We’ve been wondering when the Game of Thrones season 6 soundtrack would be dropping, and finally there’s news. According to iTunes, the soundtrack should be available for download on June 24th for $9.99, so we’ll have the album in just a few days! Some of the titles, we can guess which music it is (Hold the Door, excuse me while I weep), but some are vaguer and more alarming. Have we heard “Winter Has Come” or can we look forward to that in “The Winds of Winter”?

We don’t have a firm date for the CD release of the soundtrack; Amazon is listing two different dates in late July, however, so that is probably a good indicator. We’ll let you know if we get an officially confirmed release date.

Update: Pandora has previews of the tracks so visit there to listen! Note, Pandora has all the regular tracks but not the bonus tracks only found on the album.

  1. OMG
Winter has come anddddddd Winds of Winter…???
    HELP!

“Trust Each Other: 3:09” – Sansa and Jon.

  2. Hodor!?!

Also, hear me roar, winter has come, and winds of winter sound like exciting names that I believe are for the finale!

  3. Winter has come? I think we’ll see some WW action in the finale.
Also, a little too many “bonus tracks”. Are those coming in the CD release too? Or exclusive to the digital release?
Thanks for the news. Can’t get enough Ramin Djawadi’s music.

  4. The preview for “The Winds of Winter” shows a white raven flying to Winterfell so I’m guessing that’s “Winter Has Come.”

  5. I guess “Light of the seven” will play during the events of the trials next week and “Maester” during Samwell’s stay in Oldtown. I wonder if “Winter has come” will play during a scene with Kevan or rather in the North. “Hear me roar” is either going to be linked to Cersei or Jaime.

  6. Amazing soundtrack, as always.

Can not wait to see, or better said hear, what next episode has in store for us.

  7. YES! I’ve never been more excited for a GOT soundtrack. The music in the North has just been exquisite.

Bastard”–probably the haunting tune that played as Jon was fighting

“Winter Has Come”–theme as the Vale arrived?

  8. I can’t wait!! Ramin Djawadi’s work is just absolutely beautiful. I don’t know what the title would be, but I hope the bit where Sansa and Theon escape Winterfell is on here somewhere. I loved the intensity of the piece. The music during Hodor’s death and when Jon is facing the calvary alone in BoB is quite remarkable as well.

  9. What’s the bet June 24th is only for the US again? It’ll probably be mid July before the UK iTunes gets it.

  10. Jamie,

Yes, well, all the tracks will be on YouTube within an hour of its release so I wouldn’t sweat it too much.

  11. He has been brilliant like always ..

My favorites are blood of my blood and my watch has ended and when jon came back in episode 2 and him trying to get out of the pile of the bodies last episode

Wonder khaleesi means the end of book of stranger I loved that as well..

And iam guessing that I need you by my side is when dany saying that to jorah..

Looking forward to WInds of Winter

  12. dragonbringer,

Forget to mention hold the door and hear me roar .

And by the way I don’t see the dothraki getting their own track ..theirs was good as well nice call back to season 1

  13. Hmmm. I’m guessing “Coronation” could be the track playing over the S6 DVD main title sequence next year. That, or an edited “My Watch Has Ended” maybe.

I really hope Djawadi wins an Emmy for his work on this show before it ends.

  14. So I’m guessing there’s actually quite a few left for the last episode:

Light of the Seven: 9:49 (Trial @ Sept of Baelor)
    Maester: 2:52 (Sam @ Oldtown)
    A Painless Death: 3:22 (???)
Trust Each Other: 3:09 (Jon & Sansa)
    Winter Has Come: 3:14
    Hear Me Roar: 2:16
    The Winds of Winter: 3:29

  15. I think “A Painless Death” is the chase scene with Arya and the Waif, since the latter told the former that if she had done her job “Lady Crane’s death would’ve been painless”.

  16. Great news! Was waiting for some news. Listen to the soundtracks a lot.

Still amazed that Ramin Djawadi only had one Emmy nomination after all his work for the show.

  17. 1. Main Titles: 1:51
Useless trivia: the third year it’s been Main Titles instead of Main Title.

    2. Blood of My Blood: 3:35
Ep 6: Dany rides Drogon and rallies the Dothraki.

    3. Light of the Seven: 9:49
Ep 10? I believe this will be from trials / action in King’s Landing.

    4. Needle: 2:56
Ep 8: “A girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell. And I’m going home.”

    5. Coronation: 1:46
    Ep 5: Euron is crowned.

    6. Feed the Hounds: 3:08
Ep 9: Sansa feeds Ramsay to his dogs.

    7. My Watch Has Ended: 2:53
Ep 3: Jon hangs Thorne and co. and decides he’s done with the NW.

    8. The Red Woman: 3:17
Ep 1: Mel’s real age is revealed.

    9. Hold the Door: 7:21
Ep 5: He holds the door. We cry.

    10. Khaleesi: 3:05
Ep 4: Dany burns the khals and walks out of the flames.

    11. Maester: 2:52
Ep 10? Probably Sam in Old Town.

    12. A Painless Death: 3:22
Ep 8? The Waif chases Arya after stabbing her despite Jaqen telling her to make it quick and painless.

    13. Reign: 3:16
Ep 9: Dany’s reign is “just beginning” and she takes flight.

    14. Let’s Play a Game: 5:51
Ep 9: Rickon’s death. Battle begins.

    15. Bastard: 5:05
Ep 9: Battle of the Bastards

    16: Trust Each Other: 3:09
    Ep 10: Jon and Sansa.

    17. Winter Has Come: 3:14
Ep 10: Possibly accompanies the white ravens?

    18. Hear Me Roar: 2:16
Ep 10? Could also be from Jaime’s time in the Riverlands in ep 7/8.

    19. The Winds of Winter: 3:29
Ep 10: Possibly from the final scene.

    20. Lord of Light (Bonus Track): 4:16
The variations of the theme played throughout the season as a suite.

    21. Service of the Gods (Bonus Track): 2:48
Probably as above but with the Faith.

    22. I Need You by My Side (Bonus Track): 2:36
Ep 5: Dany sends Jorah away to find a cure for his greyscale.

    23. The Tower (Bonus Track): 2:33
Ep 3? Ep10? This is from the Tower of Joy but it could be from the first or second half of the vision. Maybe both halves.

24.Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken (Bonus Track) 1:44
Ep 1? Ep 10? Ellaria and the Sand Snakes take over or it could be from a scene there in the finale.

    25. I Choose Violence (Bonus Track): 1:48
Ep 8: Cersei refuses to go with the Faith Militant and chooses violence. The Mountain rips one their heads off for attacking him.

    26. Hodor (Bonus Track): 2:24
Ep 5? Could also be a suite not used in the episode but a tribute to our half-giant.

  18. Maester: 2:52

Something interesting is about to happen when Sam gets to Oldtown (apprentice loan maybe?). Either that or Pycelle beats the sh*t out of Qyburn and the Mountain next week.

  19. For those of us who want it in lossless we have to wait until late July for the CD :/ I wish iTunes would sell lossless quality. Homie doesn’t do lossy for audio. And yes there is an audible difference for string music.

  20. I think “winter has come” is the soundtrack playing when the Lords of the Vale arrive. I might be wrong. What about “the tower”?? Will it play during R+L=J or have we already heard it?

  21. Light of the Seven: 9:49 – Trial in the Sept
    Coronation: 1:46 – I have a hunch…but I can’t be sure yet
    Maester: 2:52 – Oldtown?
Trust Each Other: 3:09 – Jon and Sansa’s scene next episode
Winter Has Come: 3:14 – the white bird flying in the preview?
Hear Me Roar: 2:16 – Cersei’s gonna fuck everyone up
The Winds of Winter: 3:29 – umm….Bran, Wall…something something; end credits music?

  22. Coronation-

    King in the North

    A Painless Death:

    Arya kills Walder Frey ?

Trust Each Other: 3:09-The music under Jaime-Brienne scene?

  23. “Coronation”, huh? Jon? Sansa? Dany? Euron? Do tell…

Maybe I’m literally the only person in the world that finds this interesting, but I always like to guess which track they’ll end up using for the Blu-Ray menu montage. So far, I like the track that played over the credits of “Home” (the themes in “Book of the Stranger” and “Blood of My Blood” were too similar to other versions of the dragon theme from previous seasons), but I’d like to hear the rest of the soundtrack.

  24. Am I the only one who thought about tommen at the mention of coronation..

I believe thats when he became believer in seven and mixed seeven and the crown.

  25. Hmm, I thought for sure something would stand out as music for the Frey/Lannister party next week and give us a hint of what’s to come there. I don’t know WHO is turning on them, but someone is. Right?? (BWB?Manderlys? Jamie? Arya?)

  26. Well, I did not get a single episode title guess right, back when we did the reader predictions thing. I put “Winter Has Come” as my guess for Episode 10 title, though, and it turned out to be name of one of the tracks. I feel a little vindicated by this.

  27. Even if Jon will be proclaimed King in the North or Sansa Queen in the North. There is no coronation involved, they would simply hail King in the North or Queen and drew swords or do some shit. There is no crown. Coronation fits more Tommen or Euron. Trust each other is totally Jon and Sansa. Their whole relationship is about earning and finding trust. Jon was stabbed by his own men, Sansa with Joffrey and Ramsay experiences and LF. The Tower should be interesting as it means like not outside of it but tower itself.

  28. I really liked the music in preview when they showed the Twins castle. Anyone recognized the track from previous seasons?

  29. “Hear me Roar” is the most interesting to me…

Here come the lioness burning down the city !

  30. Coronation seems perfect for Eurons scene
I think the Tommen and Faith scene will be ‘In Service of the Gods’

  31. “Hold the Door, excuse me while I weep”

Oh man, so true lol Can’t wait for this! Sometimes I play the soundtracks when I’m painting or doing some epic cleaning. Great stuff. I was really digging the music for Dany & the dragons destruction of the masters!

  32. Hear me roar makes me very nervous and excited. There have been so many hints that she’s going to burn things with wildfire.

    I can’t wait for Sunday!

  33. I’m looking forward to listening the song that plays when Sansa and Theon are escaping the Bolton men, and the one that plays when Arya is running away from the Waif.

  34. YES! I think those are more tracks than we’ve ever had in any OST before! Can’t wait. Wish we had gotten a sample as usual though :/

  35. Hear me Roar ought to be great! Cersei burning down the High Sparrow! 😀

    Brad: 13. Reign: 3:16
Ep 9: Dany’s reign is “just beginning” and she takes flight.

Oh thanks for pointing that out. I loved the music as Daenerys on Drogon takes flight in BotB. Was wondering what track that was. It’s lovely!

  36. dragonmcmx,

Well, actually, Season 1’s OST had 29 tracks.

As I do each year, I’m really looking forward to listen to AAAALL the tracks of this season’s OST. I’m particularly fond of the new Jon theme since he was resurrected (And Now My Watch Is Ended). I have this track on my mind for WEEKS !

Don’t they usually release short samples of each track ?

  37. BRYAN,

It isn’t available in all countries (I’m in France and I can’t get access to the preview of the OST). I
Is there another way to listen to the samples of each track of Season 6’s OST ? 🙁

  38. aabe,

The vast majority of music played in the previews is from elsewhere and not composed by Ramin for the show, including that part. Someone somewhere will know where it’s from!

    Beronn Stark

I don’t have access to it from the UK either. Damn regional restrictions.

  39. Just listened to the Pandora preview!!

Of the ones we haven’t likely heard –

Trust Each Other: I expected this to be Jon/Sansa in the scene we see from the trailer, so perhaps a tiny bit more…mellow? But it sounds way way more intense and bigger than I expected. Very very curious.

Winter Has Come – the beginning is from the trailer, and there’s the riff on the opening theme running throughout. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. It’s the clue that this, the real war, has come.

  40. BRYAN:
I got it an email for it for my own site, so not sure if its available outside the US.

Sadly it’s not. 🙁 But thanks nonetheless!

Can’t wait to hear them all!

  41. Nadia:
    -snip

Yeah I just listened the soundtrack as well. Really love “Winter Has Come”, it reminds me of “Finale” and “Mother of Dragons” but the Stark version. It really ties the main theme into it very well.

Also don’t think we’ve heard “The Winds of Winter” yet. It surprisingly sounds like the Dany theme to me. I wonder if that’s the track we end the season on or maybe it’s “Winter Has Come”. Both are good options in my opinion.

  42. Wow, “Light of the Seven” is beautiful. And somehow intense, but maybe just because I image what could go down while it is playing. Also cool version of the main theme there.

  43. ok, someone rip the tracks and upload them somewhere for those poor folks who can’t get access to them

  44. The pandora playlist confirms that “Coronation” is

just the scene with Euron Greyjoy from “The Door”. And I was hoping for a King in the North.
  45. Nadia:

Trust Each Other: I expected this to be Jon/Sansa in the scene we see from the trailer, so perhaps a tiny bit more…mellow? But it sounds way way more intense and bigger than I expected. Very very curious.

I think the beginning of that is when the Vale charges, which is why it’s so intense. The last piece of it is the bit we haven’t heard, and it’s quiet/solemn as you originally expected. This is probably from the moment we see in the trailer with Jon and Sansa. I have other thoughts/theories about this, but I’m reserving them for now, as I think the Jon-Sansa issue has been discussed enough for now. All will become clear next week!

  46. Jumbo:
ok, someone rip the tracks and upload them somewhere for those poor folks who can’t get access to them

    I second that!

  47. iridium,

Oh I didn’t notice that was the Vale music! Well how interesting – puts some context into that scene too.

I could listen to this soundtrack all day and then go rewatch the individual scenes. Ramin is a genius.

  48. Brad:

    3. Light of the Seven: 9:49
Ep 10? I believe this will be from trials / action in King’s Landing.
It could also turn out to be light of wildfire

    4. Needle: 2:56
I think this is the part where she takes out Needle and hides (from Blood of my Blood). Or something from ep10

    11. Maester: 2:52
Ep 10? Probably Sam in Old Town.
Could also be Pycelle dying. But he is referred to as grandmaester, so maybe Sam.

    12. A Painless Death: 3:22
Ep 8? The Waif chases Arya after stabbing her despite Jaqen telling her to make it quick and painless.
I too think this is from No One

    17. Winter Has Come: 3:14
Ep 10: Possibly accompanies the white ravens?
Could also stand for a new King/Queen in the North.

    18. Hear Me Roar: 2:16
Ep 10? Could also be from Jaime’s time in the Riverlands in ep 7/8.
Rains of Castamere played out at various occasions are brought together.

    19. The Winds of Winter: 3:29
Ep 10: Possibly from the final scene.

We have ‘Winter has Come’ as well as ‘the Tower’ for Bran’s scenes in finale. So (unless the Wall falls), probably this is just the main theme, like ‘The Children’ at the end of S4 finale, which also had the same name as the track listing

  49. Light of the Seven is the best piece on the soundtrack. It was so beautiful. It reminded me of Zimmer’s Interstellar. This sequence is going to be amazing.

  50. Ginevra,

The start sounded like that – but does the 2nd half of the track where things get kicked up a notch come from that sequence?

  51. Light of the Seven is so flippin’ good!

  52. I just hope they didn’t have to cut up Light of the Seven for the final cut and have it either truncated or split across different scenes, because~seven hells!~ the build up in that song is insane!

  53. Feed the Hounds is for Sansa/Theons chase scene and subsequent rescue by Brienne apparently
Nice to have Brienne’s fighting theme

  54. TL:
“Hear me roar” is either going to be linked to Cersei or Jaime.

I am thinking Jaime at the Frey Party. He looks too hyped at that party to just hang around and drink some of that grape stuff. I’m guessing he’ll be in a fight, but with who?

  55. Oh man, the “Winter has Come” I just listened to kinda worries me for the upcoming episode. It’s a play on the infamous “Goodbye Brother” track. But at 1:15 into it, it turns into what sounds like is likely to be the end credits music.

  56. Will:
    Ginevra,

The start sounded like that – but does the 2nd half of the track where things get kicked up a notch come from that sequence?

Yes. The track may be quite appropriate in the finale, as well, so that might be the reason for the dual nature.

  57. “The Winds of Winter” is both the Greyjoy and Dany’s theme together, and clearly an episode ender….. Cannot wait!

  58. Ser Joshua,

Thank you SO MUCH ! I’ve been listening to it after HOURS :3

After a 1st full listening, I can surely claim that if with episode 10, season 6 doesn’t manage to be the best season yet, at least we can be sure that with season 6 we have easily the best soundtrack of GOT.
Ramin Djawadi is known to be a great composer and his soundtracks on the show have always been REALLY good (except for season 1, in spite of introducing great memorable character themes and setting the musical identity of the show, there are a lot of tracks in season 1’s OST that are solid but far from being compelling and memorable) but here, he delivers a little masterpiece. The show had never reached such a level of maestria in terms of soundtrack. Season 6’s OST is the kind of soundtrack you would expect to hear from composers like Hans Zimmer, Alexandre Desplat or James Horner in great epic motion pictures. With this soundtrack confirms that the show has the BEST soundtrack ever for television.

“Light of the Seven” is deeply haunting and yet has something tragically sacred to it. It sounds like nothing Ramin has ever composed before. It makes me apprehend A LOT what’s going to happen in King’s Landing in the season finale 😮
This track and “Maester” are both very beautiful and bring a more classic and gothic dimension to GOT’s soundtrack.
“Light of the Seven” is one of the tracks who show that with season 6, Ramin Djawadi managed to accomplish what he always failed to do since season 2. Djawadi always really well succeeded in composing great memorable character and house themes and in doing year after year new great versions of these themes but he never managed to actually bring something new to the soundtrack of the show (except through certain tracks in season 4 and 5) while still being faithful to the roots of the original soundtrack until season 6.

For me, Season 6’s soundtrack is the embodiement of (Jon’s) resurrection and the perfect example for that is the amazingly beautiful and immediately memorable “And Now His Watch Is Ended” by giving an entirely new theme for Jon that sounds like nothing we ever heard in the show before.

I still can’t determine if “Hear me Roar” is going to be for Jaime or for Cersei !!!!

“Winter has come” is a great and moving mix between the Stark theme and the main theme and I really hope it will be the end credits music of the season finale.

I was, to say the least, extraordinarily surprised when I listened to “The Winds of Winter”. I thought it was going to be the darkest and the most terrifying version yet of the white walker theme but it ended being a mix of Dany’s theme and the Greyjoy theme. Of course, the vocals remind me a lot of “Mhysa” and “The Children” (which are among the best tracks of the show) and obviously I love it :3

Raaaaaaaah, there are SO MUCH to be said on this soundtrack, I never expected it would be the BEST soundtrack of the show 😮
Ramin Djawadi REALLY surpassed himself !!!! I tip my hat to him and bow !

Now, I wish I could already listen to the bonus tracks :'(

  59. Light of the Seven marks the first use of piano and pipe organ. It’s beautifully ominous and unlike anything we’ve heard in the series before. It builds and builds towards the end. If this isn’t a soundtrack-only piece, it’s going to be one hell of a time in King’s Landing.

The Winds of Winter is an incredible mix of Dany’s theme with the Greyjoy’s. I think we have our final scene here.

  60. Brad,

Light of the Seven is the creepiest track I’ve heard on all of Thrones, apart from perhaps Ramsay’s theme (the one with the weird quiet metal-ish sounds).

If it actually features in the finale, there is only one scene it can possibly play in. Wildfire. Everything goes to shit in King’s Landing. Just imagine a montage of people running, screaming, the flames spreading, all with barely any sound and just that eerie song playing.
  61. I’m going to come out and say it, Ramin is bored with the show (dunno how) but his music is really a weak part of this season. His stuff has occasionally been great (his Rains of Castamere theme was superb, the last cue of Season 4 (The Children) was amazing, his main titles are great) but there’s been nothing this season to show he gives a crap. Count me utterly disappointed.

  62. “Light of the Seven” is an absolute masterpiece. It’s an unusual piece for a Game of Thrones score – slow, contemplative, ethereal, haunting, and quite long. But good God is it beautiful. It really feels like something it’s underscoring the end of something – a scene so elegiac and destructive that there was no choice but lean into the contrast and write music that deliberately underplays what we’re witnessing on screen. I’ve got an idea what it might accompany, but we’ll have to wait until Sunday to know for sure.

I’ve only listened to it once, but I’m going back to listen to it again the second I finish listening to the rest of the soundtrack. I was already in awe of Ramin Djawadi and his work, but he keeps finding new ways to top himself. “Light of the Seven” is one of my favorite pieces that he’s ever done for the show.

  63. Nathan,

Dafuq!? This is literally Ramin Djawadi at the top his game! It’s Top Ramin!!

  64. dragonbringer,

Actually, among the ones I find really memorable there are :

    – North of the Wall (because it’s scary and creepy as f*ck as you would expect it from a 1st white walker theme)

    – Goodbye Brother (probably one of the best themes Djawadi has ever created, it makes me teary-eyed and gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it)

    – The King’s arrival (the grand classic Baratheon theme)

    – Kill them all, Victory does make us conquerors and The King OF the North are all stunningly beautiful variations of the stark theme.

    – The Night’s Watch (a memorable piece of music from the last scene of the night’s watch of the season)

    – Fire and Blood and Finale : two powerful Targaryen-related tracks.

But the rest of it (the 19 other tracks) is just meh… and I get bored when I listen to it.
But fortunately Ramin Djawadi got better since season 2 and 3.

  65. I guess Dany will leave Essos at the end of the episode. The Winds of Winder is the last track of the album but also of the season.

  66. Actually, you know what? I listened to that one and, lo and behold, I *did* like it. I haven’t listened to the soundtrack much. I’ve been disappointed by the music in the show this season, but “Light of the Seven” was awesome. Maybe he was just saving all his best work for the last episode.

I’ve listened to the album now and, yeah, this is stronger stuff than has been in the episodes.
    Miguel,

  67. so the bonustracks are out there for those who know where to find them
‘Lord of the Light’ is Mels resurrection chant and the endcredits for episode 2
‘In Service of the Gods’ is the Tommen Faith scene from episode 6
‘I need you By My Side’ is obvious
Turns out ‘The Tower’ is for episode10’s flashback
‘Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken’ is for the death of Dorne and Trystane
‘I Choose Violence’ sounds like the episode8 Mountain scene, but its not the same, so It must be from somewhere else?
‘Hodor’ I cant quite place either

  68. Lord of Light is Jon’s resurrection and the end credits of ep 2.
Service of the Gods is Tommen uniting the Crown and the Faith in front of Jaime.
I Need You by My Side is the obvious scene.
The Tower made me emotional and we haven’t even seen the scene yet.
Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken is from Dorne in ep 1.
I Choose Violence is from the obvious scene. Nice to hear a clean version of this.
Hodor is a mournful version of Three Eyed Raven and won’t be used in the series.

  69. Brad,

What makes you so sure the “Hodor” bonus track won’t be used in the series? I mean it could be a concert version of the Raven’s theme…. but do we know for sure? Maybe Bran has a mournful vision of Raven and/or Hodor in the finale that sets him on his way to the Tower??? (Pure speculationO.

  70. I’ve been listening to this all day

This is good stuff, I can almost see the Greyjoy ships with Yara at the helm and Dany riding Drogon overhead as they head to Westeros during ‘Winds of Winter’.

    I’m not crying, you’re crying!

  71. I know its not important but the Main Titles finally is the version we all see every sunday. Just a few more minutes added to the strings

  72. What’s the name of the track played when Cersei gets coronated in episode 10?
It kinda sounds like “Hear me roar” but it’s a bit more slower.

no that was Hear me Roar
if you are going by the oldest youtube sample, you’re only hearing the distorted version

  74. Flora Linden,

Flora, you are a fortune teller – your guess was correct, it is in fact “Coronation” which is playing in the DVD/Blu-ray menu of season 6, just got my box today. So now we have most houses’ themes or other main themes in the DVD menus: S. 1: House Baratheon (“The King’s Arrival”), S. 2: House Targaryen (“Mother of Dragons”), S. 3: House Lannister (“A Lannister Always Pays His Debts”), S. 4: Arya (“The Children”), S. 5: the dragons (“Blood of the Dragon”), S. 6: House Greyjoy (“Coronation”), although it is not the more Greyjoy typical “What Is Dead May Never Die”. My guess for S. 6 was “The Red Woman”, since the “Lord of Light” theme is quite good and often used in the show, but well, maybe they use it for the next season’s menu – and for sure, finally and hopefully, the Stark’s theme for season 8.
