  1. Not meaning to spread sour grapes, but here’s hoping that at least one of the winners is a regular contributor to WotW, and not just someone who shows up to post only when there’s a contest.

I’ll be watching for my next 20% off member discount coupon from Barnes & Noble to grab my own copy! Meanwhile, it would be great to hear from folks who read the book what they think of it.

  2. Now that it is over I want to let those who didn’t win, who know a lot about the time period and are able to connect the history with the show might be disappointed in the book. There were very few parts that I found interesting or new to me. But thats justs me. Just sayin.

And yeah I didn’t recognize any WotW folk there, but I suppose there are a lot of lurkers

  3. Firannion,

I actually feel the same way. I enjoy the taste of sour grapes in this instance. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy anytime someone wins these prizes, but it does kinda feel like the winners tend to be people who comment for the first time by parroting an overused phrase like “Valar Morghulis” to technically qualify for a prize then never come back afterwards.

Eh, whatever, cheers to the winners 🙂

  4. ash,

Most of the people who come to this website don’t post every day in comments, only reading or posting once in a while. So I would prefer if people here did not complain about not recognizing names. It reeks of exclusionary behavior. No one is entitled to win.

  5. Congrats to all the winners. and remember: anyone named Desmond Crakehall must be a pervert.

  6. Sue the Fury,

I did not make the original comment, I replied. And I did say Im sure there are a lot of lurkers. But yeah, I didn’t need to post that sorry you are right

oh and congrats to the winners!

  7. I still want to know what “Game of Thrones versus Human Sexuality” is written in… 😛

My thoughts exactly Sue the Fury, so thx for that motivating comment 🙂 ..personally i’m enjoying WotW sooo much and checking in several times a day. And since I’m located in NCW’s home country, checking WotW is one of the first things I do in the morning, due to the time difference… However I’m rarely posting (but a huge GoT-fan nevertheless), so I seriously got a lump in my throat, when I read that earlier comment – making me feel much less welcome on this site :'( …it’s highly unlikely, that I’m the only one with that reaction. So thanks again 🙂 BIG congratz to the winners… Cheers!

  9. I hope the winners enjoy their prizes – and I hope no “lurkers” have been frightened off! MOST of us don’t bite (the internet being what it is there will be the occasional troll-de-rolls but (usually) this site is less toxic than some I could mention (but won’t)).

  10. To clarify: I have nothing against lurkers and have no wish to make them feel unwelcome. It’s not pleasant to be painted as a baddie when in fact I’m a pretty consistent voice in favor of WotW being an inclusive place for discussion, even of unpopular opinions. I did specify that my objection was only to people who ONLY come here for contests, didn’t I?

Sheesh. Anyone I offended, consider yourself apologized to.

  11. Hello guys! Got really lucky on this one 🙂
I am actually one of those lurkers that Sue talked about. I keep coming here for about two years and I read about 80% of the posts. I also enjoy reading the discussion but rarely have the time to write anything on my own. Winning the book has made me really happy, as I have just finally completed my university degree with the vision of reading all the books as one of my rewards. So I am glad that I will get a little extra bonus 🙂
Thanks to all the regulars for your posts and disscussions here, they are highly appreciated!

  12. GeekFurious: Apologize for ending a sentence with a preposition!

A sure sign that I was feeling grumpy. On a normal workday I have to fix other people’s dangling prepositions.

Nice to have you aboard, HiyashiM! Enjoy the book, and if you find some time, let us know what you thought of it.

  14. HayashiM,

Welcome Hayashi! I too am interested hearing about that book. Come on back and tell us, and certainly feel free to jump in to the conversations!
