Hold the Freaking Door!

bird-knockerTwitter time, and I’m still trying to get my head in the game. Because come on. I was affected. You were affected. This is kind of hard to deal with.

But deal we must!

Sue was kind enough to offer me Kristian’s curtain call, which I will dutifully do later this week. And so until then… my humorous-ish Twitter hat is back on!

So obviously we sought out the usual hashtags on Twitter: #GameOfThrones, #GoTs6, #DemThrones, #TheDoor, and the new #ThronesYall (long story) ‘tags. The rest, as they say… well, you’ll have to read.

As per the norm, you can go through the Storify slideshow by clicking RIGHT HERE.

Here’s the rest:

Peace, Hodor, and see y’all next week!

  1. You’re a twitter god, Axey. Thanks for doing this every week, it’s fabulous.

  2. “Summer ended with a crowd surf fail… like so many Summers.”
Wow, that is just cruel… but damn, so funny!! No, I can’t laugh at that, dangit!! 🙁

Yes you can. I laughed at the tweet because it was funny. We are terrible people. This show has us laughing at these terrible things. Seven hells.

  4. I love this:

Shoutout to @KristianNairn for bringing to life the most lovable character in TV history. ‘Twas a pleasure being mini-me to such brilliance.

    sam coleman

  5. Also, the twitter people delivered on the Tormund/Brienne stuff. Those romance book covers stuff had me laughing so hard. GoT has created a ship monster.

  6. btw dumb question – when these are shown around the world, are they in English and captioned? I suspect that hold the door in another language cannot be morphed into Hodor

Suggestion – along with Jump and always support the bottom should include ‘and hold the door’…..

  7. OMG. The HBO Store has all the direwolf stuffed animals on sale right now. That is so mean.

  8. It takes me a good 45 minutes to get through these every week. I can’t imagine what it takes t put them together. Thanks and great job as always.

  9. Ok, so, I love these twitter recaps, and they always make me laugh. This week’s was no exception. Here’s the weird thing, though, my reaction to the episode was shock…sitting…staring…jaw on the floor. There were no tears, though. There are, now. Yep, something about reading through the tweets during this scene Axey put together got the tears flowing. I’m not sure whether to thank you for that, Axey, or curse you. I’ll go with thanking you! 🙂

  10. Aww…Jorah..back when his shirt was still clean!

Thanks for putting these together every week. Always enjoy going through them. 🙂 Looking forward to the curtain call, too!

  11. Freakin’ hilarious as usual! Thanks Axey for this much-needed laugh after such heartbreak.
‏OMG @caseywojtek had me ROLLING about Varys & Kinvara:
I bet the voice said, “WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU THROWING A DICK AT ME? WHO DOES THAT.”

  12. ash: btw dumb question – when these are shown around the world, are they in English and captioned? I suspect that hold the door in another language cannot be morphed into Hodor

In some cases, you can do it with some smart changes. In French, “Hold the door” would be something like “Tiens la porte”.. which obviously sounds nothing like “Hodor”.

So they changed it to “Don’t let them outside”. “Outside” can be translated to “au-dehors” in French (phonetics : /odəɔʀ/), which almost sounds like “Hodor”.

  13. Is this why we have not seen any ice spiders, because they were just wights that happens to crawl up ceilings and walls and got sensationalized

  14. Seeing Tormund give Brienne the glad eye was funny enough in the show, but the screencaps are absolutely slaying me. Just thinking about it makes me giggle out loud. Which takes my mind off the charred black pit where my heart used to be before D&D blasted it into a million tiny pieces.

  15. zod,

That was smart. In polish they translated it literally (“trzymaj drzwi”) which obviously doesn’t sound alike at all. Hopefully most viewers got since many people speak english.

  16. Great twitterings as usual! Besides all of the Tormienne brilliance and Door-Holding sadness, my favorite tweet was Annette_R1’s acute observation:

My first thought about the new Red Woman: please don’t take off your necklace

    Couldn’t agree more 🙂

  17. That was awesome
I cried so much when i watched the episode twice and cried while reading the tweets (and I laughed for some)
In surprised there weren’t any tweets regarding Sansa wearing stark clothes and Jon wearing a coat like neds that part melted my heart

  18. Dee,

How can people say she doesn’t care??

It broke my heart, that voice Sansa said ”I made this for you” I can’t really explain it in English.. but it was just so heartwarming.
And Jon’s puzzled reaction….poor boy he doesn’t know how to react when someone gives him a gift or does something kind for him..

  19. Mihnea,

And then his little smile when she walked away….

That to me was very genuine by Sansa
I’m just worried she may make decisions that would cause a rift between her and Jon… No intentionally. Someone said Sophie said something about a sibling feud.

I am hoping for the best.

  20. What I love about the Twitter recaps is that we’re all watching together like one big episode of Gogglebox ?
Nah, seriously it feels like family ?

  21. Thanks so much Axey, I too can’t imagine what it takes to put these together. I STILL haven’t re-watched the episode, can’t bring myself to do it because I’m pretty sure I’d cry again. These, on the other hand, made me laugh.

  22. I agree with the “D&D treated the direwolves badly”.
Yes the books kill them as well but at least they are there with their masters until their death, they are real companions to the Starks, and real characters in their own right.
In the show they are an after-though, only present when the remaining few bucks from the season’s budget allow a brief (and usually only decorative) appearance.
For the few seconds of screen time that each wolf was granted, killing them amounts to having introduced them only for that purpose which is kind of very weak naratively speaking. And it gives credence to the theory that D&D like to do things for shock value only, because the direwolves in the show haven’t served any other purpose than shocking us by their death.
Cutting them out of the story all-together would have been preferable.

  23. Great twitter-recap, as always!

I been watching a lot of reaction videos this week since it’s like going through all the emotions all over again and also it’s like seeing yourself react – I think I need to set up a cam just for myself to watch my own reactions in the future..!

    Dee,

Dee, it would be sooooooo fun to see you doing a reaction video – judging by your comments that emotional trip would be great to tag along with 🙂

There are of course many of you guys I would like to see live reactions from :):):)
So if you do one, please share!

  24. Great Twitter recap, Axey. It helped get over the cold, empty feels leftover from Sunday.

  25. andriakenas,

Hahaha maybe I’ll set up my camera for the last few episodes
You would not want to have seen me last episode
    So embarrassing Hahahaha
    Thank you though!

  26. Ok so here’s the deal with Baelish and etc as I see it. Sansa is being cautious with this info. She is sending the only person she can trust 100% to verify its truth. The only person who is at risk if Baelish is lying is Brienne, and Sansa is confident Brienne can get herself out of the situation if she has to. She is not telling peeps about the Vale army because she doesn’t want to be beholden to Baelish. In short, Sansa does not trust Littlefinger.

And the actual meta reason that Brienne is going to Riverrun is because eventually Jaime is going there too I bet. Whether bfish is really there/in charge or not, Brienne and Jaime reunion is happening… Yus…

I am so ready for shit to GO DOWN HARD in KL next episode. I hope everyone/thing explodes.

  27. I enjoy your Twitter recaps, Axey, your analysis made them… fabulous! This week I needed this badly to bring a silver lining on the whole feeling of loss and doom. And I have laughed for several times. Mission accomplished!

  28. It is hard to think that I could READ these Tweets and actually start to cry again. I love how emotional “most” of the watchers felt as we did watching it at the same time.

Axey, the time and effort must have been a heavy weight this week. Thank you so much for girding the loins and making it happen for all of us to enjoy.

It was hard to really find a ton of humor in this weeks Tweets, it was so emotional, but there were a few. Favorite bolded:

    From:
    Melisandre of Assai:
This has been a casual reminder not to fuck with the indigenous people.

Also from the same Tweeter MoA:
Sansa gave Jon an article of clothing. Jon is a free elf. JON HAS NO MASTER.

    From:
    Squire McSquireface:
“This is the worst RenFest I’ve ever been to.” – Arya

    From:
    Shellisandre:
Warty dick? Really? We finally get some male nudity and they give us a warty dick?

I went with the Harry Potter rip because I thought it was fun and clever at the same time.

I also throw props at Axey for his side comment about crowd surfing never being a good idea…. *tears*

(I don’t know if this contest was just last week, but I am tossing these in just in case)

  29. btw, the http address or this page is /hold-the-phone/ Just thought you’d like to know 🙂

  30. Crowdsurfer fail/ like many summers is actually the best this week. Props to the master.

Sam Coleman needs to be included in the Curtain call. He was so excellent!

  31. Thank you Axey for putting these recaps together! These are the best!!!
    My faves this week are:

@BigDamnHeroSir – “Watching fake-Joffrey get slapped is almost as satisfying as watching real-Joffrey get slapped.”

@duckandcover – “D&D was like, “HERE’S THE FULL FRONTAL YOU ASKED FOR.””

@BastardGendry – “Kinvara can leech me any time.”

  32. ash:

Honestly, people who watch it dubbed deserve to have something that makes no sense. Voices are an integral part of the actor’s work and there’s no reason to change that unless the movie is for little children. Not to mention it’s how most foreigners learn English anyway.

In Brazilian Portuguese I heard he says “oh dor” which translates as “oh the pain” which was quite stupid.
