  1. History of Westeros is fascinating. I thoroughly enjoy listening to their shows when it becomes available as a podcast, but for the life of me, I can never put my finger on how they *truly feel* about the episodes. This particular episode being no exception. It seems that they generally praise it, even though there is “a lot to criticize.” But then, I don’t hear them criticizing a lot. Maybe it’s just me.

They also have the book to show episodes, too which discuss some of the implications in ASOIAF. Would highly recommend them to anybody interested in the books, too.

  2. Any news about the season 8 OST? I’m honestly waiting for that release more than the finale. They released season’s 6 and 7 OST the weekend before the finale, I’m guessing this time it won’t be out until after?

  3. The soundtrack sometime gives a few spoilers like The Tower on the season 6 ost and the truth from season 7… Not direct spoilers but enough to analyse etc. So there maybe a track name that gives things away. I reckon it’ll be on YouTube on the Monday.

  4. Sacred Lime,

Yeah, I knew what the ending scenes of season 6 and 7 will be because of the OST release, I was hoping we’d have the same this year.

  5. Just park the dragon!!
    Turn off the barbecue!!!
    Wormsie, noooo!!
    😂😂

Will have to rewatch his Hardhome review, but I think this one might be my favorite.

  6. Stoneheart:
I love Ozzyman’s review, he was more insightful in this week’s review.

Same. He also tends to be very fair and level-headed with his criticisms, and doesn’t resort to hyperbole or tantrums the way others do (especially this season). For the most part, this season included, he’s been refreshingly positive. And he’s funny as hell, so that helps too. 🙂

  7. OZZY MAN is great this episode, imo. His recap and review for episode 5 showcase the two qualities I love about him – a witty summary of the action and an insightful review of the episode. I agree with his review which makes me like it even more!

Thanks Geoffrey for this compilation, you make it so easy for us to enjoy these videos!

  8. May I just add to what has been told about Ozzy that I really appreciate his videos last 10-12 minutes? I really don’t get reviewers who think people might enjoy review videos longer than the episode itself.
Brevity is the soul of wit, guys.

  9. Enharmony1625,

Exactly, and now the poor guy is being accused of getting paid by HBO by some angry mobs for saying positive things. I get the criticisms but also feel like it’s getting out of control at times.

  10. Ozzy man is the best. ‘Soul crushing stare’ gets me every time! I like Blind Wave too, they are pretty positive as well even when don’t always agree with something.

  11. Stoneheart,

Seriously? I swear to sh!t.. some people just can’t let it go, huh? This is nothing new unfortunately, as I have heard people accuse Disney, etc. of paying off reviewers. Do these people realize how much trouble HBO would get in if they paid off reviewers, and what that would do to the reviewers’ reputation? It’s utterly pathetic.

I definitely feel that the criticism is out of control as we approach the end. Again, some of the criticism is valid, but some fans are overreacting to the point of madness. That whole petition going around for HBO to remake season 8 is completely disgusting, and anyone who supports or signs it deserves nothing nice.

  12. Suddenly everyone and his dog is saying ‘foreshadowing is not character development’. It must be this week’s equivalent of not understanding what Deus ex machina means.

  13. Enharmony1625: That whole petition going around for HBO to remake season 8 is completely disgusting, and anyone who supports or signs it deserves nothing nice.

Wishing ill to people who disagree with you about a show ? Wow.

I agree the petition is ridiculous, but come on.

  14. Rob,

Except that it’s a fact. Foreshadowing is indeed not the same thing as character development.

You can foreshadow that something may happen, but you still need to actually get there, character wise. It still needs to be earned through gradual and logical character progression.

It’s not enough to simply leave hints. A lot of character work is needed in order to make such turns work.

  15. Nick20,

Sigh, yes, I know. I’m sick to the back teeth of seeing it repeated like it’s an original or interesting observation.

  16. Nick20,

That petition is a slap in the face to the writers, directors, cast members, and crew who worked so hard on season 8, harder than anyone has worked on another show. If those people had half a brain, they would know a petition is never going to work. Not only was season 8 extremely expensive to shoot, it was a complete ratings success, which is all HBO cares about. Not only that, none of the cast members will return for reshoots. So, giving these people the benefit of the doubt and assuming they’re not the stupidest people on the planet, I’m going to assume they’re only doing this to strike back at D&D for a misperceived slight.

  17. Nick20: Wishing ill to people who disagree with you about a show ? Wow.

I agree the petition is ridiculous, but come on.

It’s not about disagreeing. It’s about an utter lack of respect for all the creative talent that goes into making this show what it is. Every person behind it has worked their ass off. So yes, anyone who supports that petition is scum. Full stop.

By definition, Dany has been showing shes capable of this from season 1 through her words and actions. Seriously this shouldnt be that shocking. So she really got going over the last 2 episodes, boohoo. The pacing of the last 2 seasons has been rushed, yes we all know, but Im tired of people acting like Danys actions aren’t “earned.” Get out from under a rock.

  19. Just wanted to add that I really dig Ozzy Man’s take on the episode! Look forward to them every week, not to mention the ‘Unsullied Review’! Great music too!

  20. Don’t know if this has been posted before, but I just found this spotify list from a Season 8 playlist as inspiration for the show – Bend the knee and give reverence to this playlist envisioned by Game Of Thrones co creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
All the songs relate to the characters and what they are going through

    https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DXdnZT5DhATDx

Also, now might be a good time to watch George RR Martin: “Art is Not a Democracy” short clip, 3mins
Just to regain a little perceptive, it is just a TV Show

  21. And one reviewer who is not on this list, and who is consistently good In Deep Geek from the UK. Everyone should check him out.

  22. viki,

Thanks for posting that clip with GRRM. Everybody losing their minds over 805 and S8 in general should go and watch it.

  23. Another thumbs up for Ozzy Man from here.

I like his format: first a quick and funny recap, then a more considered but short, down to the point review. He points out fair criticisms but doesn’t dwell on them. Also, I like the Aussie accent. 😉

I’m saddened that this week he felt the need to say he’s afraid he’s going to be unpopular for liking the episode. The internet, social media can be a toxic thing. Which is why it’s so brilliant he started his recap with and internet/social media narrative! 😀

I think he was pretty spot-on in the review section, looking at the big picture, what this story is all about.

  24. Ozzy has been my favorite too as many others have said. Besides being funny, he gives good reviews as well.

I’ve decided I’m going off the grid now until after the episode airs Sunday. WotW is the safest place to be, but even here people mention the “L” word on occasion. Others luckily shut them down when it happens. It’s just about unavoidable now on the rest of the Internet. I really enjoy being a detective and trying to figure out what may happen from actor’s interview clues and show foreshadowing, but I just don’t want someone to tell me an actual “L”. That really takes the fun out of it. My mom did this when I was a teenager. I can’t remember the name of the movie, but as I was about to leave with my friends, she said something like..”You’re really going to like this movie, and you’ll never guess the SISTER did it…” She really did say that! and I said something like …MOM?!?!?!

I rewatched “A Night of the Seven Kingdoms” last night. It’s such a beautiful episode and it takes on even more meaning now that we lost Jaime and others last week. I think we truly get to see the characters as we all grew to love them.

So farewell until late Sunday night. I’m leaving all my fan theories behind now and I will just watch what actually happens. 2 more days…

  25. Joseph Mobile,

I also highly recommend History of Westeros, both Show Only and Book to Show.

I think it’s a conscious decision on their part to stay mainly positive. Aziz straight up says it on several episodes. And they do point out fair criticisms, imagine and discuss how things could maybe have been done better, wonder about character arcs/characterizations etc.

During S4 and S5 Ashaya (spelling?) was going off the rails because “…but book things”, and it really turned me off their output. Nowadays, Ashaya has made her peace with it and she’s enjoying the show for its own sake. She straight up says so in one of the recent episodes.

I also really like Lady Gwyn, who’s often a guest in their Book to Show episodes. She is massively knowledgeable about the books but she realises show and book are different things. She brings many interesting insights, and is also trying to glean from the show hints for future book developments. (It almost should be called Show to Book by now, lol!) Lady Gwyn, together with Yolkboy, also have their own podcast, Radio Westeros. It’s about the books but very interesting and enjoyable.

  26. Black Raven: For completeness,

Hardly complete…there are hundreds of frothy vlogs contemplating this show and books. WotW has a very selective list. 😉

Again, thx for posting. My absolute favorite reviewer. His comments are just and well-researched. He understands the show is not beyond reproach and he respects his viewers enough to not batter our bodies with his criticisms.

“Human nature is what destroys Kings Landing…”

Fuck yeah! I am thrilled that he also pointed out the hypocrisy of revenge and redemption in his review. With the wildfire eruptions after Dany/Drogon’s strafing runs, we must acknowledge that Dany, regardless of intent, completed her father’s deranged vision to “be a dragon!”
