Game of Thrones Casting for Season 8 Begins!

raven wide (2)

We’ve reached a fabulous time of the year- Game of Thrones casting time! Can we glean anything about the final season of GoT from the hints that leak out from casting notices? Perhaps!

Our sources tell us a casting is taking place this week in the UK, and they were wonderful enough to share with us two new Game of Thrones season 8 role descriptions.

Both of the new roles are for children!

The first role we’ve learned about is for a Northern Girl. The character will be around age 8, but they are open to seeing actresses older than this, up to age 10. The role is described as being a straight-talking Northern-accented girl, someone remarkable for her dauntlessness and integrity. According to the write-up, she’s been brought up in a family of soldiers and shares their fearlessness. The part is said to be a “very nice stand-out part for a strong-minded young girl with a fighting spirit.”

The role of the Northern Girl is currently set to shoot during the week commencing November 17th.

Game of Thrones is also searching for a Boy aged 8 – 12, with a physically fit and agile look, someone with a good, distinctive face. He’s described as being from a poor background, a boy who has to fight to make his way in the world. The description we saw mentions that they need an actor who can “completely own the scenes that he appears in,” hinting at multiple scenes. No coloring or height was noted, for what it’s worth.

The young actor is currently scheduled for filming the last week of November and the last week of December, but as always with Game of Thrones, things can change.

What do we make of these new roles? The top role sounds remarkably like other Northern girls we already know, doesn’t she- especially Lyanna Mormont. Is this new character possibly another member of the same family? There are other Northern houses though, and presumably as the White Walkers’ army moves south and devastates the North, we’re going to see some of them fall, most likely. Perhaps this girl is a member of one of these falling houses.

The other possibility, one we can never rule out with these child casting calls, is the idea of another flashback-vision sequence. We saw Lyanna Stark before as a child, and she fits this description well enough. This could be her at an even younger age.

As for the boy, no accent or coloring was specified, which points away from the North. A poor child indicates to me that he’s more likely to pop up in King’s Landing, or even Essos should the show venture back there for some reason. The Westerosi capital is a more likely bet, since the place is crawling with poor children- especially little birds!

What do you all think?

  1. Jesus I have chills.I want to cry. This is the last time we are gonna do this. But anyway I love Jon’s kingdom. All his lords and ladies are children.I mean better them than the spineless annoying grown ups that he has.Anyway he should open a kindergarten especially now that he might become a dad lol.

  2. The boy sounds like a young Littlefinger, even if that doesn’t make sense unless he is needed in flashbacks.

  3. I’m just amazed at the momentum all you wonderful people at WotW have been sustaining, with the great articles day by day. Thank you so much. I don’t feel nearly as bereft that Season 7 is done as I thought I would. I know that you kept us all going through the last off-season, and for that I am grateful. Now we are already at casting calls. This may not be sooo bad, but I’ll be interested to see how I feel if we go too much longer than a year. Thank you Sue!

As for the casting calls, haven’t a clue. But I tend to think you are correct in that at least one of them is from an area close to the wall that has to defend itself, or decide how and when to flee. I doubt that they’d film any more of Lyanna Stark, or an even younger Lyanna Mormont, so this is a new character, probably similar to the frightened girl that pledged allegiance to Jon, after he spared her life.

The character of the young boy sounds really interesting. Calling for someone who can “own his scenes” means a lot of action, or defiance for this kid. Maybe the book readers will have a better idea. The casting director always does a superb job in getting to the essence of a child character and finding someone that fits the bill. Can’t wait for pictures.

  4. Now that the Wall has been breached, there will certainly need to be scenes in which Our Heroes get intel from refugees about what’s happening at the front of the WWs’ line of march. Winterfell should be packed with people as the northernmost holdfasts fall.

  5. Hmmm… A daughter of Tormund perhaps? Maybe that’s not likely but at least there has been mention of him having daughters. Other than that possibility, if it’s not a Branvision scene, it seems a little odd to introduce yet another young headstrong young girl like Arya and Lyanna were. (barely any Lyanna in S7).

What sort of past vision could be necessary that would have a young version of a known North character?

  6. I’m just going to throw it out there for the fun of it:

The boy… a Branvision scene of the Night King when he was a boy. *shrug*

  7. Clob,

I’m voting for a Wildling girl too. It would be even better if it were a daughter a Tormund. Regardless, the North is going to be overrun with saucy headstrong girls as well as wights and walkers.

Maybe the boy is part of the Golden Company, in a perverse nod to the whole Young Griff storyline?

Love this part of being a fan – thanks for keeping us all updated.

  8. It doesn’t seem likely to me that they’d cast a girl that can look 10 to play a younger Lyanna Mormont when Bella Ramsey is already a young looking 13 year old. She could fit just fine in a scene that supposedly was a few years ago, and not quite sure why such a scene would be necessary anyway.

  9. There are so few peasant/lower-class characters in the series that I think that, if the White Walkers are sweeping through the North, it would be good if the girl or boy were from such a class background. The Long Night doesn’t just affect the nobles. The girl being from a family of soldiers doesn’t necessarily mean they’re nobles; her family could be longstanding guardsmen, for instance.

  10. My best guess is that neither is a flashback character we’ve seen before or there would be much more specific physical descriptions to match the existing known actor. I love the idea that the Northern girl will be from a house that will fall to the White Walkers, a house of soldiers – implying badasses but followers rather than leaders – so not House Stark. The boy sounds exciting and like someone we don’t yet know.

  11. If this is hinting at a Bella Ramsey recasting, the Internet is going to burn. That little girl is far too iconic at this point to be replaced by another actress.

  12. Thronetender: so this is a new character, probably similar to the frightened girl that pledged allegiance to Jon, after he spared her life.

I didn’t mean that the newly cast girl would be frightened, just that she’d be a new character, much as the other young girl was a new character. as Sean says, being from a family of soldiers doesn’t automatically mean they are nobles. None of the Lannister soldiers that Arya came across were of noble birth, just young boys fighting because they were enlisted, or joined. Easy to see how a young girl from a poor family could grow up with older brothers and cousins who have been soldiers for one noble or another.

Does anyone think the WW are going to head in the direction of Winterfell, or will they just make a straight line south? How far do you think they will have gotten when season 8 opens, or do you think they will open with them just having gotten through the Wall?

  13. The girl could perhaps be Lord Manderly’s granddaughter (Jon and Daenerys’ first stop in the North is at White Harbor and they should show it to give us a sense of how northerners will react to the Targaryen queen)

The boy sounds A LOT like Bronn! but we’re never going there so he could be anything from a flashback Varys to a Golden Company urchin who trains to be one.

  14. RBloodworth:
If this is hinting at a Bella Ramsey recasting, the Internet is going to burn.

It’s not. An age range of 8-10 is younger than Ramsey was when she was first cast, let alone when we last saw her.

  15. Northern girl? Hmm…Glover’s daughter? Or another Mormont?

Boy? Flashback to Varys before he was cut, and then what he hears in the flames?

  16. Thronetender: Does anyone think the WW are going to head in the direction of Winterfell, or will they just make a straight line south?

What I would love most (and know that I am not going to get) is for the wights just to wander around in all directions randomly, getting used to their new space. Doesn’t work with the WW-driven hivemind concept, of course, but the idea makes me smile.

  17. Thronetender: Does anyone think the WW are going to head in the direction of Winterfell, or will they just make a straight line south?

Hard to say, but I think it would be good strategy for the Night King to bypass Winterfell and head South, causing chaos and destruction along the way. A scorched Earth policy, if you will.

This way the Night King would force everyone out of defensive positions if they want to stop the Army of the Dead from taking over and allowing their army to get even bigger. Otherwise, everyone would sit in their castles playing defense while the Night King increases his army size without much resistance.

Basically, force the opposition to go on the offensive in exposed positions rather than be defensive.

  18. Thronetender: How far do you think they will have gotten when season 8 opens, or do you think they will open with them just having gotten through the Wall?

Taking into account their previous movements I would guess they’ll be back north of the Wall standing around. 😛
My honest guess… I can see them opening with a scene of Tormund, Beric and a few others arriving “up top” at Castle Black, having ‘sprinted’ the entire way along the Wall. Then sending out ravens with one arriving to Last Hearth just before they’re swarmed. After that their speed will be slow enough to allow our ‘heroes’ to do what they need to do. 🙂

They better be making some Scorpions and dragonglass bolt heads. I don’t think the NK is going to worry about burning down castles.

  19. Me!! With the right amount of make-up, I’m sure I could look 8-12 again. And if it would be Young Varys they’re casting, I’m more than willing to part ways with my clockwork orange…

  20. Andrey Tsyganov:
Northern Girl, 8-10 y.o. – the most obvious, yes, Lyanna Stark.
    Boy, 8-12 y.o. – hmm… Varys?

YES! We *need* Varys background story, and Meliandre hinted that both she and Varys will be important close to the end, so I think/hope we will get background on both of them.

  21. It is possible that the girl might be Lord Glover’s relation since he mentioned he didn’t want to train “little girls” to fight. Cool if the “little girl” is the one who saves Glover.

I like the prospects of a Varys flashback. Maybe we’ll see what he heard in the flames. However, it could be an LF flashback or just a new character.

  22. Thronetender:
Does anyone think the WW are going to head in the direction of Winterfell, or will they just make a straight line south? How far do you think they will have gotten when season 8 opens, or do you think they will open with them just having gotten through the Wall?

How the show is going to handle the military conflict is a big question mark. I’ve long thought that we’re going to see a long-term siege of Winterfell in the books, and some of the comments in the show in the past season suggest that too (e.g., Sansa’s discussion about people retreating to Winterfell). However, giving the Night King a dragon, to me, means that he should be able to nuke any fortification quite easily.

In truth, it seems to me like we should very rapidly get some sort of dragonrider battle where either the Night King is defeated by Dany (and possibly Jon) on Drogon and Rhaegal or the Night King wins and pretty much wins everything from there. But that doesn’t seem like how it will go, since this season has to go for six episodes.

It’s possible we’ll get some sort of mutual deterrence where Jon and Dany’s dragons are stationed at Winterfell (the “fleet in being” concept, to refer back to naval warfare) and the Night King is elsewhere, and the two sides are reluctant to engage in direct confrontation initially.

  23. H.Stark,

I thought of Wylla Manderley too though the show has curtailed Lord Manderley’s story (and gave an iconic part of it to Arya in the show – don’t want to spoil anything for anybody who hasn’t read the books but might do so after the show ends). Then these roles could be show only characters I guess.

  24. Christina,

That did cross my mind in respect of the girl, in terms of some sort of short jump into the future. Though the call for a “Northern” girl makes that seem less likely. Jon’s accent notwithstanding, I would expect Miracle Baby to have the same City accents that her mom and most of the rest of the cast has.

  25. Young Varys, young version of a servant of the Many Gods, young Lord of Light, young Azor Ahai…some who had to be nimble and survive by his wits.

  26. The Alys Karstark Rule: the time spent reading the description of a role is almost always longer than the character’s actual screen time.

  27. The issue about timing is quite important really.

The support is only just heading north and Dany and Jon are still enroute by sea.

If the army of the dead has got through the wall, how fast could they travel south and be at Winterfell before anyone could arrive to help? They’re not going to really face much opposition that’s going to hold them back – remember, nothing so far has done that.

In fact, the tactic of sending more soldiers against this army is shortsighted since any dead are immediately raised to increase the enemy’s ranks.

You have to use a more targeted strategy which uses focused attacks on the Whitewalkers themselves or you’re just pissing resources down the drain.

No, I don’t see how they can make a convincing case for Dany and Jon arriving at WF with their armies with enough time left for them to meet, have meaningful reunions and discuss tactics before the enemy finally arrives.

Well, they could just forget logic and sense altogether I suppose and put plot first.

The NK has a dragon and can effectively fly all the way to WF and lay waste to it well in advance of the rest of the army and before Dany and Jon were even aware.

I wouldn’t be half surprised if they arrived to find that WF had already fallen.

Strategically speaking, the best thing to have done would be to send the refugees south and form a defense at the neck since it’s the best chance they have.

I know people want a battle at WF but I don’t see it as a great place to mount an effective defence – this is not a normal army they’re fighting in any sense of the word. If Wun Wun could smash the doors of WF down on his own, how long do you think they could hold against a group of wight-giants?

    It’s simply not plausible.

What’s more, WF was a place the small folk would travel to during winter in order to seek food and shelter around the castle. During a siege, everyone has to go inside the castle – you can’t fit thousands of people inside WF – it’s not that big. That’s why they should be sending them south while they army lines retreat back behind them attempting to protect the small folk, until they can reach a place where they can fortify.

The Neck is their only hope.

  28. cuddley crow,

I also think that the northern girl should be Glover’s grand-daughter, cause he metioned her in ep 701. As for the boy, I lean towards a little-bird. Kings Landing must have some plot apart from Cersei plaing with Euron and someone on Team Targarian United should be doing something about this malicous couple. This is where little birds come into play.

  29. Violator,

The timing is important – yes, but we saw that the Wall being breached after Jon and Dany boarded their loveboat. So, it could have been weeks and therefore it will be quite natural, if Bran opens his eyes just to see Jon and Dany arriving to Winterfell.
What comes out of that is that Winterfell will have a strong aerial defence: the Night King is still outnumbered in the air 1:2, so, it wouldn’t be wise for him to risk his ultimate weapon. We may see a battle with dragons, Rhaegal may be killed to even the odds, but IMO Dany will find a way to prevent its resurrection by burning the body. Anyway, at some point both Jon and the Night King will decide that using dragons is too risky: Jon will try to keep Dany and Drogon safe, while the Night King will leave the siege of Winterfell to his leuthenants and fly away to find an easier target – King’s Landding looks just perfect. And there is no need for him to march his army across the country: he can raise a new one wherever he likes. So, it gives us the initial battle for Winterfell in ep 2 or 3, then an episode or two for the siege and its lifting, then comes a suprise attack on KL and the final battle. All fits.

  30. Well, if they are going to re-introduce Howland Reed at all this season, perhaps the Northern girl is a young Meera? Perhaps even a younger than the books Wylla Manderly?

  31. I’ve just discovered that avuncular marriages aren’t necessarily seen as taboo in the North. Even within the Stark family themselves we have precedents for them.

Serena Stark and her sister Sansa Stark both wed their uncles and there’s no indication that this caused any raised eye brows.

The Faith of the Seven might object I guess, but as Jon and Dany would be Targaryens then that’s not really an issue.

What this does for me is finally convinces me that George might not really be planning for much of an issue with the whole ‘incest things’ because he’s built values and customs into this world such that Jon might not have the objections we thought he would.

‘Show Jon’ might, but then that would annoy me because it would smack of moralising by D & D which Martin never does. Besides, if Martin had planned for the two to get over this issue and wed in the books, then they’re going to have to try and make it plausible in the show too.

I’m less concerned at this point about Jon and Dany dying as I am the show taking the route of imposing 21st century values on a world which has carefully been constructed to seem authentic. I love that these stories challenge modern values – not conforms to them.

I would love it if there is basically no issue at all because no one cares that much. That’s not going to happen, but as things go, it would be fantastic and certainly take a lot of people by surprise.

  32. RBloodworth:
If this is hinting at a Bella Ramsey recasting, the Internet is going to burn. That little girl is far too iconic at this point to be replaced by another actress.

This was actually my first thought that they may be recasting her. I hope not but you never know with scheduling conflicts and other opportunities that she may have.

  33. If Briene and Arya start training girls, she could be one of the trainees, perhaps bold enough to question Arya a few times.

  34. My first thought was a Mormon girl- since Lady Mormon did make a point of saying the girls will be training as well as the boys.

Then this got me to thinking that Lady Mormont is not invincible, that she could perish next season. Now I’m sad. The world has no meaning. What is life?

  35. Hey, this reminds me, I thought I saw somewhere that the little bird girl that stabbed Pycelle in S6 was going to be in S7. Did I imagine that or did her scene got cut?

  36. Andrey Tsyganov,
    Andre,

I tried to reply to you earlier today but couldn’t on my phone. Yes, Varys was my first thought as well!!! I’d love to see a flashback to his youth, especially because viewers who haven’t read the books have no idea how colorful his background is. Not to mention I really missed him in S7, as I did a slew of people whose S7 appearances were essentially cameos.

  37. So what ever happened to that newborn baby casting that I heard about from last season? I don’t recall seeing a newborn baby in Season 7.

  38. Violator:
The NK has a dragon and can effectively fly all the way to WF and lay waste to it well in advance of the rest of the army and before Dany and Jon were even aware.

I wouldn’t be half surprised if they arrived to find that WF had already fallen.

That won’t happen, because that would necessarily obliterate huge swathes of the main cast anticlimactically. Among other things.

Winter has come, and when that happens, the Starks hold Winterfell and defend the North. That’s what their whole house is for, basically. If they can’t do that, they don’t have any real justification to be around.

  39. Catspaw Assassin:
The Alys Karstark Rule:the time spent reading the description of a role is almost always longer than the character’s actual screen time.

Ha ha! Very good…and so very true. Did Meg Parkinson have more than 15 seconds of screen time and four or five words?

  40. Violator,

Yes, avuncular marriages haven’t been set as a taboo in the North or anywhere in Westeros. They haven’t been a taboo in real world either, and the Catholic Church haven’t had much of an issue with those. So, even when it comes to the 21st century values, they might be within the limits of acceptible. It’s just that we don’t have so many uncles and aunts anymore, and there is an issue of age difference etc., which makes an avuncular marriage simply a bad choice. Therefore, I don’t think D & D will make some sort of a issue out of that. The only issue will be Jon’s (Aegon’s) hereditary rights and Dany’s reaction.

  41. My predictions-

Girl – Daughter of the awesome wildling lady that died at Hardhome who’s name I can’t remember right now

Boy – Most likely a little bird

Unserious- with the pacing of season 7 the boy is definitely baby Sam aged up after so many years as an infant

  42. Robert,

I remember Varys talking to a little bird and saying something like: it’s good to have a friend (Quiburn), it’s better to have two friends (Quiburn and Varys). Can’t remember when I heard it, was very short.

  43. Chilli: Meg Parkinson

In S07? Maybe it was in the leaked script (didn’t read it) and filmed but cut later.

They probably decided to keep this scene or a similar one for S08 as I strongly believe Varys will be the end of Qyburn through his little birds.

  44. The first casting call for the new season! Hooray!

My first thought upon reading the description of these roles was flashback. The possibilities on that front are extensive – I see that another version of Lyanna and Varys have already been suggested. My second thought actually went to a flashforward/epilogue. That would be something new for the show, but now that it’s the final season, it’s within the realm of possibility. Specifically, I was wondering if either of these kids could be an older version of Jon and Dany’s child (not confirmed, but all but certain). Humoring that possibility for a second, it would seem to be a better fit for the girl (especially if she were to be raised by the surviving Starks), since I seriously doubt that any child of Jon and Dany (the heir to the Throne, if it still exists) would grow up poor. The more I talk myself through it, the less likely it seems.

The simplest, and probably most fitting, guess then is that these are present-day characters. In that case, a Northern Lady (Wylla Manderly? Robett Glover’s granddaughter? An Umber daughter?) and one of Varys and/or Qyburn’s little birds would seem to fit. Regardless, the roles are likely to be small.

  45. Clearly, these are Jon & Dany’s children. Daenerys has lost her battle for the Reconquista to Cersei and her evil, and she and Jon have ended up living in the far north as recluses, after they have successfully killed the Night’s King and allowed the dead to lie peacefully. Few remember anymore who they were, and how they saved all of humankind.

  46. the northern girl perhabs a daughter of a northern lord who survived a battle and coming to wintefell. ir manderlyns daughter.

Dont know why but the boy sounds sounds a lot like a arya facless man mask on her way to kill cersie in KL? She said it in season 7 multiple times.

  47. If it’s a flashback for the girl then maybe a young Asha/Yara. I don’t think the boy is Varys, Varys wouldn’t of stood out his goal since being a kid was to not stand out.

  48. zandru:
Clearly, these are Jon & Dany’s children. Daenerys has lost her battle for the Reconquista to Cersei and her evil, and she and Jon have ended up living in the far north as recluses, after they have successfully killed the Night’s King and allowed the dead to lie peacefully. Few remember anymore who they were, and how they saved all of humankind.

This would qualify as bittersweet. Until we saw Benjen reappear, my personal fanfic explanation was that he and Stonesnake (book-only Crow who is awesome at rock climbing) had opened an outdoor outfitter shop and mountain guide service in the Frostfangs. Maybe Jon and Dany could take over that particular retirement fantasy.

  49. Since so much attention was put into training boys and girls to fight, it makes sense to show some of them in action. It doesn’t mean they are major characters, but there could be story arcs like a keep being overun by the Army of the Dead. Setting up some essentially red shirts that die with a short introduction so you care about them when they die would show the threat the North faces without killing off established characters.

  50. Samson:
    My predictions-

Girl – Daughter of the awesome wildling lady that died at Hardhome who’s name I can’t remember right now

Boy – Most likely a little bird

Unserious- with the pacing of season 7 the boy is definitely baby Sam aged up after so many years as an infant.

Coming in Season 8: Tom Hopper re-cast as Little Sam. 😂😂😂

  51. My first guess was that the girl is a Mormont. What worse is that it could be a recast of Lyanna Mormont. There is a possibilty that this is a younger Lyanna Stark. I go with a Wilding girl though.

As for the boy, a flea bottom character? I have no guess.

  52. It’s intriguing. One person we almost need to see next year is one of Oberyn’s other daughters. They are the heirs of Dorne, presumably. Maybe this girl is the heir presumptive and will be advised by someone appointed by Dany or Jon to make sure she’s a good ruler and not the least like the Sand Snakes! Another possibility–these may be the future children of some beloved characters in a flash-forward. More prosaically, I actually think the girl is one of the trainees Arya encounters/teaches/inspires. And the boy may be Jon and Dany’s son.

  53. Stark Raven’ Rad,

The casting call specifies a Northern girl so probably not one of Oberyn’s daughters… I think you’re right that it’s one of the kids training for war as per Jon’s decree.

The boy is said to come from a poor background so doesn’t fit a son of Dany & Jon – unless Dany & Jon become impoverished at some furure time. I’m thinking a KL urching.

  54. talvikorppi,

I think that boy is going to be one of Qyburn’s little birds, who will later defect to Varys, maybe he’ll be the first one to do so. I feel quite sure that Varys will eventually regain control over the little birds.

I agree that the girl will probably be one of the common girls training for war.

I highly doubt there will be any flashbacks of Varys, LF or any other secondary character, what would be the point. The only flashback I expect to see is if Bran goes back in time to find out something critical about the white walkers.

  55. Anonymous Dingo,
I don’t thing WW will go to WF, probably they try to reach the isle of faces. If the NK (as I strongly believe has power similar to Bran’s he will try to stop his own creation. I don’t want to believe that the NK is a villain per se, the prototypical evil character. If so.. too trivial. In addition, given the figures of the armies, living people can only lose. I expect they’ll try for a truce, if the dead are not going to win easily.
From a strategic point of view, I’ll attack the dead from the rear..

  56. riccardo,

“From a strategic point of view, I’ll attack the dead from the rear.”
    ——————–

Why does it seem that there’s something…perverse about this statement?

  57. Andrey Tsyganov,

Also thought so…but why? why this should be relevant in the final season? maybe because he is a potential traitor….i keep remenbering what melisandre told him at dragonstone.

  58. Laura: Well, if they are going to re-introduce Howland Reed at all this season, perhaps the Northern girl is a young Meera? Perhaps even a younger than the books Wylla Manderly?

That was my first thought. I still think Meera also has a larger role in all of this. And that…

she looks a lot like Jon. I haven’t fully discounted the twins theory yet.
  59. Dragongirl1225:
Distinctive face? Agile? Needs to own his scenes? Sounds like Arya wearing a face to me!

This was my first thought as well. Arya learns of Cercei’s plot with the Golden Company and infiltrates KL by impersonating a boy conscripted to its defense.

  60. So if they are doing multiple endings, to throw off speculation. I think they might do ‘fake’ casting calls for the same purpose. Nothing is certain, no clue unmatched with alternate clues. lol

  61. Blah Blah:
maybe it is Jon and Dany’s daughter

I think you may be right. The casting description says:

“The first role we’ve learned about is for a Northern Girl. The part is said to be a “very nice stand-out part for a strong-minded young girl with a fighting spirit.” ”

It sounds to me like someone who’s taken after her Aunt Arya 👸🏻 and daddy Jon 🤴🏻.

I’m not sure what other Northern “family of soldiers” this roll could be referring to. If it’s the Mormonts, they could presumably age up Bella Ramsay/Lyanna Mormont a few years instead of casting a new child actress.

Do we know of any other “family of soldiers”?

  62. Samson:
    My predictions-

Girl – Daughter of the awesome wildling lady that died at Hardhome who’s name I can’t remember right now

I like this idea! One of Karsi’s dsughters, who I assume has been raised in the North as the Free Folk integrate with the Northerners.

Tin foil possibility: she comes face to face with her wight Mom (ZombieKarsi), who still has a tiny spark of humanity left in her that’s reawakened by seeing her daughter and remembering her (unfulfilled) promise: “I’m right behind you”, or whatever it was she said when putting her daughters in the boat.

  63. Pigeon: Coming in Season 8: Tom Hopper re-cast as Little Sam. 😂😂😂

    On a semi-related, semi-off-topic note;

Who’s the Lord of Horn Hill now that Randall and Dickon chose to be incinerated? Samwell’s NW vows included renunciation of lands and titles, right?
Is he going to (continue to) pass off Baby Sam as his son, so that a Craster Incest Baby becomes the Lord of Horn Hill?

  64. Seeing as how the next season is supposed to take us to A Dream of Spring, could the young boy and girl be the offspring of Jon and Dany or some other Stark?

  65. Ree,

Well mostly it’s common sense. But he was also in Denmark when he took and posted the photo, and GOT production doesn’t take place there.

  66. I haven’t read the other comments yet but like you guys my first reaction was potentially Lyanna Mormont or Stark recasting for the girl. The boy is much harder to place though and unclear where this would fit into the story unless it’s a flash back?

In other news all the main actors will have the full scripts now and with filming set to begin next month it won’t be long until spoilers start to leak. I’m ok with casting new or set locations but I’m going to try and avoid all plot spoilers for the finale.

  67. Thronetender: I didn’t mean that the newly cast girl would be frightened, just that she’d be a new character, much as the other young girl was a new character. as Sean says, being from a family of soldiers doesn’t automatically mean they are nobles. None of the Lannister soldiers that Arya came across were of noble birth, just young boys fighting because they were enlisted, or joined.Easy to see how a young girl from a poor family could grow up with older brothers and cousins who have been soldiers for one noble or another.

Does anyone think the WW are going to head in the direction of Winterfell, or will they just make a straight line south? How far do you think they will have gotten when season 8 opens, or do you think they will open with them just having gotten through the Wall?

Based on what James Hibberd hinted at, I suspect S8 will open with the aftermath of the Wall falling so there will be no progression South as such.

  68. Laura:
Well, if they are going to re-introduce Howland Reed at all this season, perhaps the Northern girl is a young Meera? Perhaps even a younger than the books Wylla Manderly?

Great point Howland Reed is probably the one missing character that makes sense to come in in S8, I just wonder if they would keep such casting a secret?

  69. But where does one find the casting bureau?
I have no idea where to apply!

    Does anyone know?
