Wonder why Stannis is splattered with blood.Guess he does get a fight after all.

Yeah, I kinda wondered the same thing.. It actually looks like he recorded this right after the battle. It’s atleast raining that’s what I know. Might be we are getting Deepwood Motte.

  2. Very nice!

I guess the staircase behind Maisie is our first glimpse to the House of Black and White. Looks great!
  3. sj4iy,

It’s really curious. I didn’t expect him to get any action. I was so sure

the Battle for Winterfell would happen this season, but people have slowly convinced me otherwise, especially because we now know we’re definitely having a fight at Hardhome in episode 8, and two icy battles within the climax of a season is probably way too much.

So, who does Stannis fight? He’s got the armor on, and lots of blood, so it’s a proper battle and he fights personally in it.

Does he go to Hardhome too?

That would surprise and confuse me a lot.

    It’s gotta be something else.

  4. I would have chosen Lannister out of those four, but Dillane is so awesome and in character in the clip (what with that get up, the blood splattered all over his face, and Stannis tone delivery) that I almost felt like bending my knee to the Baratheons LOL

    Good thing #WeDoNotKneel.

  5. From this I can gather that we are getting Stannis leaving the Wall and his battle at Deepwood Motte (maybe ep 7?). We know they are going to the end of the Meeren and KL storylines, but probably not the entire Northern storyline judging by the trailer (else we would have had more winterfell or snow). I’m guessing Hardhome is included to push the Northern storyline further back, while including action for that storyline (like Craster’s keep). We could still get the pink letter and all that in ep 10, but in that case there would have to be a lot of focus on Reek and Stannis, which I’m doubting now.
  6. These make me think of, like, a Dune PC game cut scene. Not that that’s necessarily bad.

I think Stephen Dillane tries the hardest to inject acting into a stilted set-up, and perhaps the fake blood has to do with that.

  7. Those are nicely done 🙂 I approve.

Well, not of NCW’s ongoing haircut tragedy, but other than that I approve.

  8. Would have been keen if Michelle Fairley had done the Stark video instead of Maisie. 🙂

    Oh, slap me silly!

  9. Annara Snow,

    1. Because David and Dan have given them the least attention and attempts to make them likable, which may lead to much of the storyline being cut, or rather, postponed like I suggested.
    2. Because the trailer showed one shot of reek and no shots of Stannis (cept for him and the others around the fire) or any of his journey, when they are some of the biggest parts of ADwD. They did show a map full of Bolton markers, which may be Stannis planning his attack+ this video that indicates the Motte, but I’m guessing that’s all we’re getting this season.

    1. Theon is D&D’s favorite character, by their own words. He had the second most screentime in season 2, and way more screentime in season 3 than he should have. And they’ve also tried to make him more sympathetic than he was in the books at that point (writing a letter to Robb and contemplating sending it before he burned it – he never had such a moment of conflict in the book).
    2. Since when are trailers indicative of characters’ screentime in the actual season? Not to mention it’s just the first trailer anyway. (I remember when people were pissed off that Sansa was in the first season 4 trailer for just a split second. She had more shots in the next trailers. She had 6th biggest screentime in the actual season 4.) If you go by this trailer, Arya will barely be in this season. Somehow I doubt that.

  11. Annara Snow,

Yes they did a good job with him in season 2, but they butchered it in S3. He was solely there to create some early-season excitement, and so he would be in the season. And my point stands on Stannis. The fact that he got his own video now was a surprise. Theon was ok in S4, but the dreadfort attack was…well, dreadfull. And awkward. They did show winterfell and all, but I seriously doubt they’ll flesh out the storyline properly, not just because of the trailer. If I’m wrong, I’ll be incredibly happy. Of course a trailer can be misleading, but given how much else they have to focus on (especially near the end), I stand by my suspicion.

  12. Annara Snow,

I would have liked to have seen a Martell too. If they were going to go with actors who had already been in the show up to and including Season 4, I guess Indira Varma would have been the only person they could have used. Would Ellaria have counted as she is the late Oberyn’s paramour and not a Martell by blood I wonder? Probably not.

  13. Jeb,

I gave up hope with “The Lannisters send their regards.” Go back a few threads…I wrote a nauseating essay about it. 🙂

But I will forever amuse myself over it. Long live “Only Cat!” Long live our stoned lady of hearty darkness!

  14. Hodor’s Bastard,

Yeah, I saw your post. we’ll see, I guess, but you’re probaby right. My post was just in jest really anyway, but I know people are specuatig that Sansa might take on some of the role.

  15. Hodor’s Bastard,

If I was just a tv fan and see Jaime Lancaster sends his regards… “oh so Jaime organized the red wedding omg I hate him wait so when did he come up with that plan I’m so confused”

The lannisters send their regard….. “it was those treacherous lannisters meaning tywin and cersei and joffrey I hate them all except jaime he seems to be redeeming himself lately still he hasnt fulfilled his oath to get the stark girls back thank god cat is dead or she would be really mad at him and Brienne”

  16. Jeb,

For some reason, all this S5 stuff regarding Jaime in Dorne really has me fired-up regarding TWoW’s highly-anticipated

Jaime-Brienne-LS-BwB business meeting. What the heck is going to happen? How will Jaime get out alive? Possible scenarios could be….

    1) Jaime fights his way out (no)
    2) Jaime escapes from Brienne before the meeting (improbable)
    3) Payne surprises Brienne and saves Jaime (maybe)
    4) LS gives him a 2nd chance with another deal after another bath monologue (no)
    5) Brienne sacrifices herself for Jaime (no)
    6) Brienne never takes Jaime to LS (maybe)
    7) BF plays a role? (long shot)
    8) Nymeria’s wolfpack attacks and only Jaime survives? ( 🙂 )

    What else?

In any case, I refuse to believe that this upcoming (book-only) meeting doesn’t change things in very big way.

  17. Eurio,

I disagree. In S3, Roose had dinner with Jaime and Brienne (post Locke, post-hand) and knew all about their deal with Cat, and even approved his escort to KL in hopes of a good word to Tywin. He had every reason to stick with the original wording (to make it hurt for Cat, who he disliked), especially since he also allowed Locke to keep and torture Brienne. If the showrunners had wanted to have LS in the show, they would have stuck with the original phrase.

  18. I’ve always pledged my loyalty to House Targaryen.

With a simple caveat that I will not raise a hand to harm any Starks.

If they ever start killing each other I’m going to be so torn.

  19. House Lannister for me, but that is only because Tywin remains my favorite character. And Tyrion is in my top 5 too.

  20. Hodor’s Bastard:

The idea that the inclusion of LS depends on whether Roose Bolton said “Jaime Lannister sends his regards” or “The Lannisters send their regards” is one of the most baffling ideas I’ve seen around here (and there’s some tough competition in that regard).

And yes, there were excellent reasons to change that line, since many viewers would have been really confused and wondered if Jaime had something to do with organizing the Red Wedding. Many book readers were confused as to what that was about – I didn’t catch it the first time, since I forgot that line in the Jaime/Roose conversation – and the host of Podcast Winterfell, despite having seen season 3, even wondered if that was supposed to mean Jaime was in on the Red Wedding plans and tried to remember the part of the conversation that may have indicated he was.

  21. If you aren’t down with Baratheon, you’re a peasant. We’re tall, dark, handsome, athletic, natural warriors, natural drunks, strong, physically gifted and will sack your stronghold and steal yo gurl.

    Come at us.

  22. Annara Snow,

Ok, Ok…I get it. It’s just my thing. My vice, I’ll own it. In the show, if Roose had turned his head and looked at Cat directly while he gutted Robb and said “Jaime…”, we would have seen LS in S4 (or S3 ep10 epilogue). 😛

  23. Crabber’s Son,

    Interesting

but would LS tolerate that? Another risky trial by combat (she remembers Bronn, right? and GRRM has done tbc to death…) Would she risk Brienne again? Also, I can’t imagine the BwB would hold back. Jaime and the Mountain are the reasons why the BwB was formed in the first place. My guess is that Brienne and Jaime never make it to the LS meeting….
  24. I wish they would give Stephen Dillane a new costume. He’s been wearing that same outfit since he joined the show. At least give him a nice fur-trimmed cloak to keep warm!

I would also like to see him grow a big ‘northerner’ style beard. That is all.

  25. Hodor’s Bastard,

well lsh is willing to hang brienne already, she only lets her go because she wants jaime dead even more. i think it would be a trial by combat that we have never seen before, two characters being in love and having to fight it would be the most heartbreaking fight for them. I think ultimately jaime would win simply because i think he has more story left and i dont see briennes story going anywhere else. Her entire arc has been around jaime and cat maybe she could go on to kill stannis or something but other than that her arc would come full circle here. You could even get into some crazy theories that brienne will be his nissa nissa and oathkeeper (forged from ice) will be lightbringer. If brienne doesnt bring jaime to lsh then podrick will die and hes an innocent and i dont think she would allow that.

If they ever start killing each other I’m going to be so torn.

I’ve always gone back and forth between the Targs and the Starks, unable to choose just one.

  27. Hodor’s Bastard,

I think a deal is possible, if it’s Jaime providing LS and BwB access to the Twins and starting a surprise bloodbath there. They can never get inside without someone official.

  28. STANNIS! STANNIS! STANNIS! STANNIS! STANNIS! STANNIS!

It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO rare to see Stephen Dillane make a video x)

  29. God, Stannis is even awkward and uncomfortable in promotional videos. Blegh.

Stephen Dillane is perfect for that role.

  30. Man…if Arya would have said something at the end like ” But we will have our vengeance…The North Remembers and fear cuts deeper then swords”….I would have lost it!

  31. Gravemaster,

This is exactly what I think will happen. Jamie will wriggle out of that situation by saying “But I’m related to Walder Frey by marriage! Let’s pay him a visit.”

  32. Turncloak,

That’s the wrong link you’re sending me. That’s the IMAX event trailer. They’ve released the trailer on their Facebook page though.

  33. Luka Nieto,

I’ve since fixed the tweet. They tweeted the announcement trailer and then made the dumb Imax tweet right after. Hence why I accidentally copied the wrong one.

  34. sj4iy:
Wonder why Stannis is splattered with blood.Guess he does get a fight after all.

Maybe he was in a fight on set for the last cheesecake. The Battle of the Dessert Table will be sung in every tavern and inn for ages to come!

  35. Hmm, after that awesome trailer, these were a bit of a letdown. They didn’t even edit out the ‘go for it’ in the vid for the Mannis.

  36. I bend the knee to the one true king of Westeros, Stannis Baratheon. And IF Daenerys ever decides to leave that Meereenese sh*thole, I’ll bend my knee to her cause… dragons.

I was thinking that Stannis surely goes to Deepwood Motte, cause we have to see Asha (Sorry, Yara…) at least once this season. Deepwood can make a cool battle without costing too much, just two badass characters killing people.

  37. Maginor: I wish she had, her laughter is so contagious

Definitely contagious. I just went to see the IMAX episodes, and the “previously on” scenes before episode 10 showed a clip of that scene, and a bunch of people in the theater started laughing. I was glad I wasn’t the only one.

  38. I’m later to this thread than the late Lord Frey, but suuper excited about these. Glad to see NCW getting some much deserved attention 😉 Why didn’t they use Tyrion for House Lannister, he’s surely more important and popular? Cause, Jaime 😉 Stephen Dillan is ridiculously perfect for Stannis even in crappy promotion videos! No comment on the blood thing but I agree with others it doesn’t confirm or deny any particular upcoming battle.

    As for the Jaime situation..
I feel (based on nothing, my own feelings) that it’s unlikely he will face a trial by combat. He can’t win, would never let anyone else fight for him regardless, and I think major character death or escape from trial by combat is too fresh to use again so soon. That being said I just have no idea what’s going to happen. Clearly LSH has not a shred of humanity left in her and would never let him go (as Cat might have, she might see what he could be worth but LSH wants only revenge). Perhaps they go all Vengeance on the Freys? I’d love it but I don’t think Jaime’s motivated enough. I agree with someone else that I fear for Brienne because I don’t know what future role she could play (unless she somehow joins with Sansa and backs her as Queen of the North and the Vale or something??) whereas Jaime it seems will need to be alive later. To kill Cersei 😉 She slowly becomes King Aerys, refusing to give up power in KL to a new power (Dany + dragons perhaps). Then the valonqar strikes and history repeats itself, they die together (as they should) but he sacrifices himself for the good of all 😉 Possible.. maybe too romantic (in a weird, bloody way) for GRRM.
