HBO just released a dozen new interviews highlighting the journey of surviving Game of Thrones main characters, with each of their actors providing a send-off for their role.
There are some beautifully emotional moments here, and hilarious ones too, with Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Isaac Hampstead Wright (Bran Star), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Nikolaj Coster Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Rory McCann (Sandor Clegane), and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) looking back on a decade of Thrones with their characters, from the first day on set to the end of season eight.
Before you jump into each individual character-focused interview, there’s an overview video weaving them all into a single featurette, highlighting the best answers about their first and favorite days on set, best scene partner, what they’ll miss the most, and more:
The individual interviews can be found in this playlist, where you’ll get to see these twelve cast members go deeper into their characters and their experience on the show than the above compilation of soundbites allows. I recommend watching them all.
Personally, the most compelling interviews are definitely with Emilia Clarke, who gets really personal and emotional (and made me even more emotional) discussing what Daenerys and Game of Thrones means to her; Iain Glen, who’s just as in love with Jorah’s old yellow shirt as we are; and Maisie Williams, who reminisces about working with Sophie Turner both in these final two seasons and all the way back in the pilot, with 10 year-old interview footage from cute little Maisie incorporated throughout.

Surprised Alfie Allen was excluded from this line-up. Would have been interested in hearing his experience with the show over the years, especially considering that Theon is such a challenging role.
Yellow shirt will live forever. So say we all.
Lena, take a bow! Brava!!!! Brava!!! Brava!!!
Again confirming that women can deliver when given meaty roles. Although you are beautiful, your performance is what made you stand-out as a valuable GOT asset!
And the scene with Mark Addy was stunning, setting us up to understand Cersei’s heartbreaking ( and self-harming) tale – good choice.
(╯︵╰,)
Awwww, this has left me kinda sad. And I was saving it for the actual end of the series!
And now it begins.
These posted on my YouTube subscription feed a couple of hours ago, and I’m pacing myself watching them throughout the day. What gems! 😊
If anyone is looking for spoilers, I can tell you that in these the cast remembers videos for Bran and Tyrion there are spoilers, if you pay attention.
A generation that will mark generations!
And now it ends 🙁
I just finished watching all of them. It saddens me even more that GoT is ending listening to all of them being genuinely sad that they’re done working on it too.
Really don’t think Alfie was excluded , just unavailable … for some reason…. All players from season 8 ..(Jacob Anderson and Nathalie Emmanuel not around either?). would like to see what Iwan Rheon has to say, he made a big impact and was in a lot of episodes , same with Aidan Gillen was there even longer, … well he did make the Red Carpet… O yes Charles Dance…… maybe this will be gotten to later?
Boojam,
Hopefully some of the others are involved in the documentary airing the Sunday a week after the finale.
There’s new music used in them.
Oh I just love them all!! I am so going to miss seeing them on our screens as an ensemble. You really do get the sense of family shining through from all of them. I was feeling sorry for myself than GOT will be over soon and I have adored it so much these past 8 years or so, but watching these guys speak makes me feel so bad for them. I can’t imagine how they must all be feeling. End of a way of life that seems to have been so beautifully rewarding. Good luck to them all in whatever they move on to do.
Oh I love them ❤️ So excited to see S8, but will miss the show and the cast terribly.
Rory @ 8:03 🤣
Just got to watch the video. Thanks for posting Luka. I choked up watching that, man I’m going to miss this show. It’s not just the experience of watching it. It’s the community and everything that goes along with it. Hope the box set is chock full of goodies like this.
Nikolaj: “I was like Bambi on the ice.” That’s not a connection that I would have made but I love him even more for saying it.
These videos are amazing. I am getting teary watching them. I’m not going to handle this well at all. Wow – I’m going to miss these characters (and this cast).
I always say that I will just assume everyone dies, to prepare myself for getting the rug pulled out from under me, but the truth is that I will feel something for ANY of the characters that die this season. They’ve been around for so long and are so ingrained in the show, that even the ones I don’t absolutely love will hit me hard. Augh.
I must admit, I teared up a bit watching these. This show truly is something special!
Sad to not see Theon/Alfie in all this. One of the most interesting characters and brilliant actors in GOT.
I noticed that Dianna Rigg was not at the premiere – I suppose she could not bother or was committed elsewhere.
She also nailed every scene! Brava!!!
not only Alfie but Gwendoline as well, these all seem to have been filmed before season 8 even started shooting, or while they were still preparing so perhaps both had other projects and couldn’t make it or reschedule…
Love that behind the scenes shot at 5:51 of Jon and Sam on the Wall. That’s movie magic in a nutshell.
I’m not ref. to these videos only. In general, there have been a lot of interviews. Never seen Alfie anywhere. I would’ve loved to see a decent interview with him and his thoughts on Theon.
Boojam,
I was surprised at no Gwendoline Christie.
Wow, watching that really made me feel a little sadness that it’s coming to an end As much as I want to find out how the last six episodes play out and how my favourite characters fair I also don’t want it to stop.
I’m also really disappointed in the lack of Alfie Allen interviews. I hope he’ll be interviewed in the documentary.
