Michael McElhatton, Iwan Rheon and Alfie Allen debut new clip on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

3 guys

Michael McElhatton, Iwan Rheon and Alfie Allen appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to chat about season 6 and prove to Jimmy that they’re nothing like their characters in real life, and to unveil a new season 6 clip!

They discussed Theon’s infamous amputation, respectful encounters with fans and the unsettling contrast between Allen and Rheon’s on-screen and off-screen relationships. Allen then introduced a new clip in which Theon and Sansa wade into a freezing river, just after the scene we saw in the first Sansa and Theon clip released.

To counter the misery normally witnessed when McElhatton, Rheon and Allen are on screen together, the interview concluded with hugs.

  1. I’m not speculating what happens next. No need when it’s this FREAKING SUNDAY!!!

    Mihnea:
    Connor,

”Now, I am become hype, the destroyer of social life.”

VALAR HYPEGULIS, ALL MEN MUST HYPE!

  2. They need to find some shelter or help really fast after this or it is strange they did not die.

  3. Mihnea:
    Connor,

”Now, I am become hype, the destroyer of social life.”

OMG that describes the last week or so of my life! I keep hoping that once I’ve seen the first episode (twice) and maybe the new recap show and read a few reviews I can concentrate on my work and life again.

  4. I wonder if Brienne is less afraid of the hounds than Yara since she already took one out? ?

  5. OT: I just looked at the schedule for HBO on my TiVo and the second episode is titled “Homeward Bound” not “Home”, not that it makes a huge difference. There’s no summary yet.

  6. Wall Builder:

That’s weird. HBO’s site lists it as just “Home”.

  7. Darkstar,
Do you mean the kiss or the clip? LOL

For someone who hates that first step into the water even in summer time, watching this is unbearable. And Sansa with all her wollen gowns… They’ll be soaked forever! Brrrr!

Apart from that, I must say, having those three sitting on that sofa like hens on a rod is not very good for communication. Noone is comfortable, everyone is constantly trying out new positions, leaning forward and backward. The whole thing was kind of awkward. The best interview, we got, IMO was Maisie with Seth Meyers. Both were relaxed and fun.

  8. I can’t believe there’s 4 days left. What’s even better is that there has been no significant leaks about the premier. It’s going to be nice watching the premier completely unaware of any twists that will occur.

But I’m scared that there will be a leak this weekend or even early Sunday. Because I just KNOW I won’t be able to resist. Hopefully HBO can keep a tight lid until then.

  9. I’m conflicted. If Brienne takes out Ramsay’s hounds with ease it will make Yara look even weaker. But if she doesn’t, it will make Ramsay’s hounds look even more invincible.

  10. Chinoiserie,

No. You wouldn’t die in a jiffy, because you waded through an icy river for a vew seconds. You might catch a nasty cold or even get frost burn, but you wouldn’t just roll over and die because of it. – Of course if Sansa and Theon have to be in the cold for a longer time period the river crossing would certainly not help their survival.

  11. Yes you can applaud yourself Alfie

He has done a fantastic job as Theon/Reek. That is one of the most potent storylines of the book and he has done an excellent job of making his character arc a potent aspect of the show

Theon/Reek an important supporting element that weaves through so many different characters from Robb in S1, yo Bran and Rickon S2, to Ramsay and the Boltons in S3, to Ramsay and Ironborn S4 and Sansa in Winterfell S5 and I suspect Sansa but the Ironborn plot in S6

  12. Brace yourselves, hype is coming.
Cant believe that we are only 4 days away from S6 premiere.

  13. Would someone be so kind as to write down what Then and Sansa say in the clip?

Though I understand written English very well I have some difficulties in understandind the spoken one 🙁

  14. Abyss:

There is a risk of pneumonia I think over time if still in the clothes with a cold win around but if one gets to a fire and out of the freezing wet clothes quickly enough to re-heat the body the aftermath of frozen river crossing can be managed

  15. Kundry:
Would someone be so kind as to write down what Then and Sansa say in the clip?

Though I understand written English very well I have some difficulties in understandind the spoken one

    Sansa “I can’t”
Theon “I’ve seen what the Hounds do to people, this is better”

Then Hounds barking in the background

Obviously they have to cross the frozen river to get rid of their scent

Of course in the books, given Sansa is developing a close and possibly Warg connection to Hounds/Dogs ala Arya with Cats I suspect they might let her go if book Sansa is ever in that position, eg same reason the Wolves didn’t attack Arya in the RL

  16. Well, Reek doesn’t have his man parts to worry about shriveling up, so he and Sansa are really going through the same experience.

  17. Could those three be any more adorable with the hugging? 😀 Love that McElhatton gets in on it too.

    Mihnea,

Haha, one of the best opening comments ever!

  18. roxWolfox,

    dragonreborn:
omg that sudden change from game of thrones to teletubbies fried my brain

Your statement made my heart and soul all warm and fussie. Thank you for the temporary gift, as I have a feeling I’m going to be basking in the sheer memory of this moment 5 days from now. 🙂

  19. Ashley,

There was an interview shot with the women of GOT. do we know if it ever aired?

And re: the interview, Iwan Rheon said:

As for what’s in store for Rheon’s character, the sadistic Ramsay Bolton, the actor confirmed it was nothing good.

“Some more horrific behavior and real disgraceful stuff,” he said. “You know, yeah, you, you wouldn’t want to take me home to meet your mother.”

Ugh, sooo sick of Ramsay. LOL

  20. Back in the old days a bad cold could lead to death. That’s why the “God bless you” when sneezing. There were no antibiotics if it turned into pneumonia or bronchitis or strep, as they often do.

    Abyss,

  21. Deesensfan,

I’m not certain, but I think the ladies will be on a segment for the Today Show and possibly tomorrow. I can’t find anything to verify but I will let you know if I see the clip or hear anything more. I’m not thrilled about Ramsey either. Ready for him to G-O!

But the interview was adorable. These guy seems like genuine friends and its nice to see them more relaxed (although the interviewer was pretty terrible BUT I expect nothing less from GMA lol).

  22. Is it me or are the links to the interview with Iwan, Alfie, and Michael not here? Cute pics and I understand they kissed (Alfie and Iwan) which is sure to make a lot of fans either squee or squirm. 😀

  23. singedbylife,

Ugh. I hate when they restrict the videos by country. I’m not sure how to assist but I will ask my IT guy when he gets in. Or maybe someone else in the WotW community can help? Its a fun interview and I hope you get the chance to watch 🙂

  24. Ygritte,

True. It could lead to death, (as it can now under the wrong circumstances), but that doesn’t mean that you needed “to find some shelter or help really fast[…]or it is strange [you] did not die.” 😉

  25. Theon is the true hero!

Seriously, freezing to death would be better than being ripped apart by hounds. You could go into shock or just become numb…the pain you would actually feel would be inconsequential to flesh and limbs being torn off….although that would likely be faster.

  26. Ygritte, Colds are caused by viruses; anti biotics dont work for colds.

Wow, I hate getting into a cold pool, can’t imagine doing that…..

  27. Deesensfan: Ugh, sooo sick of Ramsay. LOL

P.S. Looks like we are not alone in our feelings towards Ramsay.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/24/arts/television/ramsay-boltonof-game-of-thrones-is-the-most-hated-man-on-tv.html?_r=0

Interesting where he draws inspiration for his character. Don’t really see Ramsay as having Liam Gallagher’s swaggers though 😉

Mr. Rheon conceived Ramsay as a mash-up of Heath Ledger’s unhinged Joker and Dennis the Menace, he said, and added a bit of the swagger of Liam Gallagher, the dyspeptic former Oasis singer. The resulting confection has landed on many “most-hated” lists online.

  28. Hi guys, just a thought. Aren’t the starks supposed to have high tolerance for cold conditions just like Targs have high tolerance for high temperatures?

  29. ash,

Yes they are, but colds can open people up to bacterial infections which require antibiotics. My niece, when she was younger, hardly ever had a cold that just cleared up without it first turning into strep, bronchitis, or pharyngitis. She finally had her tonsils taken out and it seems to have done the trick.

  30. Ben10,

They may have some tolerance against it, simply because they live in a cold climate, but it certainly isn’t in anyway magical. We only know of one Targaryen that has higher tolerance against high temperatures btw and that would be Dany, but even with her we don’t really know if that was a temporarily thing in season 1. IIRC Dany has never shown higher tolerance against heat after that.

  31. Ashley: P.S. Looks like we are not alone in our feelings towards Ramsay.

Haaaaaa oh, my GOD, Rheon being inspired by Liam Gallagher in his portrayal of Ramsay explains so, so much.

  32. Did anyone notice that their feet don’t touch the floor in that interview. That sofa must be high or both Iwan and Alfie must be short. I did notice that Michael’s feet touch but he is sitting sideways on it. Just a thought for why they seem so uncomfortable.

  33. Ben10:
Hi guys, just a thought. Aren’t the starks supposed to have high tolerance for cold conditions just like Targs have high tolerance for high temperatures?

I had a similar thought. Not so much that Starks have some overt magical cold resistance, but that Sansa getting in the cold water is a nice mirror to Dany’s bath way back in episode 1. At the very least a sort of baptism by their respective elements just as they escape their old lives and begin to seize power.

  34. Ashley,

These guys are great. OMG John(aka Sam) has lost a lot of weight. Ok Now, I have seen enough of all these clips already. They waited along time to give us the 1st official trailer, now they just won’t stop. I can’t take it anymore. Come Friday, I will be jumping out of my skin for this show, and at the same time my weekend will be over. DAMNIT. Bring on DEM THRONES. Love me some Davos & Tormund

    Abyss,

Just a random bit of info, or at least what I was taught: “God bless you” originated during the time of the Black Plague. Sneezing was one of the first signs someone had contracted the Plague, which was a death sentence for most, so when someone sneezed, people said, “God bless you,” because, far more likely than not, they would die very soon.

    Onto far more important things…

    4. Days. Left.

    tkk,

Thank you so much for the info and links! As a newbie to the WotW community, I must say that everyone here (so far) has been friendly and helpful 🙂

    M,

Haha! My friend just sent me this side by side comparison and I nearly spit up my coffee I was laughing so hard. Noel is totally Liam’s Reek 😉

    Roxie,

Couldn’t agree with you more 🙂 We were so deprived of new material from GoT the past 10 months and then suddenly BOOM we are inundated with trailers and interviews and good articles! Sunday can’t come soon enough!!! As you said, “Bring on DEM THRONES”

BUT first, one more article to appreciate Pod and his magic penis!

  38. Forcing myself not to watch this one–at this point I feel like I’ve already seen too many clips from the premiere!

I’m hyped to (generally) be unsullied this year. It’s a totally different experience from the years of smugly watching show-only friends freak out.

  39. Elizabeth:
Did anyone notice that their feet don’t touch the floor in that interview. That sofa must be high or both Iwan and Alfie must be short.I did notice that Michael’s feet touch but he is sitting sideways on it.Just a thought for why they seem so uncomfortable.

Yeah, it really distracted me! Like were they in some Alice in Wonderland scenario or something? lol.

The group hug in the end, aw… Well, actually I was actually laughing outloud. ?

  40. Elizabeth:
Did anyone notice that their feet don’t touch the floor in that interview. That sofa must be high or both Iwan and Alfie must be short.I did notice that Michael’s feet touch but he is sitting sideways on it.Just a thought for why they seem so uncomfortable.

Yep, I noticed it too and I think they are both shorter than average.

  41. Abyss,

Have you ever had hypothermia? I have, and it makes you really stupid and clumsy really fast. You lose control of rational thought, you lose control of your coordination, you don’t know what you’re doing. Wade chest-deep through a raging frigid river in sub-freezing temperatures and you could be in some serious trouble pretty quickly. I don’t think Sansa’s fear is unwarranted (although I agree that freezing to death is better than dogs).

For what it’s worth, I’ve done something pretty similar to this (minus the pursuit by psycho-with-dogs), crossing a river with rotting ice, barefoot, in a remote location, and it stands out as one of the scariest experiences I’ve ever had. I was only in it up to my knees, and fortunately someone took us in once we were across the river, and let us warm up by her stove, but I was shivering and sub-par for a good three hours. Just from getting my feet wet.

Hollywood usually doesn’t get this kind of thing right, though, so the cold will probably not be shown to affect them that much. But for all the readers of these fora who also aspire to have outdoor adventures: don’t go wading into a freezing river. Hypothermia can kill you fast.

  42. Elizabeth,

I hope that’s what it turns out to be. One, I like that better than just ‘Home’ and Two, Homeward Bound was one of my guesses in the WoTW episode name poll!

  43. Oh Gods, not the “Sansa’s wrong/not wrong for hesitating going into the river” arguments again. Ugh.

Anyway, I like how the adrenaline and fear is making the Theon of old come to the surface. Since chucking Myranda off of the balcony, he’s been in survival mode and thinking clearly. He even sounds a bit more sure of himself. I hope we see more of Theon Greyjoy this season and less of Reek.

  44. Bryan Cogman interview in EW: New episodes to include callbacks to show’s past
“Seasons 2–4 were about the expansion of this world; seasons 5 and 6 are about contracting. Characters who were rivals, and in some cases enemies, are being forced to work together, which makes for a lot of juicy dramatic tension. And then there’s the obvious answer in terms of the size of the show. We say this every year, but it’s true – this is the biggest season of Game of Thrones. It took me by surprise, just how big it is – and I helped write it! This is also the first season in awhile where we did read-throughs with the cast.”

And another funny interview with the Boltons, Michael McElhatton and Iwan Rheon :
IGN: Do you think they have any awareness of the threat north of the Wall?

McElhatton: They don’t seem to talk about it very much. [laughs]

Rheon: Yeah, they don’t seem that bothered.

IGN: [laughs] That’s why I’m curious. Do you think that they know, and they’re just like, “Eh, whatever”?

Rheon: Oh, without a doubt they know.

McElhatton: But it’s not the most immediate threat, is it?

Rheon: Yeah, they deal with things that are immediate. “I’ll deal with that later.” But last season was Stannis coming down.

IGN: So they aren’t really concerned with the White Walkers or anything?

    McElhatton: They must be.

Rheon: But I don’t think it’s their immediate threat. It seems further away, I guess, to them. Whereas there are other people who want to get rid of them. Practically everyone in Westeros wants to get rid of them. [laughs] So they’ve got a lot more battles to fight before the White Walkers come.

  45. Wall Builder:
OT: I just looked at the schedule for HBO on my TiVo and the second episode is titled “Homeward Bound” not “Home”, not that it makes a huge difference. There’s no summary yet.

Ooo! Yes, that does make a difference, especially if they were playing with that title and then opted for a simpler one. I think most of our theorizing was that “Home” meant heading home and not simply thinking of or otherwise relating to home, and this confirms it! Well, maybe.

  46. Ghosts Lunch: Of course in the books, given Sansa is developing a close and possibly Warg connection to Hounds/Dogs ala Arya with Cats I suspect they might let her go if book Sansa is ever in that position, eg same reason the Wolves didn’t attack Arya in the RL

That’s an interesting theory, but do we ever see evidence of Sansa developing an ability in the books? I must have missed it. Where? Plus, wasn’t Nymeria leading the pack that Arya happened across? Even if Nym wasn’t there with Arya, I would think the wolves might have sensed the Arya-Nym connection and that might have influenced them not to attack.

  47. It was years ago that Mythbusters busted the myth that crossing a river will throw off a well-trained dog. Reek needs to watch more quality television.

Either way, they’re both going to need shelter fast once they cross.

  48. Ashley:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/24/arts/television/ramsay-boltonof-game-of-thrones-is-the-most-hated-man-on-tv.html?_r=0

    Eek!

In the new season, the show’s sixth, Ramsay deepens further, Mr. Rheon suggested, even approaching something like human emotion in mourning a girlfriend killed in the Season 5 finale. “That surprised even me,” he said. Of course, it also finds him seething over last season’s escape of his captives Sansa and Theon (Alfie Allen) — the young nobleman he castrated, forced into servitude and renamed Reek — and sets up who may be his most appalling victim yet: an as-yet-unborn stepsibling who could be a competing heir.

It is impossible to tell if this emphasized words are loosely quoting Iwan or not since the first part of the sentence does seem to be paraphrasing him. If this is a paraphrase, wow! What an important kernel to give away.

  49. Gods I love those 3. 🙂

The argument about the outcome of the river crossing is moot, just as is the jump off the wall. Obviously neither of them suffer any lasting effects, you can put your reality away.

I’ve jumped off lower ledges into snow, and fallen through ice on a lake, and yeah it f*cks you up. It does not, however, fuck them up. Because television.

  50. rhia,
Just in case you didn’t know this, if you’re able to stay up late or record it, the first showing is simultaneous with the USA at 2am. The 9pm broadcast is the second one 🙂

  51. Ginevra,

I was thinking the same thing when I read that paragraph! As you said, it was obviously not a direct quote but has to be based on something. Could be the author’s own speculation given the use of the phrase, “who may be his most appalling victim yet…” But that is A LOT to give away!! There is really no doubt to whom the author is referring.

We will find out soon, I suppose (I doubt it would happen in Ep1). Until then, the hype train will continue to chug along! 🙂

  52. rhia:
can’t wait, but im in the UK so we have to wait till Monday 9pm!! arrgghhh!!

No you don’t. Set it for the 2am record. I have.

  53. Ginevra: Homeward Bound is a deliciously cheesy movie about pets coming home.I doubt GoT wants that association.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107131/

This could be another (intended?) association:

    It’s pretty good. Can corelate.

Oh, my sweet summer child, I was 6 years old when this came out and didn’t get to watch it until 2-3 years later on VHS… 🙂
Didn’t even know who Frank Frazetta or Ralph Bakshi were, back then.
A cult classic ever since, especially popular among the metalheads of the era, as you can probably imagine.
Still awaiting the Robert Rodriguez live-action remake.

    http://www.slashfilm.com/live-action-fire-and-ice-remake/

Apart from the title and a few other basic epic fantasy elements, I can’t really see much influence to GRRM’s mind-boggling saga…

  56. …and then Sansa turns back around, confronts the hounds staring at them and says:

    “You won’t hurt me”

    The Queen-in-the-North’s last words.
    Circular dialogue, right there
