#HairWatch2 is underway, and Kit Harington says the ending of ‘Thrones’ won’t make everyone happy

Caption
Hard to imagine Kit Harington (Jon Snow) without his signature locks and beard.

Remember the frenzy that was #HairWatch, when we were all scouring the internet daily to see if Kit Harington had cut his hair after Season 5 because it would have meant Jon Snow was no more? Well, welcome to #HairWatch2, because although a haircut wouldn’t mean anything this time around, Harington still hasn’t lost his signature look — and Season 8 filming wrapped two months ago. So what gives?

According to Entertainment Weekly, there’s no big mystery to it: the King in the North is still obliged to maintain his long hair in case re-shoots are required for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones

“We just finished filming. You can’t tell because I look exactly the same,” Harington recently joked at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he was promoting his new film The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. “They [HBO] own me.”

And as for Harington’s views on the series ending? He hopes fans will be happy, but he knows that might not be possible.

A series that’s spanned “eight or nine years will be incredibly difficult to end,” he told MTV News, and “I don’t think everyone’s going to be happy. You can’t please everyone.” He compared it to how some of his own favorite shows — The Sopranos, Breaking Bad and The Wire — ended in ways that left viewers “never completely satisfied,” although he assured us that Thrones will not end in a diner as “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” plays in the background.

Comment Section to explode into 300+ posts in 5, 4, 3….

  3. Reading too much into Kit’s quotes in 5, 4, 3…

He said everyone, not No One. Does this mean Arya lives to the end???

    Heh, j/k 🙂 I’m not that tinfoily.

  4. Kit is right that it is impossible to satisfy the fanbase. The shippers won’t be happy unless Jon ends up marrying both Sansa and Daenerys for instance. However, his comparison of the ending of Game of Thrones to the Sopranos is concerning. Sopranos was divisive because David Chase went for a weird postmodern ending (i.e. the fade to black) for what appeared to be shock value and “art.” The more successful series finales are those that serviced the story that were being told even if the ending wasn’t shocking. The Sopranos would have been a much more satisfying ending if the writers had finished Tony’s story even if that meant him being killed or arrested. Breaking Bad by contrast was widely acclaimed because it was bleak but did justice to Walt’s story. An out of left field twist would be concerning to me while a bleak ending that makes sense with the story might cause grumbling among some fans but will likely satisfy most.

  5. he assured us that Thrones will not end in a diner as “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” plays in the background.

Son of a bitch!! That was my number one hope for the ending!! 😛

Yeah, there’s no doubt that not everyone will be thrilled with the ending. Just browsing through various online fan communities, specifically here, we see lots of differences in wishes and/or desires for the ending. It doesn’t stop at simply the overall, main ending either as everyone is going to be looking at each individual character’s ending and judging as well.

  6. For a long time, I’ve just assumed that many of the much-hated characters will come out on top and the deserving heroes and lots of innocents will suffer or die. It’s just a matter of detail now.

  7. Every ending will be sad no matter what happens because

Game of Thrones will be over…

but it will be EPIC !!!!

    my bittersweet ending is

“The princess that was promised” The Last Targaryen will Rule the Seven Kingdoms as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and a Stark will be warden of the North (this time both are Women) and there will be decades of peace and prosperity
  8. “I was hoping they would all be at the Inn at the Crossroads, and it would black out while The Rains of Castamere was playing….“

… and they’ve each already enjoyed a piece of Hot Pie’s latest version of Wolf Bread. (He never gave up on the gravy!)

  9. Clob: lots of differences in wishes and/or desires

wishes and/or desires? Yeah, I wrote that. 😛
I meant wishes and/or beliefs about how it should end.

  10. Samantha,

Quite right. There isn’t a lot out there right now, and sites need to be kept current somehow.

    P. S. Do you want me to start a flamewar with someone? Get the view counts up? I’d do that for ya.

  11. In an article on a german site I read lately, Kit Harrington said, he will keep his long hair, but take off his beard, although without he would look like a whining child.

LOL. That’s not bittersweet at all, it’s a straight up happy ending.

Let’s face it, multiple fan-favourite characters are going to die, there’s no two ways about it…

  13. George: Let’s face it, multiple fan-favourite characters are going to die, there’s no two ways about it…

My wife and I just started making a list of GoT characters that we think will live or die. I found myself assuming that just about everyone is going to die except for Sam, Gilly, Tyrion, Sansa, and Arya, lol. I’m undecided on Bran, Brienne, Davos, Gendry, Greyworm, and Missandei.

Either way, they’re all truly fucked.

  14. Mr Derp,
I only have a few on my “highest chance of living” list: ASNAWP, Sam, Gilly (& baby Sam) and Missandei.
I admit that I have Missandei on there mainly because she’s just an innocent little girl in the books (10 on introduction) that I think will live in that story. D&D would then be killing the character just for the hell of it. I think they’ll instead decide to let her go on to live her own life, not serving someone else by force or as a choice.

  15. Clob,

Tyrion’s not on your highest chance of living list though, eh? Are you foreseeing betrayal in his future or perhaps dying doing something heroic?

    P. S. Do you want me to start a flamewar with someone? Get the view counts up? I’d do that for ya.

Thanks, KG. I’ll keep it mind for Season 8 when some truly heinous things might be said about my articles 😉

  17. George,

I posted what I think the final 15 minutes of the Game of Thrones might be…

everything else before the final 15 minutes will be Winds of Winter x100 ….. that’s what makes it bittersweet

  18. I feel as though the long-forgotten red comet will finally say “Fuck y’all!”, and obliterate everyone and everything, therefore effectively showing how unimportant our petty human problems really are in the grand scheme of things. 😁

  19. By Kit saying it won’t end with “Don’t Stop Believing “, he’s trying to obfuscate. Journey ending confirmed!

  20. While there are plenty of endings for characters I want to see, I have to admit there is seriously only one that if I don’t get, I’ll be crushed about and regret ever reading ASOIAF/watching GOT, and another that will really, really bum me out. Fortunately, I’m pretty much 99.999999% on the crushing one not happening and at about 75% on the bumming one not happening.

    We’ll see.

  21. My strategy is to expect the worse possibilities ending there can be, like that the actual one will be bearable. I’m still hyped though, since we’ll finally get a conclusion~

  22. I have been hmming and haaaaing for two weeks whether to post my thoughts here or not on the subject of plot reveals. I have seen one which I regard as plausable. I doubt that many of you will feel the same way, but I have gone through it quite a few times now and I see the story going this way. What I do not want to do is spoil the series for anyone who hates knowing the ending in advance. so, my warning to all is, DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK I HAVE PROVIDED IF YOU FIT INTO THIS GROUP. If, when the series airs next year we see that the story = this plot leak then you are going to know by the end of the first episode that you already know how it end, and this will spoil it for that group of people. On the other hand, If you are like me and will still want to avidly watch the actors play out the story line whether or not I am aware of what is going to happen then you might find some interesting ideas in this reveal. It showcases all 6 episodes, one at a time. please do not come back and rage at me if you click on to watch and then find that afterwards you wish you had not. My thoughts on this plot reveal were, that if this is how the season pans out then grrm’s wish for bitter sweet endings remains nothing but that. Because I found at the end that it was nothing but bitter without the sweet.

PS. I watched it with subtitles because of the text-to-speak, this might help you. https://youtu.be/JFsJSbUxvpk

  23. For me it’s pretty simple really. A satisfying ending that I’ll be pleased with has to:
    1) Do justice to the amazing character arcs of all the main characters. No shock-value-for-the-sake-of-shock-value BS. Tell a good story and respect your viewers & fans.
    2) ASNAWP survives.

    That’s all. 🙂

  24. the unburdened,

This is fake – there is another You Tuber doing a similar thing I saw recently. HBO has been tight this year and no way any of these are real – not this level of detail that’s for sure. The other guy even introduced Cersei’s aborted fetus with Robert (from the books) as an existing character – I doubt even the Night King could resurrect a dead fetus! I zoomed through a few of your linked ‘spoilers’ and I have read this fan fiction before – pretty much word for word actually several months ago.

  25. OK, what does ASNAWP mean? I’ve been in this fandom (literally) from the beginning and I thought I knew all of the acronyms, but I have no clue about this one. And Google isn’t even helping.

  26. JenniferH,

Oh my god, I love that you tried to Google ASNAWP! 🙂 It stands for Arya Super Ninja Assassin Warrior Princess. You may also find variations such as ASNAWQ (the last Q is for Queen), or ASNAWA (the last A is for Adventurer). Confused? Thought so.

As I remember it, awhile back, talvikorppi was getting a little annoyed at all the Arya fanboy-/fangirl-ing, particularly in regards to her prodigious fighting abilities she displayed in season 7. I think talvikorppi said something along the lines of that she wants to see more from Arya than being a super ninja assassin warrior princess. And so Ten Bears, along with many other hardcore Arya fans (myself included), coopted the moniker to affectionately refer to our favourite character. ASNAWP! 🙂

Edit: This doesn’t count as Arya thread-derailment as I am legitimately answering a question.

  27. Sue the Fury,

i dunno sue, this one even if it has no credentials has a kind of ring of truth to it. also, the text to speech is telling me that this guy (and I say guy because as soon as they use a female text to speech voice you know it is a guy, just as you can be sure it is a girl if they are using male text to speech) does not want their voice recognized. So, at the very least their voice must be recognizable. lol you can imagine peter dinklage looking up and saying ‘why’s everyone looking at me?’ xD

OK, that totally works for me. I love that it refers to Arya! Because Arya is all things awesome. Oh, by the way, ASNAWP not surviving is the one thing that would crush me completely.

Thank you to you both for the quick reply!

  29. JenniferH:
OK, what does ASNAWP mean? I’ve been in this fandom (literally) from the beginning and I thought I knew all of the acronyms, but I have no clue about this one. And Google isn’t even helping.

Google actually does show a number of WotW articles for ASNAWP and even a number of WotW charts and other images…

Maisie’s idol dance video gave me an idea that Arya might do her version of Johnny Depp’s Hatter’s Futterwacken once she defeats the NK. If you want to go all ASNAWP, she may be similar to Alice jumping on the back of the Jabberwocky, but riding one of the dragons and then leaping off to deliver the final blow to the NK with her dagger. I also see her finding one of the nice Lannister lads (Ed Sheeran) to celebrate when the fighting is over, and everyone sings a final song.. Not sure which song though, but Bronn would join in too. Yes he will make it to the end! OK… the long night is getting long and I’m getting slap happy. I have a routine of watching an episode every 5 days..I’m on S3 E8 now. If S8 starts sometime in April, I will get to the season 7 finale by then.

  30. Tristofer Squishersbane: Roberta Baratheon:
I was hoping they would all be at the Inn at the Crossroads, and it would black out while The Rains of Castamere was playing….

    This wins.

Yep, if they’re talking about Kit’s hair, no way I’m not clicking – yet, he had something worthwhile to say – that his hair is the same in case of necessary reshoots. I’m sad in general that GOT is ending, so no ending is really going to be “good.” I’ll go for mostly satisfactory. And don’t remind me about the final diner scene of Sopranos. I still can’t believe that one.

  31. zandru: I’ve just assumed that many of the much-hated characters will come out on top

Not necessarily – I was sure that at the end Littlefinger would crawl from beneath a rock and live to continue his sneaking ways, but that was undone by Arya’s casual walk-by dagger stroke. Besides, who’s left that’s so evil besides Cersei and Euron? I would be surprised if Cersei was left standing at the end, but I’m pretty sure Euron is going to bite it. I hope Sansa is not one that you consider a “much hated character.” I can’t even bear to imagine another Stark dying.

  32. You can pretty much guarantee that a “leak” is fake if it has Bronn riding after Jaime to join him in the battle in The North. That’s just wish fulfilment that’s, bizarrely, part of so many of these fake leakers’ predictions.

At some point Bronn will probably have to choose where his loyalties lies, but it’s highly unlikely that they would waste what could be an interesting dramatic plot point by having him just appear alongside Jaime in the first episode of the season, having presumably chased after him like Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKPwZGU2vX4

And, no, the whole Lena Headey / Jerome Flynn thing doesn’t make it more likely. Bronn has been in King’s Landing for pretty much 6 seasons and they’ve never had a problem. The last we saw of him, he was basically in command of the Lannister / King’s Landing forces. They need somebody recognisable to play that role in Season 8. Qyburn can act as a convenient go-between where necessary.

There’s a handful of people on Youtube that are sensible and reasonable in their predictions and analysis, but then there’s a whole load of utter garbage, like that Talking Thrones guy or GrayArea. Every video of theirs is pure horse manure. I can’t believe anybody can watch that money-grabbing trash without physically feeling their mind rotting in the process.

  33. The ending most people are expecting is for Jon Snow to become King, basically a king Arthur/LOTR ending. I mean Aegon even sounds like Aragon. Dany may be his wife in that scenario but she could live or die for most people as they only see her as a reward for Jon Snow and since Jon is the most popular and loved character any ending that doesn’t fulfill that will be controversial.
When talking with these people they’ll insist on the fact that Jon can’t die again cause he already did, yet they’ll deny that he has plot armor even though that is clearly plot Armor.
I think Jon dies again, there is no way a show that was based on subverting tropes for years ending up with an archetype hero character with no depth or complexity as the winner of it all.

    Characters that’ll die:
    Jon Snow
    Bran Stark
Cersei Lannister (even though I don’t want her to)
    Jamie Lannister
    Tormund
    Jorah
    Grey warm
    Melisandre

It’s 50/50 for Dany, although I can totally see her dying in the same scene as Jon Snow.

Characters that I want to die:
    Lyanna Mormont
    Bronn

  34. JenniferH: OK, that totally works for me. I love that it refers to Arya!

While people probably don’t think to look there, ASNAWP really should be added to the WotW Lexicon. We’ve been using it for months now. 😀

  35. As we are discussing You Tube videos, what are people’s (especially the site moderators) thoughts on Frikidoctor’s recent “spoilers”, i.e.

    Tyrion betraying Dany

? Are those also You Tube fanfiction as well? I find it odd that anyone associated with production would give anything like that away but people are taking it serious because this particular You Tuber does apparently have a friend who provides him with detailed plot breakdowns a few weeks prior to the season starting.

  36. Are we still discussing whether or not those stupid youtube videos are real? Yikes. I thought they were debunked as fake a long time ago.

Why would Theon be at Winterfell in episode 1 when last we saw him he was rallying the IB to go rescue Yara?

    Tyrion and Missandei hooking up?

The beginning makes no sense at all. In the aftermath of the attack on Eastwatch, Tormund and Gendry are able to escape? Uh ok? We didn’t see Gendry there at all. We really don’t know where he is, but we didn’t see him fleeing the attack with Tormund and Beric, so it’s reasonable to assume Gendry isn’t there at all. If they didn’t show him fleeing with Beric and Tormund when the Wall fell then I’d find it hard to believe that he would just appear with them in the beginning of season 8 as though he’d been there the whole time.

Then it says, Beric stays behind to fight the White Walkers, the NK attacks Castle Black now, and somehow Beric is also there too fighting the White Walkers? Uh, yea, ok. I know teleportation is joked about on the show quite a bit, but this would take some “beam me up Scottie” type stuff to pull off if Beric is supposedly going to be at Eastwatch and Castle Black at nearly the same time.

I won’t go into the specifics, but Dany’s arc in the “leaks” is complete pointless and reduces her character to basically nothing.

Besides, didn’t a Reddit user admit that he made it all up?

  37. Mr Derp,

A Reddit user admitted to the fake scripts that “leaked” last year. The script needs to have a project title on it and this one didn’t. The 4chan leak was even earlier and has been thoroughly debunked by what little is known about filming. Most of the YT stuff is garbage. (I love the Gendry is Cersei’s kid one myself).

  38. got_tv_fan,

From what I’ve heard about that leak, it doesn’t really add up.

If Tyrion’s trial for treason in the dragon pit ends in him being executed by dragon fire, either Daenerys or Jon (presuming he gets Rhaegel, which I do find easy to believe) would have to be there to give the “Dracarys” command. But that leak specifically claimed that even though he was briefly in Seville, Kit Harrington did no filming there. And we know Emilia Clarke never even went to Seville. So who was conducting the trial – Drogon himself? Dragon as judge, jury, and executioner?

That would be interesting. But seems pretty unlikely.

  39. Gwidhiel,

As I understand it, that part was his own speculation.

    The leak/spoiler is

“So let’s summarize, Tyrion is a traitor. He is being trialed in the Dragon Pit. His treason will be revealed in a scene with five people involved: Sansa, Tyrion himself, Jon, Daenerys and Arya. The most shocking moment of the season is Tyrion’s death. That will be shocking, heartbreaking and probably the most important plot twist of the season. That is the information I have confirmed.”

So it seems that the manner in which Tyrion is executed is unknown at the time.
He should be releasing a new video soon with more info soon.

    got_tv_fan,

Yes, he’s taken more seriously because he has a prior track record of providing correct information. We won’t know if the information is legitimate until the season airs.

  40. Jay Targ,

Ah that makes more sense, thanks! Although I don’t know why he’d add that speculation because it specifically doesn’t make sense given the other assertions in his leak. For what it’s worth … I’m very skeptical. I think at this point he’s got financial motive to drive people to his youtube site, and since people are so hungry for details right now we’re all ripe for manipulation. No fallout for him about sharing bogus info this time, since this is the last season. But we’ll have to wait until the final season airs to find out!

  41. Jay Targ,

That is why I am asking here. My understanding is that Frikidoctor has fallen for fake things in the past. He posted a YT video suggesting the faux scripts with Jon being held captive by Cersei were true as well. Most of his information comes from a translator, who is given the episodes a few weeks to translate into Spanish. This far out I can see him falling for some third hand poorly sourced rumor. He also has a monetized YT channel and has T-shirts he is selling to his followers.

And it is just makes no sense to me that they would have shot something as major as Tyrion’s trial and execution on an outdoor set like Italica rather than in their studios or even somewhere in Northern Ireland.
  42. got_tv_fan,

As far as I’m aware, Frikidoctor has never revealed where he gets his information from. The translator thing is fan speculation.

As for the possibility of him falling for a bad source this time around.. It’s certainly possible. However, he states he is as sure of these leaks as he has been when revealing information for past seasons. So whatever his source is, he seems to have a high degree of confidence in it. Perhaps said source has given him correct info in the past?

And I’d rather not speculate about someone’s financial incentive to give false leaks. At a glance, it seems like his other videos get about the same amount of views as the one where he revealed his leaks.

I’m skeptical as well, but his prior track record is why I’m willing to entertain his leaks. We’ll see.

  43. Well, I took a chance and watched the “leak” videos hoping they were fakes, because I don’t want to be spoiled for the season but I was also very bored and I don’t mind watching/reading facfic predictions as they can be entertaining. I am glad that the videos seem ridiculously out there and not at all believable.

They were entertaining as heck, though. Some things could very well turn out to be true this season… but most of their guesses will be wrong. All of the characters seem to be traveling way too much for six episodes and they go to areas of Westeros that I am certain will not be seen (again). Plus, they contradict the few things that we actually know about the season.

Still, they are thoroughly entertaining and gave me a good laugh. I encourage you all to give them a view.

  44. HBO took steps to basically get the legit season 7 leaker off the internet. However, as far as I know HBO has taken no steps to remove any of this season 8 leak stuff. That should probably tell you something. At least, it does for me. of course, YMMV.

  45. Mr Derp,

They did? I remember HBO being very quite about their entire season leaking 10 months before it aired. All I remember is them sending out James Hibberd to publish an article basically saying not to believe everything you read on the internet. Other than that, I don’t remember them doing very much.

The leaker came back after a few months and proceeded to post actual script pages from S7 and his account is still open to this day.

But I do agree in thinking that there aren’t many (if any) legitimate leaks out right now.

  46. Jay Targ,

From what I remember the leaker deleted his/her Reddit account when he/she started getting a lot of attention from the leaks and other users simply screen-grabbed the info to keep it alive. I don’t know much more than that, but I seem to recall there was a reason why the account was deleted.

  47. Mr Derp,

Yes, it does seem a bit illogical to me that HBO would go to the extraordinary lengths that it has this year to prevent S8 leaks without scrutinizing last year’s leak sources very carefully. E.g. if the Spanish youtube leaker was getting his info from a translator in previous years, HBO might use different translators this year, and/or announce to everyone connected to the project that any Spanish-language leaks will result in HBO blacklisting everyone on the translation project from working on any future HBO production.

Which isn’t to say that leaks aren’t possible this year, just that I’d be surprised if previous sources continued to produce as they have in years past, given the lengths HBO has gone to keep things under wraps. That would be like responding to a burglar entering your house through an unlocked window by installing extra locks on your doors but continuing to leave your windows open.

  48. Mr Derp,

Well his account is still open, and this is what he replied to people when he was asked that.

First time I ever came on Reddit was with the previous account. I just shared what I could as quickly as I could as I was very paranoid about getting caught or something.
    Then I deleted the account.
    Then nothing happened at all.
So I came back and took my time.
Sorry, that’s the end of the mystery as to why you seem to think I’m so different this time. I was terrified last time. This time I’m not.

    and

Lads 1.0 and Lads 2.0 are the same person. That is to say, me. If there’s one thing I regret it’s deleting that original account. some users had me convinced HBO were going to pop out of my bedroom wardrobe and take me away, so I panicked and deleted it. Never happened, thankfully.

I really think that the lengths HBO goes to to prevent leaks is somewhat exaggerated.

  49. Gwidhiel,

Yes, it strikes me as implausible that they would have scripts on secure IPads that can barely be accessed by the actors and fly in actors to Seville including their top talent like Kit and Nikolaj to troll us, but not do anything about sources who have leaked things in the past. I don’t mind the “twist” itself. It would be brilliant if they managed to pull that off, but the details of what happens and circumstances surrounding the leak make me skeptical

  50. I just started reading comments (newest ones first), and everything seems to be about “leaks” and that Reddit scoundrel who ruined S7 for millions of fans.

C’mon people! No leaks here! Please? Let the incels and goofballs milk their eels into their turtle stew at Reddit and the hundreds of other fansites for parasites of creative artists’ works.

    🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱

If this keeps up I’m going to have to mobilize an army of wannabe screenwriters to create fakeleaks. Damn it!!!!

I’m gonna say it again: We’ve seen 67 out of 73 episodes thus far. That’s 91.78% of the total airtime. It’s also at least 65 hours of dialogue with more than enough hidden clues and hung guns to fuel speculation for the next six months.

Let’s break out our own tinfoil hats, and leave the thieving to the donkey-loving Orsonites.

  51. Ten Bears,

It’s so easy to avoid things

    that are covered up

if you don’t want to read them.

Although I can appreciate that it’s one thing to avoid sites that are known for spoilers but much harder to resist temptation here. This is why I don’t keep ice-cream in the freezer. So my apologies, Ten Bears. Although I feel pretty confident that the spoiler in question is merely someone’s speculation – perhaps peppered with some wishful thinking.

  52. Ten Bears,

I am actually happy to read about what everyone has to say about this, not necesarily about the speculation of the series, but just general information about what everyone here at wotw thinks and knows about all this stuff. It is interesting to find out exactly what we all know, and also what we all think we know. good stuff.

  53. Ten Bears:

I’m gonna say it again: We’ve seen 67 out of 73 episodes thus far. That’s 91.78% of the total airtime. It’s also at least 65 hours of dialogue with more than enough hidden clues and hung guns to fuel speculation for the next six months.

Agreed. Following up on some of the speculation above, how about we start speculating on what happens to each character?

    Samwell Author-Avatarly: Survives. Because duh.
Gilly & Little Sam: Also survive, via association with Sam.
That’s the closest we’re getting to a happy ending, really. Now for the rest:

Arya: Helps Sam the Slayer unmake the NK. Wears Jamie’s face to kill Cersei. Explores the now-unfrozen lands beyond where The Wall once was, with or without Gendry.

Jamie: dies in Brianne’s arms after keeping a horde of wights and WW off of Bran during the final battle with the NK. Becomes known as the Queenslayer after his death (see above).

Brienne: Survives the fight to save Bran, and gives Jamie the first, last, and only kiss he has every received in adulthood from a woman other than his sister. Maybe accompanies Arya on exploring the West of Westeros.

Dothraki, UnSullied, and most of the civilian population of Westeros: slaughtered and wightened, then de-animated with the unmaking of the NK.

Davos, Varys: Killed by followers of the Red Priesthood for opposing their support of Dany.

Mel: Gendry forges VS blade by plunging it into her heart. (She’s had this coming for a very long time, and Gendry spent much of S7 reminding the audience of how much he hates her.)

Wight Viserion: takes Scorpion bolt with Gentry-Modified Heartsbane as tip.

NK: tumbles to ground and rendered insensate after Viserion is shot from under him. Obsidian blade extracted by Sam. NK reverts to one of the First Men. Army of the Dead de-animates.

Rhegal: killed by normal Scorpion bolt in assault on KL after NK unmade.

Dany: attacks King’s Landing atop her one remaining dragon. Interaction of dragon fire and wild fire caches under KL demonstrate conclusively the limits to her fire-proof ability.

Jon: with advice of Tyrion, Leads Great Council to decide government of the former Seven Kingdoms.

  54. Ten Bears,

Oh there have been a gazillion fake leaks this year, especially on Reddit and You Tube. I personally believe that the above leaks are four hand rumors mixed with speculation. However, I put them under a spoiler tag just in case given this guy’s track record.

  55. It sounds like they’re sick of it. I wouldn’t blame them. It’s been almost 10 years, and I’m sure they want to move on, especially after the last three seasons. All the secrecy/spoilers/etc. I’m ready to move on, too. It’ll be great, but nice to put this all behind us for once.

  56. You know nothing, Jon Snow, or maybe you know everything. Nonetheless, damn you, you Targaryen bastard!

But at least you aren’t a Lannister.

  57. Pigeon,

lol he means that he doesn’t keep any at all so that he can’t be tempted by it, and that was the thrust of his first statement, what is not here doesn’t temp him. or at least that is what i take as his meaning.

  58. Interesting as I thought Kit was keen to cut his hard as soon as possible and would have done so for his wedding. Even re-shoots feel a little late at this stage given filming ended a months ago.

As for the ending all the actors seem to be saying the same thing, big twists, betrayals, not everyone will be happy but it’s good. I can only think Dany breaks bad at this point especially with the comments from Emilia about hoping everyone still likes her character come the end.

  59. Mr Derp: My wife and I just started making a list of GoT characters that we think will live or die.I found myself assuming that just about everyone is going to die except for Sam, Gilly, Tyrion, Sansa, and Arya, lol.I’m undecided on Bran, Brienne, Davos, Gendry, Greyworm, and Missandei.

Either way, they’re all truly fucked.

I can definitely see Greyworm dying the rest I think are probably amongst the safest.

  60. the unburdened:
    Pigeon,

lol he means that he doesn’t keep any at all so that he can’t be tempted by it, and that was the thrust of his first statement, what is not here doesn’t temp him. or at least that is what i take as his meaning.

Wow. I am an idiot. LOL. I have no idea how I didn’t understand that – I was picturing a cartoon of ice cream sitting in the washing machine or a desk drawer somewhere. Thank you! 😳

  61. Pigeon,

Carton. Carton of ice cream. Not cartoon. Although NOW I’m picturing an ice cream cartoon.

    I can’t even blame a migraine, I don’t have one today. 😂

  62. Sue the Fury: This is fake – there is another You Tuber doing a similar thing I saw recently.

The worst thing about supposed leaks is that we have no tangible way to debunk them until the trailer drops. Over the prior ten months we’ve had filming news which could hint that stuff was made up. I guess all we can do for now is bunker down and not read too much into any “supposed” leaks because to best of my knowledge there have been no significant leaks and I hope it stays that way.

  63. Ramsay's 20th Good Man: And, no, the whole Lena Headey / Jerome Flynn thing doesn’t make it more likely.

Talking thrones is terrible, I hear he reads rumours and passes them off as facts from trusted sources. The one you tuber I really like is Val from becauseGeek, she’s brilliant and doesn’t take things too seriously.

  64. Ten Bears:
I just started reading comments (newest ones first), and everything seems to be about “leaks” and that Reddit scoundrel who ruined S7 for millions of fans.

C’mon people! No leaks here! Please? Let the incels and goofballs milk their eels into their turtle stew at Reddit and the hundreds of other fansites for parasites of creative artists’ works.

    🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱

If this keeps up I’m going to have to mobilize an army of wannabe screenwriters to create fakeleaks. Damn it!!!!

I’m gonna say it again: We’ve seen 67 out of 73episodes thus far. That’s 91.78% of the total airtime. It’s also at least 65 hours of dialogue with more than enough hidden clues and hung guns to fuel speculation for the next six months.

Let’s break out our own tinfoil hats, and leave the thieving to the donkey-loving Orsonites.

i disagree. no, not on the part about “leaks”. i see and support your point here.

i disagree on incels milking their eels. since when do they have anything like that?

  65. Mr Derp,

Haha that reminds me of when I was reading the leaked S7 scripts and the part about the Wight hunt seemed ludicrous and afterwards Jon and Dany in the cabin with him calling her “Dany” and saying he would bend the knee if he could sounded awkward/odd to just about everybody on Reddit at the time lol.

The first two episodes themselves leaked if I remember correctly. A few days before the season start.

  66. Jon Snowed: Talking thrones is terrible, I hear he reads rumours and passes them off as facts from trusted sources. The one you tuber I really like is Val from becauseGeek, she’s brilliant and doesn’t take things too seriously.

I love her “sleuthing” approach, which uses known facts and avoids leaks to make predictions. Her current one about Arya’s possible interactions with children next season is fairly brief but very interesting.

  67. The cast members keep saying this and it’s honestly making me less hyped…..like now I’m just preparing for disappointment. Maybe they should go with another quote ya?

  68. Stark Raven’ Rad: I love her “sleuthing” approach, which uses known facts and avoids leaks to make predictions. Her current one about Arya’s possible interactions with children next season is fairly brief but very interesting.

I watched that video about Arya yesterday, and I think that would be a wonderful thing to see from her next season! It makes a lot of sense, and I can totally see it happening too, although I disagree that the child/children will be those of the Lannister soldier she interacted with in 7×01 because the timeline doesn’t match up.

For those curious (mild filming spoilers)…

Maisie apparently filmed with a young girl for season 8, so the speculation is that they’re going to circle back and do a version of her Weasel subplot from book 2. Maybe Arya will come across a young girl and her mother (who is either dead or will die) and take on a caring, protective role with the young girl. In book 2 during her travels with Yoren, Gendry, and co., they come across a young girl that Arya nicknames Weasel. Gendry thinks she’s going to get them killed because she’s slowing them down, but Arya angrily protests and goes out of her way to protect her. (Forgive me if I have some details wrong, as my memory of book details is a bit sketchy.) It would be a wonderful way to bring out the old Arya in season 8 that has been hinted and teased at by Maisie.
  69. death by chickenfire,

“I disagree. no, not on the part about “leaks”. i see and support your point here.

i disagree on incels milking their eels. since when do they have anything like that?”
    —————-
I’ll let Lord Tyrion explain. (I just happened to be ranking Tyrion’s top ten scenes this week, and this one came in at #2):

    [S1e6, Tyrion at the Vale]

Lysa: “You wish to confess your crimes?”

Tyrion: “Yes, my lady. I do, my lady.”

Lysa (to Catelyn): “The sky cells always break them.”

Lysa (to Tyrion): “Speak, Imp. Meet your gods as an honest man.”

Tyrion: “Where do I begin, my lords and ladies? I’m a vile man, I confess it. My crimes and sins are beyond counting. I have lied and cheated gambled and whored. I’m not particularly good at violence, but I’m good at convincing others to do violence for me.
    You want specifics, I suppose.
When I was seven, I saw a servant girl bathing in the river. I stole her robe. She was forced to return to the castle naked and in tears.
If I close my eyes, I can still see her tits bouncing.
When I was 10, I stuffed my uncle’s boots with goat s*it. When confronted with my crime, I blamed a squire. Poor boy was flogged and I escaped justice.
When I was 12, I milked my eel into a pot of turtle stew. I flogged the one-eyed snake. I skinned my sausage. I made the bald man cry into the turtle stew, which I do believe my sister ate. At least I hope she did.
    I once brought a jackass and a honeycomb into a brothel…”

    Lysa: “Silence!”

    Robyn: “What happened next?”

Lysa: “What do you think you’re doing?”

    Tyrion: “Confessing my crimes.”

Catelyn: “Lord Tyrion, you are accused of hiring a man to slay my son Bran in his bed, and of conspiring to murder my sister’s husband, Lord Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King.”

Tyrion: “Oh, I’m very sorry. I don’t know anything about all of that.”

  70. Gwidhiel:

With Frikidoctor he’s not 100% correct always, he’s got some right and some wrong. I believe he’s been in trouble with HBO before for leaking stuff most notably stuff that was filmed in Spain.

  71. Ten Bears,

one of my all time Tyrion favorites. thank you for typing it. exactly this scene is why i have to insist on my point: incels do not have an eel. at least if we follow the definition of an eel given by the god of tits and wine himself.

this is why these poor guys have to form “movements”, masturbate guns or write stupid fanfiction.

  72. death by chickenfire,

Hmm. Without getting too clinical here, let me just say that in the absence of the ability to attract milkmaids or because they loathe milkmaids or themselves, incels wind up having to milk their own eels. It’s my understanding they are disproportionately misanthropic as well as misogynistic- a common theme of their writings is anger towards women in particular and people in general.

I do empathize somewhat. Eveeybody has to deal with rejection. But sometimes the answer is simply to get out of the basement and off the computer; knock off twenty pounds; make sure they’re well-dressed and well-groomed when out in public; and try not to act weird. Admittedly, that takes much more effort than lounging around alone in sweatpants in front of the computer eating cheese doodles with one hand and slapping their trouser trout with the other.

These days, a guy can get scores of women to talk to him just by casually dropping an Arya Stark line into a conversation. Or even by following a modified version of the Tao of Steve. (I’ll try to find the abridged version of the three principles of the Tao of Steve and post them later, but one of them is to “do something excellent in her presence.” Which is why I still think Sansa’s got a thing for the Big Doggie.)

  73. death by chickenfire,

PS BTW… In that Tyrion “confession” scene, I always get a nice chuckle when he’s reciting his “sins”; Lysa barks at Tyrion to shut up in the middle of the honeycomb & jackass story, but Robyn wants to know: “What happened next?”

  74. death by chickenfire,

For what it’s worth, in my (personal) Tyrion Top Ten scenes rankings, strong contenders included his dinner with Janos Slynt; talking his way out of trouble with the Hill Tribes; battle planning with Bronn; antagonizing but then making friends with the Bastard of WF; and strolling into the Small Council meeting and pissing off Cersei with his Acting Hand commission.

But here’s what came out as #1:

  75. Clob: While people probably don’t think to look there, ASNAWP really should be added to the WotW Lexicon. We’ve been using it for months now. 😀

That, along with MFT (Meryn F*cking Trant).

  76. David,

My thoughts exactly. It is as if they are preparing us that there is something wrong with the ending or something. Many actors have said more or less the same thing recently, Sophie Turner, NCW and now Kit Harington. This constant emphasis on how many fans will be displeased. I’m worried.

  77. OMG! i’m going to fall in a heap because the actors are preparing us for the worst +_+ lmao…..c’mon! they have put their hearts and souls into this last season, and now they are apprehensive as to how it is going to be received. rofl… it is only natural for them to want to water down our expectations a bit. you guys… honestly! xD

  78. Ten Bears:
    death by chickenfire,

But here’s what came out as #1:

actually any Tyrion scene on the height of his power is pure gold. and the shrinking of Lancel is one of the best of these.

my memory says the “feed it to the goats” gag has been built up a bit more in the books, but still the outing of Grandmummy Pycelle as a traitor was nice to watch on TV.

(not taking part in the contest is any “10 hours of Tyrion slapping Joffrey” loop on youtube. i love to use these for relaxation as others use “10 hours of peaceful and quiet music for the soul of a depressed cat”. and i’ve also heard of parents using these as an educational tool.)

oh, and as you mention Sweetrobin’s reaction during trial: yes!! he and Oberyn were the only judges in Tyrions twenty or so trials who were interested in facts.

  79. Frikidoctor has never leaked anything. Last two seasons (S6 & 7) he took Lads leaks and the photos taken in Spain and mashed them together in his videos. I would bet that he doesn´t have any inside source. His last video follow his typical pattern. He takes know information and mix it with his own predictions.

HBO would sue him if he had contacts and leaked on youtube with his own face.

  80. Wasn’t Frikidoctor subject of legal challenge before by HBO? I know he’s also been wrong but he’s also has been right with stuff.

By the way I haven’t read these supposed leaks but have seen others have dismissed them either way would kindly ask others not to post them if there is a chance they could be true.

  81. Jon Snowed,

Thank you for reiterating that. Besides, at least last year, this site’s policy was that anyone who felt compelled to discuss “leaks” should do so in a quarantined area in the forum section. Because even spoiler-covered “leaks” comments invariably prompt an uncovered reply by someone.

    🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱

  82. Jon Snowed,

All the stuff he’s been right before was, surprise!, the leaks from truede (season 6) and lads (season 7). And he made those videos only after the leaks were posted on reddit.

When he tried to make his own predictions he misses quite a lot. He was convinced of Sansa having Ramsay’s baby in season 7 when HBO leaked props sets for Winterfell. He also thought “legit” a leak for season 8 that Sevilla filming proved false.

  83. Eonwe,

Which leak was that one? There have been so many. I know that Frikidoctor did fall for the fake scripts that someone made to troll people on Reddit.

  84. Enharmony1625,

… and spoiler coding covered or not, “leaks” comments trigger lengthy off-topic subthreads, including comments about the veracity of the Reddit “leaker(s).” Like baseball “fans” who used to run onto the field and interrupt the game just to get on TV, these clowns don’t deserve to be name-dropped. (Once Major League Baseball and the networks adopted a policy of NOT televising the idiots running onto the field, it wasn’t long before the idiots stopped doing it. Without the notoriety from their five minutes of “fame”, it wasn’t worth it anymore. Without saying much more about a sensitive topic, I suspect that if school shooters’ names and images weren’t published, there might just be fewer such incidents.)

The only time I want to hear or read about the S7 leaker and his cronies is if there’s an FBI Press Release announcing their indictments and arrests.

  85. death by chickenfire,

“…not taking part in the contest is any “10 hours of Tyrion slapping Joffrey” loop on youtube. i love to use these for relaxation as others use “10 hours of peaceful and quiet music for the soul of a depressed cat”. and i’ve also heard of parents using these as an educational tool.”

For similar reasons, I excluded Swingin’ Olly (blue-faced dead Olly with noose around his neck) from my nominees for best Jon Snow scene, though I confess that I use a Swingin’ Olly screen saver as a relaxation technique. I cannot say from personal knowledge whether parents use Swingin’ Olly as an educational tool.

  86. I had a few ideas of my own, nothing that unique, but among them the idea that maybe Tyrion does betray Dany. I was thinking about the structure of the story from D&D’s perspective, and how they could make things more interesting. I mean, if the final season was all about various favorites dying one by one, chasing white walkers and being chased by white walkers, and Cersei and Euron being treacherous, that’s all pretty predictable.

I think Benioff & Weiss wanted to come up with something startling, and IMO, Peter Dinklage’s recent interview comments sort of hint at betrayal. To me it seems like a natural thing to do. We’ve been reminded several times that Tyrion really enjoys exercising power and engaging in “strategy.”

We were also reminded several times last season that Tyrion is “concerned” about who might succeed Dany…since as far as he knows she can’t have children. Then he discovers his sister is pregnant. There’s an odd symmetry there that poses a dilemma for Tyrion. So maybe he reached some agreement about succession with Cersei that only 3 eyed- Bran would be aware of. I will even go so far as to speculate that Tyrion knows Cersei isn’t sending men to help. He’s probably hoping Jaime will overrule her. A slender hope, but still.

I think once it becomes know that Tyrion was scheming with his sister he will get fried. Literally. Dany will see it as betrayal. In fact, Tyrion may share his plans with Varys. It is even possible Tyrion will see himself as King/Regent. The point is, one of those women and their babies will have to die in order for Tyrion’s plan to come to fruition.

    WILDFIRE
As for wildfire blowing everyone up, I wonder if that will even be a factor. They used wildfire for the Battle of Blackwater Bay, in the process they let us know that there was a pyromancer and a whole lot of wildfire. Then we had Jaime telling Brienne about the Mad King wanting to “Burn them all”.

So, IMO, the climactic scene for wildfire was Cersei blowing up the Sept of Baylor. That was a major event. A very big deal. IMO if they use it again, it would be sort of anticlimactic. Sort of “been there, done that” kind of thing. I’m not saying they wouldn’t, but I am saying I hope they don’t. it won’t be the “ha!” moment they were going for.

    DANY
I’m hoping Dany does not die in childbirth. It would be nice to see her live. I mean, she had one kid that died in childbirth. Lyanna died in child birth. Cersei has a miscarriage. (That’s one rumor I believe) We get it. It might be a nice plot twist to let her live.

    BRONN:

IMO Bronn was always one of those guys they could have killed off, and probably kept him alive even through the battles of the last season, in service to the fans. But now, I wonder if D&D have given him a role to play. Is it possible that they can use a ballista to shoot a giant spear made of dragon glass at Vyserion? It would make plot sense, as if everything he’s done has led him to this crucial point. After all, he was the guy who shot the arrow that ignited the wildfire that burned Stannis’ navy.

I haven’t yet worked out what Varys and Melisandre’s roles are. I think Melisandre along with Bran are going to be important. As for Varys, is it possible he betrays Tyrion? Sorry. Betrayal is on my mind. It’s possible Varys will survive and serve the new King well.

I hope in the case of Grey Worm, Edd and Tormund they have “important deaths.” They’ve been through so much if they have to go I want them to do it with style!

I do expect to see Ja’qen H’gar again. The idea of him getting the commission to assassinate Cersei from Euron is intriguing. Appearing at Winterfell to give it to Arya would be a popular notion. Arya & the Hound going off to King’s Landing to settle acounts makes sense.

But there is one thing as yet unexplained. Remember Sam reading that book at the Citadel? And there was a drawing of the very dagger Bran gave Arya. What is the significance of that dagger? Is Arya going to kill The Nigh King?

I don’t know if it’s possible, but wouldn’t it be cool if, when Euron makes his deal with the Gold Cloaks, he ends up unintentionally alerting Daario? I’d love to see him again. Especially if he is responsible for the Gold Cloaks betraying Cersei. Now that would be a plot twist!

  87. got_tv_fan,

Not gonna go into details. But character is killed in episode 3 according to the leaker. And then said character actor goes to Sevilla to film the Dragonpit scene.

  88. Eonwe,

That character has died three off-seasons running in various fleaks. That seems to be a popular fleak, especially since said character is disliked on Reddit. Friki fell for that one as well on top of the obviously fake scripts in December?

  89. Ten Bears:
    Enharmony1625,

Without saying much more about a sensitive topic, I suspect that if school shooters’ names and images weren’t published, there might just be fewer such incidents.)

flipside: after every second-amendmending of kids, the name of the killer was known to the public before even one victim’s name made it out of the respective county. the killer was known, his mum’s hobbies were known, his favorite games were known, and of course alarming postings in social media and why didn’t anyone and on and on…

meanwhile, the victims stay anonymous. and what happens? right: Nazidouche Alex Jones denies the existence of victims. over and over again, and thousands of lobotomized character failures foam after him.
did any of these imbeciles question the existence of the respective killer? some may have, but the success in their peer group was limited to the liking by bots and people who got locked away five minutes later. or so.

denying the fate of nameless victims is so easy, and sometimes we need to hold the known name of the killer and the known circumstances against the tries to deny the tragedy – as a proof of that tragedy.

let me drive the covering of names a bit further: let’s say, the killer’s name remains hidden. Jones: there was no killer.
let’s keep quiet about the name of the school. Assburger Jones: there’s no school in Newtown.

it reminds me of the 911-twoofballs who deny the existence of a plane that crashed at Shanksville. or any planes at all, anywhere on that day.

(ok, i have an answer for these heartless conspiraloons: “there was no plane hitting a tower in NYC? what NYC are you talking about, you paid shill?”
but that is the bad end of not giving killers the “fame” they are out for.)

remember: for the majority?minority? of decent people on this planet, a killer’s fame ist actually a killer’s shame.
also, the “fame” starts lots of questions to a killer’s social environment. it moves more into the right direction than keeping quiet and forgetting names like Lanza, O’Veigh, Manson or: Hitler.

f*ck, how did we get here? this is such a depressing issue.

  90. MMJ: “And you excluded Sansa because…?”

… I haven’t a clue as to what will happen to her. I also have never much cared what might happen to her. I would imagine she plays an interesting role in the outcome, but I have no idea what it might be. So I left speculation about Sansa to other readers.

  91. Eonwe,

Did you hear about the leak that Dany is going to give birth to a half-human, half-dragon hybrid? I didn’t either. I just made it up.

No leaks talk here! Please! They’re all fake, but even if they’re not, please go to the quarantine area in the forum section to discuss them.

    🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱🚱

  92. Tensor the (Tinfoil-Helmed) Mage,

    I’ll play:

Jon Snow: Sacrifices himself by undergoing the Benjen shard to the heart treatment to become an half undead-half living conciliator. Jon’s all about self-sacrifice for the greater good (eg Mance suicide mission; stupid wight hunt). His big thing is forging truces or alliances with sworn enemies (eg wildlings; opting to have the Karstark and Umber kids rejoin the food rather than punish them).

Also, here’s what’s been said about him:

Davos, S6e7: “Your uncle, Lord Commander Mormont, made that man his steward.
He chose Jon to be his successor because he knew he had the courage to do what was right, even if it meant giving his life.”

Davos, S7e3: “All those things you don’t believe in, he faced those things. He fought those things for the good of his people. He risked his life for his people. He took a knife in the heart for his people. He gave his own– ”

    Beric & Jon, S7e6:
Beric: “You and I won’t find much joy while we’re here. But we can keep up the fight. We can defend those who can’t defend themselves.”

Jon: “‘I am the shield that guards the realm of men.’ Maybe we don’t need to understand any more than that.”

  93. Tensor the Mage, Who In Real Life Is All About The Red-Heads,

I’ve been criticized for saying this: I believe Sansa’s story is pretty much wrapped up. She’s Lady of Winterfell, and finally realized that’s where she belongs – not looking for some weenie prince to marry and pop out babies. LF was unceremoniously dispatched. That’s done. S8 for Sansa: Taking grain inventory.
Alternatively, I hope Sansa & Arya become a complementary team. That would be satisfying. Still, she had her big story lines in S5 – S7. Her major conflicts have been resolved. Honestly, I don’t see any set up for a Sansa S8 story line – unless it’s with a certain big fella she thought was dead. (C’mon, Little Bird. Give the Hound at least one happy memory. Or ten. He deserves it.)

  94. Ten Bears,

I don’t know exactly how… but the only thing I can think of for Sansa is to have something to do with Cersei’s storyline in season 8. She was definitely a big part of Cersei’s storyline so far and she is really the only person left alive that wronged her.

I do agree Sansa’s storyline seems almost wrapped up, as I think she’s already gotten to the spot she will end in at the end of the series (Lady of Winterfell, except it could be possible she grabs the Wardeness of the North title as well). But I also think she’ll have to play a part in bringing Cersei’s downfall somehow. Maybe she orchestrates the plan to bring her down, I don’t know.

  95. Ten Bears,

I actually read a hilarious fleak on Reddit that the “baby” has light beams shooting out of its eyes. So I guess poor Dany gives birth to an actual demon spawn. I’m almost tempted to refer to the potential kid as Damien going forward.

  96. The hackers who were arrested leaked an episode, not the person(s) who leaked the season outline in Autumn 2017.

  97. got_tv_fan,

I thought the guy from Iran was identified and indicted, but not arrested. (I assume there’s no extradition treaty with Iran.) I could be wrong. If I’m not, then we should send in Seal Team Six to bring him to the U.S. for trial, or administer justice on the spot. He was using the threat of exposing GoT’s actors’ personal information to try to extort $ from HBO. That’s something the gods cannot forgive.

  98. Ten Bears,

Okay. For some reason, I thought that he was arrested in another country. And no, the US does not have a extradition treaty with Iran so he is not going to arrested.

  99. Nariman,

I wouldn’t be heartbroken if everybody dies except for Arya, and the last scene is her riding through the desolate wasteland and stopping at the Crossroads Inn… when Hot Pie emerges with his apron on and asks “Can I get anyone some more kidney pie?”

Yeah, I know that’d be silly – but better than the Sopranos ending.

  100. By the way…. Why can’t at least one actor come out and say: “Oh, the ending is going to be so awesome it’ll knock your socks off!”

What’s with the “I know some fans will be disappointed” attitude?

  101. Mr Derp,

How so? I thought S4e10 and S6e10 were well-received – and really good conclusions to those seasons’ stories. I don’t recall any of the actors suggesting that some fans wouldn’t be happy with those concluding episodes.

    Maybe I misunderstood.

  102. Ten Bears,

I’m somewhat disappointed that you missed the Sandor Clegane “experience” reference there, TB. Shame!

Yes, you misunderstood. I meant that the actors have a lot of experience with GoT fans and they know all too well how seriously many of the fans are invested in what happens to their favorite characters at the end. No matter what happens there will be a segment of the fan base that’ll be disappointed and they understand that. They’re just being realistic about it instead of blowing smoke up everyone’s ass.

  103. Mr Derp,

I did not miss the Hound (“Experience”) reference. I just didn’t understand it. But that’s probably because I was up until 4:30 am and my brain is fried. Orson Lannister mode, if you will.

It was my impression from previous seasons that the actors would play up the excitement (eg MW: “Holy Balls!”), rather than temper expectations. But who knows? If I get my Sandor and Arya scenes, I’ll be happy. There are Theon/Alfie fans who feel the same way.

The real problem? Fanatics like me (us?) parse every sentence and direct every word the actors speak. On that note, I’m going to try to excerpt some more enthusiastic expressions by Maisie W. in that recent Elle article.

  104. Excerpts. MW article/interview, Elle Sept. 6, 2018

The show grew from a cult hit to a worldwide smash, with devoted fans on every continent – thanks in no small part to child heroine Arya and her highly creative ways of avenging her family members’ deaths.
‘I’m the serial killer everyone’s rooting for,’ she says.

And root they do. No doubt this is because Arya has become something of a feminist icon, using her sword training to bring an end to tyrannical men who beat and rape women, who murder the pregnant and who cut the throats of mothers. Game of Thrones has been accused of misogyny in the past, but it’s been fascinating to watch the narrative turn in favour of powerful women.

I think until last season [seven], Arya was always killing the baddies,’ says Maisie. ‘But then we saw her start to use those manipulative powers. It’s not until she had that whole dialogue with her sister Sansa in the last season that you realise what she’s become, that she’s being awful to someone who we love. For me, it was a really great moment as an actor to be able to play the character you love as a baddie. It felt so amazing, even though it’s an awful scene. But she rights her wrongs in the end. Also Sophie [Turner, who plays Sansa] is my best friend. Who gets to be on set with their best friend? Me! We lift each other up.’

As for the misogyny accusations, Maisie says: ‘For me, [Game of Thrones] is a medieval world in which women don’t have a lot of rights, and yet they still prevail. But I do think that as the seasons have gone on, it’s become more and more amazing for women. And this final season is going to be incredible. It just feels great, being on set with all these girls. They’re all ruling, you know, they’re all back on top – it’s pretty impressive.’
Though Maisie must feel pretty chuffed to still be in the show at all, considering how many central characters have been slain, inspiring countless fan pages and memes in the process. ‘Season one to eight, that’s what I wanted. I was in the first episode and I want to be in the last,’ she says

Maisie makes her stage debut in October in I & You at The Hampstead Theatre

  105. Ten Bears,

Here’s my answer, from MW herself:

“But I do think that as the seasons have gone on, it’s become more and more amazing for women. And this final season is going to be incredible. It just feels great, being on set with all these girls. They’re all ruling, you know, they’re all back on top – it’s pretty impressive.”

Good! Words like “incredible” and “amazing” and “pretty impressive.”
