The dust has settled after last night’s glamorous red carpet premiere at the Tower of London, and now it’s time for Game of Thrones to make its debut in the U.S.

HBO has announced that the red carpet premiere for season 5 is scheduled for next Monday, March 23rd, at 6:00 PST/9:00 EST. The event will take place at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco.

Cast members expected to attend include Alfie Allen, Ian Beattie, Dean-Charles Chapman, Gwendoline Christie, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Liam Cunningham, Peter Dinklage, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jerome Flynn, Aidan Gillen, Conleth Hill, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Michiel Huisman, Michael McElhatton, Hannah Murray, Iwan Rheon, Sophie Turner, Carice van Houten, Maisie Williams, and possibly more.

The network is also promising a “never-before-seen behind-the-scenes video featuring footage from the new season” that will be aired following the red carpet coverage, at 7PM.

The special affair will be streamed live, as last year’s event was, on Facebook.

HBO is offering the opportunity for fans to participate in the event via social networks. According to the official press release:

Fans will be able to participate in the real-time social media experience by submitting questions to the cast via Facebook and Instagram, which will be answered by cast members from the red carpet from 6pm-7pm PST (9:00pm–10:00pm EST).  The live event, hosted by media personality Veronica Belmont and Mara Raphael from “The Daily Share” on HLN, will be streamed via the Facebook page and fans can follow along with #GoTPremiereSF.

One hundred super fans from the Bay Area will be chosen to participate in the red carpet “Fanzone” which provides perfect viewing access to cast members and other celebrities as they arrive. They will also attend the screening and receive a VIP gift bag featuring a USB loaded with the album “Catch the Throne: The Mix Tape Volume 2.”

Additionally, screens along the carpet will feature a Game of Thrones Facebook “Year in Review” showcasing the most resonant content from the show’s Facebook page from 2014 to the present along with best in class Game of Thrones Instagram and Facebook postings from fans. A few lucky fans who shared photos of themselves with their Game of Thrones Funko on Instagram will also be featured during the livestream.

Immediately following the red carpet coverage at 7pm PST (10:00pm EST), Facebook viewers will be treated to a never-before-seen behind-the-scenes video featuring footage from the new season.

Sue the Fury: I recall last year’s Facebook Live event being enjoyable, albeit a little frenzied. I’m glad they’re livestreaming again and keeping up the fan interaction. But what I’m really interested in is this “never-before-seen behind-the-scenes video.”

  1. Off topic, but are there any videos of Michael McElhatton’s interview? I desperately need to hear his voice.

  2. New York city is the shining center of human civilization!

    SHINING CENTER OF HUMAN CIVILIZATION!

  3. All you people chomping at the bit, there’s an easy solution: take your Waitmate until April 12th.

  4. Damn. Wonder if there was a way of getting tickets to this. The War Memorial holds a a lot of people.

  5. Anyone know how I can enter to be one of the 100 selected? I called the War Memorial and they didn’t seem to know about this and they told me it was invite only for them.

  6. Bard,

Every New Yorker believes everything should come to them, that they should never have to leave for anything. *yawn*

(How’s that for a sweeping generality?)

  7. On reddit, a member of the press who was at the screening last night claims that a few prominent UK journalists have received episode 1-4 screeners. If true, hopefully we hear more soon.

If true, maybe they’ll upload the stuff to sharing-is-caring sites.

  9. Uknow0,

    That has never, ever happened.

But we will get advanced season previews based on the first few episodes, as we have for at least the last two consecutive years.

  10. Luka Nieto,

The screener DVDs are probably watermarked or something.

Yeah, no one’s ever leaked the whole DVDs but people do tend to give out info about the eps. if they can get away with it, like Gran de Lys on AFOIAF last year.

I wonder if Gran De Lys will get a screener dvd this season, given what happened last year.

  12. Greenjones: Birgitte Hjort Sørensen confirms her part is that of a “Wildling chieftaness”.

More and more strong female characters and many in power, on this show as the seasons progress. That already seems to be a defining theme of this show.

  13. >>One hundred super fans from the Bay Area will be chosen to participate<<
Who are these people and how do I replace one of them? This would be EASILY accessible for me…

  14. I had a feeling it would not be a friendly time for European-based fans.. so I was hoping for NY too. Midnight I can do, 3-4 am is rough on a “school night” so I’ll be looking forward to the recap!

  15. San Fran!!! I’ll be there, my work is just around the corner on Powell street. No Purist allowed tho, sorry. 🙁

  16. I’m almost positive I read today Kit Harington will be there too, but I don’t see him on the list you posted, so maybe not. But, seriously, I’m almost positive I read that.

  17. How do they pick these super fans?? I live in the Bay Area, and I would give a kidney to be there!
