Axey here, but you knew that. Twitter Post time! This week we’re doing something slightly different. As we mentioned HERE, today we’re rolling out our “Tweeting it Forward” contest, so REMEMBER, when you comment, ALSO quote your favorite Tweet from this post! We’re randomly picking a commenter AND the author of their favorite Tweet, and they will EACH win a RedBubble tee-shirt designed by our warg-friend Jenny Slife!

This contest is WORLDWIDE, and the deadline to enter is FRIDAY at 12:00 PM ET.

  14. I loved Victoria Aveyard’s tweet about Tormund getting sprung and the Night’s King’s tweet about Brienne telling off Mel: “I killed Stannis. Bye!” But my favorite is seeing Gemma Whelan looking all Muggle-like in her dandelion garden: “SO much SOWING #wedonotsow #oops.”

  15. it was a good episode, i lovr the stark reunion sansa i am pretty neutral ( in a good way) toward jon 2.0 i like him he less one dimensional than before he smile more,laugh more and even make joke, he is also more of a realist (obviously) and less reckless than before….but on the other side there is something “off” with i don’t know if this is the acting or the will of the writters but i expected a better reaction for jon,not necessesary on the letter but by the simple that rickon is implied, i find hard describe his emotion when he saw rickon on the letter…was that anger or fear? jon was wise there they need time to gather armies…..but there weaird abiout him in that scene that i can’t truly describe….the pink letter is huge part on jon storyline…but sansa his thunder on that scene and shows her level up moment that all i wanted for sansa since season 1 but i wanted THAT particular scene to be for jon….and that fact he didn’t read it until end dissapoint me… i think jon is still in shocked and don’t truly realise that he came back i hope this is just a phase and jon don’t end being “the loyal sidekick” all the seasonnhe need a purpose and i hope D&D don’t fuck his character up for the sake of the plot…….oh and he need a talk with mel

    I agree! Nobody understands but you lol. There was something off in that scene especially and I agree not liking them giving Sansa the part of reading most of and reacting to the letter where Jon is just like ho-hum (sheepish or whatev) with his expressions. Ok so maybe he not get so angry because he’s tired of fighting but have more reaction than just pause for Rickon in dungeon and I think the writers can have Sansa becoming strong woman without overshadowing Jon’s personality and development but this how they choose to do.

    Seriously, are you guys missing the obvious point that Jon stopped reading the letter at the point where he did because he was trying to protect Sansa from hearing the next part, about what Ramsay was threatening to do to her? He just has some catching up to do with how tough she’s had to get. I thought that was a great interchange.

  91. I always feel so honored when my Tweets are chosen for the recap. It’s only slightly embarrassing that one of my Tweets was from my mini break-down when my cable would not work, but I bought an HBONOW subscription and all was well in the realm.

    I have to say, ever since I discovered your Twitter recaps at the beginning of season 5, Tuesday afternoons have become my second favorite time of the week. I love that you are now having a give-away along with it as well!

    Because I cannot nominate Axey’s witty commentary that always makes me laugh the most, I choose The Red Viper of Dorne’s (@DeadlyDiva) hilarious Tweet because it is now my go-to line at the bars: “‘I don’t think you could ride the dragon.’ I’m saying that to every lackluster man. #DemThrones”

    Because it is his instinct and upbringing to be chivalrous with women. He did it with Ygritte, remember? Even though she was a wildling and lived rough – and she laughed at him for it. How much more protective he would want to be with his sister, whom he 1) never thought he was likely to see again and feels incredibly grateful to be with, 2) remembers as a fragile and ladylike young girl and 3) knows has just been through a series of horrific ordeals! Of course he would want to spare her further ugliness: It’s the gentlemanly thing to do, for a well-brought-up young man.

    I do not think we missed the point, it was obvious. It’s the way it was executed is maybe just not in line with what a couple of us would have preferred to see. No biggie.

    Fair enough. We all have different expectations and I know you were always very apprehensive about Jon changing after his resurrection. The good news is he really has not changed, in terms of what he is at his core. The only big change in him is he thought he was done fighting for others and he wanted to live for himself. The scene where he tells Sansa all the things he has had to do so far makes it quite clear how tired he of fighting and he just wants to get away from it all. And when he read the PL, he had to reluctantly admit to himself that there is no getting away. Given his state of mind, it was quite natural that he took his time wrapping his head around the idea that he would be fighting once more. So for me, the PL scene in no way showed that Jon was weak. And the reason why he stopped reading the letter at that point, is he was trying to spare Sansa from having to hear what Ramsey had to say. By picking up the letter and reading it anyway, Sansa showed she did not need such protection.
    Besides, I think Jon losing his sense of purpose is part of his arc for the season, and there will be adequate payoff at the end.

    Yes, this is very true about a payoff. We have to deal with a laissez faire Jon where we get a bit frustrated so that when he becomes bad-ass again it’ll make it feel more triumphant 🙂 You’re right about being worried how he would come back and I’m very relieved he’s not a robotic sadist lol. As for him wanting more to live for himself that’s understandable especially as far as no longer wanting to be tied to the Watch. One thing I really like about him was how altruistic he was, like he got satisfaction in life from proving himself a good leader and protector of those who are weaker. I tell you though, upon reflection even more so now I do wonder why Mel bringing him back to life hasn’t made him reflect and seek out counsel with her about that. Or rather, why the writers didn’t add a scene where we get some insight into what he thinks about that. It could have been a short dialogue with Sansa, Mel, Davos or even Edd.

    I do understand why he did it. Just when book readers have talked about the pink letter they always use in context of Jon receiving and reacting to it. Some people at another site were complaining that the show runners had Sansa involved in order to start her on the road to BAB and it feels contrived just to make a character more powerful than she is written to be. It doesn’t bother me that much, but admittedly a little bit of the book purist effect has rubbed off on this unsullied 🙂

    Well, there are certainly a few people on this site who delight in calling me a ‘book purist,’ as if that were a half-step above being a child molester… but in this instance I feel like the show’s change in the order of events – assassination first, THEN PL – makes it sort of a moot point how worked up Jon gets about the PL. And Sansa’s presence on the scene also makes it a whole different dynamic from the book version. Intervention to save Rickon/take back Winterfell becomes a joint decision rather than one that Jon undertakes on his own. And in a way it’s an easier decision now, since his watch has ended. He’s not keen on fighting and dying again, but he’s got his little sister to give him a whack upside the head now.

    Anyway, I for one have no problem with how it played out, but I guess I could see how some fans might. Sansa’s never going to be a hands-on fighter like Arya, but I think it’s nice to see her finally getting fed-up and proactive. I just hope she doesn’t turn into a Lady Macbeth sort of character!

I love these recaps because they are usually so amusing, but every once in a while they remind me of all the reasons I hate Twitter: the constant striving for greaterness—not greatness, but the better-than-themness; incessant impatience; abbreviated and/or infantilized language to the point of nonsense; everything is so flippant it often strikes chords quite contrary to the way the show feels to me. You can tell when people are just sitting in a room talking by watching the comments, because suddenly it’s boring and no one gives any kinds of fucks and it makes me wonder how much Tweeting whilst viewing alters the perception of the show. I really dislike the idea of Twitter in the first place, so I won’t rant anymore about that here; I’ll save it for my blog no one reads. Yay.

    I am not judging, btw. Neither Tweeting or not-Tweeting makes you a better/worse person. You do it or you don’t because you enjoy it or you don’t. For me, the diminution of meaningful communication is already a chasm that gets harder and harder to cross, and I can’t bring myself to further its erosion. I also suck at smalltalk, and that’s what Twitter is like to me–endless streams of quippy smalltalk designed to one-up whatever’s come before. That works for some people. Yay for them. Not for me. Yay for me!
