  1. Maybe getting an early reply is a good thing…..now to get to Twitter and retweet. Can’t wait, would love this. Thanks for the opportunity WotW.

  2. it’s the most obvious answer to give – but it is so for a reason
the Hardhome massacre was my favorite moment of Season 5

  3. Favorite moment had to be when Jon killed the white walker with Longclaw. My sister and I got really excited when that happened haha.

  4. My favorite part of season 5 was when Drogon came to rescue his mother from the sons of harpy!! Also the worst part is when my favorite character John Snow was betrayed by his brothers!! Can’t wait for season 6!!!

  5. My Favorite moment is probably when Jon beheads lords Janos. I was always a big ned stark fan and it was nice to see his avenged.

  6. I can’t lie: my favorite moment of the season was the entire Daznak’s pit scene. From the beginning of the games, to the attack of the Sons of the Harpy, to Daenerys climbing upon Drogon and flying away. It was breathtaking, as it was in the books.

  7. My favorite part ofseason5 was when Drogon rescued his mother from the sons of harpy!! Also my worst part was when Jon was betrayed by his brothers!!! Can’t wait to see what season 6 brings us! It should be good!

  8. For me, it was the entire Hardhome sequence, start to finish. Absolutely enthralling to watch.

  9. My favorite moment was probably when Longclaw held against the White Walker blade, and Jon and the WW exchanged looks of surprise. I jumped up and whooped. (It was also a rare moment of the show revealing a secret that the books had yet to explain.)

I had been looking forward to Daenerys and Drogon in the fighting pit for such a long time that I was disappointed with its actual execution. That said, there is no other scene that I have ever watched more in the time since it aired.

Also: “Egg, I dreamed that I was old.” Tears every time. I love book and show Aemon Targaryen.

  10. Its awfully hard to have anything other than Jon killing the white walker in Hardome as my favorite moment. That whole episode is awesome.

  11. I actually have two favorite moments that tie each other:

    1) Jon’s speech to the wildlings in the tent with Tormund at Hardhome. Then when he stopped the WW’s blade with Longclaw.

    2) When Drogon landed in the pit and strafe fired that bunch of Harpies. I watched it alone and yelled out “YEAH!” when that happened.

  12. The end of the world working out for one Samwell Tarly! Bout time he became a real man!

  13. Episode 9: Dany reunited with Drogon, climbing onto him and ordering him to fly them the hell out of there. Gave me the goosebumps- I rewatched that scene so many times. Always makes me overcome with many emotions. The music is superb.

  14. As a book reader who is also able to appreciate the show as its own entity, I will say that Arya’s scene with Trant in the season finale was so incredibly satisfying to watch. It gave me goosebumps, and I cannot wait to watch it again!

  15. I like the moment when the White Walker realise that Longclow didn’t break. That face!

I also like the conversations between Deanerys and Tyrion.

But my favourite is when Deanerys and Barristan talk about Rheagar.

  16. Jon Snow following Ned’s famous line, “The man who passes the sentence, should swing the sword.” Happens as he sentences Lord Janos to die after refusing his commands.

  17. Favorite moment – there ate so many. Okay, Theon tossing Ramsey’s girl, can’t recall her name, over the railing and she falls to her death.

  18. My favorite moment was when Jon beheaded Janos Slynt and Stannis gave him a nod of approval.

  19. Hardhome was by far one of the most epic battles in the history of TV and not only of GoT it was spectacular.

  20. My favorite moment of Game of Thrones Season Five (episode 9) was definitely when Drogon arrives to Daznak’s Pit in order to rescue her mother!

  21. Favourite moment – Jon, having told Ollie to fetch his sword, takes a swig and slams his cup down before going out with the others. Great turn to authority, and Kit did it wonderfully.

  22. Tyrion and his wit – When Daenerys interviews him to find out if he is right for her as her advisor. Tyrion all together is one of the best characters.

  23. Favorite: When the camera goes wide at Hardhome to show the wights risen up for the Night’s King. Really seems to show how outmatched everybody is and nobody realizes it but Jon and the few true to him.

  24. Comment favorite moment huh ?
Jon snow becoming lord commander was a really good moment, also dany beheading masador was a very chiling scene, Hardhome is a no brainer, everyone loved hardhome, The dance of the dragons was a really good episode. I would have to say every single moment in Mother’s Mercy if that counts as an answer. XD

  25. So many moments! When Tyrion meets Dany for the first time, it was amazing to listen to them talk. Also, that moment when John almost got killed by the White Walker… I was on the edge of my seat! Then, when they burned Shireen… I died.
But the moment that was above them all for me is when Drogon came to save Dany… I get goosebumps just writing about it!

  26. My favorite part of season 5…
    …saved by the golden hand!

Really hoping that’s not a story detail from tWOW that got spoiled. Maybe he’ll gold-slap a Frey in season 6!

  27. Aemon’s Kill the boy! and Egg! I dreamed I was old.

Well-adapted. Dying of old-age…what an odd, unique moment in ASoI&F! But oh what he could have (should have) conveyed about BR and his ambitions! 😉

  28. My favorite moment in season 5 was Ramsay and Sansa’s honeymoon. They make such a cute couple.

  29. My favorite moment was at the battle of Hardhome, seeing Jon wield Longclaw against the forces of ice.

Brilliant imagery throughout that battle but Jon and Longclaw slicing through a white walker was just epic.

  30. When Drogon came to rescue Dany <3 literally the best scene. Or when Jorah is bringing tyrion to Dany and Drogon flies over.

  31. Jorah and Tyrion’s trip through Valyria… stunning to look at, then there’s the beautiful poem, two interesting characters… and of course a dragon sighting. Just brilliant. A quiet reflective moment, but the one that stays in my mind.

  32. My favorite moment is when Jon Snow is fighting the white walker with Longclaw. I love the shock on both of their faces when Longclaw doesn’t shatter. Jon Snow parries the white walker’s attack, then boom! 🙂

  33. The “Come at me, Snow” moment by the Night King was pretty freaking great after Hardhome. That, and Wun Wun wreaking wights! (Huzzah for alliterations!)

  34. Although not as good as the blu-ray, it’d be really nice to win the dvd! My favorite moment of season is hands down the massacre at Hardhome. It was just brilliant. All of it. The season had some other great ones such as he beheading of Janos Slynt, Arya crossing Meryn Trant off her list, Cersei’s Walk of Shame, Daznak’s Pit, the passing of Meistre Aemon… the list goes on and on

  35. The best part of the season was the end of episode 1 – so chilling, so intense, Mance’s best scene, and a great moment for Jon

  36. Brian,

That’s a very unique favorite scene, don’t hear fans saying that often 🙂
I loved the wedding most of all, that haunting soundtrack and the scenery, brilliantly done. Season 5 was filled with such great moments, really hard to pick a favorite.

  37. It’s hard to tell, there were many great moments and scenes in S5, the one I choose for this entry is the talk of Podrick and Brienne about their past!

  38. Matthew The Dragon Knight:
    Brian,

That’s a very unique favorite scene, don’t hear fans saying that often
I loved the wedding most of all, that haunting soundtrack and the scenery, brilliantly done. Season 5 was filled with such great moments, really hard to pick a favorite.

Any scene that on this show that causes the hypersensitive “fans” of the show to take to their twitter accounts to voice their disgust and dismay is a favorite scene of mine.

  39. My favorite scene would be Arya throwing away Needle. It was exactly how I pictured it in the books.

  40. Mine would be when Tyrion announce that he is the Gift. Wasn’t really a surprise to us but it was still great!

  41. Definitely, hands down, one of the best scenes was Ninja Arya laying the smackdown on Meryn Trant. That had to be the most satisfying few moments of television I’ve seen in a long time, right up there with The Red Wedding. The entire season was full of so many great moments, it’s hard to pick just one.

  42. How could anyone’s favorite part of season 5 be anything other than Tyrion’s exchange with the pirates? I will abstain from quoting directly seeing as I’m at work…but one of my favorite exchanges.

  43. My favourite moment is Bran skinchanging with the weirwood, where he sees his destination. Now gimme the box-set.

  44. There were a number of great moments this past season that forced a physical reaction out of me…most of which involved crying. But my favorite moments that didn’t make me cry are:
    1. Sansa owning Myranda & reclaiming Winterfell in Ep 6 with ” I’m Sansa Stark of Winterfell. This is my home, & you can’t frighten me” *fist pumps all around*
    2. All of Hardhome. *goosebumps*

  45. Just one fave? There’s a lot!
It would have to be when Jon sliced through that White Walker at Hardhome. As a book reader, that was an excellent surprise!

  46. Favorite moment was the intro to the final episode, where HBO trolled us all hard with the “previously on … Benjen Stark!” As a book reader, it was a great way to throw me off and keep me guessing, but when Ollie shows up at the end and I knew what was coming, I just thought “damn HBO, you sons-of-harpies.” It’s also nice to know that the show is fully aware of some of the more prevalent/crazy/hopeful theories.

  47. My favorite moment was ‘When the White Walker attacked Jon at Hardhome and in a desperate attempt Jon lifts the Longclaw and it didn’t shatter.’

  48. Favorite moment was the look on stannis’s face in episode 10 when he realized his men deserted him, his wife committed suicide, the red witch is gone and he killed his daughter for nothing. So ironic and justice at last!!!

  49. It was a great season, but I think the moments where Drogon was in line of sight of Tyrion were my favorite. Particularly the first time he sees him, in Valyria. His humbled and awed face is wonderfully portrayed, and is the only scene from the show that I wish could have been in the books. Peter Dinklage nailed the face of a man seeing the legendary dragons and understanding the might of the Targaryen dynasty.

  50. Favorite moment – suprised this one hasn’t been mentioned yet….. Tyrion’s entrance at the minor league fighting pit gave me chills and was a very pleasant surprise.

This is my first post on this site after a year of lurking so let me also say thank you to all the contributers who help an impatient GOT fiend get his fix. You guys/girls are great and I love the snappy replies from Sue to some of the more….Joffreyesque(coming to an Urban Dictionary near you) whiny, spoiled posters in here that expect y’all to be machines and don’t appreciate the work that must go into all this content that you put out there to satisfy us.

    THANK YOU,

    Varys’ Lost Manhood

  51. Easily ‘hardhome’ when Jon Snow shouts “nights watch with me!” And battles back through swording up the walkers with his bro’s! ? Awesome! X

  52. Spending the entire season waiting for “For the Watch” and watching my wife to see if she’d pick up what was coming. She did not

  53. The best moment was Stannis getting what he deserved. I’m so glad it was Brienne that got to do the bonors! I can’t wait to see where all that leads to!

  54. Hahaha, didn’t read the instructions. My favorite episode of season 5 was Mother`s Mercy. Cersei’s walk of atonement was incredible, Lena did an amazing job…I could`t imaging filming that scene for any amount of money, and she did it impeccably. I also loved how Theon finally came around and helped Sansa – as well, killed that Myranda psycho b***h!!!! Arya gets her revenge on Meryn Trant, that was an amazing scene! It was an eventful episode that closed out the season well!!!! What could not be liked about that episode?? (*cough cough*, thinking of you Jon Snow). I would love to watch (and re-watch) this episode (and the rest of the season) as part of this lovely DVD set!!!!

  55. Favorite moment of season 5 has to go to Daenerys finally riding Drogon. After being told the histories of Targaryens successfully riding and controlling their dragons, it was only a matter of time and it was WELL WORTH the wait!!

  56. Hardhome takes the win for me. Chills when Jon, his soldiers, and the Wildlings row silently away from the massive White Walker army.

  57. Cersei’s flashback as the premiere opener. Really appreciate the show finally utilizing flashbacks and introducing more prophecies. Thanks.

  58. My favorite moment in season 5 is Jons death. When I seen Olly set Jon up and then stab him, I couldn’t believe he was once a character I really liked. Big twist that I kinda seen coming throughout season 5. Now Im hoping Tormund will chop Ollys head off in season 6.

  59. Darrlynn: Peter Dinklage nailed the face of a man seeing the legendary dragons and understanding the might of the Targaryen dynasty.

That is one of my most memorable scenes from Season 5 as well. Something so epic and evocative of a lost, glorious era as Tyrion’s boat sails by the magnificent ruins, and Drogon just glides in the sky to his own inner music! Magnificent scene.

  60. Oye its hard to pick one – torn between Hardhome, Tyrion entering the fighting pit as the “gift” and “fewer”!

  61. My favorite moment was the very opening scene, Cersei’s flashback. This kicked off the possibilities of introducing and portraying flashbacks on screen of events from the past that effect the narrative of the future. Makes Season 6 that much more exciting.

  62. The scene that keeps catching my eye and traps me into repeat viewings is when Tyrion is before K’haleesi in her throne room, and he delivers his pitch as the greatest Lannister killer in the seven kingdoms. I know it’s not high action, but his speech is mesmerizing.
My admiration of this scene is closely followed also by Tyrion’s & Jorah’s sailing through Old Valaria, the Battle of Hardhome, and the death of Meryn Trant.

  63. My favorite moment of Season 5 had to be the whole Hardhome episode. One of the best episode ever, and when Jon Snow killed a Whitewalker with his Valarian Steel sword was an epic scene.

  64. Ooh, gotta be Jon vs. WW at Hardhome. But also Theon snapping out of his Reek-ness and chucking Myranda over the railing. 😀

  65. Christina:
Hardhome takes the win for me. Chills when Jon, his soldiers, and the Wildlings row silently away from the massive White Walker army.

The silence was what struck me the most. So much conveyed in those fleeting moments of eerie (and even serene) silence. Such a great episode!

  66. My favorite moment was when Jon went face to face with the White Walker in that epic duel

  67. It was super satisfying to finally see Jon face off against a White Walker. Longclaw FTW!

  68. Stannis’s last line “Go On, Do Your Duty” was the best moment, and the perfect way for him to go!

  69. Favorite moment – Tyrion seeing Drogon flying over in Old Valyria.

But that’s probably tied with “I am the gift”

  70. I loved Tyrion and Dany’s sit down, sizing each other up, and Tyrion’s “terrible children of “terrible fathers” line.

  71. My favorite part of season 5 was the hardhome episode. The final scene where Jon and the Night’s King have a standoff as Jon’s boat floats slowly off shore in complete silence. That gave me some serious chills

  72. My favorite moment is the whole Hardhome thriller. I love the introduction (and good bye) of Karsi!

  73. My favorite moment was Septa Unella repeatedly slapping Cersei across the face with that wooden spoon 😀

  74. Hardhome episode was THE best bit of television I think I’ve ever seen. Jon fighting with the White Walker, start to finish, was definitely my favorite scene.

  75. Hardhome episode. When Jon and the Nights King just stare at each other, each knowing Winter is Coming.

  76. I guess it has to be one of the moments that caught by surprise. And there were many. Hardhome was epic, but Shireen burning was straight out from the WTF-playbook. The madness-look on Stannis. And of course, “what could be worse than men deserting?”

  77. Wow, tough decision. I think the only answer I can give to truly do justice to Season 5’s innumerable moments of excellence would have to be the opening credits which kicked the whole thing off. I was covered in goosebumps and teary eyed when I heard the lead in theme song as it promised to take us all on its promised, fantastic journey.
Any TRUE Game of Thrones fan knows there’s no such thing as the best scene or a singular, most favorite moment. It’s like asking what’s your favorite source of oxygen or wetness of water. That was my favorite.

  78. I am a Sansa fan, but my favourite scene from Season 5 was definitely Jorah and Tyrion drifting through Valyria, reciting poetry.

To the old gods and the new, please let me win this one!

  79. Tyrion (with Jorah) staring at a flying Drogon over head for the first time. Tyrion’s facial expression was draw-droppingly realistic and funny too.

  80. Other than the moment when the white walker and Jon realized that Valyrian steel can withstand the Others, my favorite moment of Season 5 was watching Jon’s reaction when he realized that Sam was about to ruin his life forever by nominating him as Lord Commander. He had that “No. Wait. Sam! What the fck are you doing to me? I thought we were friends!”

  81. I bought the first season but quickly came to the conclusion that I need to wait till the show is all done and then buy the mega awesome series box set!

  82. Oh, I think I’ll have to go with a very small quiet moment in Hardhome. Complete foreshadowing, IMO.
Samwell tells Ollie that Jon’s having to make a hard choice, but that sometimes you have to make a choice that seems wrong to others, but you know it’s the right choice in the end. Ollie asks if he believes that and Sam says with all his heart. Then Ollie stares for a long moment before turning and walking away.
Sam calls out: “Try not to worry, Ollie. I’ve been worrying about Jon for years. HE ALWAYS COMES BACK.”

  83. Mine was the moment the Night’s king raised all those wights in Hardhome. Winter is definitely coming!

  84. My favorite moment was Jon fighting the whitr walkers during the Battle of Hardome. Basically that entire episode!

  85. My favorite scene was by far the battle of Hardhome, when the White Walker walked between the flames to attack Jon Snow. Then the battle between them that pursued.

  86. Among all of the epic moments from Season 5, my favorite one was when Drogon came to the rescue of his mother in Daznak’s pit. I knew it was coming, but the show really delivered on that scene!

  87. Danny,

those were both great but that moment when Jon commands everyone to take Slynt out to the block was great too. The Ned Stark virtue with the man who passes the sentence swings the sword and Stannis’ acknowledgement was just awesome.

  88. I know it’s not liked by many but Ser Barristan’s final stand just stands out to me from episode 4. Valar Morghulis Barristan Selmy

  89. My favorite moment from season 5 is when Jon says Ollie get my sword…. What a great line… *sarcasm* Definitely Hardhome.

  90. I’m torn on my favorite moment. Its either when Dany jumped on Drogon and flew away or the Battle at Hardhome (the whole thing).

  91. Thanks for this giveaway. My favorite moment of the season was the (extended closing scene in “Hardhome.” It was not necessarily a big moment in the overall plot besides Jon learning that Valerian steel can kill White Walkers (we already knew the White Walkers were a threat) but it was a really fun surprise. You sort of expected that they were going to cut away to a different plot but then they stay at Hardhome and it gets crazy. It was a fun surprise that no one saw coming since it was off book.

  92. Favorite moment? That’s easy. Its not the run in with the white walkers, and it certainly isn’t anything in Dorne. For me, its when Maester Aemon tell’s Jon in Epi 5 “Kill the boy, Jon Snow. Winter is almost upon us. Kill the boy, and let the man be born”. Talk about foreshadowing! To me at least, he practically spelled out Jon’s fate not only at the hands of his nights watch brothers, but his return to the world of the living and laying claim to the power that resided inside of him.

  93. My favorite moment in season 5 has to be when Tyrion gets his first glimpse at Drogon flying over the ruins of ancient Valyria. The look on his face when he realizes that dragons have returned is brilliant. Hopefully I can relive that moment over and over again when I win the dvd! *fingers crossed

  94. I really liked the entire season, but my favorite moment was when Tyrion and Jorah were floating through the ruins of Valyria and Tyrion sees Drogon.

  95. My favorite moment was actually a string of perhaps hundreds of absolutely breathtaking moments – collectively known as Hardhome.

  96. Favorite moment for me was when Jamie and Myrcella finally have a moment of father daughter bonding right before she is taken from him. Such a moving scene. The shireen “father please!” is up there as well.

  97. Brian: Any scene that on this show that causes the hypersensitive “fans” of the show to take to their twitter accounts to voice their disgust and dismay is a favorite scene of mine.

    Brian Cogman? 😉

  98. Favorite scene would be when Jorah and Tyrion are sailing through the ruins of Valyria and at the end Jorah revealing he’s become infected with Greyscale…such a powerful ending to a great episode, especially after having to wait a whole month for a new one 😉

  99. “Hardhome” was visually incredible but one brief moment from it is my favorite – Tormund, Jon, Edd and Wun Wun running towards the water. It’s only 2-3 seconds long but the moment is pure gold. For the most highly-charged scene ever captured on this show, the intensity of the 4 running for their fucking lives was magic.

Arya trying to lie to Jaquen/hiding needle are two of my other favorites. Even when her story-line is slow, her arc continues to evolve. I can’t wait to see the girl who comes out the other side.

  100. My favorite moment of Season 5 has to be when Jon Snow kills the Wight Walker with Longclaw during the Hardhome Massacre. I shouted to my *no longer doubting the power of Valyrian Steel* friend, “I F*CK*NG TOLD YOU JOHN!” (Sorry John)

  101. My first favorite moment is unoriginal – Hardhome. When the Night King raises his arms, the dead rise, and the accompanying eerie silence – chills! My second favorite moment is when Sansa and Theon hold hands and exchange a look before they leap. I find something about that moment incredibly touching.

  102. Favorite Season 5 moment was Arya killing Meryn Trant at the whorehouse- we finally got to see her cross a name off of her list!

  103. I would have to say that my favorite moment would be when Jorah and Tyrion were reciting the poetry about valyria before the stonemen attacked, and after seeing the dragon. It was such an exceptional moment in a season with a lot that would easily be favorite moments!

  104. My favorite moment of Season 5 was when the wildlings were trapped outside of the gates and suddenly they were silent, I got chills!

  105. It was a very small moment, but when Sansa and Littlefinger were in the crypt at Winterfell in front of Lyanna’s statue and they finally hinted at

    R+L=J/

, I shouted out loud. Hated so much their decision to send Sansa there, but this was a redeeming moment.

  106. There were loads of great moments, but to go for one that wasn’t tinged with massacres / horrible deaths I’d have to say Sansa’s talk with Theon, when he told her Bran and Rickon were alive. One of the few happy(ish) moments of a fantastic season.

  107. My favorite moment was Drogon saving Dany in the fighting pit. The episode had the most tragic moment of the season with the sacrifice of Shireen. When watching the next scene I felt the same awe as Tyrion. I hope he releases Viserion and Rheaegal! Thanks WOTW for the chance to win!

  108. That’s so easy….HARDHOME! I can watch Jon fighting and killing that whitewalker all day.

  109. My favorite moment of season 5 was when Stannis draws his sword and starts walking toward the charging cavalry at the Battle of Winterfell.

  110. Favorite moment is when Cersei finally breaks down and starts crying at the end of her walk of shame. Followed by the look on her face when Ser Robert Strong picks her up and Qyburn says “He has sworn to not speak until all His Grace’s enemies are dead…”

  111. My favorite moment was when the White Walker and Jon were both surprised that Longclaw did not shatter. It was a great moment.

  112. Favorite moment – there were so many!! But a small one that always stands out to me…. When Jamie sees Tarth, just the look on his face. I know, i know, probably not a happy ending 😉

  113. When Daenerys was saved by Drogon in season five episode nine I was hosting a small viewing event at my house, after the scene I looked up and multiple people had tears in their eyes, I’d spilled my drink and popcorn was flung everywhere about the house. What an incredible moment. This scene was the most moving of the season and showed just how important the dragons and their queen are to the song of Ice and Fire.

  114. My favorite moment was when Littlefinger played Roose Bolton and Cersei against one another to get Wardenship (is that a word?) of the North.

  115. There are so many fantastic moments! But my favorite has to be when Drogon shows up at the pit!

  116. My favorite moment of season 5 was when Jon Snow killed the White Walker with Longclaw. Confirming that Valyrian steel can kill white walkers.

  117. Run Wun Wun RUN… when a giant runs, run faster…..

Blue Ray is for watching, DVD is for sharing, I need one!

  118. There’s so many great moments in season five, but my favorite was when Daenerys climbed on Drogon and then flying off! That was really cool!

  119. My favorite moment of season 5 was the battle scene at hardhome with the white walkers! We finally got see the grande scale of the army and the white walker king and the way the scene was executed was the best scene so far! The moment between jon snow and the white walker king was the most poweful non dialogue scene yet!

  120. So many great scenes to choose from, but one particular one that gave me goosebumps was the dialogue b/w Stannis and Jon Snow. The scene where Stannis says “Kneel before me, lay your sword at my feet, pledge me your service and you will rise as Jon Stark”
The background score during that scene is so beautiful. Almost brings a tear to my eye every time I watch it.

  121. One of my favourite moments has to be Ser Davos saying goodbye to Shireen and giving her the wooden stag that he carved for her. So many emotions!

  122. Favorite moment: When Arya struggles to give up herself and decides to hide Needle…until I win this box set, that is! 🙂

  123. Favorite moment of Game of Thrones Season 5…. probably Sansa in the crypts of Winterfell talking to Littlefinger… they changed up her story a bit so this scene was a pleasant surprise. I hope we get to see more of the crypts of Winterfell and it really reinforced the “There must always be a Stark in Winterfell” saying… specially with Sansa (as far as she knows, she’s the last remaining Stark) lighting candles and paying her respects to her fallen family. Then having a talk with Littlefinger about the Tournament at Harrenhall was a nice throwback. Finally after all that, her scheming with Littlefinger as to how to go forward and take back Winterfell as her own and be the Wardeness of the North… It didn’t work out like planned but it was a great scene.

  124. Definitely the nights king stareing at Jon as he and crew make their retreat and then raising the dead, basically saying to Jon, “Now you know who your f ____ing with”

  125. There were so many incredible moments in Season 5, and so much traumatic tragedy, what with what happened to Shireen and then her mother; what subsequently happened to Stannis; Drogon arriving at the arena gave me goosebumps, and of course, with the horrific final scene which I watched with many other fans in a totally, or shall I dare say “deathly” silent movie theatre.
Unlike many, I did not like the battle at Hardhome. What was that weird racket the white walkers were making?
I would have to say that my favorite moment from Season 5 was how the character of Mance Rayder emulated Ned Stark in the way that he refused to compromise his principles in order to save his life, and went with obvious fear but also bravery, to his death. What I liked was not the death, but the exceptional acting by Ciaran Hinds.

  126. “Fewer”….Hahaha, honestly I can say the actions were my favorite or when Danerys and Tyrion had their epic “Break the wheel” conversation, but really what made it my favorite for me are the small conversations that just showed me how brilliant all of these actors are and how great the stories are, ranging from Little Finger giving a history lesson to Sansa, to Shireen having her amazing father/daughter scene with Stannis, and her amazing relationship with Davos. Small scenes like Maester Aemon with Jon, Danerys with Ser Baristan Selmy, Jorah and Tyrion, Varys and Tyrion, Lady Olenna and Little Finger, all of those scenes made this season so amazing. Can’t wait for more.

  127. My favourite moment of Season 5 was when Tommen tried to see the High Sparrow and got blocked off by the sparrows. The tension between him, the kingsguard and soldiers, and the sparrows and peasants was intense. Thought there was going to be another riot!

  128. Hands down, my favorite moment of Season 5 was the entire Hardhome sequence. From the moment Jon does his George Washington impression on the boat, to his takedown of the White Walker, to the stare-down between him and the Night’s King. Also loved Karsi and Edd and Tormund and WunWun. Even Loboda. The whole thing was perfection. I can’t wait to see how they top that in Season 6.

  129. Sansa facing her nightmare, standing up to Miranda and jumping off the wall with Theon. So badass!

  130. Alfie,

The part in the Sansa/Littlefinger crypts that I liked the most was when she picked up a feather and dusted it off to place in her Aunts hand. Robert had placed that feather in her hand when he was standing there with Ned toward the beginning of the season.

  131. Favorite part of season 5 had to be hardhome!!! Amazing!! Man I hope to win the box set!!! I will watch and watch!!!

  132. Hardhome was perfect.

Episode is cruising along like any other but in the night’s watch scenes I was actually worried about Edd being killed by a Thenn or something.

Then the dogs bark and the winds change…and the last like 15 minutes of the episode are full throttle. The Valyrian steel wtf moment was perfect…cause they dragged it out just long enough where he just couldn’t get to the dragon glass or his sword. You knew the mom was fubar but you weren’t sure who else might die.

    Amazing for TV.

  133. My favorite moment of season 5…
After thinking about it, it may be a tie between Tyrion and Jorah reciting the poem about the doom of Old Valyria, and Jon killing the White Walker at Hardhome. One was atmospheric and awe-inspiring, the other was cool and exciting.

  134. My favorite moment of season 5:
Jon Snow kills the White Walker by Valyrian sword, so fucking badass!

  135. Dany visits R & V for the first time.
Put the pen down, dear, we all know you aren’t writing anything.
Cersei lookin’ sideways when Lancel walks in.
    Dany impersonator.
    Jaime sees Tarth. 7 sighs.
Janos’ face when Alliser steps aside.
Tyrion recognizing Jorah by his bear sigil breastplate.
    Jorah wins the qualifying pit.
    Arya lies to Jaqen.
Jaime blocks sword with golden hand.
    Bronn sings Dornishman’s wife.
    Fuck the glass.
Hizdahr gets scared by Daario’s knife.
    Drogon’s pit fight.
If I ever kill you, your eyes will be wide open.
Theon’s head jerk when he hears Ramsay coming.

  136. As an Arya fan, her killing Trant was very satisfying. My favorite line had to be Karsi mirroring Tormund’s “I fucking hate Thenns” right before the Hardhome battle started.

    Good luck all!

  137. Sansa learning that Bran and Rickon are still alive and that Jon is Lord Commander at the wall. It was nice to see her feel less alone and give the Starks hope for once.

  138. Hardhome! Everything about it – starting when the dogs bark at the looming storm cloud and then go silent…when the WW jumps down from the loft during the battle and his wispy hair lifts up…when Jon shatters the same WW with Longclaw…when Karsi resigns to her fate in the face of the oncoming WW kids…then her reanimation later…when the Night’s King stares down Jon and the other survivors as they row away in silence. The music, the CGI, the choreography…everything was brilliant and breathtaking. Hands down, one of the most amazing things I’ve seen on the screen.

  139. Jon killing that white walker. What is dead may never die. Iron from ice. Winter is coming.

  140. Maybe it’s the romantic in me, but Jorah reaching a hand out to Dany in 5 x 09…made me gasp!

  141. Best moment: The Night’s King raising the army of the dead and staring Jon Snow #ComeAtMeBro 😉

  142. Hope to win the DVD Giveaway. The best moment in Season 5 is the entire episode of “HardHome”.

    Cheers!

  143. By far the Hardhome battle was the most nail-biting, edge of your seat riding, exhilarating moment of Season 5!

  144. The best parts were as follows:

1.) Jon’s speech to the wildlings.
2.) The duel with the White Walker where it was unveiled that Valaryian steel can defend against the white walker’s weapons (and the realization from the white Walker that he was toast)
3.)The staredown during the departure at Hardhome and the raising of the dead.

  145. My favourite moment was when the Nights King revived the dead after the battle of Hardhome….! Chilling stuff

  146. My favorite moment was when Jon fights the White Walker and his sword doesn’t shatter, they both have an OMG moment, and then he shatters the White Walker to death!

  147. Favorite Season 5 moment was the look on the Other’s face when he crossed swords with Longclaw.

  148. It’s not necessarily DIRECTLY in the show – but my favorite moment was watching all my Unsullied viewer friends react to Jon’s “death” as it happened. I wish I got their reactions on video!

  149. My favorite moment of Game of Thrones Season 5 is something a little outside of expectation (including my own, as the Massacre at Hardhome was originally my favorite). But after re-watching Season 5 and contemplating key subtext and motifs from the books my favorite moment is now the death of Jon Snow. In addition to the power of that scene (the cinematography, music, etc.), his death marks a turning point in the story. I’ve started to think of the parallels between him and Aragorn from LOTR, and like Aragorn, Jon’s character follows the path of the archetypal Warrior King. There’s more I could say on this but I’ll save you all from a long, ponderous reflection. But if the many spoilery posts that have sustained us this off-season are true, then… well, I’m even more excited for Season 6! Good luck everyone!

  150. My favorite moment of season 5 was for sure the Hardhome episode. The duel between Jon and the white walker and Jon’s face when he successfully defends the blow from the white walker’s ice sword with Longclaw was amazing!

  151. One of my favorite moments was when Jon beheads Janos Slynt, I repeat that moment a lot when I´m watching season five..
It was like, “Yeah Jon Snow, you do know some things”

  152. my favorite moment was at Hardhome when Jon and the Wildlings and the rest of the Night’s Watch where rowing away and the King of the Night walked up to the dock and did the epic “come at me bro”.

  153. Hardhome. All of it, from the wight attack, to Jon’s duel with the White Walker, to the final chilling raising-the-dead scene. One of the best things the show has ever done, and something that was totally off-screen in the books. So I guess I’m not a purist; I just want the show to be good. : )

    Thanks for the contest!

  154. Favorite scene is when Jorah is the last man standing in the fighting pit, he looks to Dany and she finally has a look of forgiveness on her face. He draws back his dagger thinggy, throws it way up into the stands at one of the sons of the harpie (sent to kill Dany) and saves her. Yeah!!!

  155. My favorite moment overall was also the staredown between Jon and the Night’s King. For a character that didn’t have a single line of dialogue, the Night’s King managed to say a hell of a lot in that scene. The wars and rivalries in the south and across the sea seemed quite small in that moment.

  156. Arya killing Meryn Trant was so fulfilling but when Daenerys rode off on Drogon, I cried… just like when a read the books. So many emotions GOT!

  157. Favorite moment of Season 5: that long stare down between the Night’s King and Jon Snow

  158. My favorite character, hands down by a mile, is Arya Stark. She kicks ass on so many levels, and gained the respect of outlaws, assassins, and troubled swordsmen alike. I hope she becomes a Water Dancer after meeting Syrio Forel in Braavos! Plus, Maisie Williams progressed as an actor in every season more than any other actor.

  159. Arya Stark hands down. She gained the respect of everyone she ever met, and beat up Joffrey! Plus, Maisie Williams has progressed more as an actor than any other character.

  160. Favorite moment with Arya: Season One: Beating up Joffrey, Season Five: Hiding Needle, she cried and we haven’t seen her do that since her father died.

  161. Sure, it wasn’t in the book, but my favorite part of season 5 was the battle at Hardhome.

  162. My favorite part in season 5 happens at the end of the battle at hardhome, when the white walker king turns all the dead into new white walkers. It gives you a chill and it reminds you of the tough struggle ahead. I also love the interaction between Jon and the Night’s King.

  163. My favorite moment of the season was when all of the dead were raised by the Night’s King at the end of Hardhome. That was such a ‘we’re all screwed’ moment and was lovely.

  164. Fave S5 moments
    – “Are you refusing to obey my order?”
    – Jon locks swords with the White walker, then shatters him
    – “Fewer”

  165. My favorite moment was when Davos was saying goodbye to Shireen. There was an amazing undertone to the scene where you could tell both characters knew something wasn’t quite right, especially Davos, but there was no way he going to defy an order from his king. It was a classic GoT moment that had that incredible underlying tension that the show portrays so well. I remember watching and getting an immense feeling of dread.

  166. My favorite scene was Shereen burning. I know a lot of people don’t agree with this, but the scene was perfect. It was so complex, so emotionally engaging, absolutely heart-wrenching. It was the perfect closing for Stannis story-arc, his story went full circle, he was a determined man willing to do anything he believed to be his duty, and his duty, Melissandre told him, was to rule and save the realms of men. Stannis was willing to sacrifice everything for this. He sacrificed Selyse’s brother and Renly, his story needed to end with the ultimate sacrifice: Shireen. Even Selyse’s story felt complete as she finally showed some mercy towards her daughter. It was a great scene, well acted and well scripted. Only the Red Wedding was better than this scene.

  167. A favorite is too hard to call; but I really liked the dawning realization on Stanis’s face when he knew all that he’d lost.

  168. The battle at Hardhome was my favorite moment. Brigette Sorensen rocked the role of Karsi and put a face on the wights.
