  1. My Own goes to Victarion Greyjoy for acting as the Anvil to Lord Barristan’s Hammer.

  2. The problem with the Varys theory, as Eric brings up, is that Varys never wanted to leave the carriage. Even if he knew Tyrion would want to get out, there must be dozens of brothels in Volantis and it looked like Tyrion was leading the way. I think ‘the road to Meereen is through Volantis’ is just reference to needing to board a ship in Volantis to take them to Meereen. I think it’s much faster and safer that way than over land (which would be through the Dothraki Sea). Varys probably already had a ship set up or was going to find one when they got there. I also don’t think they are on the Rhoyne, which goes North of Volantis. I think they are in the Summer Sea to sail Southeast around Old Valyria and back Northeast into Slaver’s Bay. Which makes Jorah’s boat choice very unlikely to make it I would think.

  3. hexonx,

Well, book Varys is a master at reverse logic and suggestion, perhaps TV Varys is as well.

As for their location, I just think the TV map of Essos is significantly different from the book map–perhaps something along the lines of placing Volantis further up the Rhoyne instead of at the mouth of the river.

I made out they were going through the ruins of Old Valyria, where the stone men are in the show…

WHY did they kill the ship’s captain, by the way? Was there any reason besides confirming they’re ‘awesome’ psychopaths?

  5. I really wonder how everything had gone if Barristan had won that final tilt and Rhaegar couldn’t have crowned Lyanna.

  6. Omg, folks, can’t wait for Stannis to take the throne and fall off a cliff and then QUEEN SHIREEN OF HOUSE BARATHEON AND HAND OF THE QUEEN SER DAVOS SEAWORTH REIGN SUPREME! AND NO MORE TOURNEYS! WE’RE GONNA HAVE A SEVEN KINGDOM SPELLING BEE THank you and goodnight

I was thinking that too. Someone pointed out that they probably didn’t want the info about Jaime being in Dorne to get out. But it also could have been punishment for sneaking him into Dorne in the first place.
