  1. Thank you for this. It seems like a few people have already flip their wig before even seeing the show.

  2. I have a bad feeling about this episode but if what I fear will happen happens then I wont be one of these ‘I’m done with this show’ lot because I know ill keep watching and I’m not going to pretend differently.

  3. Quite shitty that some got to see it; go on spoiling everyone while the vast majority (99.9%) have no way of seeing it.. Legal or illegally

  4. And yes, I will ban the hell out of anyone who violates this space and posts spoilers.

  5. I’m really intrigued by this episode, going on what was in the trailer/preview. One thing is quite obvious but it’s not the “action” that I want to see so much as the “smaller” stories. The running joke of Mace getting the flip off again maybe? 😀

And Arya of course…seems that she will have a choice to make?

Mel looks great if somewhat concerned in that pic…

  6. Thanks for the new post, Sue. Sheesh seems HBO needs to shore up their ranks after this season.

So looking forward to this episode. Feels like its going to be non-stop from here on out. So if Mace is going to the Iron Bank, does that mean we get Mark Gatiss in the episode?

  7. How has it taken Mace this long to get across the sea?? Didn’t he leave in episode 1?

  8. Thanks for doing this. Wish it had been up about an hour earlier so I wouldn’t have been unintentionally spoiled by a bunch of jerkwads.

Anyway… I really hope they don’t kill Jorha in the pits. I was hoping that since the showrunners clearly love him and the actor playing him to death, that they’d keep him around for awhile. Plus the whole greyscale thing.

But based on last epi I am not sure. Dany and Tyrion outright rejected the poor bastard. Definitely not what I expected to see – yeah I get that Dany is still feeling betrayed but she clearly misses him too. Plus Tyrion, that was pretty cold. I can’t imagine what he could do that would g et him back into Dany’s good graces at this point. So, the plot doesn’t seem to have anywhere for him to go but down. 🙁

Whatever happens in the pits, I’m sure it’s going to look awesome based on the previews!

They keep hinting that Sam/Gilly is/are going to leave but he hasn’t gone anywhere yet – I wasn’t expecting him and Jon to meet again but there they are in the promo pic.

Brienne better do something she has been in that Inn room for 6 episodes JFC.

  9. Thank you, Sue.

This is the first time since Season One that I’ve been Unsullied and want to keep it that way!

  10. Baihu83,

I believe it was ep 4. I’m hoping for some sort of conclusion of Arya’s story. After hardhome, Arya’s story seems very small…

  11. I’m so fuckin’ pissed for being spoiled about something on a twitter. HBO really needs to get there shit together.

  12. I can’t believe how rude and reckless people are here and on twitter. After 5 seasons I’m an Unsullied and those cunts spoil a big thing like that for me… I just don’t understand how HBO could let this happen again after 4 leaked episodes at the start of season.

  13. The spoilers suck but that’s why I avoid twitter,Facebook, Youtube and so on comment sections over the weekend which is how I stay spoiler free for this and other shows that I watch.

  14. Roocat:
    Baihu83,

When the Tyrells made a deal with Littlefinger, it apparently did not include his travel secrets ….

Love it! Although you just know that if LF has a jet pack there’s no way he’d share it. If he decided to reveal his secret it would be in a “Nah! nah! Look at my awesome toy that you can’t have a go on” way. I don’t imagine he had many friends as a child, perhaps that’s why he’s such a nice, trustworthy person now? 😉

Although I’m personally happy to read spoilers, great job Super Sue on having this separate thread. Anyone who doesn’t want to know what might happen based on anything other than what we have seen in the show so far should avoid the episode open chat and interview round thread below it at all costs. And probably most of the rest of the internet too 🙁

EDIT: And NO WAY will I be cross-contaminating, so you can read my posts without fear of that. Just the usual off topic rambling, rubbish jokes etc.

  15. I’m a big kid and my first love of fantasy books was Anne McCaffrey’s “Dragons of Pern”
    “Dragonsong” been my Introduction 🙂

[pssst no spoilers AT ALL. -edited by Sue]

  16. Roocat,

You know, it is possible for someone to enter a big city like Bravos and not be immediately noticed by one person who has spent all her time indoors. I figure Mace has been in Bravos for a while, negotiating with the bank – takes more than 1-2 meetings, and now that Arya is allowed out and about, she will eventually cross paths.

Arya would have no idea what Mace looks like anyway, but she would of course recognise Meryn Fucking Trant

  18. I’m surprised and disappointed to hear that episodes this late in the season are getting leaked. I mean, I understand how it happened for the first few episodes (although it was obviously unprofessional of the people who received screeners to leak them)… but so late in the season? Damn.

Anyway, can’t wait for tonight! I’m sure these last couple episodes are gonna be amazing! 😀

  19. viki,

Good point. It would actually be yet another example of incredibly convenient timing if Arya bumped into Mace the same day he arrived. If it’s a few days into his visit it will feel less contrived.

  20. I hope that, if Arya kills Meryn, she uses the “What do we say to death” line. Syrio did repeat that line right before going up against Meryn.

I’m more disappointed that jerks are posting spoiler leaks on this site. How can people be so inconsiderate? The internet is dark and full of terrors…

That’s what most unsullied have been saying throughout the past 5 seasons. I got almost everything spoiled for me.

  23. Whoaaaa… So they return from HH on the other side of the Wall?! What’s wrong with sailing to Eastwatch and march to CB from there?! Will Ser Aliser refuse the let them in then?

Jaime be a dear, just swear allegiance to Doran! Can a KG swear allegiance to anyone BUT a king or Queen I wonder. How will that work?

  24. Somehow I’m way more excited for 510 that 509…

Except for Braavos and Stannis camp, I dont expect many surprises or big moments this episode.

Yeah, Daznak is visually stunning (or will be, I’m sure of it), but I’m not excited for Daznak as I was for Hardhome !

  25. Ace of Mace,

Exactly! I had felt this was a community of like-minded fans that want to keep the show as exciting as possible for everyone else. As time goes by though it appears more people show up that feel like they’re special for knowing things in advance. *lame*

  26. Can someone explain something to me? (Unsullied here)
    did tonights episode get leaked?

  27. Deesensfan:
Can someone explain something to me? (Unsullied here)
    did tonights episode get leaked?

I’m sure what I’m saying below isn’t a spoiler in itself and is certainly not intended to be, but mods please delete immediately if you think it is and sincere apologies to everyone, really didn’t mean it to be 🙁

Screen shots and clips of at least some scenes can be found online, as can the trailer for episode 10. Sounds like this happened about 4-5 hours ago and news spread like the proverbial wildfire. Don’t do any searches at all if you don’t want to know as it looks like it will be very difficult to avoid spoilers 🙁

  28. Queenofthrones,

The thing with Jorah being banished is a good thing probably with that greyscale. I do not think he will die in the pit, but protect her possibly. Also what Tyrion said was a good point, Jorah had many chances to tell her. He did it because he was forced to tell. He was exiled for a reason from Westeros and Tyrion knew what he was talking about. Probably a little payback for Jorah seizing him too. I love Jorah though!

  29. davy:
Quite shitty that some got to see it; go on spoiling everyone while the vast majority (99.9%) have no way of seeing it.. Legal or illegally

Exactly, at least when ep 1-4 leaked pretty much everyone with internet access could watch them before getting spoiled the crap out of. Now maybe 100 people saw the episodes and are trolling all the significant events in 1 minute clips all over the internet. And nobody else can see the whole episode until later. GAAAH!!!

    F*CKING S*CKS NUTS! Can’t stand it!

  30. Hodor Targaryen:
I hope that, if Arya kills Meryn, she uses the “What do we say to death” line. Syrio did repeat that line right before going up against Meryn.

    T’is a great line!

I had the Open Chat up two or three hours before I actually read. When I got to the post about Episode 10 leaking, and then the post with the link, and then the post with a major spoiler, I got the hell out of Dodge, but I was very upset because I thought I’d have to miss the comradery altogether. So thank you for this thread, Sue!!!

For this episode, I hope to see:
    1. Something that moves me to cheer,
    2. Something that moves me to tears,
    3. Something that has me on the edge of my seat for 53 minutes, and
    4. Sansa’s auger put to good and unthwarted use.

  31. Tormund’s Woman,

I know, right? They must have finished with Hardhome and said to themselves, “You know what? Losing hundreds of thousands of us to the WW wasn’t nearly enough. Maybe we should just walk the 150 miles home on the same side of the Wall as the WW in case they need more of us.”

  32. Ginevra,

I think we’re all expecting some very memorable tv, for all kinds of reasons: good, bad, happy and sad, but probably not “well that was dull”! I might just sit on the floor anyway in case of any falling off the settee due to general over-excitement accidents 😉

  33. I thought I won’t get spoiled on this site but for fuck sakes….. It was like dozen of people spoiling it, not only a few. I will never come on this site before an episode. Also FUCK HBO because they can’t secure their episodes.

  34. Ginevra:

When did they lose “hundreds of thousands”? Maybe dozens.

  35. lana,
Sorry did you mean me or the people who have leaked stuff? I REALLY was trying to be helpful without spoiling, honestly!! 🙁

  36. To the leakers.

“There’s no cure for being a cunt!!”

I thankfully am not spoiled but feel sorry for those that have been.

Looking forward to an awesome ep.

  37. Azor Ahai is GOKU !,

Do I exaggerate? Very well. I’ve been known to do so.

I thought that this shot of Hardhome looked more like hundreds of thousands rather than tens of thousands or just thousands. Regardless, it looks like more than dozens. D&D called Hardhome a “massacre.” The Massacre of Dozens. That doesn’t sound quite right to me.

  38. Cumsprite,

lol! “When someone says something mean to you, you should always say: So is your face! That’s the first rule of being a kid.” I recommend Dan Gutman’s series for Ella Mentry School. Arlo & Andrea are my favorite OTP.

  39. Ice Baby:

    I envy you.

  40. I am really hoping for something relevant to the plot from Dorne by the end of the season, otherwise what was the point at all? When the high point has been poison activated by boobs the show runners really have to ask themselves the same question, I think.

  41. Ginevra,

Yes. I agree!!! I was quite surprised to see they are on the wrong side of the Wall. Maybe they are using it for a conflict with Ser Aliser who doesn’t want to let them in (?) Otherwise its really odd to have them do that. We will see tonight.

  42. Ginevra:

Believe me by the look of that there weren’t even 30 thousands. Also the total number of them(before hardhome massacre) should have been less than 100 hundred. So yeah, there were a few dozen.

  43. Sue, thank you for this separate chat. I am technically Sullied, but with all the changes this season, was hoping to keep from getting further spoiled. I didn’t want to have to resort to my husband’s method of totally avoiding the internet during show season! Thanks again.

  44. lana,
That’s fine, no worries 🙂 People are getting very emotional about tonight’s show, myself included. My idea of a spoiler might not be the same as other people’s so I just wanted to stress I wasn’t doing it on purpose. The open chat thread has gone into practical meltdown with people posting massive spoilers and others trying to avoid them. I have never seen so many posters on here arguing with such intensity before 🙁 Think some new swearwords are going to need to be invented as they’ve all been used so much they’re ceasing to have much impact. Where’s Shakespeare when we need him? 😉

    Ginevra,
No I think it’s just the 30 secondish trailer, not the episode itself. When people said the last two episodes were going to break the internet I don’t think this is quite what they had in mind, at least not before they have even aired.

Here in the UK it’s on at 2am so I usually get up early and skim watch it before work, then have a proper go in the evening. I might just check out the comments on here after people have seen it first, just in case! If the internet truly has broken I’ll know it was as mind blowing as we’re all hoping O_O I mean, none of us on here watch it just to pass the time ‘cos there’s nothing better on do we? 🙂

  45. Lulu’s Mum,

Thanks! So that means the internet might be safe again for me after tonight’s episode, which is in less than three hours!!!! (I was thinking that the “breaking the internet” quote was always about Episode 10, so I think we’ll be safe until next Sunday.)

If you’re dying to know something particular about tonight’s episode, I could post to you in here. I’m thinking you might be particularly interested in the fate of a certain diminutive someone, at least.

  46. Ginevra,

I am an unsullied , so no spoilers please.
I thought “Breaking the internet” was for episode ten.
Makes me sick… I think I know what might happen :(((((((((((

  47. Luckily I stopped reading the comments in the other open chat when people were simply speculating based on “leaked information” from yesterday. Probably from the same people who were saying that Tormund would die at Hardhome, so its probably not reliable information anyway.

  48. Tormund’s Woman,

IMO, Princess GrumpyPants (a.k.a., Ser Alliser Thorne) will make Jon and the Wildlings wait on the other side of the Wall and imply that he’s not eager or even willing to let them through. There’s a power struggle brewing, and I can feel it. Perhaps Jon will resolve this particular struggle with a “command” that will help Princess GrumpyPants recall what happened when his BFF flaunted a command from Jon.

  49. Deesensfan,

I’m so sorry, Deesensfan. That quote was based on what an actor had said in a video that was part of a news item on this site (not in the comments but posted by the editors of this site), and so I didn’t think that was a spoiler. I have next to no knowledge, other than the books, of what will happen in the next two episodes, and that is not what caused me to know of that particular quote.

  50. Ginevra,

I’ve been hoping that what you’re talking about would happen this season and that they wouldn’t just skip it.

  51. Ginevra,

No no, breaking the internet comment I know was made from someone from the show. But I was confused as to if it was meant for tonight’s episode or for next weeks!

  52. Tormund’s Woman:
    Cumsprite,

lol! “When someone says something mean to you, you should always say: So is your face! That’s the first rule of being a kid.” I recommend Dan Gutman’s series for Ella Mentry School. Arlo & Andrea are my favorite OTP.

Apparently, it was a typo and no offense was intended. Here I am, whiteknighting for my bestie LuLu, and I pooched it. So bad at it.

  53. Ginevra,
I guess you’d have to watch the episode first before deciding how risky dipping your toes into the internet is? Certainly wouldn’t recommend it beforehand! Mind you, if it really does break there won’t be anything to see 😉

EDIT: Princess GrumpyPants, that is awesome. Love it! 🙂

Ser Cum of Spritesville Thank you my knight in shining armour! Sansa didn’t find one but I clearly did 🙂

  54. Lulu’s Mum,

Surely that’s a massive spoiler, unless you’re speculating of course. I myself have no idea of what will happen in tonight’s episode so it’s not that I’m saying it’s what happens.

  55. There shouldn’t be any spoiler tags in this thread. If it requires spoiler tags, DON”T POST IT.

  56. Lulu’s Mum,

Will do! And I’ll try to mark the exact time, or at least the scene before and after, so you’ll know what to skip and be able to watch the rest.

  57. Deesensfan: Sue , why don’t you just delete the whole thread that’s got leaked spoilers?

Because it’s not realistic. Comments along the same lines will just turn up in another post, one where people not wanting spoilers will see them. I’ve been doing this for years, I know how it goes. And I can’t sit here nonstop for the next several hours policing this.

  58. I’m not sure if we’re allowed to talk about the episode’s promo, so if it is considered spoilery please delete this comment.

I think that when Doran says “You can swear your allegiance to me (…)” he is talking to Ellaria rather than Jamie, like the promo implies.

  59. Fuck sorry guys what I said ISN’T a spoiler and I can’t change it. I have no idea what happens, but Ginevra knows I am very fond of Shireen and have been worried about her fate ever since Mel suggested the idea. Sue please delete my post as people have clearly thought it was a spoiler. I am just saying that IF, and I repeat IF, the programme goes down the sacrificing Shireen route that Mel proposed to Stannis several episodes ago, I would like some advance warning of it as I will find it devastating. Really sorry my post was obviously not clear on that. Ginevra was offering to post me a warning in this thread after watching it this evening if anything bad happens to Shireen so I am forewarned. Neither of us is in any way implying that is going to happen and are really hoping it doesn’t! 🙁 🙁 🙁

  60. Lulu’s Mum,

That’s fine, I must have misread your comment. And anyway I very much doubt that Stannis would do something like that. He loves his daughter, and he would be left without an heir if he sacrificed her. I wouldn’t worry about little Shireen 😉

  61. This is such a nice, sane thread!
I am hoping for nice, sane threads to chat on after the episode airs. Sue the Fury, is it possible to have separate posts on this site to talk about separate story arcs in this episode? I believe there will be quite a few story arcs, as hinted at by the episode synopsis, promo, etc. However, if there is only one thread for Sullied and one for Unsullied, those two may get overrun by just one group of fans talking about one storyline ad nauseam.

  62. Thanks for opening this thread up. I read the last one too far…I think I’ve been spoiled, but I really really really hope I’m wrong. At a certain point it turned from a discussion of the existence of the leaks to discussing the leaks themselves (no amount of sly veiling, spoilertagging, or mod-deleting could keep up), and then the normal preshow speculation/hype got co-opted into a postshow rantfest and I had to get out.

Only positive thoughts from now on! Hoping for some good things from Arya, Dany, Jon and maybe even some Dornish or Brienne stuff!

  63. REALLY sorry to anyone I gave a heart attack to. I nearly had one myself when I saw people thought I was posting a spoiler. I truly do not know what happens to Shireen (or anyone else) and obviously didn’t word it clearly.

I will go away now, sorry for the stress I have clearly caused. Promise it was entirely unintentional and once again for anyone who sees anything I posted, it was worst case scenario speculation on my part. I absolutely was and am not basing any of my comments on any spoilers.

Sue again please keep up your awesome moderating skills and delete anything of mine that might confuse/mislead people. Sorry for the hassle I’ve caused you!

    🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

  64. Lulu’s Mum,

No worries!! I thought you know what happens lol!
It sounded like you did haha! Don’t go away!!

Lets all enjoy the show people!!!!!!
Cant wait. Less than two hours to go. I am so nervous.. even more so for next week.

  65. I am a bit confused, wasn’t there since season 2, because of a U.S. Public holiday, normally a period of 2 weeks between episode 8 and 9 or was it between 9 and 10? Why not this season?

  66. René:
I am a bit confused, wasn’t there since season 2, because of a U.S. Public holiday, normally a period of 2 weeks between episode 8 and 9 or was it between 9 and 10? Why not this season?

I think its usually Memorial Day weekend. Not sure why they didn’t this year, but it might have been due to the fact that the show is day and date now, meaning it shows simultaneously in a lot of overseas markets which don’t celebrate MD.

  67. If you weren’t amped up enough, James HIbberd at Entertainment Weekly, who’s apparently legit seen the episode, just tweeted this:

“Tonight’s @GameOfThrones is so epic, I’ll have 3 pages of recap about a single sequence “

  68. Ravyn:

Oh boy! I’m not sure my old heart can handle more crazies after hardhome.

    “James Hibberd ‏@JamesHibberd
I have not seen screeners @SaintsGrrl but both @GameOfThrones episodes should be amazing–director David Nutter at the helm”

  70. I just can’t imagine Jorah dying in the fighting pits. This greyscale thing has to lead somewhere right?

  71. Ozy,

I don’t think he’s seen the whole episode (I gathered this because he takes 3/4 hours to post his recap). But he must see more chunks than other critics. He accurately guessed the effect of Hardhome and the Tyrion-Dany sequence last week, and this was before anyone really knew about the WW appearance (as well as gauging the controversy over E6 before it aired), though that might also be because he was on set when they shot it since EW did that big story on the production earlier in the season.

  72. Ace of Mace,

No, he has not seen it. I tweeted him and he replied, “I have not seen screeners but both @GameOfThrones episodes should be amazing–director David Nutter at the helm.”

What yesterday wasn’t it leaked today?

  74. Sue,suggestion – give us a way to let you know that someone has put up a spoiler leak. Just a thought.

  75. What the fucking fuck? 38 minutes and it’s still not on HBO Go yet? This is really pissing me off. The schedule said it was available 3 minutes before air time. Is there anyone else having this problem? It was 15 minutes late last week, but this is ridiculous.

  76. Ok. So is it safe to read/post in this side? As soon as I read a few comments on the other thread I decided to leave but now I see there is a second speculation thread that looks safer.

I’m pretty excited about the pit. I just hope my beat doesn’t die. I’ve mentioned that I ship him and Dany since season 2 and I still do.

I’m afraid for Missandei too and I’m dying to see the scenes at the wall as well as Sansa and Arya.

  77. Disappointed. HBO Marketing Team you are idiots this year – your 9th episode climax with Khaleesi being surrounded by sons of the harpy was revealed in your own promo material.

  78. I feel completely weak after this episode. JFC it was amazing, horrible things happening nonwithstanding, i felt really sick because of shireen but then that ending….i have no words

  79. Lulu’s Mum,

I am sorry for your loss. The part you won’t want to see is from 34 minutes to 37 minutes in, although we had one minute of commercials before the “Previously On.” Immediately before that part, we see Shireen and Stannis in the tent, and he gives her that destiny quote. I think you’re safe in watching up until when Shireen is outside of the tent.

Outside the tent, Shireen is led with toy-stag in hand by Stannis’s men to the pyre, with no Stannis in sight. Ser Davos was conveniently sent to Castle Black just before this scene, so he’s not in the camp to save her. Melisandre is waiting to tie her to the stake.

“Where’s my father. I want to see my father.”

“It will all be over soon, Princess.”

Shireen screams for her father over and over and over, and we finally see a bedraggled Stannis come out to face her, along with Selyse. Selyse tells Stannis, “It’s what the Lord wants. It’s a good thing; a great thing.” I felt the urge to slap her. After the pyre was lit, Selyse had a change of heart and runs toward Shireen, distraught and crying. The fire burns to the point that Shireen is beyond saving except possibly by some miraculous, magical method, and we cut to Meereen and Daznak’s pit.

  80. Wow!! Wow!! Awesome. Off to watch again. Loved Blood of the Dragon playing over end credits just like 5.02.

Doran be playing a looooong game. And now Ellaria is in on it too.

    😀

The Stannis scenes played almost exactly like Agamemnon, Iphigenia and Clytemnestra.

  81. Hardhome was a bit better action sequence, but Dany’s flight WOW.That was something out of this world.Best scene so far.

  82. Interesting quote about Shireen scene from Benioff in the post comments: “When George told us about this scene…” Welcome to The Winds of Winter.

  83. Is one allowed to put one’s own theories in here or no? About the future I mean, things that haven’t happened in show OR books? Because before anyone can freak out over what they think might have happened to someone in the show, they didn’t actually SHOW us what happened, did they? And until I see the aftermath, I don’t believe what the common belief is. Not at all. And my theory would explain why.

  84. I really enjoyed the extended Dorne scene. Doran is really really good.

Predict we might see some end game from them next week, otherwise it will be a disappointment

  85. Im really intrigued as to where things are heading with Dorne. Jaime’s voice features in the episode preview for next week so we should get some more of an idea then. Doran is such an interesting character.

Crazy finding out that the Shireen stuff is actually a TWOW spoiler too. New material here we go!

Daznak was just incredible. Absolute goosebumps watching it, not just for Drogon but the little character moments like Jorah and Dario giving each other the little respect glance and Dany realising Jorah had saved her with the spear. Brilliant stuff. The last 3 episodes of this season have been fantastic.

  86. As this episode has already aired now I feel the need to say this. The show is now into the territory of books that have not been written and I get a real sense that SOME people are going to denigrate the show so loudly for no other reason than the fact they don’t want the show to continue until they know/ read what happens, I believe it is a selfish and instinctively puritanical mindset. I love the books but this show and its creators have literally done more to ensure the next book flies of the shelves in record numbers than anyone except GRRM any so called book purist should be thankful this show has done this for the wonderful books that are ice and fire. Suck it up and enjoy the ride I know I will. But alas if you must holler bloody murder know that I disagree and encourage you to stop watching

  87. Hahahahaha.

All I have to say is, all you fucking Stannis fans. You deserved that! Shame on you. The North remembers.

  88. Lord of the Waters,

Jorah’s spear moment totally surprised me and was a great way to segue into the Harpy scene. I still don’t get what the point of Dorne is and, again, it was the moment that dragged it down for me. Daznak was exceptionally well executed. Not sure where I would put this in the Ep 9 ranking. I think I liked it better than Watchers On The Wall and Baelor.

  89. Note that Doran is installing someone on small council just as he does in book. Also they included the wine spill during the allegiance speech. End game still lining up from Dorne despite not so good execution of getting there

  90. Did anyone else watch the D&D after-episode talk thing? They basically spoiled the Shireen thing will happen in the books.

I am soooooooooooooooo done with this show and life right now.

  91. Ravyn,

Yeah I think I would agree with that. Better than Watchers and Baelor but behind Blackwater and the Red Wedding.

  92. Loved it . I was a Stannis’ fan , BUT NOT ANYMORE .
And all those cry babies threatening to quit the show ? DO IT . Really getting tired of you ! Don’t like the show ? DON’T FUCKIN WATCH IT . I come here after each episode to see some discussions , but all I see is some stupid hate comment with no actual benefit whatsoever . Why is awoiaf’s community like this ? I mean Hannibal is making drastic changes as well , but everyone has accepted it for what it is , and that’s a brilliant TV show with its own version of the story , but then we have all these people here who start to hate EVERYWHERE over every single thing they don’t like .

  93. Friend of fire,

I remember asking someone who said Stannis is more likable in the books, “how do you make someone who burns people alive for personal gain…likeable?” They had no answer. If anything, it seems a small miracle (and a credit to Stephen Dillaane) that he’s even THIS likable. Or was. No redemption from that.

  94. On the one hand, I’m glad Stannis’ reputation has been crushed in a single episode..

On the other hand.. these asshats just spoiled future book content and that Daznak’s Pit/Drogon ending was super underwhelming.

This has been a rough and wild night for me, friends.

  95. Dany ran for safety leaving her entourage behind… Twice. Including hubby to be. Bitch is a worse wife than she is a queen.

I really liked Doran in this episode.

No Sansa for the first time this season.

About Stannis, I detest him. The possibility of a religious fanatic who burns people alive get the throne is terrible. How is he an improvement over the mad king? And after this, I just hope Davis kills him.

  96. WTF.

Ok this episode had 3 parts:

    1st 1/2: boring, nothing happens

3rd 1/4: WORST THING EVER STANNIS IS WORSE THAN RAMSEY AND ROOSE AND TYWIN TOGETHER HAAAAAATE

4th 1/4: OMG HOLY SHIT SOOOOOOOO AWESOME DROGON DANY N JORAH HIZZY NOT HARPY AHHHHHHH

  97. I am soooo ready for Stannis to bite it next Sunday. Can’t take any more of him in S6. Hope he goes out in 5.10 like Tywin did in 4.10. The coward couldn’t even be right where his daughter was, but let his men lead her to the stake. I know it won’t happen, but a Ramsey flaying would be a pretty good way to end him.

Dorne is getting interesting. Trystane going to KL – what is Doran’s plan? Nymeria looked very pretty this episode.

I am glad Jorah, Missandei, Daario and of course Tyrion, all survived Daznak’s. Tyrion looked like he was in a dream from the moment Drogon showed up.

  98. Even if Littlefinger would loan his jetpack to Mace, I think he might exceed the weight limit :-}

  99. Renly’s Peach:
On the one hand, I’m glad Stannis’ reputation has been crushed in a single episode..

On the other hand.. these asshats just spoiled future book content and that Daznak’s Pit/Drogon ending was super underwhelming.

So its D&D’s fault that GRRM, rather than work on WOW has spent his time watching NFL games, going to conventions, running his theatre and writing side stories with Elio and Linda?

  100. This is who Stannis is and this is who stannis has always been. I cannot believe I was blinded by it all.

That pink letter theory all makes sense now. Ugh! I’m so mad.

    Renly needs to be ressurected!

  101. Quiddity,

Seriously. They should just stop making the show until GRRM finishes both books. I’m sure the actors will all be available in 15 years and look exactly the same. No biggie.

  102. i dont think hizdar died …

there was something fishy with hizdar in this episode ..he came late and said something like make sure things are prepared

i am thinking there is going to be a c oup and when jorah and darrio goes to arrest Hizdar ..he will be under the care of that Harpy whore

for those who saying that Jorah touched Dany …

Dany helped and touched the victims of Palemare ..she didnt got affected by them

  103. Quiddity,

No it’s D&D’s fault that’d they’d outright confirm this was a GRRM idea. It’s classless. I know you’re trying very hard to be a show apologist here, but it’s not a hard concept.

    Used To Be King Stannis,

Glory to Renly Baratheon, the late prince that was promised.
When the sun has set, no candle can replace it.

  104. Whilst I agree that they shouldn’t have had Stannis burn Shireen yet (because according to D&D, GRRM plans to have Shireen killed in the books too), I still enjoyed this episode. I’m glad to see more dragons, but this time have them actually doing what dragons do best. Pretty cool ending I have to say.

And if all the haters of the show hate it SO very, very much, just stop watching. I know you all threaten to, but you never actually do. I always see the same people week after week posting on here and YT and IMDb and all the other forums and sites. It’s fine to not like the show, just don’t keep going on about it all the time, ramming it down peoples throats. It gets annoying very quickly.

  105. Lulu’s Mum,

I’m not sure this will be any consolation, but I wanted to have a little something for Shireen. This is from the perspective of Davos and to the tune of the “Little Birdhouse in Your Soul.”

    I’m your only friend
    I’m not your lonely friend
But I’m your little reading friend
But really I’m not your only friend
    But I am

Tiny fairy getting frog-marched to the Red Queen
    Who watches over you?
Make a little crowned stag in your soul
I know now this is what they intended
Being the only one who would end it
Make a little crowned stag in your soul

  106. i for one think that D&D had no choice but spoil thats happening in the books ….because the hate they will be recieving now is scary and not to mention a way of reducing number of deatyh threats they are going to recieve

  107. dragonbringer:
i for one think that D&D had no choice but spoil thats happening in the books ….because the hate they will be recieving now is scary and not to mention a way of reducing number of deatyh threats they are going to recieve

For years D&D have been saying that GRRM gave them the ending and the key plotpoints. And GRRM is kept in the loop as to what goes on. So why hide the fact ?

  108. flintwielder,

What concept? Do you really not understand what I’m saying?

It’s fine if you do whatever the hell you wanna do with Shireen on screen; we already knew they’re willing to randomly kill off characters they don’t know what to do with (his Barristan).

But — and here’s the but, kiddies:

That is not the same as outright saying “we were told this would happen from GRRM.” Like, when have they ever said anything like that before? It basically confirms this exact scenario is going to happen in the books too and is a spoiler to everyone. It reeks of being a big bitter fuck you to the book fans and GRRM himself.

  109. dragonbringer:
i for one think that D&D had no choice but spoil thats happening in the books ….because the hate they will be recieving now is scary and not to mention a way of reducing number of deatyh threats they are going to recieve

MTE. To be honest I’d be calling for their heads too, if I hadn’t watched behind the epi. So, I’m quite glad they made that reveal for my own sanity sake. Don’t understand why it would be considered classless. If you’re worried about book spoilers don’t watch the behind the episodes…

  110. Queenofthrones: Don’t understand why it would be considered classless. If you’re worried about book spoilers don’t watch the behind the episodes…

Oh my bad, I didn’t realize that was the place where they went to talk about future book plots. I really should have known. Maybe they should put a big disclaimer before all the behind-the-scenes featurettes.
“Warning, the following contains us talking about things GRRM told us were gonna happen in the future books.”

    Entirely my fault; nice save.

  111. That is one of the most disturbing scenes I’ve ever seen. The darkest shade of dark. The acting from everyone in that burning scene. To me this is the darkest thrones has ever been. So heartbreaking when selyse breaks and stannis prooves that he is the true believer of the two. I dont know what to say! I couldn’t look! I dont think i’ve been that emotionally crushed by a film or tv show ever. Daznaks was great too, when Dany and missandai held hands I actually cried. And Drogon just killed me. Meryn Trant was really creepy, I was wondering if they were gonna make him a pedaphile, great choice. When Arya plunges needle through his heart it’s gonna be like Oren Ishii killing Boss Matsamutso! But nothing beats the family drama in the snow! Scene of the episode! Man this season is dark… Now come the whiners!

  112. Renly’s Peach,

I was actually curious if they said why is she sacrificed in Winds but I just watched that clip a few minutes ago and no.

Too bad they didn’t go full spoiler. I mean if you ARE going to do it, at least do it all the way. I hate half measures. It could turn out that Stannis is not even involved in this. Mel might be sacrificing Shireen for someone else. So Stan fans might hate them even more if they are not the same circumstances! Ooops, I can hear a character assassination sound coming…

  113. Renly’s Peach,

Puhlease, you were gonna be upset anyways.

If they don’t mention it after the show then you’re condemning them for character assassination, spewing phrases like, “Stannis would never allow Shireen to be burned!”

    or

What you have now – mad at them for spoiling something from an upcoming book.

So either way you’re upset at Dan and Dave, I guess I don’t see why you’re so upset that you’re not upset about what you wanted to be upset about.

  114. Ser Duncan the Tall,

1: I don’t give two thimblefuls of piss about Stannis and this is totally within his character. He already killed one member of his family.

2: I have every right being mad at them for confirming a spoiler from a future book. This is legitimately something they’ve never done before and it’s not a small spoiler either.

D&D apologists on full throttle tonight.

  115. Ok this cant be a spoiler. Im not a book reader. Complete speculation onmy part. Could Shireen come thru the fire next week due to her greyscale?

And this episode was a letdown on multiple levels. Plot holes galore. Lots of stuff that just made no sense.

  116. Renly’s Peach,

D&D don’t produce promotional material. They answer a question in an interview, and someone in the promotional department decides what goes into the featurette. If you want to be pissed off at that nameless mid-level producer, have at it. Don’t expect it to benefit you much, though.

  117. Renly’s Peach,

Of course you have a right to be mad at them, no one would or should deny that. However my point is book purists (if you’re special and not one of those people then trust me there are many unlike you) would likely be rabid if D&D didn’t back up their game-changing decision. Granted they’re purists so they’ll be upset either way.

P.S. Calling someone an “apologist” weakens your own argument as the facts of an argument should be assessed instead of who is posing the argument, therefore calling someone an apologists amounts to nothing more than petty politicking.

P.P.S. I could have just as easily have mentioned how you have conveniently ignored the fact that GRRM has prolonged the writing of a book, which essentially had its own due date because of the show, almost 5 years. Will you be upset when the show spoils the ending before WoW is released? Or more realistically spoils the outcome of the Battle at Winterfell, a more pivotal plot point than the burning of a minor character

  118. Renly’s Peach,

I don’t think anyone has a right to be pissed off at the show going beyond the books. This is their own version of the story. if it hasn’t happened in the book universe it is not a spoiler, just a retelling of how it happens without a few details. You must have been told you are a special little snow flake your whole life.

  119. El Witcher,

Again, completely missing the point of what I’m saying. At no point did I say I was upset because they did something that hasn’t yet happened in the books. Read twice, write once.

And I don’t need people telling me I’m special, I know I am. Thanx

  120. The show is NOT the books. There will be differences. Even if it is based on the books.

I was HEARTBROKEN for Shireen. What a great actress though. she sold it so well. I was crying so much.

Its funny, because Stannis has been burning innocent people alive since season 2. Yet we all stood by him, most of us at least. SO many Stannis fans.
Now, he burns ANOTHER, but one we care for, and we want his head on a spike.
Such hypocrisy. That’s what it was meant to show anyway.
Its like what Tywin said, killing a few people vs saving entire populations and innocent people (re: Red Wedding).

Anyway, is it just me, or are there others thinking #TeamWhiteWalkers ?
    LOL
What an amazing episode. Cant wait for Oz’ recap!

  121. Ginevra,

Thank you very much for your considerate heads-up post, chuck, it was exactly what I was after. Approximate timing, what comes just before, nicely brief overview of what happens in the bit I don’t want to watch, and when it’s safe to look again 😀

Won’t see it until this evening and will bail when they leave the tent. Very occasionally I see things I wish I could unsee so I’m going to skip straight over it just in case. Might turn out it wasn’t as horrible as it could have been, but that’s probably the best thing I might think about it and hardly a recommendation to watch. I’m seeing phrases (not just on here) like “gut-wrenching” and “feeling physically sick” so I reckon I can safely avoid it without missing anything I’d actually want to see 🙁

And thanks for the lovely song too, awww tiny fairy 🙂 I’ll probably find you in another thread later when I’ve had a chance to go through the 1,000+ comments and actually watch it, but am at work (it’s lunchtime) and apparently they don’t have to pay me if I sit here contemplating tv shows all day. They don’t understaaaaand 😉

  122. Conclusion:

    1. My episode experience was spoiled massively by the leaked summary. I only tuned in halfway, saw Shireen with a wooden stag, and new what would happen afterwards. Ruined my experience.. Thanks Ozy for posting the link, hope you get/are banned. This season has been struck with leaks so badly. Ep 1-4, and apparently, the person who spoiled this episode for me had done the same for 6-8 as well… That horrid.

    2. If you don’t want public outrage, then you don’t touch little girls. The majority of the viewership have made it abundantly clear: Girls are not to be harmed and if so, then the writers are mysogynistic pigs that do everything for shockfactor. So lets give every girl (or woman for that matter) a piece of plotarmor so the masses can sit easy in their couches while they will (apparently based on loose claims) not continue to watch this show. Such hypocricy.. Young innocent boys have been murdered on this show: Lommy Greenhands, Mycah the Butchersboy while Gendry the Bastard has been sexually abused. These were innocent boys, but the outcry was nowhere near as loud. Where’s the equality? Don’t get me wrong, I felt dem feelings when Shireen burned. It just annoys the heck out of me that so-called “feminists” start making loud noises everytime harm gets done to a girl, but keep mum when the same happens to boys, while the movement is supposed to be about gender equality.

    3. I was beyond moved when Stannis burned Shireen. In part because I couldn’t actually believe it was happening, in part because it is perhaps the most stupid move ever when you consider that Stannis is now the sole true Baratheon living, with a wife that has a history of miscarriages. Gendry is still rowing, he’s the official heir now if I’m not mistaken.

But on the other hand, it is completely in character for Stannis. The Mannis has the character of a utalitarian. He has feelings, but he values what needs to be done over emotion. The man made soup out of books ffs. As Donal Noye puts it, the man’s iron. He’s hard, strong, brittle. He’ll break before he bends.

The only real thing that annoys me (as I’ve accepted Stannis for who he is and what he represents, cruel it may be) is that out of context of the books, with Brienne that close, it just looks too much that he’ll fail and this burning has been for nought, making Stannis cruel and tragic at the same time, and this would make Mel realize that she’s backing the wrong King. As one said, it’s a Greek tragedy. We will see Stannis break. Mel needs to go to King Crow, asap.

  123. Renly’s Peach,

You are complaining about future plot lines being spoiled, how is that not complaining about what hasn’t happened in the fooks? I’m not putting words in your mouth princess. I have no reason to argue with you anymore, clearly you can’t reason with a mental gymnast who has the ego of a demigod.
