  1. The more I look at the sword he’s holding in the picture, the more I see Dawn. It may be a bastard sword rather than a great sword, but I thin it fits the bill and is quite pale.

To me, it looks like the swords he is holding are the exact same ones.

  3. Connor,

I remember from the video that the spy posted of the duel last year that he picks up the second sword after felling one of Stark’s men.

Who knows what the final product will be though, hey?

  4. If Mel says it was all a lie, what was the reason for burning Shireen? I also wonder if the shot of Davos standing in the snow watching a fire from above, is actually him watching Mel sacrifice Shireen.

As for the tremendous ending with Davos saying “Apologizes for what your about to see”, I’m absolutely positive that hes preparing the remainder of Jons loyalist to fight the same Knights watch members that are beating a door down at the 1:00 mark. He’s NOT preparing to fight the men in the room with him, as you can see Edd in the room as well. I’m also assuming the hand over Jons eyes are probably Edd’s as well, as the leather on the arm is from a knights watch memember.

Also, alot of people think that is Stannis burning, but thats unlikely since he apparently lost his head in Mothers Mercy.

First point, I think he’s watching Jon’s cremation.

Second point, that’s the exact same impression I got, as, while the Night’s Watch brothers are drawing their weapons, it seems more like “For Jon!”. If those NW brothers were going to fight Davos, it wouldn’t make any sense for them to just let him pick up and unsheathe a Valyrian steel bastard sword that was the arm of the previous two Lord Commanders. If they weren’t about to follow him into battle, he’d have been dead before he could have lifted Longclaw two inches, let alone get it out of the sheath. Those boys aren’t going to fight Davos, they’re going to follow Davos.

Third point…I’m going all in and say that the flayed man is Roose. If it’s not Roose, I’ll be shocked, actually. Ramsay is staking his claim to The North, but before he does that, he has to stake his claim to his own house, and killing (and flaying) Roose, (and killing Walda) makes HIM the head of House Bolton…and also it’s only remaining member…

My final thought on the pic at the top: The knight is Arthur Dayne, the guy w/o the helmet is Ned. I think the knight’s primary weapon looks a little too much like it’s meant to be Dawn to be a coincidence and, the armor may not look Kingsguard, but I’m going to speculate that, in the show, it’ll be that Dayne, Hightower and Whent chose to wear less distinct armor, to conceal who they really were, so as to not make people wonder who and what were in that particular tower…

  6. Very last frame of the trailer is Jon’s body with ghost lying next to him. Is ghost dead???? Or is he protecting Jon’s body?

  7. Thoros of Myr will bring Jon back… and that is his hand on his face in the trailer.

    BOOM!

  8. The screen shot of possible Jon Snow at 1:17, coincides with the shot of the horses riding at 1:03. If you look closely, it looks like the same white horse in both shots.

  9. The shot of the Knights King with Bran has got me thinking. They have the same nose shape – unlike the Hard Home NK. Just speculating but is this a possible future in which the Green seer will become the NK if they are not stopped and as such that is Bran looking at himself?

The NK May have been recast. Definitely looks different.

  11. Jack Bauer 24: The NK May have been recast. Definitely looks different.

Only reason you’d recast him is if… he has… dialogue… and they needed a better actor.

  12. GeekFurious: Only reason you’d recast him is if… he has… dialogue… and they needed a better actor.

He has yet to fight or talk, so it’s possible. The WW’s probably won’t be in any big action set pieces this season, so we might learn more about them through dialogue.

  13. AnotherGOTfan,

I really doubt he’d be messing with his hair in between shots. Continuity is a big factor, and there’s a reason they go into hair and makeup before shooting. I have hair just like Kits, and putting it up in a bun or ponytail takes the curl out and frizzes it out. You can’t just be putting your hair up and taking it back down without expecting it to look different.

  14. Jack Bauer 24: The NK May have been recast. Definitely looks different.

He looks the same, except for the nose, which was modified via CGI in season five to look way smaller. Let’s wait until the episodes are actually aired.

  15. I am a bit disappointed by this Game of Owns episode. Why make a podcast about the trailer and only having watched it before once? I watched it more than 20 times, went through it frame by frame, read all comments here.. I’m sure most of us did that. That’s why I expected an indepth analysis of the open ends and the unclear parts in the community debates. From my point of view, that would have been more valuable to listen.

By the way, I think there are more exciting things to talk about than a potential Jon Snow frame in 1.17 in this trailer (why is everyone so excited about this?) like: What is Littlefinger up to? Where could Sansa be? What will be happening in KL after Cersey chooses violence? Will the dragons be released by Tyrion? Will the “onion knight” try to smuggle Jon’s body somewhere? What is Bran seeing in the vision besides seeing the Night’s King for the first time (he has seen White Walkers before, hasn’t he)?

Maybe you disagree with my view because you wanted to express the first-reaction-after-watching-the-trailer talk. That’s fine. But maybe then it would have been nice to have one part of the group talk about naive, emotional questions like “what could that mean?” and the other side answering the questions with knowledge and meaning.

Maybe worth feedback for the season 7 trailer episode next year 😉 Chears.

  16. The trailer is great and I enjoyed the podcast. Yet, there is more to come:

Episode 2 should appear in the HBO schedule search results tomorrow, because the premiere appeared on the 4th. The premiere will appear as an item in the viewable schedule in three days. It might have a new picture from S6 with it, if we’re really lucky. At least we’ll get the running time for Ep 2 tomorrow.

I would not know when the episode titles will be revealed officially. Since the trailer came out without any advance warning, the titles could drop any day too. Perhaps they’ll get the S5 Blu-Ray promo and release done first, and then go back to hyping S6. Which is fine.

  17. So much to get hyped for and the trailer was awesome

Just quietly I’m also a tad worrieed, GRRM is able to write such great torturous stuff and twists which when translated to TV has been stunning for people

Whenever the show has diverged, eg Crasters Keep, the writing can’t match the original material and so it drops slightly to “normal TV level” from its “epic level”

So, given they aren’t going off direct material, just general outlines with some butterfly effect distortions, I hope the writing etc holds up

That said, they are revisiting some AFfC stuff they have thus far skipped over so….

Generally speaking the Euron guy doesen’t “look the part” as such, eg I always imagined a dark-haired guy with an unsettling and sinister vibe about and of course the eyepatch, but I don’t get that off this Euron, who is submissive in a way book Euron isn’t if the drowning ritual is anything to go by

That said it’s such a big role and I suspect he’ll be able to do well or even hit it out of the park in terms of what is asked of him and in terms of how the show is choosing to explore his character and Kings Moot etc

Would have been nice to get a shot of the Randyll but oh well, probably the best trailer I’ve seen them make so far

Honestly I hope they do further CG enhancements, because that looks nothing like the Sept of Baelor we’ve seen in the past.

  19. Love the synergy between WOTW and GOO – great listen as always

NK does look different from previous seasons – and weirdly similar to Bran – but there is no telling when this ‘vision’ takes place – i’m guessing back in the day and he’s aged badly #noavonladiesnorthofthewall

TOJ clips are amazing – 6 men lead by Ned shot – but they refer to 7 v 3 in the books – is sneaky crannogman Howland Reed missing from this shot?

  20. Great job with the Podcast as always GOO. I love the immediate reaction and enjoy the genuine excitement and emotion that is on display with the crew when reacting to the trailer like the rest of us do.

I come here for the breakdown of each scene, I go to the Podcast to share excitement and speculation.

    Keep up the good work.

  21. I am now convinced Ghost is alive in that last bit of the trailer. If you freeze frame it, you can see that his back is moving upwards and expanding, consistent with breathing.

  22. Luka Nieto,

Also, who’s to say a White Walker can’t somehow evolve or change a bit. They’re magical creatures/beings.

Or it’s just a CGI upgrade.

  23. Why isn’t anyone talking about Tyrion in the dungeon with the light, with the next scene showing the dragon (red winged one) that were locked up! Will Tyrion release them and possibly ride them?

  24. GODS!

Cercei vs. Tommen – I LOVE IT! The big face off.
He may be the valonquor – younger brother – that comes to get her….that would be a twist.

I can’t believe the way I am cheering so hard for Cercei and Strong against the sparrows. Of course I hate Cercei, but those sparrows I really, really hate. The arrogance and judgement…

  25. Ghosts Lunch:

Yeah…that’s like… only in book purists minds.

Is it her valonqar, or any valonqar though?

  27. Mr. Bungle,

Not necessarily. Dorne was despised by all, and I concur on Craster’s Keep which I personally didn’t like. It was too much of a stretch with Locke and all, and way too conveniant in the timing.

And the Night’s King has the same face, just a CGI upgrade

  28. jentario,

”Despised” is way to harsh a word.

I know people who even liked Dorne…. Mostly show-watchers only, true.
I think here is the problem. Book-reader expected some new big storyline and where dissapointed.
While show-only watchers saw it just like a short detour in Jaime’s story.

Now of course there where show-watchers only who disliked Dorne, but I just think saying that everyone ”despised” it is not true.

Also I really liked Jon at Crasters….I wasn’t on this site when that episode aired, so I don’t even know what people disliked at it..

  29. jentario:

I like Dorne. I’m currently at the end of my rewatch (about to watch Mother’s Mercy) and I enjoyed Dorne just as much this time around. Just the sets and costumes alone are amazing.

  30. jentario,

I get your point. But if you only watch the show, and you’re not a book reader, like the majority of the audience, you wouldn’t know when something is from the book and when it’s not. So you just would be like “That’s great” or “that sucks”…so all the “writing can’t match the original material and so it drops” it only happens on the book reader (mostly purists) minds.

  31. They’ve confirmed on Twitter that the event next week is for the Season 5 Blu ray/DVD release.

Yeah, ToJ is just as exciting for a first ever look at Howland Reed as it is for young Ned and hopefully Sean Bean flashback plus Arthur Dayne and Lyanna etc

As for NK, if it’s in the distant past it’s possible it’s a different ‘Night’s King”, that’s going off a suggestion by GRRM that the Night’s King is the Champion of the Others side and can change from time to time. Think he said that because of some speculation the present Night’s King and the mythical one from the long night would be the same

  33. mkbean:
Is it just me or is no one talking about the smoke around Jon’s body?

I noticed it too. Almost mystical smoke gathering around him!!

Yeah initially I thought he was about to fight the men in the room but now after people have pointed out Thorne and co bursting open a door I actually think he is rallying them

A big clue is if the men in the immediate room were about to pinch Jons body as part of an act of some kind of disrespect, Ghost would likely be growling but instead he is seemingly asleep or relaxed around immediate company so doesen’t perceive them as a threat

Part of me wonders aloud if the escape of Sansa causes Ramsay to send the Pink Letter to the Night’s Watch as that is presumably where she would go if we recall him telling her he’s the LC. The traitors then probably want to grab his body to send to him as a gesture of goodwill and loyalty so the Boltons don’t attack?

  35. Mr. Bungle: Yeah…that’s like… only in book purists minds.

Not really, Crasters Keep was rather quite corny which is at odds with the rest of the show

Sand Snakes (in the show) too

  36. Jack Bauer 24: I like Dorne. I’m currently at the end of my rewatch (about to watch Mother’s Mercy) and I enjoyed Dorne just as much this time around. Just the sets and costumes alone are amazing.

Visually it was fantastic, thanks largely to the Architecture etc and they have got the dress style about right

  37. J Lee:
The more I look at the sword he’s holding in the picture, the more I see Dawn. It may be a bastard sword rather than a great sword, but I thin it fits the bill and is quite pale.

You might be right actually, the bit that isn’t covered in blood (lol he’s got someone already) does look subtly pale

Seems like his killed one of the Northmen already and is using his sword in his oft-hand

This I suspect, is going to be a fantasically choreographed spectacle and the guy that have pretty slick with his sword skills

  38. In the trailer when it shows sansa, behind her is a sigil with a fish on it..could he be rescued by blackfish or his men? :)Is she in Riverlands?

  39. Just some notes. Ghost is definitely neither asleep, nor mourning. It is standing exactly in the posture dogs and wolves take when they are threatening to attack and it is looking towards the door. I think that before breaking the door sir Alliser will demand Davos and co to open it in a good will and to give them Jon’s body and Ghost as well. Oh, I would love if all these swords were drawn “for Ghost” rather than “for Jon”! That would be such a great redemption for killing Lady in S1, but that’s just a dream.

Going back to serious issues, does anyone noticed that the eyes of the wolf head carved on the pommel of the Longclaw were glowing blue when Davos picked it? I don’t think it’s some coincidental play of light. And yes, there was some mysterious smoke around Jon’s dead body – I noticed it too.

And last but not least. Some days ago I wrote that my heart will be in a big conflict with itself, if Mel resurrects Jon without any atonement for her sins. Well, the trailer gave me exactly what I wanted and now I feel almost sorry for Mel and now I am a believer sure that Mel will bring Jon back to us… from the second attempt. And I still think that some involvement of Davos and other Jon’s friends will be required, as well.

  40. Just because we see King Tommen and his guards walking down through the court and Cersei walking up….does not mean its the same scene or that there will be any kind of “face off”. I think the lighting is slightly different between the two which indicates to me, two separate scenes all together.

  41. JTB,

How would Davos be watching the sacrifice? He was at Castle Black the entire time. As far as Mel saying it was all a lie, she is saying it after the sacrifice and Stannis’ subsequent defeat. In other words, at the time of the sacrifice, she still believed her fire visions.

  42. Inga,

Finally, someone else who realized Ghost is standing in that scene! Jon’s head is at the very end of the table, so there would be no room for ghost; also, if you pause the scene an look closely, you can see the edge of the table against Ghost’s hindquarter (Ghost is flipping huge!).
Anyway, I hadn’t noticed the blue on Longclaw, so I’ll get it another look. However, it seems more likely that the line reflecting off of the black eyes just made them appear to be glowing blue.
The fact that they moved Jon’s body inside, placed it on a table, and our now taking up arms against the mutineers has some pretty strong implications. Also, that scene makes me love Davos 10x more!

  43. Ashley,

I don’t want to believe that (I’m a Theon sympathizer), but I suppose it would be a good finale for his arc; he lets himself get caught so Sansa can escape, finalizing his redemption. Now I’m sad.

  44. Every time I see someone comment on youtube or whatever something like “Bring Jon back!”, etc. I’m just like… “Nawwwww, it’s cute you think he’s gone”.

  45. Dwm,

OMG, finally someone who says the words I’ve been feeling in my heart (and said out loud). I agree about Ghost and his stance. I’ve said that since watching the trailer in slow motion AND on a big screen tv on HBONOW. On HBONOW I don’t see Long Claw’s eyes glowing blue nor do I see “smoke”….I will watch it again when I get back home. I can’t tell you how many times I have watched the trailer just to hear those words from Davos…10X indeed!!!
    The Hype is Real!!!

  46. JTB,

I don’t think she means it like SHE was the one who lied. She actually saw the stuff she saw in the flames, but what she saw was apparently a lie because it didn’t happen. That’s why she’s crying.

  47. In the scene with the hand over Jon Snow’s eyes, what is on the thumb of the hand? Can anyone make it out?
