Stoned Tweeters

StonedTwitterBirdI’m always up for a good stoning.

Twitter time!

This one’s a long one. Because… I dunno why. Because it was a long episode? (More like because my editing skills are shit.) (And I still probably forgot to add like 20 people I know.)

You know the drill. @Axechucker, #GameOfThrones, #HighSparrow. And yes, we’re still doing the Storify thing. Let us know if this is problematic. The last time we fixed the minor bugs, and it seemed to flow smoothly for 99.9% of y’all.

I actually highly recommend going “Slideshow” mode. (It shows peoples’ Twitter page background art and stuff. Nifty!)

So uh… go!

P.S. Here’s the DIRECT LINK to the Storify post, in case the embed is being cheeky.

  1. Axey you should do a video acting out the tweets. ‘Cause that would be hilarity ensuing.

  2. I think I’m the only one having problems with Storify? I get to read a few pages and then the “read next page” button dissapears, I’ll try the direct link.

It doesn’t work for me either.

  4. Yichhh, we are having some issues with Storify. Sorry, peoples! Growing pains.

Might be a traffic issue, might not.

(Might be a “Too Many Damned Tweets” issue.)

  5. The slideshow version is currently working for me.

Also try clicking on the Storify link I provided back near the top.

    We’re still tinkering~!

  6. Brienne to Sansa: “A boy like that, he killed your brother, forget that boy and find another. One of your own kind, stick to your own kind”

Great tweets again this week. I did have problems on WotW, but after I went to Storify directly, it worked fine.

  7. Lady Shelly killed it this week, holy shit. I was laughing so hard at work reading these.

  8. All in all, I prefer the storified version… except when, as of now, I got a more than shitty connexion and the simple “next page” button doesnt respond… ^^

  9. *Yawn* Why waste time posting that annoying AngryGOTFan twitter post.
Probably this is the only thread he/she checks to feel important.

  10. Someone with musical talent needs to do a Bolton cover of Taylor Swifts “Shake it off”

“Flayers gonna flay flay flay flay flay”

“you just gotta, flay it off, flay it off”

  11. Call me oldschool but I’m just not a fan of Storify. I can’t easily save the whole page for later offline reading, I have to manually enable god knows what sites just in order to get to ‘next page’.

    Oh well…

  12. Okay so maybe (and probably) it’s me getting a glitch but there are no episode related tweets after the encounter with the Red Priestess.

It goes from a tweet pointing out she’s an actress from Arrow to “after episodes” tweets…

  13. This is supposed to be an ‘appy occasion! Let’s no’ bicker and argue about ‘oo killed ‘oo…

Wow… very good accent there! 🙂 The original Red Wedding… between original Lancel and Fat Walda now that I think about it…

Amina Murdock for the win though with that picture… Ramsansa people should fail at life. I’ll help.

Jury will indeed see with Sansa storyline. My unsullied brother’s biggest problem with it was the ONE scene where Sansa came to terms with the idea… Hell, if she’d just had a quick ride off in the woods to think even… ah well. Must be the horse allergies again…

  14. Never mind my previous post (about not having any tweets post Red Priestess), I read them now !

  15. Fairly certain that the girl who plays Dany’s stand-in on the show is not the lookalike prostitute. When you get a look at her, it’s pretty clear it’s not Rosie Mac. She is apparently getting some kind of minor role on the show but the article where that was stated seemed to imply it was for S6, not this one.

  16. My criticisms of Storify aside, that was one great twitter recap, Axey. (Might go hand in hand with High Sparrow being a great episode. Best so far in S5.)
Also appreciated your comments, Axey. Seemed like there were fewer in the two previous installments. But this was better.

  17. This is not the first Dany free episode. The two single-location battle episodes (Blackwater, Watchers on the Wall) took place in Westeros.

  18. “AND THEN STANNIS SHOT HIM WITH AN ARROW” – Cracked up for a solid minute at this one!

  19. Thank you for yet another awesome twitter recap! I look forward to your recap every week.

And Coral! Coral! Love it when my two favorite shows collide.

  20. I love these posts so much. They make my Tuesdays full of yay. And Axey seemed particularly on fire this week. Excellent work!

Ugh all the non-readers bitching about Jon executing Janos.

Seriously? Was this a thing? There were really people upset over this? Where was that happening? Aside from purist complaints about the exact line of dialogue being changed, I haven’t seen anything but glee over this scene.

Well…except from Kit Harington himself, I suppose. But whatever, he doesn’t count. 🙂

Olyvar in a fake beard made me LOL.

He looked like he was all set up and ready to stone someone for saying ‘Jehovah.’

Olyver’s put-out little grumble of “always the Maiden” was one of my favorite moments in this entire damned show. For just a moment there, he was, like, my favorite character ever.

    Lollius Palicanus:
    ‘Feminazis’, really?

Well, I don’t know about you, but ever since I read Dworkin I’ve been feeling this overpowering desire to take Czechoslovakia. It’s the strangest damned thing. I keep telling myself: “Myself, don’t be ridiculous. Czechoslovakia doesn’t even exist any more! You’re living in the past!” But it’s just no good.

  21. afartherroom,

I saw at least one tweet that claimed the execution scene was “ruining” Jon and was totally off character (I assumed it was an Unsullied) and since they’ve completely destroyed book Jaime at this point, I got pissed haha. I think I saw a few other tweets who were unhappy with it, too. It wasn’t a majority opinion, though.

  22. afartherroom:

Now that’s pure gold! (Speaking of which, I gotta rewatch, it’s been a while. 🙂 )

Well, he wasn’t bad either when noticing that ‘two is extra’ to High Septon.

  23. @axechucker, that was again a great roundup. I liked the wedding comments and it made me wondering. We of course had the red and purple weddings which both were rather deadly -once in a terrible and once in a rather appreciated way (although Jack was excellently portraying Joffrey). This week we had kind of a green (ie Tyrell) wedding without any blood and just the two Queens bickering (wasn’t that fun?). I am seriously worrying whether the planned pink (ie Bolton) wedding will go down without incidents and I fully agree with Bex that one needs extra alcohol to calm our nerves. Can’t wait to read her partII on the starkopalypse…

  24. Feellikepdiddy,

Wow, interesting! I don’t have a twitter account, so I missed that reader response. I guess “merciful” must have somehow become so utterly intrinsic to their understanding of his character that any less than merciful action seemed to them like a violation of it?

    Huh.

  25. If Brienne of Tarth kills Stannis I will shit a fiery brick

I completely sympathize with this. I’ve been anxious about Stannis since monday. That broody Brienne should keep her hands off him.

Well, Czechoslovakia sort of looked like a p-… Hm. Anyway, the Slovaks were kind of asking for it… Nope. This isn’t going anywhere good.

  26. ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN

JON SNOW NOT SAYING “EDD FETCH ME A BLOCK” IS JUST ANOTHER IN THE LONG LINE OF D&D ALTERING OR COMPLETELY CUTTING EVERY SINGLE CLASSIC LINE FROM THE ENTIRE SERIES

    “JAIME LANNISTER SENDS HIS REGARDS”

    “ONLY CAT”

    “DRACARYS! DRACARYS! DRACARYS!”

“TYWIN LANNISTER IN THE END DID NOT S*** GOLD”

“A READER LIVES A THOUSAND LIVES”

“I HAVE BEEN DESPISED BY BETTER MEN THAN YOU EDMURE”

    “THAPPHIRES”

    “I DREAMED OF YOU”

I COULD GO ON AND ON WITH THIS (ESPECIALLY WITH JAIME QUOTES)

BUT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SAY OH ITS NOT THAT BIG OF A CHANGE OR OH NO ONES GOING TO MISS THAT – ITS LIKE IF YOU WENT BACK AND WATCHED YOUR FAVORITE QUOTABLE MOVIE LIKE STAR WARS, PULP FICTION, FORREST GUMP, AMERICAN PSYCHO, ANCHORMAN, AIRPLANE, BLAZING SADDLES, MONTY PYTHON, CASABLANCA, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS ONLY YOURE WATCHING THE TBS TV VERSION AND ALL THE BEST LINES, THE LINES YOU LOVE, THE ICONIC LINES THAT WERE SO PERFECT AND SO AMAZING AND THAT STUCK WITH YOU FOR ALL THOSE YEARS AND YOU DROP INTO CASUAL CONVERSATION AND CAN GO BACK AND FORTH WITH WITH YOUR FRIENDS HAVE SUDDENLY BEEN ALTERED CHANGED CANCELLED AND ARE SIMPLY GONE

MOST IMPORTANTLY THESE ARENT CHANGES MADE SIMPLY FOR RATING LEVEL LIKE ON TV BUT THEYRE MADE FOR REASONS UNKNOWN TO US THAT ARE LATER EXPLAINED IN OFF-HAND REFERENCES IN INTERVIEWS AS IF IT WAS ALL NO BIG DEAL AND OF COURSE THEIR DECISION WAS BEST (EVEN WHEN PEOPLE POINT OUT THINGS LIKE JON SNOW LITERALLY ALWAYS HAS HIS SWORD ON HIM)

GRRM HIMSELF LAID OUT THIS POINT YEARS AGO TALKING ABOUT GONE WITH THE WIND AND THAT WHILE NARRATIVE ADAPTATION MAKES SENSE IN ORDER TO COMPRESS A NOVEL INTO A MOVIE-FRIENDLY RUNTIME BUT THAT SMALL DETAIL CHANGES MAKE NO SENSE (LIKE CHANGING THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN SCARLETT IS SAID TO HAVE) BECAUSE THE CASUAL VIEWER WILL NOT REALIZE THE DIFFERENCE BUT THE BOOK FANS WHO MADE THE NOVEL SUCCESSFUL AND ENABLED THE ADAPTATION TO EVEN BE MADE IN THE FIRST PLACE AND MAKE UP A LARGE AND OFTEN MAJORITY OF THE AUDIENCE ARE JUST GOING TO BE ANNOYED AND OFFENDED WHEN LITTLE DETAILS ARE CHANGED FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN AN INFLATED SENSE OF EGO AND HUBRIS ON THE PART OF THE PRODUCERS

TO WIT – WHEN A NOVEL HAS BECOME SO BELOVED AND SUCCESSFUL THAT AN ADAPTATION IS PRODUCED – THE RULE OF THUMB OUGHT TO BE ADAPTING TO MAKE THE MATERIAL SUITABLE FOR SCREEN NOT ADAPTING IN ATTEMPT TO MAKE THE MATERIAL “BETTER”

NOW SOMEONE FETCH ME A BLOCK

  27. Oh, that hashtag!!! #TheNodThatWasPromised I *heart* it. All the tweets about the Stannis Boner & Aphrodisiac scene when Jon Snow Swung his Sword LOL. Total porn! Also: Jon Snow didn’t get The Hiss!

Excellent summary. And the Storify works great on my end.

  28. I love the sudden Sansa love. I hope she manages to kick some ass by the end of this season.

  29. Tormund’s Woman: Also: Jon Snow didn’t get The Hiss!

Totally. GoT is currently a tale of two dragon heads and the heads they remove. I enjoy how disparate GoT threads seem to echo one another, with vastly different results.
