Last year’s most surprising promotional effort from HBO for the fourth season of Game of Thrones was a mixtape titled “Catch The Throne.” The mixtape featured hip hop music and was made available for free on Soundcloud.
Though the Thrones-inspired rap was received with mixed reactions from fans, it appears HBO is going ahead and creating a second edition of “Catch The Throne” for season 5.
According to the Facebook of American metalcore band Killswitch Engage and the Instagram of the band’s vocalist Jesse Leach, the band is currently recording a song for this year’s “Catch The Throne” mixtape. Leach posted an assortment of photos from the recording session.
The question now is, will the mixtape feature a variety of music styles or is this year’s theme is hard rock/metal? Another theme seems likely but with Game of Thrones, you can never assume.

I was gonna say please let it be the dornishmen’s wife or the last of giants but I Don’t think this kind of music is good for the show – this is the first time they use a song that wasn’t from the books

AWESOME! Love KS. Metal is more to my personal taste than the Hip Hop of the last mix tape. Will definitely pick this up if it features a number of Rock/Metal artists as good as KS.

If you’re as popular as GOT has become, you can basically get away with just about anything 😉 I still think the promotional campaign for the first season was the best by far in terms of creativity. If it was also the one that raised the most extra awareness for the show, I’m not sure, since much of it seemed focused towards the by then already sullied fans.
I’m a Metalhead but KSE is not the kind of metal I really listened.
Would have loved a good power metal for that ! Ala Blind Guardian or Iced Earth ! Would have been epic !

If it’s a mixtape, that means there will be multiple bands involved. This is just the first one to reveal the project, so I guess we’ll find out soon enough what other groups are recording for Catch The Throne 2.
Hell Yeah! Blind Guardian already have a couple of ASOIAF songs that could possibly be put on the mixtape. That would be sweet.

When I saw you guys perform the other month, I loved your version of “We’re not gonna fake it”. I especially enjoyed the part when you brought Miley Cyrus onstage and she assumed the role and vocals of fArya.
The only good song from Catch The Throne was Arya’s Prayer by Dominik Omega, the rest was pure garbage but that’s my opinion.

While we do have a “Merchandise” page, I’ve made an unofficial rule to never include these “official fan made mixtapes”. For the first one particularly, I thought it was such a racist and simply dumb idea that I refuse to dignify it by including it in the wiki. I mean seriously: “we don’t have enough black characters in the show, so let’s try to hook black viewers with a fan-made rap album. Because we all know the blacks love rap.”…..Jesus Christ that was a racist idea. I mean I blame the HBO execs not D&D on this one (if anything, while not much it was specifically D&D who came up with the idea that “we need to give Grey Worm and Missandei more to do in Season 4”).

I don’t blame fans who make mixtapes, I blame HBO execs who thought “wow, this will be a great idea for hooking in black viewers who otherwise wouldn’t watch our show”….instead of, you know, aiming for a slightly better racial balance (though D&D themselves were trying to use what few black characters the show has more prominently)

Aren’t there three of you with equal administrative powers on the wiki? It comes off kind of arrogant the way you decree yourself the head administrator whenever you can. Also the racism here is not coming from them (unless you have a quote declaring that they actually used the thought process you’re suggesting). To me the style of music is just a style of music that can appeal or not appeal to all people depending on individual tastes, as opposed to it being black music. Without any evidence to suggest the execs are seeing it as purely black music, you’re the only one bringing the racism.
The only song from last year’s one that I could call good was Dominik Omega’s Arya’s Prayer. Sadly to say that the rest of the songs paled in comparison would be an understatement (especially the one form Big Boi, was that bad or what). Hopefully, this year’s mixtape would be an improvement although as long as it has a track by Omega Ill be happy :D.

Killswitch kicks ass. This should be pretty interesting! I wonder if it’ll be something original or just a cover like SROD did. ‘Hip Hop’ & GoT was an entirely stupid concept that I’m actually ashamed they thought it was a good idea. You can fit metal into a show like this much easier, & shit! they won’t have to really undergo make up, wigs, & wardrobe for a video. Grisly bearded men shredding on axes & a drum kit, perfect!

As a wiki your goal should be to provide information regarding Game of Thrones to all the different type of viewers that watch the show. The mix tape thing is an official part of the promotion of the show, an official HBO backed piece of merchandise.
If you don’t agree with something HBO does inside the show would you leave that off the wiki as well? (like deeming something the show did as racist)
My opinion is regardless of how you feel about it, it probably should be part of the wiki. (I personally feel your opinion was ignorant, offensive and racist)

Ok so first off killswitch is an amazing band they have probally one of the best producers Adam d and he is in the band plus HBO anyone who is doubting this needs to get there head examined. It is gonna sound epic and it will be heavy that’s it.
