  2. Man, I love this show. I wanna marry it.

I watched Hardhome the other day. I was looking for a movie to watch, and stumbled upon the HBO marathon of GOT. Hardhome was just starting. “I was like this is better than any movie LOL”

I am currently doing a rewatch of all the seasons (on season 4 now), which is why I am not following HBO’s marathon.

Do we think GOT will win best TV series on Sunday at the Golden Globes?
    I would LOVE that!

  3. The premiere dates for Seasons 4 and 5 were both announced at the TCA press tour. The TCA starts tomorrow and HBO has their conference on Thursday, so hopefully something then!

Wow I didn’t know that, thank you for the bit of new information 🙂 I’m expecting some news now. I really hope they win best Drama.

    About the TCA

    1. What is the TCA?

The Television Critics Association represents more than 220 journalists writing about television for print and online outlets in the United States and Canada.

    2. Can I join the TCA?

Membership in the Television Critics Association is open to full-time TV writers at newspapers, magazines, trade publications, news wire services, news syndicates, and text-based Internet news organizations.

Applications are accepted twice a year. See Joining the Television Critics Association for more information.

    3. What is TCA press tour?

The Television Critics Association exists to serve its membership of full-time TV critics, most of whom do not live near the entertainment capitals of Los Angeles and New York. The twice-yearly TCA press tour, then, represents an unparalleled opportunity to gain access to the people who make television. The reporting our members do at press tour creates story material year-round as well as valuable face-to-face contacts with network executives, producers and actors.

As such, we limit membership in the TCA to those journalists who can be served by this primary mission.

  6. Deesensfan:
    mau,

well they won it in the emmys.. why not the GG???

Yeah and the Emmy’s are more prestigious. The Outstanding Drama award is the biggest in the industry.

  7. Jack Bauer 24,

Well I am not sure how it works with prestigious levels, since GG is more for movies, and Emmys is for TV (I think????) But Yeah, maybe more prestigious for TV, right?

So I mean, if they won the Emmy for it, why not the GG?

Edit: Not that I believe that GOT needs an award to show just how good it is. But I think they deserve it after all these years. Besides how good it is, its just huge in every way. When something happens with GOT (in the show or what not), its in the news headlines. You don’t see that with fictional stuff often LOL.

  8. Jack Bauer 24:
They use the TCA in January to promote their upcoming Spring and early Summer shows.

Thank you 🙂 you have gotten me excited, and I Thank you for making me happy about something 🙂

    Matthew The Dragon Knight,

They announced the release date during it last year. Hopefully we get one this week.

That’s good, a release date this week and we hold out for a Trailer whenever that happens. Who knows, it might be coming on earlier April then anyone expects. Could happen…..

  11. I really hope GoT wins GG this year and not some 1 year show like last year because i don’t think we still remember “affair” on any way. Even techinically Game of Thrones is level above the other shows. I know people will be grumble mmm “Season 5” “Stannis, Sansa and omg Dorne.” but even with all these GoT is above many of the other contestants…unless you believe the other shows had every single episode a great one. I want to see some more GoT actors there also…and they better give us some season 6 spoilers.
On the shows…. i really want the first trailer….but i also hope we will get character posters this season like we did in all the previous except of 5 one. This really make GoT seem more like a movie level than series. Come on HBO give us something!!

  12. More award noms are always welcome.

My 31st name day is this Sunday the 10th, so I’ll be wrapped up on my couch in my new GoT blanket I got for Christmas, hopefully watching my peeps take home some statues!

  13. Has anybody been keeping track on how many awards GoT has won overall by this point? There is a list on Wkipedia, but I’m sure it’s not complete.

  14. Deesensfan,

Television is stacked these days with amazing shows but I hold GoT high above all the others. I think it deserves to be at the top of recognition

  15. Lyanna_Targaryen,

Happy Nameday and lots of happiness! I wish your GOT blanket (Targaryen blanket?) is a good omen and you’ll see your (and my) favourites killing at the awards!

  16. Deesensfan:

    Shy Lady Dragon,

Happy Name day! Maybe youll get a trailer for a present

Thanks for the good thought, but it’s not my nameday (mine is in October), but Lyanna Targaryen‘s. But I hope she gets a trailer as a present 🙂

  17. Dragonslayer,

In that case Wikipedia has quite a lot more 159 wins, if the numbers they have are correct (I only count 85). That was the number I thought higher, but it was just a feeling. Appart from that Wikipedia counts a whooping number of 436 nominations (only 282 by my count).
I doubt that they’re so far off with their sum-up, so I guess I’m missing something and that the sum at the bottom of the chart and as we all know you should always support the bottom!

  18. Game of Those is up for some people’s choice awards
    Favorite TV Show:
    The Big Bang Theory
    Game of Thrones
    Grey’s Anatomy

The people’s choice awards come on tomorrow.

  19. Abyss,

I’d just go with “a whole shitload.”

Yep, as usual, I can be counted on for both specificity and profundity. 🙂

  20. Matthew The Dragon Knight: That’s good, a release date this week and we hold out for a Trailer whenever that happens. Who knows, it might be coming on earlier April then anyone expects. Could happen…..

GRRM stated mid-April in his infamous recent blog post (he talked about the extra two weeks not being enough to save him), so April 17 seems a fair bet?

April 24th i think is pretty much a lock.

You got a GoT blanket? Jealous. I want a blanket but i have no money. (puts GoT blanket on next year’s xmas list) ?

  23. “GAME OF THRONES premieres in April (mid April, we are now told, not early April, but those two weeks will not save me)”

    George knows the premiere date?

The 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th are the 4 Sundays in April. Two weeks from the 10th is the 24th, but that’s late April not mid. So yeah maybe the 17th? The Vinyl finale is the 17th though so that just doesn’t seem likely.

Is it really impossible to push the Vinyl finale to 10 instead of 9 ? I don’t think it’s impossible. Game of Thrones could premier on the 17th or 10th probably won’t happen and maybe push Vinyl back.

  25. Matthew The Dragon Knight: When did the old trailers release after the premier was announced again jack ?

Season 4 premiere date announced January 10th and the trailer was two days later on the 12th. Season 5 premiere date was announced January 8th and the trailer was on January 3th, so that was 22 days later.

So it’s pretty random I guess, well let’s hope for a early trailer.
Also if they announce the Imax event this Thursday, we can pretty much guess the trailer being shown.

True, but I just don’t see the first 9 episodes of Vinyl being at 9pm and then the finale at 10pm. Hopefully HBO sheds more light on this at TCA on Thursday. Another odd thing is they didn’t put the Girls premiere with Vinyl and it is a week later on February 21st, which means its finale is April 24th. They like to put GoT with Veep and Silicon Valley, but they can’t do those 3 premieres and the Girls finale all on the 24th.

so it seems the game of thrones Premier date isn’t so clean cut, guess we will find out what they will do on Thursday. if it’s the 24th ok, if its any earlier that will be great news.

Vinyl premieres on February 14 at 9 PM and has a ten-episode order. Ordinarily, that would place its season finale on April 17, which would mean that the earliest that Game of Thrones could premiere would be April 24. However, I recall that when HBO announced Vinyl’s premiere date, they noted that the show would have a special two-hour premiere on the 14th. http://deadline.com/2015/10/vinyl-girls-togetherness-february-premiere-dates-hbo-1201597306/

Now, Vinyl’s two-hour premiere could mean that it’s an extra-long, two-hour episode. However, I think it’s more likely that HBO means they’re running two standard, one-hour episodes back-to-back. If that’s true, then Vinyl’s ten-episode run would actually end on April 10. Under that scenario, Game of Thrones could theoretically premiere the next weekend, on April 17 at 9 PM.

  30. Jack Bauer 24: True, but I just don’t see the first 9 episodes of Vinyl being at 9pm and then the finale at 10pm.

As for Girls and Togetherness … Girls has a ten-episode order and Togetherness has an eight-episode order. They premiere on February 21, at 10:00 and 10:30, respectively. That places the finale for Togetherness on April 10, regardless of anything else that happens. Girls, having two more episodes, would theoretically end on April 24. However, with Togetherness being done on the 10th, there’s a good chance that HBO might choose to double up Girls’ final two episodes and air them together as a one-hour finale on April 17. They’ve done that in the past. That would leave April 24 totally free for Game of Thrones and its usual Sunday night partners, Silicon Valley and Veep.

So basically, I see three possibilities:

    1) Vinyl, having burned through two of its 10 episodes on February 14, airs its season finale on April 10. Togetherness also airs its finale on the 10th. Game of Thrones would premiere the next Sunday, April 17, at 9 PM, followed by two episodes of Girls back-to-back (serving as that show’s finale). Silicon Valley and Veep would premiere the following Sunday on April 24, and conclude the week after Game of Thrones ends. HBO has never de-synchronized those shows before, but, hey, this is a weird year.

    2) Vinyl airs its season finale on April 10. HBO sets a week-long break between the end of Vinyl and the premiere of Game of Thrones and runs something else at 9 PM on April 17 (maybe one of their original movies starting at 8). That leads into the one-hour season finale of Girls. Game of Thrones would premiere the following week on April 24 at 9 PM, followed by the premieres of Silicon Valley and Veep at 10:00 and 10:30, respectively.

    3) Vinyl’s two-hour premiere is actually just one long episode. In that case, it would air its season finale on April 17, followed by the one-hour finale of Girls (Togetherness having concluded the previous week). Game of Thrones would premiere on April 24 at 9 PM, followed by Silicon Valley and Veep.

But it’s all just guessing games for the moment. Hopefully HBO will just announce the real premiere date at the TCA press tour this week, as you suggested. 🙂

You make some good points. Thanks for the breakdown 🙂 As for Vinyl’s premiere, the wiki lists it as just one episode that’s 2 hours long. Not two separate episodes. Not sure how accurate that is though.

  32. People may throw things at me for saying this, but I just don’t get the “Girls” thing. I tried to watch it, but it was tough for me to make it through even one episode. Then again, I never got the “Sex and the City” thing, either.

I am definitely planning to check out Vinyl, though, and I really, really hope it’s good. It would, imo, be kind of tough for it to suck with Scorsese at the helm, though, so I’m quite hopeful. I can’t wait to see Birgitte Hjort Sorensen in what sounds like a fairly large and recurring role!

  33. Wow, Jack Bauer, kudos on that breakdown. As much as I would love for GoT to premiere earlier than April 24th, a part of me needs it to premiere the same day as Veep. Because after an intense hour of GoT I really appreciate being able to laugh at the absurdity of Veep. I would hate to have a week of GoT and no Veep.

  34. Nymeria Warrior Queen: People may throw things at me for saying this, but I just don’t get the “Girls” thing.

I don’t get it either. I saw the first season and it was alright, but if that show would not be on HBO I really think it wouldn’t have gotten as much attention when it aired.

To be honest, these days with services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video on the rise, pushing the “new” streaming market and offering content nearly globally to a much better price as HBO does they really have to step-up their game.
I love GoT and I’m sure HBO has other great shows and will have them in the future, but with a service like Netflix that plans to spend 5 Billion on content this year and has proven that their content is actually good, HBO better lands another mega hit like GoT right about now.

  35. Dragonslayer:
    Abyss,

imdb says 134 wins and 268 nominations.

Regardless of exact numbers- if imdb claims they win exactly 50% of their nominations, that is pretty fuckin cool. You gotta love those odds goin in.
I would like to see a breakdown of awards per nomination per season- I wonder if they are trending towards more wins per nomination as they continue to grow in popularity and production value/execution.

  36. Nymeria Warrior Queen:

OMG yes! I forced myself to watch the entire hyped first season of Girls in the fruitless hope there would be a point or that it would get better. That was the only time I have ever hate-watched anything. I never liked SatC either. Though, I don’t think Girls is quite the “darling” that SatC ever was.

  37. Matthew The Dragon Knight,

Is the IMAX thing for sure going to happen this year? I went last year and loved it. Still have my cool Death posters…

    Nymeria Warrior Queen,

Nope. I am right there with you, Nym! Don’t understand the Girls love and never understood the SitC thing. I’m not a Silicon Valley or Veep fan either (JLD grates on my nerves). But I am REALLY looking forward to Vinyl! It looks great.

Fingers crossed for at least some news Thursday at the TCA thing, and lots more award wins!

  38. H.Stark: Got is also nominated in the Producers Guild Award

“Game of Thrones (Season 5) (Producers: David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Bernadette Caulfield, Frank Doelger, Carolyn Strauss, Bryan Cogman, Lisa McAtackney, Chris Newman, Greg Spence)”

    No George?

  39. Matthew The Dragon Knight:
Game of Thrones is also nominated for the writers guiled awards.

Game of Thrones, Written by David Benioff, Bryan Cogman, Dave Hill, D.B. Weiss; HBO

It’s gotta hurt George to miss out on these nominations and awards for nothing.

Count me in that group as well! I have nothing against Lena Dunham but it left me cold. And I never understood Sex in the City. I just couldn’t related to the women at the time, so it passed me by. I don’t feel like I’ve missed out. I’ve had The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, and I can mainline Ash v the Evil Dead on demand. It’s a beautiful life.

  43. Ser Oromis Locke,

I liked the first season of The Knick very much. The second season didn’t seem as good as the previous to me, I don’t know why, it still had interesting plots. Maybe because I didn’t see Thack as the main character. What do you think?
And yes, I also like GOT more 🙂

I won’t throw anything at you, I’ll offer you a cup of coffee, Queen Nym. I tried to watch Girls because my boyfriend admired it as a parody to Sex and the City (which I liked and he didn’t), but I disliked Lena Denham even if I knew nothing about her, it was just instant rejection. Luckily, my boyfriend changed his opinion on Girls after a season or two so I stopped wondering what he could see in that show and I couldn’t.
I’m so glad about the information you provided about Vinyl – Scorsese and Birgitte! I had seen the promo on HBO and I had planned to watch.

  45. Shy Lady Dragon:

From what I’ve gathered when researching if there was going to be a 3rd season (which is not likely), they stated that they always saw it as a two season story arc. So they had the second season in mind since the start. I had the same reaction though. Halfway through the season I knew the big twist with the Robertsons was coming, but I didn’t feel much excited about it. I actually started to think that the castle would fizzle out at one point. The darkest surprise of the last episode was the one told in the church. The rest was expected..

  46. Deesensfan,

When I was watching SATC I was young(ish) and very interested in the whole talk about sex and relationships; also had female friends who were big fans. Now I don’t dislike the show when I think about it, but I’m not under its spell any longer.

  47. I like Girls because it’s basically the “actual” version of “SaTC” . The struggles of the girls on “Girls” are much more relatable to me than any of the SaTC issues, I can’t identify with wanting to buy a pair of $400 shoes, but I can identify with that scary place in between mom and dad paying for everything and your first real job. Maybe it’s because they’re much closer to my age than the other show was, or just the generation gap (the cell phones on SaTC make me laugh).

  48. Matthew The Dragon knight,

If I may ask, what exactly is the Imax event? I had heard they brought GOT to the movie screen for one of season 4’s episodes, I believe. But I thought that was for the finale of the season. Would they actually air the first episode on Imax? Or is this something different?

Last year the showed the last two episodes in Imax, and at the end I believe showed the first trailer for season 5. So of they announce showing the last two or three episodes in imax we know when the first trailer will hit.

  50. I’m sitting at the table of with everyone who isn’t a fan of SitC and Girls. WooHoo. I want to be supportive of shows about women, female friendships, etc, but just couldn’t manage to like those particular ones.

If they show Hardhomme on IMAX, I am going to find a way to go.

I’m thinking April 24 is the premiere date.

I’m actually looking forward to awards season because at least we will get some press and interviews. Natalie Dormer was on Kimmel last night and it was the same old line, but she thinks the Snow posters are giving away the game.

Golden Globes are this weekend and hopefully we see the cast dressed in some pretty clothes. SAGs are the end of the month.

Give me a press junket. SOMETHING.

  51. I’m nervous for tomorrow’s TCA conference. Really hope we get the premiere date. They have to talk about GoT at the conference, so there should be something. I remember last year I was at work during the conference and i checked Twitter and saw they had announced the Season 5 premiere date. I was so happy and telling all of my friends at work lol.

  53. I’m not really looking forward for the people’s choice awards, seeing as how the walking dead is probably going to win…..

Yeah the People’s Choice is the least prestigious of them all. Emmy’s and GG’s are the big ones.

  55. Deesensfan,

I also loved to see all those great clothes, but, even if one could give me such dresses and shoes as presents, I wouldn’t wear them because they aren’t my style at all. I favour casual clothes and wear dresses only at weddings. It was so much fun to see their love affairs, but they are so not my type. I’m a serious boring girl, who has always looked for commitment. But even the girls in SATC finally discovered they wanted the same!
I didn’t enjoy watching Girls at all.

  56. Deesensfan:
    Shy Lady Dragon,

    Ah so you know everything.

Its hard being in the dark, but I look forward to it!!!!!!!!

Well I wouldn’t say those who looked at the spoilers know everything, we know a fair bot, but there 8s still a lot we don’t know.

  57. Deesensfan,

The night is dark and full of undisclosed secrets! I wish I knew all. Hell, I wish I were Beniof’s wife so that I might be the first person to binge watch season 6 the moment it’s finished. (Not that I really think Amanda Peet has this privilege!)

  58. Jack Bauer 24,

lol… I didn’t mean “What do you think of her saying filming ended?”… listen to her answer to the Jon Snow question…. it’s telling if you ask me, just confirms what we already know to be true

  59. Sister Kisser,

Not exactly, there is still some stuff that we know from the books that will appear per filming news (even whole storylines). I think it will be important to even keep the destinction between bookreaders and Unsullied in season 7 onward where we will get almost surely no book storylines (if TWOW is still not released a year from now).

  60. Dragonslayer,

I agree with you- we’re not all completely in the dark. So perhaps the distinction should remain for now. But the scales have tipped- with most story lines. And in the cases where characters are pursuing (or going back to) their book story lines we can guess that much will be altered, if not changed dramatically.

  61. Wait, I just watched entire People’s Choice Awards and GoT wasn’t mentioned once. Dafuq.. o.0

Are we sure they were nominated?

for best sci fi/Fabtasy and Best Show, yea I don’t know. I Forced myself to watch this just for Thrones……

  63. the peoples choice awards was a waste of time, congrats to the winners and nominees though.

  64. Deesensfan,

So did the presenters mention all the nominees except for Got? That’s odd. But I can understand not winning anything right now what with the casuals being turned off by the character deaths last year. I mean, the folks at my work who were fellow watchers have lost interest and all I would hear about last year is Walking dead BS. I’m sorry, it must be very well made, because it so darn popular, I just can’t get into zombie stuff. Perhaps due to coercion into playing Call of duty zombies with my nephew so much, he was a little addict with it for awhile:)

  65. No offense to anyone who watches walking dead, but I quit watching that show ages ago, I lost interest. And the other shows in the people’s choice awards never interested me to begin with.

I still watch TWD, but it’s dipped in quality tremendously over the years. I haven’t been able to get into TBBT.

  67. Deesensfan,

For more Thrones scoop, pick up Entertainment Weekly’s First Look issue, on newsstands Tuesday, and check out more reveals this week on EW.com.

    ALL LIES.

  68. YgritTe: all I would hear about last year is Walking dead BS. I’m sorry, it must be very well made, because it so darn popular, I just can’t get into zombie stuff.

I said the same thing to somebody about zombies and the retort was “well what about the white walker thingies. Aren’t those zombies?” “Oh…” It took a minute, “You mean the wights. But they are much cooler than TWD.” Well, they are.

  69. Deesensfan,

There were a few guys in the office who avidly watched so we’d occasionally discuss it. Then they became all about TWD and didn’t have much to say anymore about GOT, some became casuals and one stopped watching cause “they’re all gonna die anyways.” After S5:10 that guy walked in, leaned over and yelled “Game of Thrones!” and I’m like…Jon Snow 🙁 and he smirked so I said don’t even talk to me right now lol.

  70. Furious 7 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) won for BEST MOVIE.
    I kid you not.
That alone is enough to discredit this entire awards show.
It only makes sense Game of Thrones would lose to crap like the walking shits.
