Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 2 “The House of Black and White” Video Recap Roundup

CerseiHobAW

Welcome fellow Watchers for another dose of recaps of the video variety for episode 2! There’s a hum of excitement through the reviews as we see Arya (finally!), Dorne, and meet some familiar faces in Braavos.

Leading off this week we have Ozzy-Man and his humorous take on the show.

It’s J-Rock o’clock up in Gay of Thrones as Jonathan discusses the show with Veep’s Jonah Ryan, who unfortunately isn’t even his mother’s favorite Jonah.

Happycool’s Sandrine and Kenny have plenty to say as usual about Episode 2 with their weekly GoT tshirts.

Cenkis Khan and the What the Flick?! crew provide some Young Turk commentary.

Thanks very much to Nate for working on this post. Also thanks to suggestions from last week! I will be incorporating them in weeks to come.

  1. Gotta agree with Oz: HBO and its idiot “partners” do deserve a big old BOO! for making it difficult or impossible for overseas fans to watch the show, and then having the audacity to send them threatening letters if they tried to circumvent the geoblocks and try to pay HBO for the content they were watching.

  2. Excellent round-up, as always!

One thing to note, however: the Grantland video with Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan that’s currently linked in the post is actually their discussion of Episode 1. I know the video says Episode 2, but that’s referring to Episode 2 of their Watch the Thrones podcast (Episode 1 was their preseason preview).

Their discussion of Episode 2 is featured in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWPBzCNJzlQ&index=1&list=PLklUd1gGvFl6kr1E3fPh66cYe1nITWmth

Game of Thrones discussion begins at 14:51 and ends around 33:00.

The next installment of their Watch the Thrones podcast, also covering The House of Black and White, should post sometime today.

  3. I despise the “What the Flick” video reviews, not only because the moderator is always wrong about everything, but also because that Cenkis guys’ disdain of Sansa is jarring. Also, if after 5 seasons, they STILL can’t remember character’s names, they shouldn’t be reviewing the show.

  4. I love What the Flick. Part of the fun is Ben getting corrected by Jon (I think that’s his name, the blonde book reader) about the characters.

More recaps, some of which were interesting to me, some old, some I haven’t seen:

This group is always incredibly insightful and entertaining. But their recaps are ONLY for book readers, they go massively in depth into all five books and explore different theories and themes.

Its insanely long, but Im always grabbed by them =D

  6. RosanaZugey,

I think people watch WTF for the TYT personalities. Cenk had some distasteful things to say about Cersei last season but I think people like his general POV.

    Felt Pelt,

Jon Iadarola is the nerdiest of the nerds.

  7. Axe….good to put a face to the name. And don’t be bullied, I love your Sam T-Shirt.

I like all these…Ozeyman is hilarious. I still have some to watch, couldn’t fit them all in before folk started to show up at work.

  8. I love the What The Flick reviews. I usually watch them first thing before any other reviews. Ben and Cenk are hilarious; the other two have read the books and generally are pretty insightful.

  9. HelloThere,

Do they have a podcast version? I get too restlest watching video recaps I’d rather just have the audio so I can listen to it while doing other things.

  10. I’d like if the videos were separated between Sullieds and Unsullieds like the written recaps round ups… cause I for one only go for the Unsullieds ones, they interest me way more ! 😉

  11. Here’s NotaName Madperson. He’s Unsullied. He usually does straight-up reviews of each episode, but this week, he seems to have switched to more of a reaction/review format, reacting to, and talking about each scene one at a time:

Also, ThinkHero, who you guys posted last week, but not this week:

  12. Big Mac,

Thanks for Notaname Madperson. It is a good one. He has a great face for reactions, smiling and surprised softly but frequently.

  13. Bex,

If by nerd you mean GoT knowledgeable, I beg to differ. Anyone who has to look up Daario, a major character, is not that knowledgeable a fan.

  14. goodkinghenry,

Jon is excited about the show, books, being invited, etc. You don’t have to be a trivia master to be a nerd or sit around and talk about the show.

One of the reasons I like What the Flick is that they don’t purport to be experts or elitists.

  15. I feel that we lost so many good recaps like comicbookgirl, the guys that were complete unsully and now I am looking for others, I’m really enjoying “watch the thrones” and WTF but I agree that Cent’s hate for Sansa is really annoying. I used to enjoyed thinkhero but not so much now. So which others are your favorites??

  16. Bex,

Oh cmon knowing Daarios name makes one a trivia master? Maybe knowing the name of the Braavosi ship captain makes one a trivia master, but Daario is probably in the top ten main characters.

  17. Chad Brick:
Gotta agree with Oz: HBO and its idiot “partners” do deserve a big old BOO! for making it difficult or impossible for overseas fans to watch the show, and then having the audacity to send them threatening letters if they tried to circumvent the geoblocks and try to pay HBO for the content they were watching.

Thank you Chad. HBO is so angry with the viewers, angry enough to write letters and notices, but they don’t realize that it is their fault. If they didn’t want the episodes to get out, then they shouldn’t have put them out there to begin with. What did they think would happen? It was someone on their end who made the mess, not the viewers. I’m not saying that piracy is right, but I think HBO should have been more realistic. I think that HBO Now, the leaked episodes, and the aggressive fighting against it, is all a propaganda scheme to keep people talking about the show. The more people talking means the more people watching.

  18. Really enjoying the intelligent discussion on Grantland. Hadn’t watched those up till now… Thanks! (Also love What the Flick)
