Rewatch the Throne with Game of Owns!

rewatchthethrone

With season 7 a long way off, premiering in the summer of 2017, Game of Thrones fans are now plunging into a long, icy winter. In the off-season, we’ve done what we do best- we watch- and followed the making of the new season, looking ahead to the future, but now it’s time to look back.

Our friends at Game of Owns have taken on a new project: Rewatch The Throne. The Game of Owns podcast originated during season 2 of Game of Thrones, and so they missed out on the first season- ten episodes worth of Owns and analysis. That’s why the gang is partnering up with Howl to go back to the beginning of Game of Thrones, and rewatch the series from episode one, “Winter is Coming.” Joining them on the journey will be an Unsullied friend who will be experiencing GoT for the very first time.

The collaboration with Howl is an especially exciting one, with the level of programming the podcast network is known for providing. Howl’s Managing Editor of Premium Content Jenny Radelet says, “Game of Owns is a must-listen for anyone remotely interested in the Game of Thrones universe. We were thrilled when Zack agreed to create Rewatch the Throne exclusively for our Howl listeners, who are proven GOT fans. We hope the spin-off will be a chance for die-hard fans to discover new layers and nuances within the episodes, and for newcomers to fall in love with the series for the very first time.”

The first episode of Rewatch The Throne is now available on Howl Premium. Howl is usually $4.99/month but listeners who use Howl’s Rewatch the Thrones promo code THRONES at checkout will receive one free month of Howl Premium (which includes a whole lot of other awesome podcasts, incidentally).

Rewatch the Throne will be a twice-a-month podcast. The first episode is already out, and the second episode of the series goes live on December 14th.

In addition to the reliving the early days of GoT, GOO will be tossing out and asking for your Owns as always, and they’ll be taking your suggestions on potential lines of questioning for their wildly Unsullied counterpart as the episodes move forward.

Go forth and listen, the Rewatch is Coming!

  1. I’ve been thinking lately that season 7 won’t premiere before September. I know many expect the show to air in June/Juli, but I think it’s entirely possible, likely even, that HBO doesn’t want to air their prize horse during the summer break.

    Just throwing it out there.

    Also, first comment here.

  2. Seriously? They are charging for a rewatch of a season that’s *7 years old*? That’s laughable. Hard pass.

  3. I started rewatching a couple of weeks ago and have plowed through to 02e09 this week because Ive been sick. Looking forward to the podcasts 🙂

  4. I am really envy of those people who are watching for the first time (and then realize that the second watch is a must), also speaking of the Unsullied I keep suggesting to many of them that now is the great time to start watching , if only for that one year wait for the next season, the excitement … Thank you WotW for existing

  5. Tatjana,

I agree that now is the great time to start watching, because S6 was the end of Act 2.

The next oportunity for a “great time to start” will be after the show ends.

  6. Tatjana,

They went against The Walking Dead’s season finale a couple of times without much loss in viewership, so I don’t know if they’d be really worried about that.

If season 7 starts in early September, it will have finished airing by the time The Walking Dead’s first episodes hit.

  7. Tatjana,

The way TWD is losing ratings nowadays not to mention how shit it has become i doubt they really care, but i don’t think it will premiere in September because that is way too late and considering they are finishing filming in february,7 months of post production seems ridiculous even for a show like GOT and especially now when they have fewer episodes .

  8. Sky Atlantic are ‘yet again’ rerunning the entire series. Its a couple of episodes into S6 currently. I must have seen all the seasons (with the exception of perhaps S5/6) about a dozen times! Its really addictive, but even after so many watches its surprising the amount of subtle things I have missed. WotW is very good in the respect that posters have mentioned things that never occurred to me and re-watching the series I can see what they mean 🙂

As it will be many months before S7 airs, Sky Atlantic will probably re-run the series a few times again!

You too? I have done it too, though I’m already at Season 4 Episode 10 – poor Rhaegal and Viserion 🙁
Two Episodes every Monday evening. 😉

I agree TWD used to be one of my favorites but now I can’t stand 10 minutes of it. The S7 premiere was dreadful and all the episodes after it were dull, boring and sloppy. It’s a pity really, the earlier seasons were very good. Many people I know have given up on it and frankly, if the mid season finale is not excellent, I will too.
No offense to the show’s big fans though, tastes tend to differ 🙂

  11. Uhm, didn’t GOO already have a rewatch & comment of Season 1 during the Season 3 period or whereabout? I don’t understand how this is new ground? Why contradict the fact that they already did it, even though they could have a slightly different approach this time?

  12. Lavignac,

I’m also wondering about a rewatch of Season 2… It was always mentioned as something they’d do as soon as possible as a thank you for the GOO fans and a reason to support them on Patreon etc. but if it ends up happening on another podcast and we’re being charged for it, I’m going to be disappointed. I simply can’t afford it.

  13. Thank you for listening, and for supporting the pilot episode! We’ve been excited for this launch and for the new show. It’s going to be true blast going through the series again (and season 1 for the first time) with fresh eyes and fresh ?Owns?

    Cersei’s Wine Goblet,

Rewatch The Throne is a new show developed for Howl, a premium streaming network of audio programs — we are not charging for it individually. Your support is appreciated, listener or not!

    Lavignac,

In 2013 our podcast recorded bonus commentary tracks to play in sync with season 1. This is a new beast. You could check out episode one with the free subscription to Howl.fm and see what you think!

    Mizzie,

We’re currently deep in a read through of A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons, but we’d still love to record commentary tracks for seasons 2-8! Those episodes would remain part of Game Of Owns. Our season 2 discussion episodes can be found here: http://gameofowns.com/season2
