anything revealed in the trailers, it wasn’t some strategic decision by Disney, there just wasn’t shit to show. Everything in it we already seen in the originals.

This is all my opinion, I’m sure many of you LOVED it, but IMO it sucked and was boring.

    Rant over…

  26. CatspawAssassin,

My worry about this show is that it would be like BE where it was everyone’s darling for the first season, and then everybody just forget like it ever existed for the following seasons(at least that was my impression) and ending with a rushed half ass season . It wasn’t even that the show was bad or anything but the interest just wasn’t there after the first season for some reason,i wonder if GOT didn’t exist would it have had more success ?

  27. Arthur,

I’m excited about Vinyl and I expect a lot of other people are as well. I mean Scorsese is involved so people are gonna take note.

  28. Arthur,

I agree with you about Star wars but i think Vinyl has the potential to be a great show, i mean you have the former showrunner of BE and also Martin Scorsese, how could it go wrong. My only worry like i said in the previous post is that it would be forgotten by critics and audience alike and then having an unsatisfying end like Boardwalk Empire .

  29. kit_hepburn,

I so want Jaime to bitchslap someone over Brienne. Any random person will do.

    But yes,

I absolutely agree that having Jaime move on from Cersei with actual interaction between them instead of the breakup and moving on occurring only in Jaime’s head is much better for the visual medium.

And Jaime going to rescue Marge might just be what pushes Cersei over the edge.

  30. Deesensfan,

You just don’t get it do you ? The main reason people are dissapointed isn’t that it’s like all the other movies,i mean you would expect it since it’s SW,but the fact that they played it safe by relying on cheap nostalgia that literally any hack writer could do(it’s not a hard thing at all and Jar Jar Abrams being one himself isn’t a surprise)and not creating an original story that could actually enrich the universe even more . People give Lucas shit for the prequels but he could have just copied the same movies and still make a truckload of money but he chose not to and while the result wasn’t all that great at least he tried .

  31. wizardeyes,

    Tyrion the Myrion,

Vinyl is just going to have a lot of drugs and tits, the low hanging fruit HBO reaches for from time to time. What’s the subject gonna be about? Drugs, girls, mob ties… All shit we have watched 1000xs before.

I am glad you’re excited about it, maybe someone will enjoy it and that’s good. I personally won’t be watching. I have zero interest in Vinyl.

  32. The look on Jaime’s face: “I’m here to chew pork pies and kick ass, and I’m all out of pork pies.”

  33. Tyrion the Myrion,

Of course I get it. You’re always a little rude with your responses

I am merely playing devils advocate and wondering what people were actually expecting.

I went in to it expecting what I got which is probably why it didn’t bother me so much

  34. Deesensfan,

I expected there to be some homage paid to the previous 6, like a bow of respect. I was ready for that. But this “Force Awakens” one was just a total remake basically. I mean every plot point was copied and there was absolutely nothing memorable from the movie. Like I said, even the fighter jet scenes and laser fight scenes on space crafts were like… THE SAME! As the originals 30yrs ago. You could have copied and pasted those 70s scenes into this movie and you wouldn’t know the difference. The fighter jet polites even have THE SAME banter lol, for real! Oh yeah, and they blew up another Deathstar… That’s how bad it was lol….

I know many people liked the movie, I am just saying I was hugely disappointed. I don’t understand how so many critics liked the movie. I was honestly bored and just wanted to go home.

Maybe because I am old, and I felt like I watched this movie already…

  35. Luka Nieto,

I’m more interested in how exactly things shake down in the city, in terms of whether Jaime’s departure is going to work.

The filming spoilers suggest that his march on the Great Sept leads to all-out fighting between the Tyrell soldiers and the Faith Militant. How do we get from there to things apparently being in such shape that he decides to leave for the Riverlands?
  36. Deesensfan,

I didn’t mean to sound rude, sorry if i gave you that impression, the only people who really annoy me are the book purists but you’re cool even if we don’t agree on some things .

  37. Arthur,

You obviously aren’t interested in it, and that’s perfectly fine, but count me as another who is quite looking forward to it.

It is sort of funny, though, to see you be so vehemently against something which hasn’t even started airing yet.

  38. Nymeria Warrior Queen,

Not against it, just not interested.

Just like I wasn’t interested in Girls or Looking.

Doesn’t mean they will be bad quality shows, I just don’t see it catching the interest in many people, it will probably get the same ratings as Girls and Looking…

  39. jentario,

Oh yes, release date for the trailer, please! Because then I could actually do some work without being distracted by refreshing this site every five minutes while nervously shuffling my feet on the carpet 🙂

  40. Arthur:

    Rant over…

I agree with much of your “rant” and raise you one more… Are we really supposed to be impressed that Mick Jagger is one the producers? Now, if Charlie Watts was a producer I’d check that out, though his show would probably be about the changes in jazz from swing bands to be-bop. (Make this happen, Charlie!)

As for “Star Wars,” it entertained me, though you’re totally right, it was a remake. But what I disliked most were all the hidden secret relationships between the characters that were set up, as if we’re supposed to care about them. A lot of fans love that stuff, but to me it just smacked of franchise tent-pole building (like 80% of Hollywood movies these days).

And not a single space battle? End of harruummph! 😉

  41. Arthur,

Fair enough. I don’t watch a lot of other shows, but this one intrigues me. Other than Scorsese, the first thing which peaked my interest about it is the woman who played Karsi has a good role in it. I want to see more of her work. There are other reasons I’m interested, as well, but the same things don’t appeal to all people.

Oh, and I mentioned this a few days ago on another thread, and I know it has nothing to do with Jaime, but only one week until new X-Files episodes!!!

  42. CatspawAssassin,

Oh yes I agree with you about the franchise thing.

I got that Twilight “teenie booper” feeling while watching it. It’s a great formula when you are trying to make money. But I fear Star Wars will be made with the idea of making money, not trying to be original or break barriers or be risky.

Star Wars will now be the new Fast and Furious, Disney will crank out Star Wars after Star Wars and make tons of money but they all will be basically the exact same movie, just like Fast and Furious… Pure formula and no creativity. Sad.

  43. wizardeyes,

The subject was in relation to HBO probably using the GoT’s trailer to increase ratings for Vinyl.

Nice try on the sarcasm though.

If you don’t like what I have to say then please move on or, if you’re that interested, tell me why Vinyl interests you and why it will get ratings? I just made my case on why I think it wont interest me or get ratings.

Or you can just act like a child with smug unfriendly comments.

  44. Sean C.: I’m more interested in how exactly things shake down in the city, in terms of whether Jaime’s departure is going to work.

The filming spoilers suggest that his march on the Great Sept leads to all-out fighting between the Tyrell soldiers and the Faith Militant. How do we get from there to things apparently being in such shape that he decides to leave for the Riverlands?

You know, I’m not really sure if that’s going to be the case. The

all-out fighting is certainly possible, but if I recall correctly, when the spoilers came out it was something that was initially speculated would happen, and then from whoever was viewing the set in Girona it seemed like it… didn’t. Odd.

    I did see a spoiler/speculation somewhere that

the reason Jaime leaves KL and heads to Riverrun is to collect reinforcements (Lannister soliders, Frey soldiers) because of the mess with the Faith, and ends up having to deal with the unexpected siege at RR as a result. Not sure if it’s true, but it would definitely be a reason for him to leave so quickly.
  45. Arthur,

And don’t get me started on Star Trek. Remember when that was both action-oriented and curious about other civilizations, and not just kiss kiss bang bang?

And not to start a range war here, but as to the poster who appeared to call you a curmudgeon, seems to me you’re just being a critic expressing your opinion.

As for myself, I’m a proud curmudgeon.

  46. ladywolfsbane:
    Selina,

Agreed… the horse budget is good this year… everyone looks more heroic on a horse!

Heh, everyone does look better on a horse.

I finally decided to read the books while I wait for Season 6, and I was surprised to read that so many scenes had the characters on horseback while in the show they were on foot. Off the top of my head I can think of Ned’s confrontation with Jaime in KL, Sansa and the Lannisters were on horses when they were attacked by the KL mob, and the Wildlings were on horseback when they captured Jon.

I guess working with horses is expensive and difficult that they can only use them when the scene really demands it. I think S6 will require a lot of horses.

  47. CatspawAssassin,

    OMG lol…

Looks like they are turning Star Trek into a Guardians of the Galaxy type thing from that new trailer. Don’t get me wrong I liked Guardians but I always thought of Star Trek as the darker, more adult type science fiction but guess not anymore?

As far as the curmudgeon, it comes with the territory with these sites. Many people who disagree with you, try to attack you. It’s nothing new here. I will just ignore it like I usually do…

  48. I just looked at the HBO schedule which shows up to the first week of March now and there’s no specials scheduled like last year’s A Day in the Life.

  49. kit_hepburn,

Oh that is an interesting speculation I haven’t seen before.

I also remember someone saying (or speculating) that there would not be an actual fight in front of the sept, but that the High Sparrow would release Margeary as a gesture of good will. If he does so, also to avoid military escalation, the situation in KL could calm down somewhat afterwards. So with Uncle Kevan and Mace Tyrell in control, Jaime would be free to go to the Riverlands.

For his motivation to go there – just thought of it -, Jaime could get information that the Blackfish is holding Riverrun. Because of his oath to Catelyn he opts to deal with him personally hoping he can convince him to give up without anyone harming any more Tullys.

  50. Tyrion the Myrion:

It wasn’t even that the show was bad or anything but the interest just wasn’t there after the first season for some reason,i wonder if GOT didn’t exist would it have had more success ?

I remember “Cheers” took at least a couple of years until it found a wide audience, and that turned out to be a classic and highly successful show. And I liked Scorcese’s other series “Empire Boardwalk” a lot, at least for the first three seasons before losing interest.

  51. CatspawAssassin,

That trailer left me sitting in front of my laptop for quite some time in utter disbelief! Till today, I don’t really understand what I saw. But I’m sure it had nothing to do with Star Trek. Isn’t Kirk riding a motorcycle and jumping over some exploding spacecraft at some point? No. Just no.

  52. Jack Bauer 24:
27 days until the Vinyl premiere and hopefully the trailer.

so in the span of 27 days we can expect a trailer dropping at any given moment, most likely being on the 7th or 14th. interesting, well lets hope they announce it instead of randomly dropping it. if they announce it, word will spread like wildfire and everyone/almost everyone will plan on or will watch it when it first airs if its the Vinly premier or youtube.

  53. Arthur,

I loved Guardians of the Galaxy and can’t wait for the sequel, though Ronan The Accuser’s battle strategy left a lot to be desired. On second thought, it made absolutely no sense.

But Korath The Pursuer, now there was fun villain, perfectly played by Djimon Hounsou who was obviously having a whale of a time.

  54. Wylie:
    CatspawAssassin,

Writer at the story conference: So, Kirk finds himself on the last planet that manufactures Indian motorcycles…

Producers: We love it!!! But could you make it a Harley for tie-in purposes? It’s not called show business for nothing, kid.

    🙂

  55. King Regent Kevan will send Jaime to end the siege of Riverrun to separate him from Cersei until after her trial. Jaime will not protest. He will welcome some space from the mother of madness.
  56. Rygritte,

Jaime will take one look at how ineffectual his son is at being king and demand a DNA test, followed by getting as far away from King’s Landing as possible..

  57. The teaser was ironic on how accurate it was. What was said at the end, is true, and I suspect many are not going to like it. Doesn’t matter either whether you came to this story by reading first or not. Nobody on the right track. Midway comes…and the light is turned on. But will there be anybody home?
  58. Sean C.,

There will be no fighting. That was just a rumor a day before the scene was actually filmed. There didn’t seem to be any fighting; the crisis will be difused, so Jaime will go on to the next situation in which he’s needed.

  59. dawnzahra:
Jaimie is going to kick some Sparrow ass!

It’s high time the High Sparrow got his, but I’m hoping, or at least suspect, that he’ll be done in by agents of Littlefinger, to gain favor with Cersei after losing most of his support in the north.

It would also be nice to see him kick that spoiled brat Robin Arryn down the Moon Door, but that might be asking for too much. 🙂

  60. CatspawAssassin: It’s high time the High Sparrow got his, but I’m hoping that he’ll be done in by agents of Littlefinger

What dirt could he possibly have on King Turtle?

  61. Matthew The Dragon knight: so in the span of 27 days we can expect a trailer dropping at any given moment, most likely being on the 7th or 14th. interesting, well lets hope they announce it instead of randomly dropping it. if they announce it, word will spread like wildfire and everyone/almost everyone will plan on or will watch it when it first airs if its the Vinly premier or youtube.

Well last year we got the first S5 trailer on 30th January so it may actually happen at the end of this Month or early February.

  62. Rygritte,

Great question. I forgot that most of Baelish’s plans, outlandish as they often are, are based on facts and probabilities, as long as they get him higher up the ladder.

SPOILER: In the last season, he founds Halliburton with Ser Cheney.

  63. DanTheMan: Well last year we got the first S5 trailer on 30th January so it may actually happen at the end of this Month or early February.

I think someone said season 6 finished 6 days later then season 5. so maybe the 6th or 7th at the earliest wouldn’t be that farfetched.

  64. Rygritte: What dirt could he possibly have on King Turtle?

I have no idea, but Littlefinger has to be plotting revenge on the Sparrows for despoiling the centerpiece of his lucrative enterprise.

  65. HotPinkLipstick:
I’m so desperate for news, I’d be happy to know who is doing the S5 commentaries.

I’ve checked out most, if not all, of the seasons at least once from my local library but have never listened to the commentaries. Any favorites to recommend?

  66. Matthew The Dragon knight: I think someone said season 6 finished 6 days later then season 5. so maybe the 6th or 7th at the earliest wouldn’t be that farfetched.

Yeah filming ended December 11th for Season 5 and December 17th for Season 6.

  67. Jack Bauer 24: Yeah filming ended December 11th for Season 5 and December 17th for Season 6.

so a February release date for the trailer is looking more likely.

  68. CatspawAssassin,

I’m answering just from memory, not looking at any list. So, what I remember is this. You can find out who does the commentaries for each episode online.

Commentary by Sophie Turner, Isaac Hempstead-Wright and Maisie Williams is terrible. They are just too young together to provide insight. Avoid.

Listen to any episode where GRRM does the commentary. I think he does one each season. I think he did the Purple Wedding. And Blackwater?

Blackwater may have two commentaries, both good. Any commentary is a commentary with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage together is good.

Nikolaj and Michelle Fairley do some hilarious commentary during an episode where Robb and Talisa have sex. Nikolaj and Gwendoline Christie do the bathtub scene, which is a powerful episode all around.

Listening to D&D and their thoughts on each episode tends to be informative. Actually, any of the directors, especially Michelle McLaren.

From the commentaries, you get fun insight into cast relationships and, especially from the directors, thoughts on the purpose of the scene. A good commentary has a combination of both.
    Kit Harington is surprisingly insightful.

  69. Gods, people, I hate JJTrek (on the Rickman note, Galaxy Quest FTW) and also thought SW7 was fun, but a dumb remake – but this is a different fandom.

I find it funny that I have a completely different view of how I want the Jaime-Cersei scenes to proceed. I mostly want to see Jaime’s reaction to the Walk of Shame. And if he’s not supportive… well, I think this would mean he learned nothing from *his* humbling experience.

  70. Abyss,

    Thank you Abyss!

Jaime looking like a boss. I bet he is pleading with the faith at the request of his son- hopefully this round of diplomacy goes a little better for those he cares for. (I am not holding my breath- any solutions found at this moment will likely be short lived, and just as dependent on the Tyrells actions as they are on Jaime’s)

  71. Sean C.,

    Luka Nieto,

Didn’t we get a spoiler that

Margaery will pretend to join the Faith which will lead the HS to release her voluntarily? That would mean there will be no outright confrontation between the Faith and the Tyrells soldiers. I also seem to remember reading that when Jaime goes to the Sept of Baelor to get Margaery released, even Tommen will be present there with the HS. That he has either actually joined the Faith or is pretending to. But I might be mistaken about Tommen. Does anybody remember this?
  72. ghost of winterfell,

Yep. If you look up the articles here about the last days of the Girona shoot, there are some fairly detailed outlines of the scene in question with tons of set photos and videos as well.

  73. Jaime looks hot as always!

I really hope while he is in Kings Landing for enough episodes, to get his chat with Lancel, Kevan replace Genna e.t.c… Training with Bronn and telling some secrets .. all these are important to understand how wasted he was in his “previous” life.
As for Cercei, he doesn’t have to be only supportive, he has to be supportive but then to finally understand that she brought this to herself and how uncapable she is as leader.
Jaime and Cercei have to be alligniated, in order to have the story move one.

  74. Thank god he’s no longer in Dorne. Placing Jaime there was such a disaster, please put him back on his proper path D & D!

  75. Al Swearengen,

Because Dorne was such a quality story arc in the books wasn’t it ? A shit source material turns into an equally shit adaptation,i know some fanboys will attack me and say that Arianne was such an interesting character,no,she was awful and her motivations didn’t make any logical sense .

  76. CatspawAssassin

Here’s a good drinking game if you’re hoping to die young: listen to a GoT commentary track with actors on it, and knock one back every time they use the words “fantastic” or “amazing”. Unless they’re actually discussing their own experiences of the scene in question, which for any given actor in any given GoT episode can only cover a small proportion of the total, saying nice things about their peers seems to be all they can do. Whereas directors and screenwriters especially are able to bring a broader perspective to bear.

Honourable exception: one of my favourite GoT commentary tracks is Alfie Allen and Gemma Whelan in season two.

  77. Jaimeia going to rescue Margaery from the Militant Faith (I’m.not aure if this ia the correct name in English), on Tommen’s Behalf

  78. Paulo Greyjoy,

    this is my speculation aswell.

Jaime will have a talk with Tommen, like he had with Myrcella, where Tommen convinces him to free Maergery.
My theory is that this will break Jaime and Cersei definetly, Cersei will probaly feel betrayed and Jaime will most likely see the disaster she created and the danger she put Tommen in.

On another point, I expect Jaime to be very focused/involved with Tommen this season. Failing to save his duaghter he will probaly try to keep his son safe.

  79. Maggie: I really hope while he is in Kings Landing for enough episodes, to get his chat with Lancel, Kevan replace Genna e.t.c… Training with Bronn and telling some secrets .. all these are important to understand how wasted he was in his “previous” life.

The two previous seasons already accomplished more than the books did with Jaime’s left-handed training and talking about deep stuff with his swordpartner; which is understansable, since Bronn is way more talkative than Illyn Payne. However, I agree about everything else: Jaime’s extended stay in King’s Landing would allow for an adaptation of his AFFC pre-Riverrun material in King’s Landing and the Riverlands, in particular a talk with an all too honest Lancel (he won’t be happy to learn Cersei doesn’t share his views on incestuous faithfullness), a discussion with Kevan (instead of Genna) about Tywin’s legacy in Tyrion and himself, and the breakdown of his relationship with Cersei. Hopefully they took advantage of that, as well as the show-only opportunity for Jaime to act as a father to Tommen, as he did with Myrcella last season. I have high hopes for Jaime this season, and I look forward to seeing how his encounter with Brienne resolves, which will probably tell book readers what will more or less happen with them and LSH in TWOW.

  80. r-hard:

Walder Frey is the lord of Riverrun. S03E10

    Filming spoilers following:

Apparently he is only Lord on paper, so to say. We got some info that make it clear that Brynden Tully is holding Riverrun near the end of the season and is besieged by Frey and Lannister troops. That was what I was refering to in my post.
  81. having not seen any filming spoilers, I hope Jamie turns on Cersei!
    Fu**K that Bi$^ch!!! hahaha 😐

  82. Mihnea:
Jaime will most likely see the disaster she created

I agree. Last season Lady Oleanna said to her that sometimes rivals have to work with each other and not destroy one another and that Tywin understood that. Cersei obviously didn’t. So I think

Kevan and Jaime will definitely want to revitalize the alliance with the Tyrells in order to re-empower the crown given that the Faith is basically running the city thanks to you know who.

Thinking ahead, I’m still not sure where this season could end in KL. We know that Tommen and Marge basically joined the Sparrows. Will Tommen have to put his own mother on trial? And if so, will the Mountain win the trial for her? I guess Cersei could win one last time before Daeny’s invasion. It would be in tune with the Northern storyline where I hope the Starks win back Winterfell, just before the Walker apocalypse…

  83. Dutch Maester:
    Luka Nieto,

Do you think he’ll be sent to Riverrun by Kevan, or perhaps volunteer to go to get away from her?

I don’t think Kevan will command him to go, but I also don’t believe Jaime will go simply because he feels like it. As I see it, Kevan will bring up that Walder Frey needs their help in his siege, and may even offer Jaime the quest, and he will jump at the chance to get away from Cersei by that point. So a mix of both, really.

  84. Arthur,

I am excited to see Vinyl. There is interesting subject matter to choose from in todays culture and everything that is chosen about something in today’s culture will have some special interest group tearing it apart. Also, HBO wanted to work with Scorsese again and this is what he wanted to do. Also, got the main antagonist from Boardwalk Empire Season 3 as the lead, who is awesome and Olivia Wilde! So yeah, I am pumped to watch anything that Scorsese is apart of!

  85. Arthur,

I think everyone were shocked and surprised by Daisy Ridley. She saved the movie, first time seeing her and she killed it. The media loves them some Rey!

  86. BunBunStark,

Horses are like Direwolves and Dragons. Maybe more so… because they need to act on the day.

I think the most awkward was in season 1 when they ran out of money and had the King, and Renly and Lancel trudging through the woods while talking about “Making the 8”.

Technically you would be on foot hunting boar at the very end… but the King doesn’t trudge! It just looked odd… They should have all been on horses, with a group of hounds, a lavish party of servants, maybe a royal tent and a spread of food? Give me the two Royals on horses, three servants and some barking noises at least.

I forgive season 1 Tyrion getting knocked out before the battle for budget reasons more than that…that was quite inspired!

  87. Wylie:

That trailer left me sitting in front of my laptop for quite some time in utter disbelief! Till today, I don’t really understand what I saw. But I’m sure it had nothing to do with Star Trek. Isn’t Kirk riding a motorcycle and jumping over some exploding spacecraft at some point? No. Just no.

Disastrous is a euphemism when trying to describe the Star Trek Beyond trailer. Though, honestly, Star Trek has been going down the drain ever since DS9 went off the air some 15 years ago. Everything after that was one blandness after another.

JJ didn’t really fuck up anything. He only gave the dying franchise a sparkly high budget paintjob. Essentially, he botoxed and siliconed Trek, gave it new overly white and too large fake teeth, and now the poor thing lumbers around thinking it’s all cool and hip, but it’s actually just a washed-up old guy who chats up young girls in public transport and dreams of better days.

Put him out of his misery and let him die with some semblance of dignity, is my advice.

  88. Arthur,

Yeah, cause calling someone else’s behavior out is not smug at all. Take the high road.

Yes, HBO is trying to raise ratings by putting the first GoT trailer on Vinyl’s opening night. Every network on TV does that when they can. So you can stop sounding like you have some profound insight. That is standard business. People typically don’t risk watching new shows. More shows get cancelled after one season then get renewed so a network has to entice viewership, to entice word of mouth, to increase popularity. You make it sound like HBO’s business practices are deceiving us like a Wal-Mart quality guarantee.

Most people are interested in it because Scorsese it attached to the project. Yes, HBO is thinking Mick Jagger will have some pull, get older viewers (WHICH HBO IS STARTING TO LACK) hence more practical business decisions. Also, Jagger and Scorsese have worked together for years on this TV show. Just hasn’t been able to get it off the ground. Does that mean it will be superb because there is years of work behind it, NO. Just letting you know HBO didn’t just throw Jagger’s name behind it, he is behind it. But the average person interested in this show is interested because Scorsese is doing it. Some are interested in Bobby Cannavale in the lead (won best supporting Emmy as Antogonist in Boardwalk Season 3) and sexy as hell Olivia Wilde. That helps.

Lastly, you commented on it being full of crap stuff like drugs, mob, and sex. You are probably right. A lot of HBO stuff is like that. Actually ALOT of HBO stuff is like that. They continue to clean-up each year with awards and nominations. HBO has the capabilities to put such things in their shows without it effecting quality. You sound like you have no idea what you are talking about, just whining about how you don’t understand why others are interested in watching this new show. Calling other people out for their responses to you. I have gone through this thread and as an innocent bystander your comments are the ones that come off as brash and rude. probably why someone responds to you in a somewhat similar manner, and of course you have to respond back with your same style which continues the circle. I am sure you will respond to this. Asking why I am attacking you, that is not fair. Calling me a hypocrit for saying take the high road and not doing it myself. Well I am not naïve to the fact that we are all hypocrits and well sometimes people need to be told to shut the hell up every once and awhile. Whether you do that or not is up to you.

  89. Arthur,

I am. I am excited to see Vinyl. I want to see if it was good enough to bump GoT’s by a few weeks as well. But it is set in a time that I know well. It is co-produced by Mick Jagger. And I expect the music to really be good. The lead is the guy who was in the taco truck in The Station Agent, can’t wait to see him again. So yeah. I am looking forward to it. And it is something to watch while waiting for our beloved GoT’s. What is so wrong with Mick Jagger? *shrugs*

And you may be the only person on the planet who didn’t like Star Wars. Really? Did you just wake up on the grumpy side of the bed this morning? 🙂 Hey it is your opinion and most everyone has one.

I don’t watch many HBO or other cable channels series, in fact other than GoT’s, none. But Vinyl has got me interested. I am looking forward to seeing something to bridge the time for GoT’s and I am HOPEFUL that it is good.

  90. Deesensfan:
    Pigeon,

    is that a tease

    makes me nervous

It’s an interesting choice of words, isn’t it? I know Maisie has a history of messing with reporters though, so that could really be all it is. Troublemaker. LOL.

  91. Pigeon,

Hmmm. Interesting comment from Maisie. A twist, but she can’t use the term alive.

To me that says he’s a WW. Oh noes 🙁 But then what about that leaked picture with M. Sapochnik? Looked pretty human there. The mystery continues….

  92. Mr Fixit,

Hilarious analogy! I totally agree. I did a rewatch of TNG last year and was impressed by how good they were at adressing many very relevant real life issues, discussing them from several perspectives and like in real life not always solving them just so the episode could be wrapped up nicely. Oh and of course Picard 🙂

  93. Jack Bauer 24,

Congratulations to Maisie, very well deserved. I was especially impressed by her “throwing away all her belongings but keeping needle in the end” scene in S5.

  94. Maisie said “I loved shooting this series”. Referring to GoT’s. Loved? Why past tense?

Someone up-thread talked about Guardians of the Galaxy. I was prepared to be cynical of the movie, but the opening with Chris Pratt dancing to “Come and Get Your Love” was priceless and I was hooked. But the standout was something that I missed until I saw the credits and was like…Nooooooo. Rocket Raccoon STOLE the movie for me and that, surprisingly, was the voice of Bradley Cooper. I can’t wait for the next movie and see what music the dead mom left for him this time and find out who his father is!! 😀

On topic. I am most interested to see what happens when:

Jaime shows up with a dead Myrcella and confronts Cersie about it. I have a feeling Cersie is going to drop her blob and lay into Jaime hard and heavy. I think that will be the lick that killed Slick. That is when he determines to know Tommen more and I agree that on the request of Tommen, he confronts the FM to sue for Margaery’s release, then cuts out of town to the RL hopefully to meet up again with Brienne altho that may wait for season 7.

Either way I am very excited and now that we are down to double digits…I can actually feel it getting closer and closer.

  95. JCDavis: Maisie said “I loved shooting this series”. Referring to GoT’s. Loved? Why past tense?

“Series” is how British people refer to “seasons”. She was saying she loved filming this season, not the whole show.

    Also, importantly:

The meeting between Jaime and Brienne that you expect is confirmed for this season. She looks for Jaime at Riverrun. My guess is she is there at Sansa’s behest, so she basically takes LSH’s place. I expect that part of TWOW to be adapted this season, since this encounter between Jaime and Brienne happens in episode 7 and/or 8; there has to be something after that.
  96. Nerd Stark:
I am seriously fed up with petty politics of KL, Cersei, Jamie, Tyrells, etc. etc. Since Joffery died the whole KL dynamics especially on the show have been a sheer disappointment and bore..and now when Tyrion is outta there these scenes are intolerable..
Show us more of North, CoTF, Jon, Bran already!!

Personally, I love Cersei’s downwards spiral into madness. I’m not saying I’m a fan of her, but nearly every dialogue she has is golden, whether it be with Kevan, Lancel, Margaery, Olenna or the High Sparrow she literally hits everything out of the park.

Matthew The Dragon knight: I have a bit of an obsession with Valyrian Steel XD

After last season, who doesn’t? I mean it’s clear that the majority of Valyrian steel needs to haul its ass up North. Stuff like Sam sneaking Heartsbane with him after visiting home, Lyn Corbray+Lady Forlorn going North with LF, or being sent to the Wall for some reason, though Lyn is not in the show, but it’s more of a book thing. Red Rain owned by Dunstan Drumm could go to Yara/Theon and back North or something, as the owners’ not in Euron’s camp anymore (signified by talking to Rodrik Harlaw) after their first win, which could signify allegiance to YarAsha. Coincidentally, Rodrik Harlaw’s heir also wields a Valyrian sword called Nightfall. So YarAsha could bring two Valyrian swords. Dark Sister could be with Bloodraven, while Blackfyre could be with fAegon with no reason to go North with it, and that’s about all the known Valyrian swords that aren’t lost. Unless Gerion Lannister returns with Brightroar.. -.- But this is mostly a book discussion as at least half of these characters don’t exist in the show (yet).

    cosca:
    Nymeria Warrior Queen,
Fair enough Nymeria, I do think Bran’s story got interesting in Season 4/ADWD. But before that? A lot of walking and nothing.

I think there are some redeeming qualities to Bran in S2 and S3. In S2, he basically learns what war is like, but also what it means to rule fairly by Maester Luwin. In S3 he learns to awaken his abilities. Sure, it’s not much, but nobody would expect Bran to have a flashy storyline if there’s nothing flashy for him in the books either. I mean the battle at the mill where he temporarily wargs Hodor and the wolves and sees Jon is just about as exciting as it gets. The show added two more fights. What’s there to complain?

    Arthur:
I have no doubt HBO will announce the first GoT’s trailer either right before or right after Vinyl’s premier so they can fake boast Vinyl’s ratings. Same thing they did with True Detective season 1 (But that ended up being a good series too).

Maybe I am just feeling sour…

You do sound sour, but fair enough.. One could say that about 2011 as well, did the world really need GoT at that time?

  97. I gotta say, those (very) brief snippets make me unreasonably happy. I think it may be mostly because just the facial expression on Jamie somehow makes me think that one of his character development points I liked a lot in the books looks like it will be incorporated here:

The transition from brash and cocky young swordsman to maimed and emotionally damaged man to a shrewd (and yes even a bit ruthless) negotiator just rang right with me in the books. [/ spoiler]

I know its a lot to read into a second of two clip but somehow I just smiled she I saw that

  98. Abyss,

Thank you! I miss the show so much that I can stare at your Jaime gif. for long time, pretending that season 6 has just begun.

  99. H.Stark:
Toby Sebastian confirms he is coming back

Mad, Gory, Bloody, and as faced paced as ever ? 🙂
Music to my ears, I wonder what’s going to happen. Since he only knows what’s happening with his character.

  100. YgritTe,

I suppose they are not allowed to say anything clear. And Maisie just loved to give a hint of mystery. Don’t worry, imo Jon isn’t going to change that much!

  101. We are all so starved for the show that any little bit makes us happy and has as a result lots of comments. I was very glad to see Jaime. At least this time we know for sure he’s riding a horse, remember the Bran picture speculations: “Is it a horse? A mule? A donkey?”

  102. Wylie,

Yeah, I don’t like to be that guy that insists that “in my days they knew how to…”, but, hey, sometimes it’s true. Trek used to be about something, it had a message and a point. That’s what made it endure all these 50 years. It’s embarrassing to see what it’s about these days. Then again, I have to repeat that Abrams isn’t really at fault here. The Tywin-like decomposition of its rotten corpse has been underway for a long long time, going back all the way to the Berman-Braga years.

  103. Tyrion the Myrion,

The problem with the prequels was apart from the obvious bits is that had no focus on story. It was instead all focused on the effects and not performance and story. (Eg. Christopher Lee “where do I look in this scene”. Lucas “don’t worry we’ll move your eyes in post” A lot of plot yes but no emotion other than on the surface. Those love scenes by the lacks gave to be the worst romantic scenes ever written. In fact they make parodies of love scenes look good. The new film was good because it told a story and in returning to a new hope gave the audience hope that wouldn’t have to watch a bunch more shit films.

  104. Best character in the show IMO. Hope they give him more to do that the mess that was Dorne (which I must give props to him and Bronn for making it watchable). Still wondering if that line dropped about his dyslexia early in the show will mean he regains some of his sword fighting ability?

  105. r-hard,

And i can clearly imagine that they’ll do this conversation on the show between Doran and Trystane, after Doran says to his son that he must get over on Myrcella’s death because whatever he does, she’s dead. BUT…Doran will gives him a much more important role.

    This:

”-You must bring to Dorne what our hearts desire.
    -What is our heart’s desire?
    -Vengeance. Justice. Fire and blood.”

It would be an awesome dornish line/scene finally.

  106. r-hard:

    Vengeance. Justice. Fire and blood.”

It would be an awesome dornish line/scene finally.

I must admit I could never really understand why so many people think that line is awesome. To me, it perfectly encapsulates so much of FeastDance Dornish plot: trashy and pulpy trying to look cool.

  107. Mr Fixit: I must admit I could never really understand why so many people think that line is awesome. To me, it perfectly encapsulates so much of FeastDance Dornish plot: trashy and pulpy trying to look cool.

Doran’s line is quite pulpy… just as so much of ASOIAF, not just in AFFC or ADWD. It’s an uncomfortable truth for some. However, there’s nothing wrong with pulpy! There are some who claim to only enjoy respectable high art, so they must convince themselves ASOIAF isn’t pulpy at all… well, they’re kidding themselves.

You’re right about AFFC and ADWD (especially AFFC), but I’d tell you to re-read AGOT. There’s quite a few pulpy lines in there too. ASOS probably has the least. Myself, I enjoy all of it; including the many, MANY trashy, pulpy, cool-for-the-sake-of-cool cliffhanger-y lines and scenes that abound in the series.

In a way, it’s quite funny that Game of Thrones has been accused as a dumbed-down adaptation by some book readers, because at least in this respect, it’s way subtler: it has substantially toned down ASOIAF’s more pulpy elements —the cheesy “cool” lines, the neverending cliffhangers, etc. If anything, Game of Thrones isn’t tonally dummed down; it’s blander. Nothing wrong with that either.

  108. I just want to comment something about the Ramsay glimpse in the snow with Bolton’s banners.

    http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03519/ramsay-new_3519773b.jpg

The guy behind him looks like Dean S. Jagger, http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/gameofthrones/images/1/14/Dean_Jagger.png/revision/latest?cb=20151126142744 , playing Smalljon Umber. So this could basically showing Umbers are siding with Boltons in the Battle for the North. That could lead to terrible consequences for Rickon and Osha since they are supossed to be with them. Just speculation, I’m not even sure that guy is Jagger.
  109. Mr Fixit,

Exactly and how ridiculous that line Particularly when all the enemies of his are dead …
And the same fire and blood is hated if say someone like dany says ..
If any of lines to be considered it must be of what Ellaria said in the books about revenge …

  110. Tyrion the Myrion,

You do realize that when adapting material they have the luxury of cutting out all the weak ideas and improving upon the arc. And the fact of the matter is D & D thought they knew better and did a piss poor job.

Dorne might be divisive among book fans but it’s sure as hell a lot better than the garbage we witnessed in Season 5.

But what does it matter, anything negative I say is deemed as trolling. I just call it like I see it, the Dorne we got on the show was extremely disappointing. Nothing about that arc benefited or enhanced Jaime’s story. It was a mistake to send him there. And the same could be said of Bronn, he probably got the worse end of the stick. One flash of a breast and suddenly he’s infatuated, what kind of writing is that? At least Arianne actually went out of her way to seduce Oakheart, Bronn came across like a teenager who’d never even encountered a woman before.

  111. Luka Nieto,

Huh, I haven’t read the books in a long time, but you make an interesting observation. Can’t say I noticed too much pulp, but I’ll keep an eye out during the next re-read.

  112. I think nobody until now cared to ask whether Toby would return.. I think most of us thought he was a bit of a twat, that only got his role because he was in a movie with Sophie, but he genuinely sounds like a nice bloke here.

Him asking to play a psycho, or a funny person, just screamed Joker to me.. He definitely has some shades of dark-haired Heath Ledger.. just smaller.. xD

  113. nicnavfer,

I don’t think that’s him. It’s also worth remembering the Umbers have a foot in each camp with the Great Jon held hostage by the Frey’s, like the Mandeley’s So it wouldn’t be so strange to see them marching with the Boltons while beating the drums of war for the other side at the same time.

  114. Al Swearengen,

The Dorne journey in the series develops Jamie’s arch not that of Sunspear. It will humanise him setting him up for the Campaigm in Riverrun and make him feel the futility of war and its cost even more. He’s ripe for joining Jon in battle with the white walkers.
As for Dorne I do not know where that’s going , perhaps there will be a tie in with Cersei’s trial aswell as Dany. Perhaps Dorne will just fall off into the sea. Then again Dorne is not much better in the books.

  115. Ok, I have a theory.

When the Battle of the Bastards is over, Rickon is Warden of the North. Littlefinger is not happy and plans the murder of Rickon with Ramsey who was escaped.

Meanwhile Littlefinger convinced Jon, Rickon that he marries Sansa. After the Wedding, not directly I think, Rickon is killed. Littlefinger will be ruler in the North. (He is not giving Sansa a hard time. He has a Stark on his side, so many houses accept his leadership.

What he don’t know, Brann and Hodor are almost at Winterfell. And Brann knows Littlefingers murder of Rickon. (A vision, trees, raven). When Brann arrives in Winterfell, he is Warden of the North. Littlefinger will be executed.

What do you think of the story? (Sorry for my English.

    Ps: I want a trailer.

  116. Mr Fixit:
    Luka Nieto,

Huh, I haven’t read the books in a long time, but you make an interesting observation. Can’t say I noticed too much pulp, but I’ll keep an eye out during the next re-read.

Don’t get me wrong, ASOIAF doesn’t get pulpier than AFFC and ADWD —they both have a thing for the POV narration repeating “cool” one-liners ad nauseam; and in ADWD half the chapters seem to end in a fake-out cliffhanger. I’m just saying it doesn’t come out of nowhere, and that there are traces of a pulpier, generic fantasy origin in AGOT: lots of characters doing and saying seemingly “cool” things that by the time of ASOS and the TV adaptation seem completely out of character. Remember when Jon met Tyrion in the books? In the show he simply walked into the scene… for AGOT, that wasn’t cool enough. This dwarf, known for his intelligence but not his physical prowess (in fact, we later learn he has trouble with his legs), literally lept into the scene, doing a somersault. That’s the kind of thing one forgets, but I swear to you, there’s plenty of that kind of thing in AGOT, though it vanished throughout the following two novels, only to come back pulpier than ever in AFFC and ADWD.

  117. zod:
Here’s the article I wanted to point to, but I can’t edit my first post for some reason : https://watchersonthewall.com/major-kings-landing-season-6-spoilers-jeremy-podeswa-and-pilou-asbaek-interviewed/

I consider this the biggest spoiler of the pre-season scouting that has been going on around here, especially because it seems like something that could fit into TWOW. It’s unexpected but somehow it seems to fit, and I can see all sorts of directions D&D and GRRM could go with it. Pretty much everything else that has been figured out about S6 so far is either AFFC/ADWD leftovers or predictable extensions thereof, or is something that seems to hard to connect to the books and is likely only loosely connected to TWOW material.

  118. I love how the horsie’s head movement is in perfect synchrony with Jaime.:)

Interesting how the kingsguard armour has the stag’s horns imprinted on the shoulders and around the swords of the breast plate, but the Targaryen element is still very present in form of dragon scales covering the arms and adorning the horse. You’d think that after Robbert got to the throne he’d get rid of any Targ symbols.

  119. Ines,

I think those as supposed to be fish scales. I remember hearing a quote from one of the designers somewhere saying that because KL is surrounded by water, presumably there’s a lot of fish. So with that in mind they incorporated that into the armor. I might be wrong so don’t quote me on that. Armor looks good either way.

  120. Luka Nieto,

Yeah, that was cringe-y. I read somewhere that GRRM regrets writing that. Also, he regrets making the dagger that was used to try to kill Bran Valyrian steel, since they are supposed to be rare.
The show has mostly avoided using any such lines, except with Dany. All the “cool” one liners seem to be reserved for her.

  121. ghost of winterfell: The show has mostly avoided using any such lines, except with Dany. All the “cool” one liners seem to be reserved for her.

True. Still, the “Break the wheel” speech last season was pretty good in context, in my opinion. The fact that she included the Targaryens in the metaphorical wheel says a lot; this was of course excluded in the trailer.

  122. Luka Nieto,

That speech was great. It was a perfect metaphore for the current situation in Westeros.
Also it showed a lot of what Dany thinks, especially, like you said, when she included her own house.

  123. Yeah, “Break the wheel” was okay, especially if she actually intends to act on it in the future, that is take the power away from the feudal Lords. Maybe we will get better clarity on her intentions in the next season. But some of her S4 lines actually turned me off her character. “I will do what queens do, I will ruuule” or “I will answer injustice with justice”. The thing is, some of her lines seem to be written for the trailers and they sound pretty jarring when you see the actual scene.

  124. Al Swearengen,

Blah, blah, blah, book purism, blah, blah. Sorry but YOU are a troll and everything you have posted in the past is evidence for this,i don’t want to go and look for all your posts because unlike you i actually have a life ,just because you are an old poster doesn’t mean i have to respect you .

  125. ghost of winterfell,

I know many people dislike Dany’s lines (justice/injustice, break the wheel, we are not men, etc…), but I actually like them. For all her accomplishments and undeniable cunning, in some ways she is still a naive girl that tends to oversimplify things and has a black&white morality system. She likes her big pronouncements and dramatic gestures; that’s just who she is.

  126. Tyrion the Myrion,

I don’t think he’s a troll. But I am not facetious when I say that I worry about him, honestly. There’s so much negativity and pessimism in his posts; in fact, I can’t spot anything else: he seems to exclusively post about the things that bother him, including things we haven’t seen yet. It’s fine to be fearful, if one believe as he does that D&D haven’t been doing a great job, but Al Swearengen always seems to be preemtively disappointed! I assume he still enjoys the show somewhat, or else he wouldn’t watch it, but I truly don’t understand why he only talks about the elements he dislikes. As far as I’ve seen, he never comments on what he enjoy in an episode. Just the bad stuff.

Personally, I’ve only acted that way, focusing exclusively on the negative and the pessimistic, when I’ve had my worsts bouts of depression. Who knows, maybe he’s just grumpy. Either way, I don’t think he’s a troll; yet I also believe that so much negativity is not good for him or for any of us.

  127. Al Swearengen,

Actually, I think Jaime’s trip to Dorne and what happened with Myrcella will inform and influence some of what he does moving forward, especially in regards to Tommen.

As far as not including Arianne, I think that’s the best decision they made in terms of the Dornish storyline. Her inclusion, imo, would have added absolutely nothing. Had she been portrayed as she was in the books, some people would have been screaming about the nudity, sex, and the insufferable misogyny of D&D (female character who uses her lady-bits instead of her brain to get what she wants, which pretty much boils down to screwing over daddy ’cause she thinks he’s trying to cut her out of her inheritance), and if they didn’t portray her as she was in the books, some people would have been screaming character assassination. Of the many characters I wish could have been included throughout the seasons and were not, she is not one of them.

  128. Tyrion the Myrion,

If anything it’s you who’s the one who is trolling. Plenty of people on here have bothered to reply my criticisms of the show with rational, valid, concise points that make me second guess my issues with the show. You on the other hand seem to get all bent out of shape and end up having your brain cells melt out of your ears.

  129. Luka Nieto,

My disappointment from the show just stems out of the love and passion I have for that series. I’ve witnessed how great this show can be in past seasons, so I get frustrated when I see issues and problems that bring down the quality. I’ll make a better effort from here on out to me more positive.

It’s not like I want the show to fail. Nothing would please me more than for Season 6 to knock my socks off. And I cannot freaking wait to see Euron Greyjoy on our screens 😀

  130. Al Swearengen: I’ll make a better effort from here on out to me more positive.

It’s not like everyone wants for you to force a smile or anything. At least, I don’t. I’d just welcome more diverse comments from you. Happy to hear you’ll make an effort to give us the full range of your opinion, the good and the bad.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Euron pans out, too 🙂

  131. OT:
And the price for the most ugly cover of an DVD/BD-box goes to…. Germany, it’s Germany by a country mile! – I’m not even joking, that’s the best they could come up with for the for Limited Edition?!

  132. Anyone else notice, that his Kingguard Armor has gone from a shinny, elegant, Silver and gold, to what looks like a sh*t smeared bronze look?

  133. Mr Fixit,

That’s when they changed the armors from fake ones to the real thing. That’s why it’s different.

Anyway I like the design/colours they feel more real. The older ones where way too bright.
