See Game of Thrones in IMAX with Watchers on the Wall!

WatchersontheWall

Gotten your tickets to Game of Thrones in IMAX? Mods from WotW will be in attendance but we would also like to hear from you! We will be accepting submissions from readers meeting up to watch GoT at theaters across the country.

Brienne-and-the-HoundWe realize that the amount of theaters, limited showings and anonymity of the internet make attending in groups difficult, so if you have tickets or are still able to get your hands on some we welcome you to coordinate in the comments by cities/region/times, whatever you feel like sharing. You never know if a wotw reader (or mod) can make the same showing you can.

So please send us pictures, impressions or related content! We will compile submissions after the end of the IMAX run for a special feature. WatchersontheWall values community. Let’s hope this IMAX run is successful enough for an expanded audience and future opportunities to watch Game of Thrones on the silver screen.

  1. I’m going to a showing in Largo, MD this Friday evening (theater is on the Metro line).

If anyone just wants to go with other fans in general, I know people are organizing groups on Meetup.

  2. I’d almost forgotten that in a couple days we’d have a trailer; either officially online, or from someone recording it in the theatre. Anyway, even if none of those things happen, at least we’ll have many descriptions of the trailer, until it’s officially released.

That is, for those of us who cannot attend the IMAX event.

  3. Most excited for to experience in Imax 3d:
    8)Alliser v Tormund
    7)Jon v Styr
    6)Ygrittes scene
    5)365Β° view
    4)Grenns last stand
    3)Hobb the cooks cleaver moment
    2)Jon and Mance
    1)Stanniss arrival (ya!)
    And the rest.
    And the season 5 trailer.

  4. Cherry Hill, NJ on Sunday afternoon! I’m the pregnant chick with the pink streaks in my hair so say hi

  5. I’m planning on attending a Columbus, OH showing. Here’s hoping the snow stays away next Saturday, because it’s a 2 hr drive and bad weather could make it an impossible drive. The forecast for Saturday is good so far though!

  6. Ashburn, VA, Brambleton IMAX, 10pm Thursday

I’ll be the one with the “Where the Fuck is Coldhands?” sign. Also, I’m expecting some Whites and some Walkers, so please bring obsidian.

  7. I’ve promised myself I won’t watch any recorded version of the trailer or read descriptions of the trailer, I just need to make it all the way to Tuesday when episode 2 of Telltale’s GoT gets released, that should give me enough GoT goodness untill Thursday when the IMAX screenings are over and an official trailer gets released on Youtube. (hopefully)

But the internet is dark and full of spoilers…

I hope all of you (mods and community members) will have fun watching these IMAX screenings, I know I would, imagine how the whole theater will freak out when the trailer hits the silver screen, I would pay only to see their reaction πŸ˜€

  8. Turncloak,

OMG! Same theatre, same time! I will be with my sister-in-law (Sullied fan) and my husband (Unsullied casual viewer), seats E12-13-14! I’m the one with the GoT Martell phone case! Give us a wave!!

  9. Balerion The Cat,

I’m in England, but I don’t think I will be able to restrain myself. I will stay away from descriptions, but I will probably try to find a version online of the trailer (and hope that the first one I see is decent quality).

Very jealous of all the people who get to see both the episodes and the trailer in IMAX.

  10. Whoo Hoo it IS available in Kingston as of… I dunno the last couple of days! Maybe my annoying clicking has paid off. Now I must round up all the people I regularly annoy with my obsession….

  11. Got my tickets for one of the Baltimore theaters. I’m probably in the minority when I say this but I’m stoked as hell because I actually really liked what they did with S4E9-10. Should be pretty kick ass seeing ‘the biggest fire the North has ever seen’ in IMAX πŸ˜€

  12. Thursday at 10PM, AMC Arapahoe. Aurora, CO.
I’m going to be dead for work Friday morning, but, meh, It’s just a Friday…

Any Watchers meeting up for drinks ahead of time?
Any idea how early to get in line for the artwork? Any idea if my theatre is participating in the artwork giveaway to the first 300?

  13. ProfessorArtNerd,

Hey, I will also be going to Cherry Hill, NJ. I won’t get the chance to say “hi” in person as I will be there on Saturday but it’s nice to know there’s at least one other WotW reader in the area.

  14. They just said simply in the press releases that theaters, on opening night, would have the posters for the first 300. So I would contact your specific local theater and ask them about the poster giveaway to be sure.

A cool update on the demand for the IMAX screenings (spoiler alert: it’s off the charts).

I’m not entirely sure why there’s much surprise in this. Yeah, it’s previous episodes of the show but it’s a really cool idea and it’s Game of Thrones which has always broken records in terms of popularity (online pirating, HBO viewership, trailer views etc). It was going to be a massive deal.

  16. I’m going Fri evening to the AMC in Downtown Disney, Anaheim CA!!! Can’t wait!!! (I’m more of a lurker than commenter on here but it’d be cool if there are other WOTW people there!)

  17. I’ll be going to the 10:00 showing on Thursday in Plainville, CT, assuming that the roads have been sufficiently cleared by then. Which they should be – easily. I can’t speak to how badly the winter storm affected others who live in the Northeast (and if the storm has hit you hard, then my condolences – I hope that you’re safe and warm). But here, at least, the 8-12 inches of snow that we did get could be categorized as underwhelming, at least relative to the massive media frenzy that preceded it. No one I know has lost power, and there was nary a White Walker to be seen.

  18. Greg,

I’m pretty sure we all saw it already. I’m not going because the Northern hemisphere seems to get all the fun.

  19. Rygar,

OMG, has our very own Rygar been cast (or is it casted) as another Sand Snake? Which one are you? Sarella? Elia? Obella?
Dorea? Loreza? It’s Loreza isn’t it?

  20. Rygar,

I’m guessing you’re pretty pale then. More info for the almost certainly inaccurate image I have of you in my head. I have decided that you are a 37 year old redhead with blue eyes and are hot. This is based on well, nothing much.

  21. Arkash,

There are no girls on the internet you fool πŸ˜‰

But yeah, even with her penis obsession, I always forget she’s a girl too (I blame the name, sounds male(ish) to me).

  22. The husband and I are going to the Friday 7ish showing in Largo, MD (on the Blue Line metro East out of DC). If anyone’s interested in meeting up, reply and we’ll try to coordinate!

  23. A couple friends and I will be at Universal CityWalk Friday night 10:40 PM! Maybe drinks first at Hard Rock?

  24. Colty,

I assume you’re going to 10:40 as well as I think there’s only one IMAX theater there πŸ™‚ Either way, I’m thinking of going around 9 or so for some dinner and drinks. I’d share contact info, but don’t think there’s any private way to do so?

  25. Fat ‘n’ Balda:
Lonely in Upstate NY.IMAX theatres everywhere, but no GoT.:’-(

Same here, I almost considered going to Toronto, but it’s almost 3 hours away in good weather, and I don’t want to be caught north of the Wall if a blizzard comes.

  26. Elizabeth, NJ
I haven’t picket a time to go yet but if someone else is going id meet up and grab a drink and nerd out beforehand.

  27. Not sure where you NY yanks are, but I’m an hour from the border, 2 from Syracuse… welcome to join us!?

  28. I wasn’t planning on going to one of the showing but I just checked back and they add the theater in my town so I might try to make it to an early Friday showing!

  29. Laura: Hi Sue!

I’m also going to Columbus for the 2:10 showing on Saturday afternoon. Driving from Cleveland. Where are you coming from?

Near Akron. I’m going to the 2:10 showing too!

  30. AMC Universal CityWalk Saturday 1:10PM. Going to see the huge Samurai armor exhibit at LA County Museum of Art before the IMAX event.

  31. I’m increasingly jealous, and as time goes on it’s less because of the trailer (which everyone will eventually get to watch anyway) and more because of the unique IMAX experience… Fuck, I cannot believe I’ll miss the Battle of Castle Black on the big screen. The fire, the mammoths, the army coming out of the woods, the scythe… You guys are lucky πŸ™‚

  32. To all the lucky people going to the IMAX screenings, have fun! And be safe, of course. Looking forward to reading the reactions and comments.

  33. PrinceTheon,

Awesome! Me too… I’ll prob get there around 8:30… I’ll be with my wife, my sister, and my brother-in-law. Feel free to come say hey!

Edit: If I remember to, I will post on here when we get in line so we actually know where each other are haha

  34. Anyone going to the San Francisco Metreon showing tonight at 10PM? I’ll be wearing my Greyjoy T-Shirt.
