It’s been quite a year, both in and out of Westeros — but we finally have some more “official” news about the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, and The Night’s Cast, the official podcast of Watchers on the Wall, is here to break it down!
Join Sue, Samantha, Vanessa, Petra and Akash for a great break down of all the casting and production news we know so far.
The podcast is available on iTunes and SoundCloud, and you can follow us on Twitter as well. Happy listening!
Really enjoyable Night’s Cast episode!
By the way, the sound quality was excellent. (My hearing isn’t what it used to be. Nor is my dying cell phone. So I really appreciated the crystal clear audio.)
And I liked “Hot D” as your shorthand name for “House of the Dragon.”

Responsive comments (in no particular order, and with apologies in advance if I don’t or can’t identify whether it was Sue, Samantha, Vanessa, Petra or Akash who made a particular observation):
At 54:25 – 55:10 of the podcast, during the discussion of casting Olivia Cooke as Alicent, one of you mentioned you had seen her and liked her in the movie “Thoroughbreds” (or maybe that the character she portrayed in that movie has attributes of Alicent?)
I had never heard of Olivia Cooke before the recent HotD casting news. (Tron79 mentioned that she was really good in the 2015 movie “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” so I watched some trailers and clips from that film and others, e.g., “Ready Player One” and “Pixie”).
I also came across the trailer for “Thoroughbreds” (2018) and some clips from that movie. Apparently there are ten successive clips available on YouTube. I only watched the trailer (below). I have not watched any of the ten clips, but a link to clip 1/10 is also embedded below for anyone who’s interested.

As a non-books reader, I’ll have to leave it to the wisdom of the panel and the commenters at large whether Olivia Cooke flashes traits of Alicent in “Thoroughbreds.”
Ten Bears,
After watching the Queen’s Gambit, I would personally be all for Anya Taylor-Joy being cast in HotD. She’s fantastic.
Mr Derp,
I’ve still got “New Mutants” (Anya Taylor-Joy + Maisie Williams) on my To Watch List.
I guess I’ll add “Queen’s Gambit,” unless it’s on one of the many streaming services to which I’m not subscribed. 😡
Edit: Yup. “Queen’s Gambit” is on Netflix. Maybe I ought to cancel HBO and sign up for Netflix, since HotD won’t air until 2022… AND because HBO is now shunting many of its shows and movies to “HBO Max” so they’re not available to me even on HBO On Demand. 🤬
I’d second this over and over and over (and Queen’s Gambit is excellent!)
