New photos of Game of Thrones sets under construction in Split

1First revealed on Thursday, Game of Thrones has made more progress on the new sets being built in Split, Croatia for season 5.

Today, Split.com.hr has a fresh batch of photos of the work being done in the Duilovo area, in front of the old Hotel Zagreb. It’s unknown at this time what purpose is intended for the location but popular speculation points to the columned set being used in the storylines for either Braavos or Meereen.

It’s believed that filming will begin in the Split and Kastela region in the next couple weeks.

Wilko Johnson recovering and eyeing a return to Game of Thrones

WilkoJohnsonIt looks like we may not have seen the last of Ned Stark’s executioner on Game of Thrones.

Fans last saw Wilko Johnson as Ser Ilyn Payne, the tongueless knight in service to the Lannisters, in the season 2 finale, “Blackwater.” Johnson stepped away from the show after being given a terminal diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Two years later, the musician and actor has undergone life-saving surgery to remove a tumor, and according to a friend, is now considering a return to Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones wins four Creative Arts Emmys

Game of Thrones raked in the Emmy nominations this year, dominating the technical categories. We’ll see if they bring home the awards tonight, as the Emmy Creative Arts Awards ceremony takes place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

The ceremony begins at 4PM Pacific Time, 7PM Eastern. The awards show won’t air for another week, but we’ll be posting the winners tonight, as soon as the information becomes available!

Update! The categories have been announced, and Game of Thrones has won four Emmys tonight.  Congratulations to GoT on their big wins in Art Direction, Costuming, Visual and Special Effects and Prosthetic Makeup!

New Game of Thrones castings hint at spoilers for season 5

guessThanks to WatchersOnTheWall sources, we’ve gotten a look at some of the ongoing casting for a few small roles in Game of Thrones season 5. While the parts themselves are minor, the information contained in the calls offer intriguing teases for next season.

The show is seeking a man and woman to play husband-and-wife Meereenese peddlers. The peddlers will be attacked by thugs who raid their wares. A main cast member runs to help them afterward and asks for info about the men who did it. The peddlers have a conversation with the main cast member, mentioning something that’s upsetting for the main cast member to hear.

George R.R. Martin‘s appearance this week at the Edinburgh International Book Festival set off a great deal of discussion on the subject of gay characters in his A Song of Ice and Fire novels, and the possibility of love scenes.

Today, the author appeared on a Channel 4 news program in the UK, elaborating on his comments at the festival, while reiterating the limitations of his chosen point-of-view structure.

New photos of the Game of Thrones filming prep in Kaštela

banners`1Revealed just two days ago as a new location for Game of Thrones season five, preparations are well under way in the town of Kaštel Gomilica, Croatia. New photos have been released by Kastela.org, revealing that not only is clean-up being done at the filming location this week, but sets are already being built.

Kastela.org confirms that Kastela Gomiliac shooting will take place in early September. Game of Thrones will shoot scenes for the fifth season around the Kastilac fortress and other areas nearby.

They also report that the city leaders hope that the filming will serve as a great tourism ad, showing their cultural and historical heritage. Local extras will be used in filming.
