Gwendoline Christie, Aidan Gillen, Kristofer Hivju, and more on set in Northern Ireland

It’s been a fun couple weeks for Game of Thrones set photos, thanks to PAP4U. The photographer has published several images taken recently at the set in Corbet, Northern Ireland, and shared bonus images via their Twitter. This afternoon, there are a few more images to check out! Aidan Gillen appears in the makeup trailer, and we also can see from the new photos that Rupert Vansittart is back as Lord Yohn Royce in season 7:

Vansittart has recurred since season 4 as the Vale lord who serves and occasionally looks after Robin Arryn.

Based on these photos, it looks like the cast members (including Gwendoline Christie, Kristofer Hivju, and Daniel Portman) now have to turn over their call sheets at the end of each filming day!

Here’s Portman with two unidentified young women (presumably crew members) handing over the papers:

Unfortunately, the photos just aren’t big enough to glean anything from those call sheets but perhaps someone else will have better luck with it. The photographer also captured a few images of the backstage goings-on at Linen Mill Studios. The ship is a permanent fixture there- Game of Thrones uses the same one every year, and redresses it as needed for scenes.

  1. I’m curious what “The Big Tree” is. Maybe the one in the Godswood of Winterfell?

But am I the only one who sees “Director: Jeremy Podeswa” “Wolf Crew” “Episodes 704 /” from that call sheet (in the second row)? Perhaps someone with better eyes can decipher it lol
    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cult-PDWEAAZgJ6.jpg:large

Edit: I’m less sure about the episodes part but I just can’t unsee it

  2. Please let someone be able to magnify that sheet of paper and decipher its contents… I’ve had no luck so far ?

  3. Awesome!! All these pics of all the actors stepping out of trailer & in the parking lot are probably of the same day (24th September),judging by the clothes of crew members. Our friendly neighborhood paparazzi here took dozens of pics that day & will probably keep releasing them in installment for several weeks 🙂
And now I am dying to see the sequence that brings so many of our favorite actors together.

  4. I think this has to be a scene immediately following the KITN moment with all those characters together, maybe from episode 701.
And there could be another scene later on with Bran and Arya in Winterfell already.

  5. Rich Stark,

Yep… he’s either been on the premises or in the field at the front of the Banbridge studios. Security don’t even let you go down the drive so how the hell he managed this for so long and without being seen I’ll never know- I guess it’s a paps trade secret! ?

I’m sure we’ll keep getting more delights from the 23rd but one things for sure- security will be watertight after this!

  6. It also says Saturday 24th September. I can see the Wolf Crew bit and it does either say episodes 701 or episodes 704. Then I can see it says Unit CA (thumb in the way). Underneath it say fixed cast (I think).

  7. I think we’re going to know more about this season before it airs than any of the previous ones, if the past month or two are anything to go by!

Not a chance. Filming is just ramping up, that’s why it’s like this. There will be plenty of long days and long droughts. Especially with the later premiere we’ll be getting the premiere date, trailer, and episode titles later than ever before.

It’s going to be a very long wait. The Season 6 finale was already over 3 months ago and we still have at least 8 more to go.

Edit: I’m less sure about the episodes part but I just can’t unsee it

There’s an article out there where Podeswa says that he’s directing 7×01 and 7×02, so if it’s either 7×04 or 7×01, it’s more likely 7×01…?

All I see on that sheet is “The Big Tree,” what could be “Jeremy Podeswa” (just above the Post-It note) and the date “September 24th.” So were these pics taken on Friday or Saturday?

Could “The Big Tree” be an episode title?

  10. I don’t know where everyone saw 701 or 704. I didn’t see anything.

Has Podeswa confirmed what episodes he’s directing?

  11. M: There’s an article out there where Podeswa says that he’s directing 7×01 and 7×02, so if it’s either 7×04 or 7×01, it’s more likely 7×01…?

Do they have episode titles already?

  12. M,

Cannot for the life of me see the episode numbers or reference to Podeswa… but hell, that could well be the episode title!

  13. Looking at the second row, it looks like this:

“Director: Jeremy Podeswa // WOLF CREW // EPISODES 701/[obscured by hand]”

Episodes 701 and 702, maybe? Podeswa did say in that article that he’d be doing the first two.

  14. You would think they had set up a barrier to block that one particular angle right into the trailer by now.

  15. M: There’s an article out there where Podeswa says that he’s directing 7×01 and 7×02, so if it’s either 7×04 or 7×01, it’s more likely 7×01…?

Yeah if the article is correct it would be more likely to be “701” though I’m waiting for something official from EW or HBO. I don’t believe Podeswa actually states the episodes he’s directing in the embedded video from the article; though I can’t see why IndieWire would make it up so perhaps he (Podeswa) let them know off record.

Idk, maybe I’m being stubborn lol because I’m seeing 704 more

It could be the episode title, definitely a good idea. We’ll see

  16. Ma,

Wow thanks!! I can now see Podeswa, but I think it’s ep 704 tbh.

Edit: I also see UNIT (C something) 07:30 pre call 06:30.

But hell, get dem Reddit geeks on the case we NEED to see what the rest of that sheet says! ?

  17. AlexG,

Been wondering the same thing. If she’s not with them, could it be she doesn’t make it back with Bran? Can’t see what other purpose she could fulfil once he’s home… They need to start trimming down the cast- especially with so many in the North.

Of course that’s not to say we won’t get more pics in the next few days.

  18. They need to grey Littlefingers hair a lot more…its very dark like he just died it black on top

  19. AlexG,
    Apollo,

Once Meera brings Bran to Winterfell, the show can just write her out by sending her back to her family. There’s no need to kill her off.

  20. DAMN, I only have my work laptop so can only view in paint or photo-viewer…You can make out Kristofers name on the yellow post-it.

But hell, I think the top right hand of that sheet could be a contact list with telephone numbers to the very right.. the entries in that column all contain the same number of characters and structure… and are similar to UK/ NI mobile number formats: XXXXX- XXX -XXX.

Anyone here know how these call sheets would be laid out?

  21. I don’t have fancy photo editing software, but I do have loads of photo editing apps. I tweaked the coloring, contrast, and filters. At what first appearance was 704, I am now 99% sure is 701.

  22. Jay Targ: Awesome thanks!I slightly sharpened the text so maybe others can read what the other parts of call sheet says.I’m definitely more convinced it says 704 now

Here’s the link to sharpened version.Hope it’s helpful, I know sharpening can sometimes make it worse
    http://imgur.com/a/HfjXv

That looks a whole lot better…

Well, folks, I guess episode 7.01 will be called “The Big Tree”

    Let the speculation commence! LOL

This is so exciting. Waiting and hoping we hear anything new about this a bit later.

  24. MeeraReed,

Also, the 4 from September 24th differs from the number associated with the episode. I think our minds are being tricked because the font used, and most of us are not accustomed to seeing 1 in a font so similar to the number 4.

  25. I’ve just blown it up on my pc. Although it initially looks like a 4, it is that difference from the one where it says 24th September. I’m going with episode 701.

Also it makes sense, the other episode number looks to be next to it and it wouldn’t say 704/703. It would say 704/705. The show normally does a director doing 2 sequential episodes, which would rule out 704/705.

  26. Well at least we can be sure it’s S7! ??

As for the possible episode title…
Luka Nieto, may be correct- could be referring to the scene or location (Godswood). Does the date coincide with the Saintfield estate shooting dates?

On the one hand I’m so stoked we may have an episode title so early in the game but at the same time- I ain’t so blown away by this title.

I agree I’m not liking it either, but

I didn’t like the episode title “The Door” either, and look how that turned out!

Ignore my previous post. I’ve sharpened it and it is a 4.

  29. Under “The Big Tree”, at the very bottom of the section, there are two lines, alomst identical to each other. Just the beginning isn’t the same. I’m thinking it’s “Tel” and “Fax”. The Big Tree could be some hotel or something.

  30. George,

    True!

I just checked- these dates coincide with Irishthrones’ report on FB of filming in Saintfield estate (possibly for the Godswood)

  31. If I’m not wrong, D&D once said the titles were among the last things to be ultimately decided, sometimes changing them just a few weeks before airing, so I wouldnt put any confidence in The Big Tree being the definitive title. More likely it’s a codename for a scene or a placeholder title.

  32. The plot thickens… ^^

On a completely daft note, I would like to point out that I am deeply amused by Aidan Gillen’s choice of (excellent) reading material : The Wire screenwriter Richard Price’s The Whites… Could the title be any more coincidentally fitting ?

  33. You guys are good! The only thing I could make out without any help was “The Big Tree” but now I can see the date and director’s name. I’m still not seeing 7×01 or 7×04 but I’ll take everyone’s word for it.

So on September 23rd, Jon, Brienne, Davos, Pod, Tormund, Littlefinger, Lord Glover, Lyanna, Arya, Bran, Lord Royce, Maester Wolkan, 16 year old red-head girl, and 10 year old Northern boy were all filming at Linen Mill Studio. WOW, that’s almost the entire Northern cast. The only ones missing are Sansa and Meera, and I wouldn’t be surprised if pictures of them leak soon. If most of these characters are in the same room together then I would definitely categorize it as a “high stakes” scene. Season 7 can not get here fast enough.

  34. maeve:
    Gravemaster,

There doesn’t seem to be any hotel with that name in NI

Also, it doesn’t make any sense for a hotel name to be in black bold letters at the top of a filming callsheet…
    It’s either a stand-in for “Godswood scene” or a stand-in episode title or…the actual episode title…

  35. If u post one more comment, I’m gonna have eat every chicken in this place!! Sup Kyle?!!!

  36. BunBunStark,

Trying to gauge Sophies movements at this time… she was with Maisie on the 21st according to IG. Does anyone know about 23/24?

I bet pap4u brings out more pics..been saying this ALL along. ?

  37. The Big Tree being the title could refer to some significant scene in WF’s Godswood, but also maybe the heart tree under which Lyanna and Rhaegar wed on the Isle of Faces as the theory goes. dun dun

  38. You dare use the “G” word???!!! I prefer Smart -American!! Say that again, you best have steel in hand!!

  39. For some reason I don’t think “The Big Tree” is an episode title, but it’s a good catch nonetheless. We’ll have to wait and see.

  40. OK so after checking here and on social media, Sophie was in Belfast at this time (21 and 25 Sep), and there are reports of smoke/ mist coming from the Saintfield site on the 26th. So its fair to say Sophie was probably around for these scenes.

Either pap4u has more pics to come, or he didn’t catch her because she was there way earlier or she was in another hair/ makeup trailer (due to the wig fitting).

Off to bed now…I hope to wake up to a some fresh deciphering of this call sheet 😉

    When was Isaac sighted?

  42. Jack Bauer 24: When was Isaac sighted?

Isaac was in the hair/makeup trailer with Maisie in the pictures that were released yesterday. He wasn’t in costume but until told otherwise I will assume he filmed that day too.

  43. Can’t wait to tell my wife, who’s a big Richard Price fan, that his latest novel was recently spotted in the hands of an actor who stars in a show she has absolutely no interest in watching.

    😉

  44. Apollo,

I think the doors are just in the middle of being painted black…I could be wrong though (they could be burnt by dragons?)

  45. Apollo,

They showed her father in the TOJ flashback…do you think it´s too late to bring him back with some sort of witness confession of an unknown story?

  46. That’s a possibility too- if you notice the scaffolding in the vicinity, it’s also black in parts… it’s hard to tell if this is due to spray paint or scorching (I need to stop obsessing over this ?) .

    outdoorcats:
    Apollo,

  47. Apollo,

No, you should’t. Here is my analysis on the ships and gates.

    1) Ships. I think they have 2 ships (or rather 1,5) on the set. The first one with the green screen behind it looks pretty much like Yara’s and Theon’s ship we saw in 610 (except of the golden Kraken on the front but that could have been CGI or the decoration was removed). So, let’s call this ship Yara’s ship. The second one is only half-built (the rest will be CGI), but it clearly looks like a huge battle ship equipped with a ram and a strange doorway in the front. Of cause, it cannot be anything other than Euron’s Silence and I assume this doorway will be used to push out his captives into the sea or similar (the construction is weird, but it’s a fantasy after all and I don’t mind normal ship construction rules being ignored for the sake of visual effects).

    2) Gate. Indeed, it’s the backside of the inner gate of Riverrun and the wall around them is not fit for filming. But I’m sure the gate was used for filming nonetheless. First of all, it has clearly suffered from fire: you can see grey ash at the bottom in the photo with Yara’s ship which means that the bottom part of the gate was exposed to more intensive fire than the middle part, and the upper part remained intact – that’s exactly how fire works. Secondly, in the photo with Silence you can see that the other half of the gate is resting on the scaffolding; I don’t know whether it is out of hinges or never had hinges, but it looks like it was been blown out and then lifted and leaned on the scaffolding after filming. It’s also worth to mention that there were no visible traces of burning on the external side of that part: looks like the fire (and a rather severe one) affected only the inner side of the gate and that it was a controlled burn, not an accidental act of vandalism.
So, what can we make out of that? As I have wrote already, the burnt gate hints to the attack on Riverrun, and I’ll try to explain how I see the possible run of this attack: the attackers used some decoy to make the garrison lower the bridge and open the outer gate; this way they got it into the area between the outer and the inner wall (intramuros); the garrison ran and hid behind the inner gate; the attackers brought faggots and flammables and set the inner gate on fire. However, the gate catching fire was filmed from the POV of the panicking garrison which means: no need for real fire on the external side of the gate – all they had to do was to spill a gallon of gasoline (or whatever they use) at the bottom of the internal side of the gate and film the fire going up; a close shot on the gate catching fire must have eliminated the need of more elaborated surroundings and/or they could have used the green screen where necessary; after the garrison saw the inner gate catching fire (and probably being blown out) it lifted hands in surrender. Done.
And I think it was a short sequence filmed in several days right before the filming of the the ships began (or it could have even been filmed simultaneously: surprise attacks tend to happen at night, whereas naval battles are usually carried out in daytime).
Now time for motivated criticism which I always welcome.

  48. Jack Bauer 24,

D&D could easily just put that down and it can be changed at a later date. Remember they feed false information so spoilers and leaks don’t occur.

  49. r-hard,

Meera may have her own reasons to go home after such a long absence: for instance, she has to inform her family on Jojen’s death.

  50. Halfman,

I’ve said so all along. We may even get some of Sophie yet.

Seems as though he’s trying to drum up as much hype as possible for some of these pics, in the hope that the press will pick up whatever goodies he still has up his sleeve..

  51. Apollo,

Maybe Nights Watch escort Bran to Winterfell while Meera heads to Greywater Watch to question Howland about the Tower of Joy and bring him to Winterfell. I’m sure the watch has been given notice Jon is in control of Winterfell and that the Boltons are no more. Bran and Meera will both know there are ramifications to Jon being Rhaegar and Lyanna’s.

  52. r-hard,

It depends on what kind of the future story they intend to tell, but in general it would make sense, if Howland Reed came to Winterfell in person after learning that his son sacrificed his life for Jon’s true parentage reveal which is supposed to play a significant role in the wars to come.

  53. Stargaryen,

In general, I like “The Big Tree” as a potential episode title.
The weirwood tree of Winterfell is supposed to become Bran’s greenseeing connection port and there is the weirwood tree at which the Night’s King was created: they showed it a lot in the In Production Teaser (1.28; 1.31; maybe 2.02 as well), so we are going to see that tree next season too I suppose.
Moreover, The Big Tree may be a reference to family trees: people going back to their routes or on the contrary going or even breaking away from the trunk which may involve Starks, Targarians, Lannisters, Greyjoys, Tullies, Freys (whatever will be left of them) and almost all the other characters on the show.
And last but not the least, the big tree might be the symbol of the world itself. One of my favorite folk songs says: falcon children on the top (high aspirations), bees in the trunk (people busy with their daily routines), and a certain musical instrument which has no name in English playing the songs of the dead at the routes (it could be a harp in GoT I assume).
So, an episode named “The Big Tree” may be about weirwood trees and family legacies and the structure of the world itself. Sounds great for me indeed.

  54. Anyone else nervous about Kristofer and Liam exchanging numbers?? Seems like something they’d do after someone’s last day of filming!

  55. The big tree is where they got the wood for the big ship and big doors, obviously! I’m looking at this on my phone but will attack the pictures with photoshop when back in work to tomorrow to see if there’s anything I can add to what has already been spotted. Good work so far fellow Watchers ?

  56. It’s cool seeing these pics and all, but whoever the person is taking them should be canned if they are part of the crew. It’s just not cool. I guess its just my inner Ned Stark honor taking over.

  57. I drove to Saintfield from Belfast last Saturday late afternnoon, and through the gates on the right before entering the town, where they filmed the Winterfell weirwood tree in series one, there was a lot of activity up the track with men standing around in yellow hi-viz jackets.I did wonder at the time if something GOT related was being filmed as it definitely looked like access to that area was being restricted..

  58. Hmm. Everyone seems to be in their Sunday best, so to speak. Arya and Lyanna are cleaned up and in ‘dress’ uniform. I think this is an OCCASION. One possibility is Jon’s formal coronation, during which he might have to take a vow by the big weirwood tree. If he would even bother with such ceremony, Arya would certainly come home for it, time and her little list permitting. But Littlefinger is especially dressed up. And where is Sansa? Well, it could be that the photog didn’t get her because he wasn’t allowed to. IMO most likely she’s elsewhere, in her chamber donning her finest threads to be united in unholy matrimony with Littlefinger in the godswood. Imagine the emotions and potential revelations! Weddings in GoT tend to be, er, memorable. This union, dramatically at least, tis a consummation devoutly to be wished.
