Game of Thrones season premiere running time revealed, and the cast talks moving on without the books

Alfie Sophie

The HBO Schedule has been updated with the season premiere of Game of Thrones, providing a morsel of info. The episode title has not been revealed yet unfortunately, but it does display a running time of 53 minutes, which means that season five will tie season two for the shortest season opener.

The schedule entry includes standard warnings so in this episode we can expect Adult Content, Adult Language, Graphic Violence, and good old Nudity. Sounds like a typical episode of GoT, then.

Red carpet premieres have become the norm for Game of Thrones but the one for season 5 looks to be something special, as this morning Sky Atlantic announced that this year’s premiere will be held in London for the first time, at the Tower of London. isaac

The DVD launch parties have the cast out in force promoting Game of Thrones and so there are interviews galore these days. Here’s a roundup of the week’s highlights in Game of Thrones interviews:

Conleth Hill discusses Game of Thrones Season Five and more in a rare interview

Game-of-Thrones-Season-5-Varys-and-Tyrion

Vulture has managed to nab an interview with the elusive Conleth Hill, who is playing Varys, Master of Whisperers, on the show. Well, is that still his characters official position after the events of the past season? Time will tell, soon enough. Conleth himself remains, understandably, tight-lipped about the coming season, though the journalist does her best.

Watch out for mild spoilers, if you haven’t seen the Season Five trailer!

On his personal qualities that mesh well with his roles of various spy characters, he says:

Well, I’m pretty anonymous, and I think that would work in my favor. I don’t get recognized very much, which isn’t a complaint, you know? I would be a bit worried if I were recognized as Varys, because I don’t look like that normally. If I’m at a red-carpet event, they’ll recognize some of the other stars from Game of Thrones, but not me. I’m not recognized immediately. Normally, if I’m wearing a tuxedo, people think I’m a security person or a wine waiter, just because of the uniform, you know?

Remember the company that contributed ice sculptures for the set used in that episode 404 scene far beyond the Wall where Craster’s infant is taken to by a White Walker? They are called Glacial Art, and you may have read about their experience working on the show before (our Sue once wrote a post about that at our former address). Their relationship with Game of Thrones and HBO is still thriving!
