1. Awesome! Glad to see they are starting the promotional stuff so soon. Hopefully, we’re still on track to get the first trailer in January!

2. Interesting that they use the three eyed raven theme to advertise a season that won’t make use of that storyline.

3. How does this new website work? Do they send people short teasers soon?
What can one do if you have neither a Twitter account nor is your country listed under “SMS” – Nothing?

4. I signed up for the SMS alerts…the confirmation text I received stated we’ll be getting 4 messages a month, nice!

5. For a ten-second long video that features just one shot of ‘new’ footage, that’s a pretty damn cool teaser. 🙂

Since we know that Bran’s storyline isn’t going to be in Season 5, it’s interesting that the first official marketing campaign is centered on the Three-Eyed Raven (he’s also going to be lending his name to the new Ommegang beer – the man’s staying quite busy for someone who’s anchored to a tree). Even more interesting is that the video is centered on Arya and

features the House of Black and White and the end.

The simplest explanation is that HBO just views ‘The Sight’ as a cool and apt name for a service that offers sneak peeks at the upcoming season. Melisandre’s voice-over telling Arya that “I see a darkness in you” certainly ties in with her upcoming storyline.

But if we want to get crazy and read more into it (and why the hell not – we don’t have anything else to parse at the moment), then

could this be a hint that the other Stark children start to discover their warging powers? We figured that Jon would would, but maybe Arya will as well.
6. 9 second teaser with 1 second of “new” material. Well I guess beggars can’t be choosers :).

Hope we get a real trailer in early January

7. Jared,

if the other Starks finally do start

warging it will be about time. Hopefully the reason why they cast Varamyr is too help Jon with his warging powers.
8. I signed up with Twitter and it didn’t tell me anything more specific, just that we’d hear from them blah blah blah, so it sounds like the SMS is more helpful. Good to know about the several months a month possibly.

9. Of the Night,

Ha, was just going to say this. Kind of like how S4 was all “The North Remembers” when

they cut the one moment that could possible refer to that.
10. Great to see the marketing machine has switched on. I guess we’ll see similar clips for all the other main characters before we get a trailer in a month or two —a succinct recap of their thematic journey so far followed by a tiny glimpse of what’s to come, which will probably only mean something for book readers.

I don’t get why people find it so strange that they’d use the Sight gimmick even though Bran won’t be in Season 5. It’s still a part of the show and a great way to foreshadow next season while still in-universe. A gimmick, but a good gimmick. Also, I don’t think it means anything like that the Stark kids will be getting their warg on, since we’ll probably see similar teasers about many other characters.

11. I was all set to sign up until it required giving them access to my followers and permission to post for me. Don’t like the sound of that one bit.

12. Jared,

I thought the same. This is the season that that particular thing needs to become a thing, ya know? Sorry, too lazy to tag on mobile.
Soooooo ready to see some teasers, trailers, premiere date–anything really.

13. Chebyshov:
Of the Night,

Ha, was just going to say this. Kind of like how S4 was all “The North Remembers” when

I don’t remember season 4 promos mentioning “The North Remembers”? The theme for season 4 was “All men must die”. One trailer being called “Vengeance” was, I think, the only thing that could be seen as referring to that, but vengeance does not necessarily mean for the Red Wedding, and could have been referring to Oberyn, or Arya regarding Polliver, or even Tyrion killing Tywin.

14. hmmmmmmmm interesting

I hope we will see some of Arya’s warging scenes and maybe even

Jon

it makes more sense now that they cast it Varymar

15. Tiny direwolf,

Those are pretty standard permissions for when you’re using Twitter to sign into something. I’ve never had a problem with a reputable site arbitrarily posting things on my twitter timeline.

16. Of the Night:
Interesting that they use the three eyed raven theme to advertise a season that won’t make use of that storyline.

We don’t really know about that. We know that Isaac Hempstead-Wright and Kristian Nairn haven’t filmed any scenes for this year but it doesn’t mean the storyline won’t be used. They’ve talked about unused scenes in interviews before and there’s a chance Hempstead-Wright has done some voicework so we might see

Starks warging and Theon’s scene with strong hints that Bran is behind everything
17. Hodorer,

D&D didn’t say in their interview that they didn’t have time or money to film Bran scenes. They said Season 5 would skip Bran entirely. They weren’t talking about production, but about the finished product.

18. The first shot of Arya oprning her eyes, I don’t remember that one.

Could it be

Arya becoming blind?
19. Luka Nieto,

I didn’t mention anything about time or money in my message. D&D have said that

they won’t show Bran’s training because it would not make good TV and that his storyline won’t advance in season 5 because they have to keep the timelines consistent

and that’s all they’ve said about Bran. It doesn’t mean that there will be no mentions or references to what’s going on and

since the trailer shows Arya and talks about the sight it makes sense to assume we’ll see how Bran affects other characters, we just won’t be seeing him
20. Hodorer,

You seem to misunderstand what the Sight and the Three-eyed raven is being used for here. It’s not about this particular teaser. It’s an overall gimmick for all the incoming short teasers —hence the site and the subscription; there will be more teasers, showing us some stuff from the future… you know, like the Sight can. It’s an in-universe way of doing marketing. It doesn’t mean anything in terms Arya’s story or the structure of the season, or the use of Bran or the raven. That is, unless you think they’ll change the whole “Sight” motif of this ad campaign when they do teasers about people who don’t warg at all, or unless you think there won’t be teasers about them. Which would make no sense. We’ll get teasers for other main characters, and they will all be under the Sight campaign.

21. Annara Snow,

it seems the promo line is always something we learn at the end of the season…seaosn three was valar marghulis and in season 2 finale we heard it from jaquen, north remembers we heard at the end of season three with tyrion…three eyes raven we finally see at the end of season 4 with bran

22. Luka Nieto,

Of course it’s a gimmick but it would be a stupid gimmick to use if they skipped the storyline it references to entirely in the next season. And if you read what D&D said about Bran it was pretty carefully worded just to say they won’t be going further than the books in the story. The other option would be to

skip Arya’s warging (and with Varamyr introduced in the northern plot it’d be sorta odd to skip that bit) as well as Theon and the heart tree and it’s too early to say definitively that they will be skipped because we don’t know how important to the story they end up being
23. Hodorer,

I get the feeling you ignored all the other stuff I said. This is just a way to tie the concept of a “teaser” to the GoT universe. The Sight, seeing the future, like in a trailer. Nothing more, nothing less. How do I know that? As I said, because they’ll obviously be using it for all the other characters, including all those who have nothing to do with warging, the sight or any supernatural stuff. You’re just seeing what you want. First, because D&D don’t handle the ad campaigns directly. Second, because all GoT advertisement campaigns so far have used concepts from previous seasons, not from the one actually being advertised (Valar Morghulis, the North Remembers.)

When “The North Remembers” was used somewhere in a teaser for Season 4, everyone assumed it could only mean LSH would be in.

It didn’t. Of course it didn’t. It was a reference to Tyrion’s words in season 3’s finale (“The North will never forget.”) Similarly, this is not a tease about anything in Season 5, even if they indeed include references and other stuff to Bran. It’s just an ad campaign.

24. matt:
Annara Snow,

it seems the promo line is always something we learn at the end of the season…seaosn three was valar marghulis and in season 2 finale we heard it from jaquen, north remembers we heard at the end of season three with tyrion…three eyes raven we finally see at the end of season 4 with bran

Valar Morghulis – All Men Must Die was the promo for season 4, together with the image of a three-eyed raven and a literal storm of swords.

I don’t remember “The North Remembers” ever being used in season 4 promos.

25. Annara Snow,

True, it was season 2, in the context of Ned dying, wasn’t it? Still, the point stands. This Sight thing is a whole ad campaign HBO cooked up; the fact that this is the element of the universe that is being used to deploy these teasers is telling us nothing about Arya’s or anyone else’s journey next season. That’s what the teasers themselves are for. The Sight thing is just a gimmicky framework.

Still, it remains true that people argued that “The North Remembers” being used as a tagline and episode title for Season 2 meant that

LSH would eventually be included.

That I do distinctly remember. They were wrong. I’m pretty sure some people are arriving at similarly erroneous conclusions based on what some HBO marketing guys came up with to advertise this season.

26. I can’t wait to see Arya’s storyline on screen. I hope they stick fairly close to the books. Even if

The Kindly Man will somehow be replaced and I’m ok with that… if Jaqen is the replacement.
27. OT but GoT centric…I was browsing the typical post weekend sports columns which I do every week and came across this article by Spencer Hall of SB nation, the concluding paragraph provides a free GoT endorsement (concerning the Ep. 9 famous fight). I have attached a link to the web page after the copy of the reporters quote.

…”I wanted to tell Seminole fans the same — that no one can properly point to the moment when you gave up on enjoying winning, and began to weigh the present against unattainable, sometimes imaginary pasts. I wanted to, for just a moment with the “Game of Thrones” theme blaring in the background and have some sympathy for the bad guy, or at least those watching the bad guy. That’s how the story ends: The Mountain wins, but ends up getting poisoned in the process and dying a prolonged death no one thought he’d ever meet. That’s not just a Florida State metaphor here. That’s for anyone whose team ends up playing the villain, and who discovers just how dark it gets when you go for the throne.” – Hall, Spencer. SB nation. Vox Media Nov. 25

28. My inner pedant had a hissy fit as Watchers on the Wall was my all time favourite episode. Sorry.

As a side note, like me, do any of you think that Black and White door at the end of the clip could be the entrance to Deepwood Motte!

29. Hello Mr/Mrs .Sight! Hope you have a good holiday.

I was wondering since you can see a lot of stuff; Do you know where Benjen is? If so, would you do a double take just in case you can see Gendry? Thank’s ahead 4 ya. Merry Xmas

XOXO

30. Patchface:
At the risk of sounding deliberately cryptic again, I can confirm that one of the major characters in the books that we thought had been excluded from the series has indeed made it to the show, and the actor/actress is shooting in Belfast as we speak. I’d be surprised if word of this doesn’t get out between now and the first week of December.

I’m as surprised as everyone (will be), to be honest.

Please let it be Shitmouth.

31. You know what, assuming Patchface that your cryptic information is correct we could narrow it down by working out who is in Belfast filming right now.

Shireen is there, Mel is there, NW are there so it could be north related.
Also appears that Some Dorne actor peeps are there too so it could be Dorne related.

Marge/Tommen finished, nothing from the Essos Camp so probs not KL or Dany/Tyrion which should rule out the Griffs!

I really can’t see them casting Arianne/Quentyn, so it could be Manderly/LS or possibly something off the wall like Euron or something that sucks the shit out of a dead mans arse like Darkstar.

Am I even warm?

32. Oh and Greenjones, do me a favour and find out who nigel o’neill is will you?

And Lacy Moore.

*edit* Actually scratch that, you’ve already found them, I thought he was a supersize fat guy but I’m wrong.

33. ctid,

Lacy Moore is “Madam Braavos”. I posted that here and on AFOIAF a few days ago IIRC.
http://www.spotlight.com/interactive/cv/1/F75852
She’s featuring in a David Nutter-episode. A few others and myself speculated that she and her girls (likely Lhara too) will likely play a part in

Meryn Trant’s death

.

That bit of info’s been on GoT wiki for a few days now too BUT…in my next comment we have some actual news…

34. Patchface,

Finally Strong Belwas!

Or wait, I know. They added a well-endowed male sex worker to one of the brothel scenes, named Mottehintias, but everyone refers to him as Deepwood Motte.

35. Luka Nieto,

But that’s just it, you don’t know. You might wish or think something but none of us actually knows. Your examples aren’t very good since we’re talking about an established character, not someone that hasn’t been a part of the show but some people want to see. I have no idea how saying Three-Eyed Raven might be relevant in the upcoming season makes you emotional enough to start condescending and writing flat out hostile messages you quickly edit to be more palatable. It’s pretty weird.

36. Hodorer,

I tend to edit all my comments. I do a first pass then I’ll reread and rewrite. Sometimes that means toning down disrespectful language. I didn’t think anyone cared or even noticed. Sorry if it’s weird or inconvenient :/

Also, I would actually like Bran to be sort of a “presence” next season, even if he’s not actually there, as we know he’s not. Kind of a tease of that’s to come with him in Season 6, so that people remain interested. In fact, I think they may do it. I just don’t think this marketing campaign is deliberately pointing to it; I just think they’re “doing a thing” with a part of the established universe.

BTW, Baratheon General added to the Wiki, Greenjones. Lately I am usually who adds these guys you find and creates their respective pages.

37. According to Carey Dodd Associates, both Ian Whyte and Adam Basil are both currently shooting Game of Thrones. Whyte’s Spotlight CV hasn’t been updated, but we know he played a giant in season 4, and it seems likely he’s back for season 5 in some role as well.

Basil is an actor and stunt performer, and has two season 5 stunt credits listed on IMDb, but considering he’s being repped by an acting agency it points to him being a stunt actor (so likely a line or a decent amount of screentime).

38. Patchface,

So, candidates…

Euron
Victarion
LSH
Griff
Young Griff
Arianne

Who did I leave out? Not very awake yet…

If it is just one person that may rule out the Griffs as they would likely be a pair, though not necessarily,

39. ctid:
Shireen is there, Mel is there, NW are there so it could be north related.

I was wondering if the nw/north storyline actors were in town, cause two days ago I saw lots of activity going on at the Magheramorne quarry, seemed like they were getting ready to film something soon.

40. james rivers,

As ctid pointed out, some of those characters can possibly be ruled out just by considering which storylines are being filmed in Belfast right now. This is all assuming Patchface is right to begin with, of course.

The Northern storyline is being filmed right now, so it could be

Manderly or someone like that

. Same with Dorne, so maybe Arianne… though I doubt it very much, at this point.

Probably not the Griffs, since the Essos actors are not in Belfast that we know of. Could be the Greyjoy uncles.

Anyway, this is all assuming Patchface is right / not trolling, of course. We’ll surely see characters we didn’t know we were going to see anyway, so it’s not an increadibly difficult think to make up and be right about.

41. Granting them access to update my profile and send tweets, or some SMS system that is probably NA-specific…. what happened to good old e-mail?

42. james rivers,

I’m putting my money on Euron. However, I don’t know if ‘we’ particularly he would be excluded. If not Euron, I’m hoping for young Griff. I don’t personally care that much for LSH, Arianne seems very unlikely.

.

43. Patchface,

Daniel Portman and Gwen are filming in Belfast right now. Please let it be the silent sister!
I’ve read too much spoilers about Dorne that I don’t care about Arianne and the Dornish stuff anymore

44. After a really crummy night shift…this is like a balm on my soul! oh yeah and neeeerrrddddddggggaaaaaasssssmmmmm !!!!

Can’t wait! Maybe we’ll get a trailer sometime in December!

Winter Is Coming! Indeed!

45. Daphne:
Patchface,

Daniel Portman and Gwen are filming in Belfast right now. Please let it be the silent sister!
I’ve read too much spoilers about Dorne that I don’t care about Arianne and the Dornish stuff anymore

Are they? Link please. I need proof and want to believe that are. That would be an impressive hint.

46. jaimereborn,

There were several sightings of Gwen and Daniel in Belfast yesterday posted on twitter. Daniel was seen at Europa Hotel. Maybe the cast is staying there. So far, from what I’ve read from various sources around the net (mostly twitter and instagram haha!) the following characters/actors are in Belfast: Melisandre, Davos, Jaime, Sand Snakes, Brienne, Pod.

47. also if it is indeed a ‘major character’ from the books, they would have no reason not to announce it unless the character is intended to be a shock reveal or secret. even more evidence for

LSH.
48. Well if we add Bri Pod into the mix along with Davos, Dorne and Mel/Shireen/NW we could have the basic options I outlined above:

Manderly (through Davos)
LSH (Through Bri/Pod)
Val (Through Mel/NW)
I’m not sure regarding Dorne as I am 100% convinced that Quent/Arianne are out so all I can imagine is Darkstar which would probably suck.

Could easily be another of course and again this is taking Patchface‘ cryptic comment at face value.

49. ctid,

I’m not sure we could really see

Val as a ‘major character’. I assume by major he means POV, which makes the only real candidates for me LSH or Victarion. At a stretch, it may be Euron or Manderly.
50. jaimereborn,

Can’t see the point of including

Victarion and I agree with you regarding Val

but I can’t think of anybody else from the wall that would count (Unless it’s the actual Patchface).

51. Patchface,

“one of the major characters in the books that we thought had been excluded from the series has indeed made it to the show”

Gyles Rosby confirmed!!!

And you won´t tell who it is…., why?

53. Greenjones,

Oh, and I’ve already said it on AFOIAF, but again here:

Thanks for the find! 😀
(Battle! Of! Ice!! Battle! Of! Ice!!… We need a commie-emoticon here)

54. Well, it depends on:
1) what definition of “major character” Patchface is using, and
2) how literally we should take Patchface’s statement that “everyone” thought this character was cut. A lot of people assumed, for instance, that

Manderly was cut, and even that fArya was cut, even though that would completely mess up the storyline and makes no sense, but not “everyone” assumed that. And it’s questionable if either can be called major characters (as opposed to Arianne, for instance). Same with Val, though I really doubt it’s her since I don’t see her having nearly as an important role in the plot, unless she becomes really crucial in TWOW. Almost everyone assumed that LS was cut, but quite a few people have changed their opinion after D&D’s reaction to the LS question at the comic con. Most people are assuming that Damphair and Victarion have been cut, who technically are major characters, but it’s really unlikely it’s Victarion, unless his trip to Essos is delayed, which would be odd timeline-wise.
If I were to guess:
fArya is definitely in, Euron is in, Lady Stoneheart probably in, Wyman Manderly may be in and may be who Patchface is referring to (unless it’s LS he’s referring to), Damphair is a long shot, Val a very, very long shot. Victarion is only 0.0001% likely. In any case, it’s definitely not Arianne, or Quentyn. That ship has sailed when they announced Trystane as Doran’s heir, and in Quentyn’s case, there’s also the fact that they finished the Essos shooting. Ditto for the Griffs.

55. Patchface,

My guess is either

Arianne or Manderly

considering the two arcs currently filming at the sound stages or outdoors somewhere in N. Ireland. More than likely the later, the wild card would be

Euron

. I believe

LS is gone, as it will have more impact with Mel raising you know who.
56. This clip makes me wonder if they are going to use Arya

running with Nymeria’s pack as Arya, not Nymmeria

a visual motif for showing this particular Stark talent.

On the possibility of Val coming back (although I do NOT consider her to be a major character! However, I don’t consider any of the other candidates mentioned here to be major characters, either), I confess that I am very much of two minds here. On one lobe, I really liked Val’s character in the book, and I thought that she was an extremely useful representation of the Wildlings and the clash between Wildling and Westerosian culture. Part of me would have liked to have seen that because “allied enemies” is a recurring theme in these stories.

On the other lobe, I worry that it wouldn’t work so soon after Ygritte. Jon+Ygritte was done extremely well on TV. Val’s and Jon’s fairly intense relationship might seem a pale rivalry.

(I would have gotten a kick out of watching Val basically dare Jon to try to steal her away, and Jon not get that it was an invitation, not a threat!)
57. Mr Fixit:
What exactly did D&D say or imply regarding

LS

at the Comic Con?

Nothing. The person was not allowed to finish the question. The panel moderator, Craig Ferguson, said something to the effect, go there quickly and shut him up. They had no problem answering the question about Tysha and explaining why they cut this subplot, so it’s not like they didn’t want to answer any questions about the changes and cuts from the book.

58. tyjon: My guess is either

Arianne or Manderly
considering the two arcs currently filming at the sound stages or outdoors somewhere in N. Ireland.

Arianne seems very improbable. I would bet that
Arianne + Quentyn are being merged into Trystane:

he will be the one trying to “kill the child, become the adult” by going from mere prince to Queenmaker in the way that both Arianne and Quentyn try to do in the books..

59. Luka Nieto,

What this guy said.

You guys are all daft if you think this ties in, in ANY way, to the plotlines of the show.

It’s simply a marketing gimmick.

60. Of the Night:
Interesting that they use the three eyed raven theme to advertise a season that won’t make use of that storyline.

Almost like how ‘The North Remembers’ was season 4’s tagline.

Then LS was left out.

lol

61. Patchface,

Sorry, Patfchface… I wished strongly you were a troll, just because you stated that

LS was probably cut
. Later, some of your info was proven wrong (e.g. Volantis not being part of S5). To me, you are assuming/predicting things from little tidbits. Greenjones recently noted that an actress was cast as a Female Wildling. Now in Belfast, The Wall is being filmed… so, it is somewhat probable that D&D finally decided to cast Val… and I you ask me, that’s all for you.

Some part of me still wants to believe you, and even beyond, I hope you are referring to my beloved
UnCat

62. Just for the sake of putting the info out there:

Resurrection, the ABC show that Michelle Fairley stars on currently, has been filming its 2nd season in Atlanta since August and continues to film well into December.

She’s been doing lots of interviews on the set as recently as a few days ago.

63. King Tommen,

It is good to know. But I don’t think that it is needed more than two days (including arrival) to shoot a scene where

a hooded woman uncovers her face and then PUM! End of Season.
64. i don´t get why most of you want

LS in the show.

Her introduction in the books worked as an anticlimax that took away the shock after the Red wedding.

It kinda ment noone can truly die anymore in the books where there is a red preist around, like Jon chapter 13 DWD ….

65. dragonreborn:
smitzzz,

I’m still lmao for that fake trailer in HBO Nordic!
we could build empires…

Ahah , what was even more hilarious was that so many people actually believed it was the real deal .

66. I’m really liking the look of those doors

. I wonder who the next “sight” teaser will focus on? I’ll take a shot in the dark and guess the next one will be Cersei.

Patchface,

I’m Spartacus!

67. Moderator,

Someone is impersonating me! Is there something you can do about it? I am the original Patchface (you can check my IP as well as the email address – which is fake by I always use the same email when posting). It’s not a big deal, but I do not like my “name” and “reputation” be “trashed”, for whatever it counts…

To everyone else, I am the original Patchface and I have not posted on this site for at least a month (since the Volantis debacle) for obvious reasons. I will not be posting in the near future, so do ignore any impersonators…

The plot thickens.

Whats a “volantis debacle”? I seem to have missed it.

69. Patchface is a troll. It took me a while to accept it but I have. He/she was proven wrong about a thing or two and ever since has refused to make any outright claims, keeping things vague so that they can’t be proven wrong. And saying that word will get out soon is an obvious ploy so that as soon as any real news does come out, Patchface can just jump in and say that it was that being referred to. So Patchface, on the ever decreasing chance you are not a fake, if you have something to say then say it. Be specific and face the risk of being shown to be wrong. Either that or go away and stop wasting people’s time.

70. Patchface,

Geez, what a pain in the butt. I went back to a much earlier comment (in another thread) by the original Patchface and yes, the new person, let’s call them fPatchface, is a troll and they posted the “cryptic” statement that has everyone excited. I’m going to delete anything this fPatchface has written.

71. Hoyti Von Totiy,

A long time ago, I have disputed a report that a certain brothel in the series will be located in Volantis. Later on, I reported that my contacts have seen no mention of Volantis in their work related to the production, hence I deduced there will be no Volantis. However, D&D have mentioned in an interview that the Cordoba bridge will stand for the bridge Volantis. Obviously, I will I was wrong, though my sources insist they have seen no mention of the name. I will be curious to see if Volantis will ever appear in the opening credits…

For all other things, I stand by my reports, they have been accurate. I will however not post again.

@ofthe Night
Believe what you want, I don’t really care. I have reported whatever information I acquired, some were vague indeed, but many were very specific… My friends had limited access to info themselves, so… anyway, thanks for the nice words…

72. Patchface,

I wrote that before reading that you had been impersonated and it was based on the more recent posts by the fake. I then apologized in my next post.

73. Dame Pasty:

74. Strider,

It doesn’t surprise me for one simple reason. The Tysha cut had a very simple explanation, and had a lot to do with some general rules of book -> screen adaptation. Tysha never was shown and thus wasn’t anything in the minds of the TV audience (excluding book readers with good memories, of course). TV viewers would not have understood why it was an issue, particularly given the way that the show had developed Shae: it was much more obvious there that she was a major (albeit not the sole) issue. (I know that there was the idea that

Tysha is the prostitute encountered in Crows who only sleeps with a man after a wedding; however, even if that is her, then the earliest that Tyrion will cross paths with her again will be Season 6; moreover, unless they found a way to put her on screen, it wouldn’t mean much with the audience: the face, not the name, is the character on screen.

)

With the other, there is still some chance that she will return, and it’s possible that the show has something quite different in mind about how to use her. Really, the only thing we can say is that under both “she’s cut” and “she’ll be in when she’s appropriate” scenarios, we expect what we’ve got: she’s not present yet. The only thing we know is that they aren’t going to re-introduce her before she is relevant.

Personally, I think that we are wasting an opportunity to consider how B&W might portray Arya this year! She is one of the most interesting protagonists in the series, and she presents some interesting challenges for page->screen adaptation. This trailer points to some possible solutions to at least one of these.

75. james rivers,

Nope, it was not me. In fact, I have no idea what you are talking about… As far as I remember my last post was in the D&D interview re Cordoba bridge… I do not understand what people have to gain by resorting to such petty acts, trolling and impersonating…For whatever is worth, I’ve done all my reports in good faith…

76. Greenjones,

I posted the links above sorry it did not appear immediately, the post says it was awaiting moderation.

Spoiler warning. (Can’t make the code to work ugh.)

I still wish the silent sister will appear, but I do not think she will. At the recent Comikaze Gwen answered the question about LSH.. Gwen said she ‘would love the opportunity to work with Michelle Fairley again’.. which most likely means Gwen is not working with her in Season 5.
77. Dame Pasty,

Not saying fPatchface doesn’t exist, but a different IP and a different e-mail is not prove that he/she does. IPs (and obviously e-mails) can easily be changed around. – The best “prove” I supposed would be if the IP of fPatchface/Patchface is always the same, but there is still the possibility that he/she is routing through the same VPN, SmartDNS or what have you.

78. Abyss:

It’s easy to identify me (the original Patchface), I am using the same email address in the required fields (it’s a fake email BTW) I have always used and the fake Patchface does not know it. Also, my IP comes from Northern Europe…

79. Patchface,

Just to be clear again, I’m not saying Patchface and fPatchface are one and the same, but if they are it goes without saying that fPatchface would know everything that Patchface does, hence the points you brought up don’t prove anything. 😉

80. Patchface,

Any chance you could let us know what you have reported in the past. The memory fails as to exactly what was pre the Volantis thing and there are a lot of articles to sift through. This is of course assuming the fake didn’t start before then too. What was you?

81. Abyss,

I see now what you mean, but honestly do you REALLY believe anyone would do such a thing? So, in your opinion, I intentionally posted with the same name, using a different IP address (for what purpose?)!??!??! Forgive me, but that’s paranoia at its best…

My guess is fake Patchface is a regular on this board who has posted previously with a different name and can be easily identified by IP…

Anyway, this is truly my LAST post, just FYI…

@oftheNight
sorry man, that’s a lot to write and I have better things to do for the moment and I do not think it’s appreciated anyway… peace!

82. Tiny direwolf:
I was all set to sign up until it required giving them access to my followers and permissionto post for me. Don’t like the sound of that one bit.

I agree. I was about to do it but then paused. Came back here to read the comments to see what others thought.

83. Patchface,

No, I don’t believe that. I think it’s a little bit too much trouble for a little bit of trolling (but not that much, a child can hide/fake IPs just by using the right browser add-on). I think I made it clear that I’m not trying to attack you here. I just wanted to point out that a different IP does not prove a different person. No hard feelings. 🙂

84. Patchface,

Seriously Patchface, people wouldn’t imitate you if you didn’t have an air of legitimacy. It’s a massive compliment when you think about it.

85. Wimsey,

I didn’t say it surprised me. But that part with the

LS

question was weird. Initially they’ve mentioned if I recall correctly that they won’t be talking about characters/storylines that were cut. Tysha was cut. And they talked about it.

I perfectly understand your point. It was one that I have reached myself after watching how awkward/odd the whole scene was shushing the audience member who attempted to ask the question. But it did feel weird after seeing how freely they spoke about cutting Tyrion’s wife.

86. I’m willing to give Patchface the benefit of the doubt and I don’t agree that he’s been found out as fake at all. He’s also clearly a fan who likes to speculate with the rest of us. I’d like him to stay but I’m certainly not going to kiss his arse to do so.

Grow a pair man, a bit of scepticism is very healthy, has uncovered many fakes and I think taking anything on a notice board personally is pointless.

87. Strider:

Tysha was never cut from the show. She certainly exists in show canon and Tyrion has mentioned her on multiple occasions throughout the series. All they did was make a decision for him not to have a conversation about her fate in that scene. That was a decision they were comfortable explaining. There’s also the detail that Tysha isn’t really a character in the series as much of a concept or a story that our protagonists refer to. It’s easier to explain why Tyrion’s backstory isn’t being as fleshed out as it was in the books than it is to talk about why or why not an actor or actress and their character may or may not be returning/introduced.

88. King Tommen,

if I recall correctly that they won’t be talking about characters/storylines that were cut. Tysha was cut.

Her storyline/impact on Tyrion’s was definitely cut. When I said Tysha was cut, that’s what I meant really as Tysha was a memory in the books too and not a current living character. I thought it is self explanatory. Obviously not.

As to the easiness or logical reasoning for talking about her part in the Jaime/Tyrion/Tywin dynamic being cut as part of a past storyline vs a possible future inclusion of

LS

: I also said I got to the same conclusion as Wimsey here

I perfectly understand your point. It was one that I have reached myself after watching how awkward/odd the whole scene was shushing the audience member who attempted to ask the question.

It doesn’t change the feeling I’ve got when I saw the panel.

89. StandOzone,

We know he was in Belfast a few times (not just for TitanCon) and that he said he finished two projects recently, presumably s5 and that movie there, Eden. Around the time he said he was done shooting something (and was in Belfast), the fellow who plays Tommen was there too and posted about wrapping for the year too… so I’d say he’s in.

90. StandOzone,

Just an FYI for the people asking: This was one of the things Patchface stated. He said, if I recall correctly, that Kevan and Lancel would be back, he talked about Manderly sigils being spotted and maany other things. It’s nearly 2 a.m. where I live so I wont bother looking now but eventually I might search for things he said because I honestly think he is legit.

91. Haterofbookpurists:
Strider,

It may have had something to do with the fact that the audience was specifically told not to ask things from future books yet the idiots did it anyway, the Tysha thing is something that already happened so that’s why they could talk about it .

The revelation of LS’s existence has also already happened and is not from the future books.

92. The level of trolling at this website has really gone down. I’m really disappointed with the lack of creativity and effort.

93. Of the Night:
Of the Night,

New Patchface is definitely troll.

This web-site needs more good trolls to keep it fun in these times when news are scarce.

Elsewhise all we´d been reading is bit*hing about lack of that Pyke filler plot noone normal cares about. Same with Dorne, Riverlands and Mereen … all filler created by GRRM in his writers block.

94. Ser Dosser: Same with Dorne, Riverlands and Mereen … all filler created by GRRM in his writers block.

It wasn’t quite filler: the things that the protagonists were doing in those places all contributed to the story quite well. It just didn’t do much to further the over-arching plots. It certainly could have been a lot more concise, that is to be certain.

(In particular, I do wish that he’d moved existing protagonists to the “new” places and not given us new ones, as the new ones all fell flat for me.)

95. Wimsey,

Agree. ASOIAF is the story of the 7 kingdoms of Westeros. It would be idiotic if GRRM never expanded upon the Iron Islands or Dorne. You might disagree with his execution but to not take us there at all would have been a disservice to his tale.

96. Turncloak,

I wouldn’t call it a story about the 7 Kingdoms; it’s a story set largely but not entirely there. If you were to lump the existing stories into one “superstory,” then I would say that it’s a story about conflicting senses of right/wrong and wrong/right for “broken” people: i.e., women, bastards, dwarves and cripples.

97. Lion of Night,

dont be silly. it will be one of the ‘favorites’ like Dany, Jon or Tyrion. Kinda surprised they used Ayra since she isn’t one of the Tri-fecta of Fan Adoration.

98. Ser Matt the Sullen: dont be silly. it will be one of the ‘favorites’ like Dany, Jon or Tyrion.

Gee, the fact that those are the three most primary protagonists in the series wouldn’t have anything to do with any of these issues, would it? (As for Arya, she’s probably #4, and she definitely has a fan following, too.)

99. Turncloak,

Wimsey,

I think wimsey’s onto it. The ‘plot’ of the story is irrelevant – it’s fiction, none of this ever actually happened, so what does the ‘plot’ matter? The thing that intrigues me about ASOIAF is that it’s a mirror, it’s a story about humanity and its seemingly insurmountable foibles, hence the vast array of characters scattered across the globe. Each is useful in providing a unique perspective, not of the narrative, but of humanity in all its ugly flavours. For me, it’s not important in the slightest who ends up on the iron throne, whether the Starks get their revenge – in fact, nothing’s really more ‘important’ than anything else, just like in life, where all value and importance is pure projection.
Each character is a different blend of archetypes, we’re supposed to put ourselves in their shoes – thus the POV’s – and try and relate their circumstances to our own lives, westeros is our world, with a bit of filigree to make it more palatable as a ‘story’. It’s alleagorical, but with no specific reference point – our whole world is the reference point! Does that make any sense? Haha, my syntax + vocabulary really fails me sometimes…

100. Ser Matt the Sullen,

I mean, we’re expecting a handful of them to be released right? I’m just placing my bet on the next one. So which of the three you mentioned is it gonna be? If Arya was a surprise choice for you, perhaps the next one will be too!

101. FWIW(not much, perhaps), count me among those who believes there’s some credibility to Patchface’s info. It’s discouraging that there apparently exists an imposter.

102. Wimsey: Gee, the fact that those are the three most primary protagonists in the series wouldn’t have anything to do with any of these issues, would it?(As for Arya, she’s probably #4, and she definitely has a fan following, too.)

I was at the Epic Fan Experience early showing of S4E1, and judging by the audience reactions, I have to concur: Arya definitely has a strong following.

103. So….can we stop worrying/speculating about what B&W won’t show and start concentrating on what they do show?

104. Greenjones,

Either she’ll go with her two younger sisters to King’s Landing (maybe as a “princeguard” for Trystane?), or she’ll stay with Doran in Dorne. It’s probably the latter, because Doran must have people to talk to in Season 6, and maybe in that season Obara could take some of Arianne’s story, since she also was left behind begrudgingly at the end of ADWD… then again, we know she will have already gone to meet Aegon by the time TWOW begins, and Aegon is a no-show in the show (ha-ha-ha), so if Obara stays she’ll probably have a completely different role from Arianne’s. So maybe she’ll go with her sisters. Who knows!

One of the things that interests me the most about the Dornish plot in season five is where it will end. Will it follow the books, with the Sand Snakes accompanying Myrcella and Trystane to the capital, in order to take positions of power and influence? Or will it be completely different? I don’t care that most of the plot will be changed, with Jaime being there and all, but I do hope the ending remains the same, because I want at least some of the Dornish to interact more with the main characters in King’s Landing for Season 6. GRRM promised there would be a lot of the Sand Snakes in TWOW, so I imagine they’ll be out to good use in the capital. That’s what I’m most looking forward to. In a way, Season 5 (and AFFC/ADWD) is just a setup of the Dornish plot.

105. Luka Nieto,

Form-fitting breastplates aside, I hope that the Sand Snakes are depicted with a bit more depth than second generation extensions of Inigo Montoya’s vengeance paradigm. I’m actually more fascinated with what they do with Ellaria this season than the SS.

Still having issues with Trystane as a boy-toy closet Targ, if that is indeed the planned passive plot shift. Waiting anxiously to be convinced…or if this is a red herring.
106. Hodor’s Bastard,

No way that Trystane is Griff, but he still might assume his role. I personally doubt it, but we’ll probably know by the end of season 5 where he is headed in the show (at least moderately).

107. jentario,

If in one of the climactic moments of ep10 T removes his wig to reveal platinum locks, I may either jump for nonsensical joy or throw my “Valar Morghulis” glass at the TV screen. 😛

108. BTW this marketing gimmick (which is pretty neat) just makes me more disappointed that they cut Bran’s training :/

109. jentario,

I personally believe the showrunners were so embarrassed by how BR & the lone CotF were depicted in S4ep10 that they got rid of AG and the Bran storyline in S5. 🙂 Brief glimpses of B’s training throughout S5 would be fascinating, imho. At least they included the great line “…but you will fly…” in the ep10 dialogue.

Given that….I am still holding out hope that a few weirwoods throughout Westeros may prove insightful to a few other storylines throughout S5, leaving us wondering where the insight is coming from….

110. Hodor’s Bastard: Form-fitting breastplates aside, I hope that the Sand Snakes are depicted with a bit more depth than second generation extensions of Inigo Montoya’s vengeance paradigm

There are too many of them for any to get much character development. It’s not like they are protagonists of any sort (never mind of any import). Even in the books, they basically get only cursory development: indeed, the only thing that I really remember about them is that they were all hell-bent on revenge! As Arianne is cut, that means that they probably will be foils for Trystane instead.

(As for the breast plate, isn’t that appropriate? I seem to recall that Dornish women are considered lewd and wanton by other Westorsians, and that would help flaunt this aspect of their culture.)

jentario: No way that Trystane is Griff, but he still might assume his role. I personally doubt it, but we’ll probably know by the end of season 5 where he is headed in the show (at least moderately).

That strikes me as very implausible, too. I would bet that Trystane is going to fulfill Arianne’s and Quentyn’s roles:

the “child” stepping up to “adult” by playing Queenmaker

. Obviously, he cannot take Griff’s role as in DwD that was just to

get Tyrion to start climbing back to being Tyrion.

.

As for Griff’s future roll, well, we haven’t read Winter yet, but a Martell won’t cut it! That roll is going to be some major foil for Dany, and possibly Arya & Sansa, too: Dany might

wrestle with primogeniture, but ultimately she’ll decide that she’s earned Queenship; however, we know that Westerosians will take a man over a woman, and even have laws on the book about it.

I suspect that it will become a Stark issue, too:

I can easily see Arya getting swept up into Dany’s train (the two have much in common), and I can see Sansa throwing her lot in with Aegon: Sansa might be evolve substantially from the air-headed romance novel fan of the first few books, but the handsome lost-prince would strike a chord even with Maleficent Stark in the same way that the powerful self-made woman would strike a chord with Arya).

. Thus, the next Dance of Dragons might very well include a Waltz of Wolves, too: particularly when a third claimant (oh, and with that

Y Chromosome criterion that Westerosians love so much

probably in the train of the third side in this conflict!

(And, yes, I realize that he might be important for Jon, too: but it’s much less obvious as to how he might be.)

Upshot? A Martell can’t be used for that!

Hodor’s Bastard: Have they done the purple eyes in the show with V & D?

Too many actors have problems with colored contact lenses, and very light ones (like Targaryen eyes would require) are especially tough on eyes. Add to that the problem that all the different lighting that they use for different scenes alters people’s (apparent) eye colors a lot on the finished product, and it almost becomes pointless, anyway.

111. Hodor’s Bastard,

Given that Sarine Sofair and Braavos Madam (the recently cast Lacy Moore who appears in a David Nutter episode btw) were shooting in N.I. recently, I guess Trant drops by the old bathhouse before getting Needled (or even gets killed THERE if they go the same creepy, sexual Arya route as in the Mercy chapter). Also maybe they have a Braavos street set built for some canal stuff (wishful thinking on my part probably).
112. Wimsey,

Just saw your response (it must have been awaiting moderation for a while).

My breastplate comment was more aligned with other observations that point out that “nippled-out” breastplates are not very battle-savvy, as they redirect blades to the heart. But the titillation/distraction factor must not be ignored!

Since I read TWoI&F, I would not be surprised if the Martells have an even stronger connection to the Targs than previously thought (like a certain son’s heart still beating among them). Many of the Martells and Daynes are direct descendants of the original Nymeria. With the RV/Elia emotional connection to bolster events, I can see a blatant “Griff” connection as part of the show’s conservation of story. BUT…it will take a lot of convincing and plot manipulation to do so.

I hope they bring forward the Dornish political idea of women rulers (also derived from Nymeria). Much can be done with the Queenmaker plot with that in mind, regardless of who is “show-swapped” to direct it.

I do hope at least one of the SS is brought forth as an interesting game player….another Nymeria perhaps? I just like that name….

Finally, come on, Wimsey…G/YG’s roles in ADwD were much more than to simply bolster Tyrion’s arc. GRRM started a major new thread there….hopefully leading to the next dance of dragons…
113. Hodor’s Bastard,

Ah, but laying the ground work for #6 is not the same as the purpose in #5! I agree with you entirely that GRRM has introduced a major new thread. And as someone who was in the

the bashed brained baby was not Aegon school

as far back as 1999 or so, it was one that I was anticipating for a while! (Of course, it wasn’t that long in terms of books, just in terms of years….)

However, their role that they fulfilled in #5 was purely for Tyrion.

By the way, I suspect that the Nymeria motif is going to be important. The show actually has called a little more attention to this sort of thing: Arya’s exchange with Tywin emphasizes the importance that she places on Visenya and Rhaenys as well as on Vhagar and Meraxes: but to Tywin, they were just Aegon’s sisters and their two dragons. My guess is that Trystane will use this general theme in the same way that his sister does in the books. (This is a big reason why I think he’s going to be an amalgam of his book sister and brother with a healthy dose of his uncle.)

As for what nipples on breast plates might do, whoever suggested that it would cause blows to slide towards the heart either didn’t know much about anatomy, or assumed Grinch sized hearts! Having breast plate cut for a woman’s chest would alter that substantially: blows to the left side would (if anything) be deflected away from the heart by that armor regardless of whether or not there was a nipple on it. At any rate, any blow that would be affected by that small addition of armor would not be hard enough to get through plate of any decent design or condition. People wearing plate tended to die from wounds landed where plate didn’t protect (particularly necks and under arms, or between plates), not from shearing through it! Crossbows created an exception: but, again, a nipple isn’t going to affect that much.

114. Wimsey:
Hodor’s Bastard,

Ah, but laying the ground work for #6 is not the same as the purpose in #5!I agree with you entirely that GRRM has introduced a major new thread. And as someone who was in the

as far back as 1999 or so,

…except that

fAegon is a Blackfyre! 🙂

One other thing…my Valyrian steel sword laughs at your “piercing armor” comment! Hah!

115. Hodor’s Bastard,

Furry’s love for Goldberry will allow him to withstand the pain of any X, Y or Z foils with which I might stab him! (Although I think that he needs to take up his complaint with Tolkien, not Jackson: clearly JRRT missed Goldberry’s potential.)

As for the alternative idea,

it strikes me as pretty implausible that Aegon is a Blackfyre. We’ve no indication that any of them are still around, much less that one of them had an infant at that time. And although the Targaryeans have a distinctive look to them, it seems like a real longshot that one would have been coincidentally born at that time who looked so much like Rhaegar that they would actually have to disguise him to not look like his (putative) father! It certainly is much simpler to assume that it is Aegean: the pieces are all in place, and any effort that Varys would have needed to execute this plan is a fraction of the effort that it would have taken to get a Blackfyre infant into the same place.

The other big problem is that if Aegon is not Dany’s nephew, then I’m not sure what real conflicts he will present for her. She clearly has greater rights to the throne than a Blackfyre does, even if Aegon could somehow prove that he was a Blackfyre and not a pretender to that name.

116. StandOzone,

A short time ago Eugene had short-cropped hair, not unlike that of the members of the sparrows that we’ve seen in spy photos. He posted a photo of his short hair to Twitter on October 25th, so he could not have grown his hair out that quickly. I’m thinking that’s a wig/weave, possibly of his own real hair. This leads me to believe he cut the hair short to play Lancel, and then obviously would need a wig/weave to finish his role in Eden.

The only other possible scenario I can imagine is the photo being taken prior to his hair being cut.

117. Wimsey,

Sure, House Blackfyre is supposedly semi-extinct, but that is not quite authoritative. Given 5 Blackfyre rebellions, one dragon dance, and the Golden Company still in operation, I wouldn’t say it is implausible. There are many ways that Varys, Illyrio and others (Doran) could be hiding a Targ or Blackfyre (and a few dragon eggs) in the world. 🙂 Plus, I wonder what BR could know….there are many theories….

I’ll keep my mind open for now regarding the next dance…I’m open to anything…except if YG is neither Targ or Blackfyre….that would be silly. JonCon is not protecting a mummery. He must be one or the other.

118. Of the Night:
Interesting that they use the three eyed raven theme to advertise a season that won’t make use of that storyline.

They are probably using the term the sight because while training at the house of white and black arya looses the ability to actually see and discovers her powers as a warg which wargs are associated with the children of the forest and green seers just a theory…

119. Not many know that by just taking care off your caffeine intake you
can reduce your cholesterol level to a greater extent.
The atomizer is basically a filiment which burns the liquid and changes
it to vapor. As studies show that not even half of the millions who try to quit each year
are able to overcome this unhealthy habit successfully.
