Mark Gatiss returning for Game of Thrones season 5

gatissEntertainment Weekly reports that Mark Gatiss will return in Game of Thrones season 5.

Viewers will remember Gatiss as Tycho Nestoris, the Iron Bank representative who tentatively hedged his bets with Stannis last season.

Gatiss is expected to return to the Game of Thrones set in Croatia next week to begin filming.

Cian: The Croatian aspect of this news is perhaps the most interesting. It looks as though Nestoris could possibly be taking on the role of Noho Dimittis from A Feast for Crows.

  1. I wonder if this means he’ll appear in KL or in Braavos. Both will be shooting in Croatia after all. Mayhaps both?

  2. Greenjones,

    Well since we know that

Cersei will be getting pressure from the Iron Bank

so I’m betting we’ll see him there. I can’t imagine they’d have a scene in Braavos that doesn’t have at least one of the major POV characters but who? I think they’ll have him and Cersei in a scene and that I can’t wait to see. All those clever verbal claws coming out.

  3. Great news! He was good with what little we saw of him, hope for more this time.

James also mentions that the scene that was having a bit of religious trouble has long since found an alternative shooting location so all is well again 🙂

  4. Greenjones,

If he’s filming next week then he isn’t filming in Dubrovnik (filming there starts later on IIRC), which means he’s likely filming in Braavos (since they’re filming in the Split region first). Maybe he’ll shoot in Dubrovnik as well, we’ll see I guess.
  5. Nice to have him back. He better not let it stand in the way of his work for Sherlock though :p The world needs more more Sherlock!

  6. jentario,

    That’s what I’d thought.

If he meets with Cersei then I think they’d shoot that in Belfast anyways (in the Paint Hall).
  7. I was slightly concerned they wouldn’t be able to shoehorn him in again (his schedule always seems ridiculously busy), but I’m glad they were able to! I hope we get more than one scene with him this season, but hey.

  8. Starting to think Braavos is gonna be another heavily featured region this season along with Dorne 😀

  9. SPOILER

I think is possible that one of the reasons (if they cut or not Oldtown) Sam and Aemon go to Braavos is to get loans of the Iron Bank for the Night’s Watch. Tycho could appear in a Sam’s scene which would be cool
  10. clk,

They will NOT cut Sam’s journey. That is quite sure since they anounced they are searching for 2 actors to play thieves who will interact with two main characters. It is obvious that they mean Sam and Arya.
  11. jentario,

I know it’s wishful thinking but that looks like it could be for the Iron Islands. I don’t really know what other location on the show it could be.

  12. I love how the writers basically explained this: so many people were excited about Tycho in Season 4 in and of itself but…that was really just there because they felt such a major character needed to be introduced earlier in the story. So we ain’t seen nothing yet…..

  13. Quite enjoyed Tycho wandering around the North in the books!

Reminds me that it’s been too long since I’ve watched ‘The League of Gentlemen’ 🙂

  14. Great news! I was hoping that Mark Gatiss would be able to find the time to return this season. He was great in his one scene in Season 4, and the Iron Bank is only going to become more significant going forward.

This actually makes a lot of sense since Stannis already has an army from the Iron Bank so Tycho is less likely to be searching at the Wall for him, and also makes Sam’s journey more relevant as the survival of the Wall will depend on it
  16. Where is that guy who claimed to have informations on season 5? I wanna know about Greyjoys and

    the Battle of Winterfell.
  17. Are we not using spoiler tags anymore? seems like I can spy quite a few that don’t have to do with Tycho…

  18. Tobias Menzies did an interview with Vulture and talked about Game of Thrones and how he would like to return as Edmure. Second part is kind of a spoiler if they decide to do it, so I went ahead and tagged it.

They won’t. I mean, we didn’t even see you last season on Game of Thrones.
Yeah, it would be overkill! [Laughs.] I know David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] are very fond of the character, and they may drag him back at some point, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back in some capacity. And it would be fun to go back and reprise Edmure. He was a little bit different from the other characters. A little buffoonish. He was fun. I enjoyed my time with them.

Edit: Nevermind I couldn’t get the spoilers tag to work, the rest of the interview is here.

  19. This is a stretch…. But if they are definitely filming his scenes in split, aka Braavos, is there a chance they are either expanding his storyline, or moving off/beyond book? I’m thinking the introduction of possible deeper level connections between

IB and HoBaW/faceless men, perhaps even some players over in westeros

I also like the idea of a

    Sam/Aemon plea
  20. Off Topic:
Is there any reason for the “You may also like”-section on pages like “About Us“? I don’t think it looks very good and frankly, I don’t see the point of it. It should be deleted, imo.

  21. Greenjones,

They were there yesterday as well. It’s near Shane’s Castle, so I think that’s where they’re filming (they already filmed there a couple of weeks ago IIRC).

  22. It looks as though Nestoris could possibly be taking on the role of Noho Dimittis from A Feast for Crows.

Economy of character. You really only need one Iron Bank representative that matters. So even if

we see him in Braavos, we’d be likely to see him in King’s Landing as well, or the Wall, too, if Jon’s borrowings are included as well.
  23. I would like to see Lancel again. It’s even possible that you put him on the Quiet Isle, having taken a vow of silence, and have Brienne, and later Jaime, run into him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Siege at Riverrun deleted entirely (the whole point of that, other than a great Jaime/Blackfish conversation, seemed to be to get the Blackfish on the run again, and he’s already on the run).

It’s a minor character, but I’d also hope they bring back Ian Gelder as Kevan Lannister.

  24. Greatjon of Slumber,

I’d be glad if they keep

the bank’s intervention in KL in whichever way. Their pressure pushes Cersei to make her deal with the clergy, with all the interesting consequences.
  25. Greatjon of Slumber,

I think it would make more sense for Lancel

to take the role of the Kettlebacks in Cersei’s trial. Would mesh quite well with his religious turn and make more sense than introducing characters or creating a story for someone like Trant to have slept with her

Don’t mind there not being any Kevan Lannister. His role can be shared between other characters. Be nice if he was in but if they’re streamlining it’s an obvious person to omit.

  26. On boats. I wonder if it will be a Hot Shots Deux type of thing where Tyrion is going one way and Jorah another, and Jorah spots him and decides to go back for him and Khalessi. “Just when I thought I was out, they keep pulling me back in.” Cue Jorah tracking Tyrion down at a brothel.
  27. Fedejru,

I don’t think it confirms it just yet, don’t

Jorah and Tyrion only meet in the brothel after Tyrion has left the company of the Griffs?

I do think it might confirm no

    Penny.
  28. Does any one else think that they might have

Tycho be the first person that Arya kills for the Faceless Men? They could still have him go to King’s Landing to interact with Cersei and the small council in the first half of the season and then have the assassination happen in the latter half. It’d be one way to give Arya’s contract more of an impact to the viewers if it’s someone that they recognise. This all depends of course on where D&D want to take the Iron Bank this season.
  29. Nick_Scryer,

Indeed, that is now quite clear. Also, I’d imagine they won’t reveal casting of the Griffs (if they do). Best keep these characters as vague as possible for logical reasons.

  30. White Raven,

It doesn’t make any real logical sense. They’re unrelated story lines, and as Tywin told Cersei, the Iron Bank isn’t any one person. They’re a faceless, unrelenting institution, so having Arya kill the person who “represents” the bank only means A) adding a complication to a story that doesn’t need one and B) adding the need to introduce another Iron Banker to deal with the bank related plots. It’s illogical.

Agreed. It makes no sense to reveal such a thing. Penny, though, is probably gone.
