Upcoming Game of Thrones browser game announced at Gamescon 2018

The game is afoot … or it will be, next spring.

At this year’s Gamescon (Europe’s biggest game conference), the games developer and publisher Yoozoo Games announced that they have joined forces with HBO, Warner Brothers and Interactive Entertainment to develop an officially licensed Game of Thrones browser game.

According to BusinessWire.com, the game will take place in Westeros and begin shortly after the death of Eddard Stark. Players will “take on the role of an ambitious Westeros[i] lord” determined to bring peace to the continent … albeit most likely through battle. Players will get to create their own House, manage their territory, design their own castle, train an army, travel through Westeros history, team up with friends or else engage in player vs. player battles and (perhaps most wish-fulfillingly of all) interact with Game of Thrones characters and try to recruit them to their cause.

“Game of Thrones Winter is Coming is the embodiment of our globalization strategy: we pursue the world’s top resources and partners and keep high-quality standards for the development and publishing of games,” said Liu Wangqin, the Vice President of Yoozoo and head of GTarcade. “Yoozoo values the culture and reputation of Game of Thrones. Through in-depth research and industry-leading technology we aim to bring fans of the series a game that will live up to their expectations.”

A worldwide pre-registration event is currently open for Game of Thrones Winter is Coming where players can gain access to rewards upon the game’s release in the spring of 2019.

Are you excited for Game of Thrones Winter is Coming? And if you were to create your own House for your character, what would your House Words and sigil be? Tell us below.

  1. Hodor!

No idea what my House or sigil would be. House Derp just doesn’t have that special something. However, my go-to deity would be the God of Tits and Wine, hands down.

  2. House Gilliam. Sigil: Black Pitbull with eagle wings. Words: NOW IT ENDS!!!! My Castle (Castle Mozes) is undergoing an ambitious overhaul from a small walled village with a modest castle, barracks, and Sept in the middle, to an expanded Keep. With space for traveling merchants, and their families. Also with fairgrounds for a local tourney. If their is enough coin left, and if the wars ever end. Update: We have to send some more men to Robb Stark. The newly made KOTN. I guess my plans are on hold until we bugger the Lannisters. SMH

  3. House Dulgeō of Goldcrest Castle
words: “Probably practicing profligacy pretty proficiently, preferably.”
sigil: two hands flipping the bird on either side of a pile of gold coins on a black field with gold crest (top border)

    😛

  4. I have to laugh. I viewed S3 ep4 today with Lady Olenna Tyrell complaining about her house words “growing strong” and her Rose sigil. I don’t recall the exact line, but she was hoping for something that would put fear in the minds of men like “We do not sow” or “Winter is Coming”. My words will definitely will not be “growing strong” (in the new game). I’ll have to think of something…. Stay tuned…

  5. Would be great if an actual RPG or zombie survival game was announced…tired of this low budget junk they keep giving us.

  6. Port,

Agreed. I thought this was like an Xbox game when I saw the title and got excited. Then realized it’s like all these phone games. These even already a game of thrones game like this lol

  7. How about a real RPG? Or at least a second season of that Telltale game. It’s been four years…

  8. Ooh, this sounds fun…I hope it’s great. I used to play a GoT game called Ascent that was pretty cool, but I’d been hoping for a lot more interaction with actual show characters rather than just made-up game ones. Although I do remember loving one of those. Still. :3 *fingers crossed*

  9. “…Players will “take on the role of an ambitious Westeros[i] lord” determined to bring peace to the continent … albeit most likely through battle.”

Arya: “Can I be an ambitious lord determined to bring peace to the continent, most likely through battle?

Ned: “You will marry a high lord and rule his castle, and your sons shall be knights and princes and lords. Hmm?

    Arya: “No. That’s not me.”

Ned: “What would you want to do?

Arya: “I’d manage my territory, design my own castle, train my army, travel through Westeros, team up with friends, engage in battles, and recruit allies to my cause.”

Ned: “Little ladies shouldn’t be playing interactive browser games.”

Arya: “I’m not going to ‘play.’ I’m going to win. And I don’t want to be a lady.”

Ned: “You want to be Arya Super Ninja Assassin Warrior Princess?”

    Arya: “That’s right.”

    FYI….
Maisie Williams was asked these questions in an interview about four years ago.* She had clever replies. Her answers were:

    Sigil: Tortoise
Words: “Go hard or go home.”

    * At 1:13 – 1:33 of the video linked below

  11. Having played Conquest since October, seeing Warner Brothers involved makes one a bit worrying, considering they do nothing about the use of bots for cheating in Conquest while basically overcharging everyone. We even have a group of players who put together a big doc with the bot evidence, and nada happens.

  12. Didn’t they already do this? I tried the mobile game for a few weeks but you had to spend way to much money to actually accomplish anything. Wasnt worth it.

  13. Ten Bears,

(Trying to re-post 12:07 pm comment with video link)

  14. That’s another thing…I didn’t spend a cent with Ascent. ;p I’ll try this if it’s truly free or costs a small one-time amount, AND nobody else can cheat at it.

I think John Bradley said his house words would be “Oh, for f**k’s sake,” which resonated with me. The exasperated, “you’re all idiots” house. I love it.

  15. Ten Bears,

For some reason the YouTube link (to the video with Maisie W answering question about house sigil and house words) isnt showing up when I post the comment. Sorry.

Although it’s not representative of the entire contents of the interview, if you plug in the following title of the video you can probably retrieve it:

Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams “Ships” Arya and Gendry!

  16. So are you going to do a follow up about how godawful this game is, and how the aggressive advertising campaign (which includes the use of fake YouTube accounts to post positive comments) vastly outspent development?
