The second episode (out of six) of the Telltale’s game series, entited “The Lost Lords” is coming out today, in case you needed a reminder (Xbox players will have to wait for tomorrow, and people playing on tablets a day longer). We wrote about this latest installment when the release date was first announced in January.
Here is the full launch trailer for today.
Since there has been no special announcement about the time this second episode dowload becomes available, we can assume it’s going live on Steam in a couple of hours from now.
Have fun playing! I won’t mind another two hours of a good story and tense moments.
Aw, crap! I have a date with the wife tonight! Hmmm… marriage maintenance, or GoT??? Decisions, decisions…..
Unfortunetely I can’t play it untill tomorrow. Argh, I’ll have to try and avoid spoilers.
I just played the first episode last night. The sluggish controls really bug me, and caused me to die a few times, but I like the story so I’ll keep on keepin’ on.
I just played like 5 times and I have to ask.
I hate to be a downer, but this game is so underwhelming. The Forrester’s mirror the Starks in a pathetically boring way, the graphics and controls are sloppy, and, most importantly, your decisions have little effect on the responses by the other characters. I do enjoy the music, the voice acting by the shows stars (some of the made up characters are annoying-Ethans voice is grating), and the two tense confrontations with Cersei and Ramsay. Other than that, the game couldn’t hold my interest and it took me weeks to want to finish it.
At this point I am going to continue just beacuse I am hoping for some full frontal cartoon schlongs.
goodkinghenry,
WELP, I know how I’m wasting time tonight.
I am still holding out that our decisions will have more impact in later episodes, starting now. I’ve heard good and bad things about the Walking Dead games, so this gave Telltale the opportunity to learn from past mistakes in that regard. I understand the necessity to keep the first Episode’s ending the same for sake of storyline. Can you imagine how many alternate versions Telltale would have to author in order to accommodate several endings just in Episode 1?
This impact may not be very cumbersome in Episode 2, but further down the line it would be an unrealistic expectation to hold Telltale to. (Two or three alt endings would be somewhat easy to work with, no? I’m holding out, maybe in vain). They have to fit the show canon, too, so I’m eager to see how that comes into play.
Somewhat OT: In the released Season 5 set photos last week, does anyone know if any of Margaery’s handmaidens is Mira? How cool would that be if she ended up in the show, even if she is quickly named off-handedly by a Tyrell once and then left alone? They have already brought in the show actors into the game… it would be neat if they did it the other way around.
EDIT: Is it creepy that I’m sort of into Asher? Heeeey.
Rygar,
I’m not quite as down on it as you are, but it probably helps that my best friend and I made a thing of passing the PS4 controller back and forth between scenes… and between beers. I didn’t feel compelled to replay the first episode more than just the once, which was effectively a co-op endeavor to begin with.
Cersei and Ramsay are the show-stealers, but I really kinda like the perspectives as well. I’m interested to see where things are headed, but between my initial reaction to Episode I (“not bad”) and IGN’s review of Episode II (it’s essentially borderline-solid in their eyes, and they expressed disappointment in what was one of Episode I’s pivotal choices seemingly being glazed-over) I’m in no rush. I’ll get it next week. And I’ll bring my friend over again when I do.
Some of those animations, though. When the lad flees deeper into the woods to escape Frey soldiers at the end of the first scene, he twirls around slowly and “runs” in such a fashion as to be absolutely comedic and entirely tension-shattering. We practically snorted beer everywhere when it happened.
Phyllis Ashley,
Eh, I’ve fancied one or two Bioware characters in my day, not gonna lie. Mass Effect and Dragon Age are just too damn well-written and well-acted for me not to have done so. So you thinking Asher’s pixels are kinda hot isn’t any stranger than my feeling similarly toward Morrigan’s, and Miranda’s. 😛
They certainly mirror the Starks in many ways. One could argue it’s a cultural thing and I think I can come up with some examples:
Lord Forrester married a Southron lady (but really, how many other noble Houses are in the North? Realistically, the likelihood of pairing off a Northern Lord with a someone from the South is high; I’m thinking Robb and Margaery probably would have been a decent pair given different circumstances);
They have a bunch of kids. But so does a number of other Houses.
Young Lord steps up in his Father’s place. Okay, well, we are at war, so it happens.
Young Lady in the Capitol. The way Mira ended up in King’s Landing was happenstance. She was not betrothed to the King, or a Lord, but rather was originally a handmaiden in Highgarden and moved when Margaery did. Her presence also gives the game player the requisite POV in King’s Landing.
Okay, so let’s sorta match things up?
Lord Gregor the Good/Lord Eddard
Lady Elissa Forrester/Catelyn Stark, Southron Lady married to a Northern Lord.
Rodrik Forrester/Robb?
Asher Forrester/ ???
Mira Forrester/Sansa
Ethan Forrester/Bran?
Talia Forrester/Arya? PFFT SHE WISHES SHE WERE THAT COOL
Ryon Forrester/Rickon minus the smashing walnuts.
Frankly, it was very easy for Telltale to create a family that players can become invested in; they do remind people of the Starks, and that’s important. But I think the Forresters are unique enough to keep the story interesting. I’m excited for more.
The game has confirmed one thing
I enjoyed the first one. I enjoyed much more The Walking Dead and the Bordeland installments, however.
And I’m having a hard time finishing The Wolf Among Us though…mb ’cause I have the PS3 version of that one
Phyllis Ashley,
If you look at some of the season 5 stills you’ll see a girl in the background who has the same hair as Mira. Certainly doesn’t confirm anything but I like to think this was deliberate.
I’ve had the same thoughts about Lara Croft for about 10 years, so no, you’re fine 🙂
Bronn For King,
I’m still pretty keen on Jessica Rabbit, myself.
People should maybe play more videogames too see how hard choices in games are. The point isnt that you need a story, its just that you choose how to tailor it.
I agree making choices in games is hard, half of the time I press the wrong one because of short time/clunky mechanics forcing me to choose one I do not want to take (because hte one I want to take is locked out by whatever -,-‘) so agree
How can I download episode 2? I already purchased the whole season pass and I think I may have exited the option of downloading the next episode once my computer turned on. How can I download it now?
Aw, I’ll have to wait another week or so to play it. Not usually a gamer and I wasn’t blown away by the first installment, but it’s pretty pleasant overall.
While the graphics aren’t terrific, the faces actually do well in conveying emotions. Especially Gareds. However, I can’t for the life of me figure out
Please help?
I definitely need a story in order to be remotely interested in any game. Not much of a gamer, anyway, though.
Tailoring that story is super-cool, so long as presentation doesn’t suffer for it. Telltale is pretty decent in that regard. I just wish the animations weren’t so odd.
This was an alright episode. Fairly predictable stuff though, and mostly just ground-building for later episodes. One hopes.
I do have to agree with the people who say it’s far too much like the show/book in terms of the plot lines. Almost annoyingly so. And that’s the biggest complaint I have on it.
Good guy, dumpy low-birth boy gets sent to the Wall.
Exiled person in Essos endlessly meandering about before making their “big comeback” which will probably never happen.
Young woman in KL court playing at “intrigue.”
Young boy having to become Lord.
Southern matriarch loses husband and is traumatized with protecting kids.
It’s frustrating that with how big this world is, they choose to fall back to old places, old characters and old tropes.
Half the people in this game are annoyingly good looking. Which pisses me off cause the graphics are so cheap. But yeah. Dem Forresters got it goin’ on.
I’d harvest that ironwood if you kno’ whut ah mean.
Had to go out and run errands, so I start the download so it will be done when I return.
Start up the PS3 for some GOT fun, find out my son deleted the first episode. To play ep. 2 you need ep. 1.
My redownload will take 90 min.
WTF!
Finished Episode 2 last night…
King’s Landing effing BLOWWWWWS ALL THE TIME.
And, perhaps this is premature: I feel as if some of the decisions I made are likely to have huge ramifications later. At the end of each episode they provide a stats list of some of the major “choices” made — no spoilers here, but there was one bit where you had to convince someone to do something, AND I DID IT, and only like 30% of other players were able to do that and it made me proud. Another decision I immediately regretted, and I wasn’t thinking clearly or fast enough or else I would have exited the game without saving that scene and re-do. And I was KILLIN’ IT before all that, so oops. Just like people make mistakes in real life, I guess.
Episode 2 spoiler, sort of:
I’m excited for the next one. I might have teared up at the end of Ep 2.
goodkinghenry,
Nope.
I’m kind of glad
Phyllis Ashley,
I teared up too, and I
Tried to play the android version on my note 10.1 2014 edition. The video is very choppy and controls are sluggish. I can’t get past the first battle. The first game ran perfectly
Oh boy, that was intense.
“He was good at everything” hit me unexpectedly hard. Those goddamn snowflakes melting in his hair.
